Italian Duo LE SCIMMIE Raise Hell on ‘Adriatic Desert’
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
By Billy Goate
Tumblr media
It's time to shake off those winter blues. Spring is blooming and the weather is slowly changing. You need some good tunes to go along with the good times. That's where a good stoner rock band comes in. Enter Italian duo LE SCIMMIE. Their name translates into English as "The Monkeys" and when you hear the way they move and groove, you understand why.
The duo phenomenon is something we documented a few years back, and at that time limited our focus to the Latin America scene. Duos of course, a global phenomenon, fueled certainly by the simplicity of the model, not to mention the success of The White Stripes and Black Cobra, whose live performances quell all doubts.
If you're wondering whether Le Scimmie can really bring the volume, you're about to bear witness to their explosive new LP, 'Adriatic Desert' (2023). The beast on its front cover and the band motto sum up this spin: "Guitar, drums, and vital energy."
Opening number "Wild Boar" tosses about between drums and a devilishly downtuned guitar with low-end umph. It revs up hot like a desert rocker and later goes slow-mo for an unexpected turn to doom metal. There was something mesmerizing about this one. I could see it being a great encore.
The album's title track comes at us like a dust storm, with several grindy doom motifs interchanging throughout the piece. A second guitar enters the picture and compliments this mosher with melody. As the song reaches its final minutes, a hypnotizing riff summons a wicked tarantella.
"Acid Lime" begins with a mingling of various stoner motifs dancing about in fiendish fashion. The guitar's pedal effects shine here, coming in at key moments to create a sense of the strange.
Tumblr media
"Mammatus" takes us to the half-way mark, setting out on another frenetic trek. Like the great mammatus clouds of the Himalayas, the mood builds ominously and grows ever darker. The song stomps and grinds its way to a murky, doomy midsection, then rains down hail from on high.
"A Giant Summer" kicks off the B-side by strumming a cynical punk riff, totally sucking me into the song, and transforms this into a live fast, die hard stoner-punk-garage number.
If the last song got wild, what can we expect from "Hysteria"? Perhaps a riff that will drive you mad, or a rhythm that will entrance you. This one's got a certain Clouds Taste Satanic ring to it, with melodic guitar imaginatively soaring over the morass.
"2007" is the shortest song on the album, and it feels like a good one to shake out the jitters, giving off a surf punk spirit in the same musical neighborhood of LaGoon. Concluding the album is "Fluorescent Dinosaur." The band seems to conjure the creature with the swagger of guitarist Angelo Mirolli and the pop-pop of Marco D'Aulerio's drums.
Le Scimmie tells us:
'Adriatic Desert' was born in Mirolli's mind during intense walks along the shoreline of Abruzzo's Adriatic coast and took shape with D'Aulerio in long jam sessions in the rehearsal room to the sound of Big Muff and amplifiers pushed to the limit.
Oh, and did I mention that the album is entirely instrumental? You can jam out Le Scimmie's Adriatic Desert on Thursday, April 27th, when the records releases digitally and on compact disc via Frekete! Records (pre-order). Stick it on a playlist with Karama To Burn and BelzebonG. Here's a first listen for Doomed & Stoned readers.
Give ear...
Adriatic Desert by Le Scimmie
SOME BUZZ
Le Scimmie was born in 2007 in Vasto, in the province of Chieti (Abruzzo), from the guitarist Angelo "Xunah" Mirolli; in December of the same year they released their first self-produced EP, 'L'origine,' with which they started playing live. In 2008 and 2010 the duo reached the final stages of the Abruzzo selections of the nationally known festival Italia Wave, arriving first in the semifinals and two years later in the final. In 2010, the duo released their first official album, 'Dromomania' (self-released).
In September 2012, they left for their first European tour, playing together with bands of the caliber of Stoned Jesus and Samsara Blues Experiment, culminating in the date at the Robust Fest in Kiev; in the same year they participate in the Tube Cult Fest in Pescara, sharing the stage, among others, with Karma to Burn. Also in 2012 the band released the digital single "Habanero."
After a long break in 2016, Mirolli took over the project again and, with a new line-up and a third member on synths, released the album 'Colostrum' (Red Sound Records). In 2017 the band was invited by the Ukrainian label Robust Fellow to represent Italy in the compilation 'Electric Funeral Café.' The unreleased track is titled "Sic Transit Gloria Mundi." 2023 is the year of the third album 'Adriatic Desert' (Frekete! Records): a work that sees the return to the duo lineup. 'Adriatic Desert' is a record of impact; an energetic record. Stoner. In fact, 'Adriatic Stoner.'

