things they dislike

chiyo doesn't like unnecessary romance in stories. in fact, the first manga she wrote and became known for initially didn't have any romance in it despite her publisher's encouragement; she didn't want it to be marketed as romance when it was going to be this epic fantasy with plenty of fighting. romance wasn't meant to be the focus whatsoever, and she eventually included it only because she saw the natural progression of her characters' relationship and went, " okay, i see it, so i'll give the fans some crumbs. " the two characters in question don't get together " on-screen, " but in the so-called sequel, they're mentioned as is their marriage.
