My head hurts every time someone confuses the Carranam bond for a mating bond.

Carranam bond is basically a blood link or channel to exchange raw magic and it can't happen without a physical connection (cutting palms and holding hands to create a blood link).

Every time Rowan had to lend his raw magic to Aelin, they had to be joining hands. You can't access it from any distance without a physical connection or instinctively. Same case with Dorian lending his raw magic to Yrene, they cut their palms and joined their hands.

Carranam can't use each other's powers. They can borrow raw magic to amplify their natural affinity (E.g., Aelin using the raw magic Rowan is channeling through the blood link to amplify her fire magic, but she can't and has no access to his elemental magic: ice and wind).

Carranam is not pre-destined, Mating bonds are. Mating bonds are an intrinsic part of whoever is blessed with it. It's tied to their very being.