Tag someone you want to know better
Omg I’m so sorry if there’s one thing people discover about me after getting to know me it’s that I’m terrible at checking my notifications!
It started as a social anxiety thing but then unfortunately became a habit. I’m really excited that you wanted to get to know me better though (I assume it’s because I reblog and ramble so much in your tags KSBFKAHSJA 🙈)!
Favourite color: I used to say rainbow, but I fully admit now my favourite is turquoise! Alternate favourite is pink, and I suppose third place is blue. 😆
Last song: Xiao Gui (小鬼) aka Li’l Ghost: “Valentine Killer”
youtube
You caught me on a very Xiao Gui day; I realized recently it’s been a while since I listened to him and I needed something to really spur me on while I tried not to cry write my thesis, so I’ve been looping his songs all day! 😆
Last movie:
Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) at a Halloween party with friends!
Bonuses include Nope (2022) for work, and 30,000 Miles from Chang’an (Chang’an san wan li, 2023) being the last film I watched in theatres!
Currently watching:
Rewatching Hidden Love on Youku
Rewatching You Yao on iQIYI
The Young Brewmaster’s Adventure on Youku
《万能恋爱杂货店》 on iQIYI (just started it since it just came out, actually!)
And a few other donghua on various platforms, but especially Bilibili—besides Tian Guan Ci Fu season 2 which everyone is freaking out over, the newest season of Shaonian Ge Xing and Spirits in Chinese Brushes also came out! Always hoping to start more (plus some cdramas like When I Fly Towards You)~
Tumblr media
Other stuff I've watched this year:
A bunch of movies for work/class, such as Belladonna of Sadness or works by Chris Marker or Flee (2021) or Lipsett Diaries etc!
Beryl and Sapphire season 2 (still need to start season 3…)
You Shou Yan
All Saints Street
Dalisi Rizhi season 2
Link Click season 2
Yao—Chinese Folktales
Watt’s Up, Girl
Some episodes of Throne of Seal
Some episodes of The Land of Miracles
Wolfwalkers
Rewatched Dahufa and forced my classmates to watch it too for a presentation I did 😆
And tons more donghua; as many as I can get my grubby little hands on (and find time for 🥲)
Tumblr media
Shows I dropped this year/didn't finish:
Mao Zhi Ming (not because I didn’t want to; the second season ended while I was out travelling and Bilibili paywalled them… I need to consider whether I want to renew a subscription with them or iQIYI first for You Yao GKSNKFSJJS)
Not sure if this counts, but I considered watching Frieren but a recent spoiler from a friend makes me less interested in it… Which is kind of fine since when it comes to anime, I probably would’ve prioritized The Apothecary Diaries anyway ahaha.
And I’m not sure when I’ll find the time for some stuff (I may just continue absorbing it through fandom osmosis) like Boruto and Precure…
I also fully admit sometimes I just stop watching things part-way through not because I don’t love the thing, but because I either don’t have time or I didn’t want it to end. 🙈
youtube
I may have “dropped” this one—but only temporarily! I do want to pick it back up! It’s also currently airing its spin-off, Quan Zhi Ming… qwq
Currently reading:
I just finished Pink Globalization for my thesis and now I’m starting some articles on kpop studies…
If stuff for academia doesn’t count, then I’m also rereading SVSSS and Erha (the new official English releases)
I started Yuwu as a promise to a friend (and I’m terrified of the incoming knives 😂)
Don’t Pick Up Boyfriends from the Trashbin
Also chipping away (terribly slowly) at some western Chinese-inspired fantasy such as The Poppy War and Daughter of the Moon Goddess (it has been…some months since I last touched them otl)
If it counts, I’m also reading like…a million manhua at once SLFJSKSJ. It’s basically become my source of comfort media for whenever I’m stressed, especially since I don’t have a lot of time to consume seasonal shows right now! Sort of like how the latest seasons of Xi Yang Yang became my comfort show while I was working on my undergrad thesis haha (which I also need to catch up on 😭). If anyone wants recs, I have donghua/manhua ones here, and more bl/gl manhua recs here!
