Buck couldn’t believe what he was seeing. After all the times Eddie had yelled and tried to reassert that he was a ‘man’, a firefighter, a soldier, he was now dancing with drag queens. Moving his hips.

“Gotta give it to him, he’s got moves!” said Chimney, raising his beer bottle and clinking it with Hen’s.

“That looks like any queer man’s dream!” joked Hen back, almost elbowing Buck off his chair.

But Buck wouldn’t take his eyes off Eddie enough to realize they were mocking him. He had turned into a mess. A blinking, heart-pounding, mouth-watering mess.

“Oh my god” he muttered, swallowing. “Why- how did-.”

His words weren’t coming out, and his friends were bending over in laughter. Bobby and Athena had called it a night, and now it was just them. And so, so much alcohol.

“You should ask him to dance” whispered Hen, her eyebrow raised. “Worse thing he can say is no.”

That’s when Eddie locked eyes with him from the dance floor, and winked.
