"How can I hope that this will not happen to my memory of H.? That it is not happening already? Slowly, quietly, like snow-flakes- like the small flakes that come when it is going to snow all night- little flakes of me, my impressions, my selections, are settling down on the image of her. The real shape will be quite hidden in the end. Ten minutes- ten seconds- of the real H. would correct all this. And yet, even if those ten seconds were allowed me, one second later the little flakes would begin to fall again. The rough, sharp, cleansing tang of her otherness is gone." - C.S. Lewis, A Grief Observed
Sam Reid's Dreamstat just does me in. It's clearly not quite Lestat, and it makes that absence really ache. Louis is so diligent in his Lestat fanfiction, he's trying so hard to build the realest image he can. He does a decent job of capturing Lestat's mordant humour, his unexpected way of turning a sentence, the way he smiles when he's suffering. The ceaseless reaction-seeking, the menace, the sensuality, the love, the fear. The satin pants. It's all there but none of it's really him. It's insubstantial and it highlights the absolute horror of him being gone. Godddddd.

The way to approach Dreamstat, which is what Jacob called him, I definitely tried to bring as much Louis into that Lestat as I possibly could. He’s mimicking his body language, he repeats the words that he says in the same way. So you kind of really get the sense that this is also Louis. - Sam Reid