Is it terrible etiquette to always share my brain rots and this list? Apologies SOFJSKSJ
Currently working on:
Besides that thesis I should really be working on (and a conference paper for a different class) plus some other school/work stuff…
I’m still writing a few SVSSS fics, including a new chapter for the Bing-ge dreams one I feel really bad for leaving people on a cliff-hanger for so long (it’s been what, a year or two? 😭)
And some Erha fics! Including the final two chapters for the Chu Wanning birthday fic. 💪
I also hope to start some doodles/drabbles for Bingqiu week
And maybe a few more OC drawings/(re)designs? I did a lot right before the OC-tober event, but it’s been long enough I’ve gone without drawing I can feel my fingers itchiiiiing
Current Obsession:
Oh definitely some manhua, like See You My King, My Lovely Troublemaker, Don’t Say You Love Me, Kiss the Abyss, Hidden Love, You Are My Desire, I Ship My Rival x Me, Blemishing the Contaminated, and so on! I have a tendency to bounce around a lot of obsessions and brain rots at once, so my brain becomes a carousel just cycling through them. 😅
Beryl and Sapphire
Link Click
You Yao
SVSSS and Erha always!
I realize my answers got stupidly long as I went on and I hope that wasn’t too obnoxious of me! I do a terrible job of shutting up sometimes aldjfksjsks.
Tagging: (don’t feel pressured to do it but if you do I would love to get to know you better! 🥰)
Also oops now that I’m writing this out I’m realizing I probably should’ve made my own post… I’m sorry I’m so sleep-deprived lately and I’m on mobile right now x’D
@crimsonrainseekingflower @scarletlich @nagaikei-ajin @lizzieonka @softdekus (and anyone else who may want to do this! ♥️)
Tag someone you want to know better
tagged by @extraordinarilyextreme ! Thank you as always! I didn't do the fic one because my answers were all embarrassingly old fics from years ago that i didn't want to link LOL!
Favourite color: black (stock answer) (haven't really reconsidered this question since elementary school)
Last song: No Sabes Como Duele - Marc Anthony
youtube
Last movie: Dangerous Minds (1995)
Currently watching:
Second rewatch of Fringe (2008)
Third rewatch of Oz (1997) where I skip season 4b and see how that affects things
Other stuff I've watched this year:
150 movies this year
TV shows: 狂飙, Good Omens 2 ....???? Can't remember any other shows there may have been LOL
Shows I dropped this year/didn't finish:
I started a second rewatch of Criminal Minds (intending to just go up to s8) before realising I still remembered too much of everything that happens LOL
Currently reading: Just started rereading Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison. I remember reading it when I was in 8th grade I think (maybe it was high school) and wishing I could keep the book because it made such an impression. But it was a school library book so I couldn't keep it and book stealing is bad
Currently working on: Fanfic 😑👍🏼
Current obsession: Finishing this damn fanfic.....
Tagging (apologies if the tag seems random, I'm trying to mix it up): @saberchild @calystarose @qinzai @oceans-bluem @misotofu @transboydororo @tofufei @timmie-p @romanceyourdemons @kukuandkookie
...and anyone else who wants to do this! Feel free to say I tagged you :)

lip synch your way into my heart finale
Part One // Part Two // Part Three // Part Four
please drop me a comment or a tag. they mean the world even if it’s just one smiley face emoji I s2g
oh also the song is “Can’t Stand It” by nevershoutnever
---
“Are you really sure about this?” Jaskier asks, nibbling anxiously on the string of his hoodie. Geralt gently removes it from between his teeth and bumps their foreheads together.
“Of course I’m sure. I’m so excited to show you off to the world. I can’t believe that you’re letting me claim you as mine so publicly.”
“Well,” Jaskier blushes. Geralt takes a moment to really revel in the flush of his cheeks, the way his smile turns from flirtatious to shy; he’s so head-over-heels it’s sickening. “I have to admit, I kinda like it.”
“What do you like?” Geralt asks. Jaskier fiddles with the hoodie string again but doesn’t put it back in his mouth. That’s a good sign.
“I like that you want me,” the younger man clarifies. He can’t make eye contact with his boyfriend and his cheeks are turning an even darker shade of puce. “I like that you...that you’re openly saying you’re mine. And that I’m yours. I like...being with you.”
“Usually I’m the one who has trouble getting my words out,” Geralt teases gently, lightening the mood. Jaskier smiles gratefully up at the influencer and nods.
“Go ahead and post it, then.”
