Development Diary 1
Tumblr media
One of the fun aspects about Euphony's development, is the amount of ideas and concepts that the team keep on coming up with. The project lends itself to many fun and unique ideas, especially when it comes to the design. But as production continues, many of these ideas end up getting cut for one reason or another.
Therefore, we decided to showcase some of the exciting cut content. Here is some sketches of giant robots that could've appeared in the background. They would've either stood tall amongst the buildings, or climbed over them. These were created to showcase the diverse range of robots that exist in the world of Euphony.
The first one is essentially a walking crane. With the ability to travel to any construction site, with ability to even walk over buildings. The second one is more stationary. It's a gigantic robot that would clean large swaths of rubble, clearing the way for other robots. And finally, the third one is a cleaning robot, that could travel through streets and up buildings. It's many appendages carrying different cleaning tools.

Development Diary 3
Tumblr media
The background has generally remained the same in concept throughout production. But there have been gradual changes in the details of the environment as planning went on.
We can see this through the first iteration sketches of Euphony's backgrounds. Here in this design, elements based on group meetings were taken to get an idea of what the city could look like. Such as ruined buildings, sand everywhere and sci-fi elements littering the place.
But as development continued, the city became more packed in the diferent scenes. And a consistent design for the buildings was established. The sci-fi elements also took a bit of a back seat, existing only though the robots characters.
Also, this sketch was great for experimenting with broken windows and ruined buildings. It's interesting to see all the different elements that go into designing a crumbling city, especially when you consider the potential environment storytelling that it has for the scene.

Development Diary 2
Since our awesome team is comprised of artists with many different skills, the project has been designed to incorporate all of them. The many character ideas, detailed backgrounds, and a colourful array of visual effects. That's why we're also using 3D alongside 2D for Euphony.
This video here is a small demonstration of the 3D elements being implemented into the project. It is at a rough stage now, but we've got some exciting plans for it. Such as different tools to help bring in variety for the buildings, and artistic styles to really spice up the area.
I'm looking forward to seeing how it all turns out, but how is it being used. Well that mostly counts as spoilers, but I can tell you that we're using 3D as part of our visual storytelling. Showing how the world of our protagonist changes alongside them.
Thanks for reading, and be on the lookout for any other development diaries, as well as news for Euphony's development.