“Here we go! Off to Neverland,” Geralt says, suddenly wrapping his arms around Jaskier’s waist to spin him in a wide circle. The brunette giggles so adorably and so furiously that Geralt does it again before setting him down. He taps a button on his phone screen and smiles triumphantly. “There. Now all of China knows we’re queer.”
Jaskier snorts and rolls his eyes, laughing anyway. “Wow, that was bad.”
“I’m hip with the kids,” Geralt shrugs. His phone chimes and he glances down. The video has only been up for maybe a minute. Maybe two.
He unlocks the screen and his honey-gold eyes go wide with shock. “Hey babe,” he mutters, “All of China really does know.”
“I told you my idea would be great for views.”
“I’m never doubting you again. I’m hiring you as my manager. Sleeping with the management is legal, right?”
Jaskier laughs again and lets Geralt smother him with kisses. His face, his neck; finally his boyfriend pulls him up to meet his lips, pressing their mouths together for as long as they can hold their breath. “Love you, boo.”
“Hmm.”
---
Jaskier watches the Tik Tok again, later, when he’s sitting on Geralt’s couch, waiting for his boyfriend to get done showering. It was his idea and the result was perfect. The sweetest way to tell the world they were officially and happily a couple.
The caption read: “My boyfriend is so talented and cute!”
The video showed Jaskier and Geralt sitting on some stone steps, with the brunette tucked safely against one of his boyfriend’s steady legs. He was reclining comfortably with his head against Geralt’s knee, playing the ukulele and singing one of his old middle school favorites:
“You, I saw you across the room And I knew that this was gonna Blossom into something beautiful. You're beautiful.
“Baby, I love you, I never want to let you go. The more I think about, The more I want to let you know That everything you do, Is super duper cute And I can't stand it!”
At the end of the song, Geralt leans down to kiss Jaskier quickly on the cheek and Jaskier smiles on instinct.
It was almost too sweet in some regards. But the comments were overwhelmingly supportive and positive. Geralt seemed to have a mostly-queer fanbase anyway since he shared so many skits with Yen (a noted bisexual with a hot redheaded lesbian girlfriend) and Ciri (whose gay rights rants were famously funny and informative). The outpouring of “so cute”s and “Omg so happy for you”s was amazing.
A few were rude or stupid, but Jaskier found it easy enough to blow them off. He had Geralt, after all. He was the luckiest Party City cashier in the entire world.
His boyfriend came out of the bathroom just as Jaskier set his phone on the coffee table. “Oh hey, hot stuff. Ready for movie night?”
“Yeah,” Geralt grinned. He leaned down to peck the brunette gently on the lips. “Rom Com or Horror?”
“Your turn to pick.”
“Horror, then. Let’s do something old and silly.”
“How about Creature From the Black Lagoon?”
“Perfect!”
Geralt settled onto the couch next to Jaskier and pulled his favorite fleece blanket over both of their legs. He wrapped his arm around the younger man’s shoulders and pulled him close, nuzzling against his neck. “I love you, boo.”
“I love you too, babe.”
“Good. I never want to let you go.”

Tumblr media
Chapter 4
It had been a few days since Eden left Sids after they raped her.    She called out sick from work she couldn't face them.    The team was headed out to California and Eden asked if she could fly out and meet the team there.    They said that was fine.     Eden went out a day early and did some sight seeing.       It was nice.     The team arrived later that day.     She had just gotten finished eating when there was a knock at the door.    Eden goes and sees it was Sid.
"Eden please open the door." Sid says.
He had carnations her favorite in his hands and a stuffed Panda bear too.   Eden figured she might as well hear him out.    She opens the door.
"What Sid?" Eden says.
"I am sorry for what I did to you the other day." Sid says.
"Oh you mean raping me when I said no." Eden replies snarky.
"Yes I am sorry baby.   It will never happen again.     Kris is sorry too these are from us." Sid says.
"Look let's just let by gones be bygones.   I  won't say anything about what happened.   I won't tell your secret." Eden says.
"Please baby.    Think about it.    We really do love you." Sid says.
"Okay I will think about it okay." Eden says.
"Good baby.    We love you and don't want to loose you." Sid says.
"I will think about it okay.   Now I just want to go lie down.   I am not feeling well." Eden says.
"Okay feel better." Sid says kissing her softly on the lips.
"Thanks Sid.   Goodnight I will see you at practice tomorrow." Eden replies.
"Okay baby." Sid says kissing her head.
Eden took the flowers and Panda and shut the door behind him.    She wasn't thinking about anything she was walking out of this and going to be with Chase.
That was when her phone went off. It was Chase.
"Meet me down in the lobby." Chase texts.
"Wait you're here!" Eden texts back.
"Yup got a race here in Cali and then racing Phoenix and Vegas." Chase says.
"Let me change and I'll be right down." Eden says.
She throws on a pair of jeans and a black be brave shirt.    She then heads down to the lobby.
Chase was standing there waiting for her. She runs to him.
"Chase." Eden exclaims practically jumping on him.
"Hey princess." Chase says kissing her.
Eden kisses back not caring who was watching.
"I'm so happy you are here." Eden says.
"I am happy too I get too see my girl. Now let's go I have a special date planned just the two of us." Chase says.
They link hands and head out to them rental car. They both get in. Chase takes off towards San Diego.
"Where are we going?" Eden asks.
"You will see." Chase says smiling at her.
45 minutes later they arrive at the zoo.
"The San Diego Zoo!" Eden  says excitedly.
'Well I know how much you love animals especially pandas so I figured I needed to bring you." Chase  says.
They park. They then head to the entrance. Chase  pays for them them. They find out there was a bus called the Kangaroo Bus that would drop them off at various parts of the park. Inside there they see the Australian Wander which was full of plants that come from down under, along with Camels, Koalas. Laughing Kookabura's, Tasmanian Devils and Wombats.

"I want a hippo for Christmas is one of my favorite Xmas songs so I love hippos." Eden says.
"They are intriguing animals." Chase says.
They continue on. They were holding hands and acting like a real couple and Eden was loving it. They then get on the Kangaroo bus and head to the nest spot for them. They then do the Panda Canyon, where they see Amur Leopard's, Giant Panda's red pandas and Takins.
"Pandas are my absolute favorite animal in the whole wide world." Eden says.
"I know now come with me." Chase says.
They head behind the habitat where they met a zookeeper. Chase paid extra for them to be able to play with one of the panda's. It was one of the Cubs born not that long ago. Also Eden was adopting it and could name it. Eden was having the time of her life. Chase had them take picture and a video. She ended up naming the bear Chase. Finally they leave.
"Thank you for doing that for me. I love it." Eden says.
"I am glad baby." Chase says.
That was when Eden ran to the trash can and threw up. Chase held her hair back. He also got her ginger Ale.
"Do you want to go home?" Chase asks.
"Nope I'm okay now." Eden says.
They then head to the Africa Rocks where they got to see and play with the penguins.
They head around the zoo seeing more different animals. They saved the best for last where Eden  got to see the polar bears another one of her favorites. It was neat to see them out playing. "Disneyland baby?" Eden asks.
"But of course. Have to take my Princess to the happiest place on earth." Chase replies.
"I love you." Eden says.
"I love you more princess." Chase replies kissing her hand.

They then head back to the car and back to the track. Chase  had something special planned for them. He had it set up and ready to go.
"What's this?" Eden says seeing a table set up for two.
"Dinner for two baby." Chase says.
"Awww Clyde." Eden says kissing him.
Chase kisses back. He then helps her sit down.
He goes and heats up their food. He had made chicken parmigiana and noodles along with a salad. When it was done he sits it in the table and then takes his seat. They each take a piece of chicken and some noodles.   They then add a little bit more sauce to each before sprinkling it with parmesan cheese.   They put some salad in their salad bowls and add the dressing.   Chase pours them each a glass of wine.
Eden takes a bite of the food and then says
"Oh my god it tastes as good as it smells."
"Thanks.   The sauce is my mothers homemade recipe." Chase  says.
"Well it's good." Eden  says.
They eat and enjoy each others company.   Once they finished Eden helped Chase  clean up and put the leftovers away and load the dishwasher.
"The flowers are for you." Chase says to her.
"Thank you Clyde.  Carnations are my favorite flower and pink is my favorite color." Eden  says.
"I know baby." Chase says.
"So wha are we going to watch?" Eden  asks.
"Since  I know how much you love scary movies I have the Conjuring universe movies ready to go." Chase replies.
"Lead the way." Eden says.
Chase lead her to the game room.   They both sit on the couch as Chase turns on the Nun.   The movie starts.    Not even five minutes into it Chase jumps at a scary part.
"Damn." Chase says.
"You really hate scary movies don't you?" Eden asks.
"Yes I do.    But I will watch them because I know you like them." Chase says.
"Well I will keep you safe Clyde." Eden says.
"I know." Chase says as another scary part happens.
They movie went on.   Eden felt him get a little tense and knew he was scared so she leaned in a little closer trying to comfort him.   Chase puts his arm around her pulling her closer to him.  She leaned her head on his shoulder.
It got to the part where the priest was buried A alive.    Chase started to shake.   That was one of his phobias being trapped someplace not being able to get out.   He was claustrophobic.
"Oh Chase." Eden says leaning in placing a soft kiss on his lips.
She would do anything at that moment to make him feel better.   She never experienced a man so vulnerable.
Chase kisses back putting his hands on each side of her cheeks.  Eden parts her lips slightly.   Chase deepens the kiss exploring her mouth with his tongue.
"Mmm." Chase moans deep in his throat.
"Mmm." Eden moans too.
"God Princess ." Chase says once they both come up for air.
"You are a good kisser Clyde." Eden says.
"So are you Princess." Chase replies.
She looks deep into his eyes and sees a bunch of emotion swirling in them.
Chase leans in kissing her again pulling her all but into his lap.   His hands roam up the back of her shirt setting her skin on fire.
"God Clyde take me to bed." Eden moans when he let her up for air again.
"God baby are you sure?" Chase asks.
"God yes." Eden says she wanted him so bad.
Chase picks her up carrying her into his bedroom.   He sits her on her feet closing the door.    Once the door was closed Eden pushes him up against it.
"Eden." Chase moans.
"I want you and I am going to take you." Eden says.
"I want you too." Chade says.
She starts to lift his shirt up placing soft kisses along his chest as she does.
"Fuck." Chase moans.
Once she gets the shirt up and and over his she throws it to the floor.
"You have the most amazing body Clyde." Eden says running her nails lightly down his chest to the band of his jeans.
"Thanks Princess oh god." Chase moans as she pops open the button and pulls the zipper down running her finger up his happy trail.
She works the jeans down his hips kissing his stomach with light fluttery kisses as she does.  Chase just moans.
She then works his boxer briefs down as well freeing his rock hard cock.   Eden licks her lips.  She places soft kisses on his stomach again before running her tongue down his happy trail.   She places soft kisses on each thigh before slowly taking his cock into her mouth.
"Fuck Eden." Chase moans running his fingers through her hair.
She sucks him in nice and slow running her tongue along the underside of his shaft.   She looks up locking eyes with him.   She keeps sucking him in and out of her mouth slowly.
"Fuck Eden that's it suck my dick baby." Chase moans gently pulling her hair as he starts to thrust.
Eden kept going slowly torturing him bringing him to the verge of cumming.
"God baby I am going to cum." Chase moans he didn't know what she wanted.
Eden gently starts to play with his balls never taking her eyes off him.
"Princess oh god." Chase moans as he cums hard down her throat.
Eden swallows every drop before slowly licking him clean.   She then slowly works her way back up his body pulling him in for a kiss.   She explores every inch of his mouth with her tongue letting him taste himself on her lips and tongue.   Chase slowly backs her towards the bed.  He breaks the kiss long enough to pull her shirt over her head tossing it.
"Jesus Eden that bra." Chase moans seeing it.
He pulls one strap down kissing her shoulder as he does.  Then kisses the other as he pulls that strap down.   He sucks and licks the tops of each breast peaking out from the cup.   He pulls the cups down taking one in his mouth running a circle around her nipple with his tongue before sucking on it gently nibbling on it bringing it to a peak.
"Clyde." Eden moans running her fingers in his hair.
Chase moves to the other breast doing the same thing.   He slowly unclasps the bra pulling it off tossing it aside as well.    He then kisses softly down her stomach to the band of her jeans.
He uses his teeth to pop open the button lightly nibbling on her belly as he slowly inches them down her hips and legs. Eden steps out of them kicking off her shoes.
"God baby those panties.  God so wet." Chase moans running his mouth over her pussy smelling her juices.
He then slowly works them down over her hips and down her legs.     Eden kicks them off.   He then slowly kisses his way up her legs placing a kiss on each thigh.   He blows cool breath across her mound as she slowly spreads her legs.   He runs his tongue up and down her slit before pushing inside starting to fuck her with his tongue.
Not long after he started Eden gently pulls his hair pulling him away from her.
"Fuck me Clyde." Eden  says all but begging him.
"God okay baby."  Chase says kissing his way up her body.   He picks her up kissing her letting her taste her on his lips and tongue and gently lays her down on the bed.
"God please Clyde I need you inside me now." Eden moans.
"God baby." Chase moans as he gently pushes inside her.
"God yes." Eden moans as he starts to thrust gently at first.
He wanted to go slow letting her adjust to his size.   She was so tight and wet.
"Jesus Eden you feel so good.  Like a glove." Chase moans.
"God fuck me Clyde hard and fast." Eden moans digging her nails into his back.
Chase moves a little harder and faster.   Eden wraps her legs around his waist letting him go deeper inside her.
"Eden oh god." Chase moans going even harder.
"Clyde god that's it." Eden moans as he stretched her even further.
She throws her head back arching into him.  It felt so good.
"God baby I am not going to last." Chase moans
"Cum baby let me feel it." Eden monas.
"Eden sweet Eden." Chase moans looking deep into her eyes as he cums hard deep inside her.
"Clyde oh god." Eden moans shuttering as her orgasm rushes through her.
She cums with him feeling him coat her insides.   She just moans as her body shutters from the pleasure.
Chase kisses her gently on the lips and then the jaw and neck as they ride it out.
"God Clyde again  I need you again." Eden moans.
She just wanted to feel that good again and not think about anything.
"Okay Eden but this time it will be nice and slow." Chase says.
"Please." Eden begs.
Chase starts to move again inside her taking it nice and slow.
"Eden god." Chase moans loving being inside her.
"Clyde god." Eden moans as he slowly builds her up.
"So close." Eden moans.
"Cum baby." Chase moans.
"Clyde." Eden moans as she cums.
"That's it baby milk my release." Chase moans as he cums again inside her.
They make love a few more times before Eden's eyelashes started to flutter.   Chase gets up.
"Where are you going?" Eden asks sleepily.
"Shhh baby I will be back." Chase says kissing her softly on the lips.
He goes into the bathroom grabbing a wash cloth wetting it with warm water.   He then comes over and gently wipes her down cleaning her.
He goes and tosses the rag in the hamper and then climbs into bed beside her.   She curls up to him laying her head on his chest.   Chase pulls the blanket up over them kissing her head as they both fall asleep.
**************************
The next morning Eden and Chase woke up when the alarm went off.
"Good morning baby:" Chase says.
"Good morning, oh god." Eden says getting up and running to the bathroom.
She made it just in time to empty her stomach in the toilet. Chase was right behind her. She got her everything up. Chase then picks her up gently and carries her back to bed.
"Sorry baby." Eden says.
"For what?" Chase asks.
"Getting sick." Eden replies.
"It's okay." Chase replies.
"I need to go back. I have to change before I head to practice." Eden replies.
"Yeah I know. I am glad I was able to see you." Chase says.
"Me too I will try and make the race on Sunday." Eden adds.
Chase smiles. He gives her a few shirts from his collection. They then head to the car and head back to Eden's hotel.
"I will see you later princess. I love you." Chase says.
"I will see you later Clyde. I love you too." Eden replies.
They share a few more kisses not wanting to part ways. But finally Eden heads inside and up to her room. She showered and got dressed and then heads down to the bus. Once everyone was on they head to the arena. Eden goes and gets the exam room set up in case they would need it for anything. That was when she felt arms snake around her waist.
"Hey baby, I missed you last night." Sid says.
"Hi Sid. Sorry I was so tired. Still getting used to the time change." Eden replies lying.
She didn't know what he would do if he knew she was with Chase. She was scared of him. It sucked cus she had a contract and had to work with the Penguins until the end of the 2021 season. Even though she wanted to quit.
"I know it can take effect on you but you will get used to it." Sid says.
"I know. Don't you have practice?" Eden asks.
" I do but I wanted to know if you were doing anything after?" Sid asks.
"No I don't. Sunday I am going to the NASCAR race before the game that night. But nothing today." Eden replies.
"Okay maybe I can come to your room, we can order room service and watch movies." Sid says.
"Okay." Eden says.
"Good see you then." Sid replies.
"Is Kris coming too?" Eden asks.
"Nope just me this time." Sid says.
"Okay." Eden replies.
Sid kisses her and leaves to attend practice. Eden grabs a little something from the snack bar and goes and watches practice. Halfway through Kris took a high stick to the face and there was blood.
"I got it." Eden says.
Kris comes down the runway and into the exam room. Eden follows him in. Kris was sitting on the table.
"Damn that hurt like a son of a bitch." Kris says.
"Sorry Kris." Eden says dabbing the blood away with a towel.
"It's okay. Is it bad?" Kris asks.
"Yes going to need stitches but shouldn't keep you out of the game tomorrow." Eden says.
"Good." Kris says.
Eden stitches him up. Kris puts his hand over hers.
"Thank you. Sorry for the other day Eden. Are you okay?" Kris asks.
"Yeah I'm okay. And your welcome it's my job." Eden says.
"I know. Im still thankful for you." Kris says.
"I know. I don't know what's going to happen between us but I promise I won't tell anyone about you and Sid. I just don't think I can do this. It took me to moving away and being away from him to realize how much I love Chase." Eden says.
"I know I can tell. Look if you want out that is fine. I know you won't tell anyone about me and Sid but I don't know if Sid will let you go." Kris says.
"I know." Eden says.
"Did you ever love us?" Kris asks.
"I loved you Kris you never hurt me.   Sid in the other hand." Eden says looking down.
"I'm sorry he hurt you Eden." Kris says lifting her head up.
He leans in and kisses her.    Eden kisses back.
"God." Eden moans as she pulls away.
"Go lock the door." Kris says.
Eden goes and locks the door.     She comes back over and climbs into his lap.
"God." Eden moans as he shreds her panties.
"I like skirts." Kris says.
"God." Eden moans as Kris pushes up into her.
"Ride me pretty girl. You know you want to." Kris says.
"God Kris." Eden moans as she starts to move up and down.
"That's it pretty girl." Kris says grabbing her hips.
They needed to be faster. Kris took control of their movements. Eden bit her arm throwing her head back to keep from screaming out. Kris nips and sucks her neck as they move.
"Eden fuck." Kris calls out as he cums hard deep inside of her.
"Kris. "Eden moans out as she cums with him.
They ride it out and Kris picks her up off of him. He stands up and fixes himself.
Kris then kisses her head before walking out the door. Eden collected herself. She then cleans up the exam room and prepared it from the game tomorrow. She then heads out and gets on the bus.
Once all the boys were on board they all head back to the hotel. Eden goes up to her room. She changes into her new Chase Elliott shirt and a pair of lounge pants. She wasn't feeling the greatest. She was laying down when there was a knock at her door. She gets up and opens it. Sid was there with room service and flowers.
"Come in." Eden says letting him in.
"Thanks." Sid says kissing her cheek.
Eden shuts the door.
"What did you bring?" Eden asks.
"Chicken noodle soup and ginger ale. Because I know you said you weren't feeling good." Sid says.
"I am not." Eden replies.
"I am sorry. Well let's eat and then we can relax and watch something on Netflix or something." Sid says.
Eden nods her head yes. So far it was going okay and she wasn't afraid. This was the Sid she started dating. They ate the soup and Eden nibbled the saltines. She sipped the ginger ale. Finally they laid in bed and Eden turned on Netflix. She turned on Sweet Home Alabama one of her favorite movies. She started to think about Chase. This movie was the story of their lives. Sid started to kiss her. Eden kisses back closing her eyes. As they were making out Sid runs his hands down her body. He runs them down her pants and under wear rubbing her pussy before sticking a finger in.
"Hmm nice and wet for me pretty girl." Sid says.
"Yes." Eden moans. She was pretending it was Chase.
"Want me to fuck you pretty girl?" Sid asks.
"Please." Eden begs.
Sid slides her pants and panties off followed by his jeans and boxer briefs. He then hovers over her running his tip along her entrance.
"Soaking for daddy." Sid moans.
"God don't tease." Eden begs.
Sid pushes into her and starts to move thrusting hard and fast.
"Fuck baby." Sid moans as she moves with him.
She wrapped her legs around his waist letting him go deeper.
"God." Eden moans digging her nails into his back.
She still had her eyes closed pretending it was Chase fucking her.
"That's it pretty girl milk my cock baby get ready to take my cum." Sid moans.
"GOd." Eden moans she was almost there.
"Fuck Eden god." Sid moans as he cums hard pumping her pussy full of his cum.
"Clyde oh god Clyde." Eden calls out as she cums too.
"What the fuck did you just call me?" Sid shouts slapping her.
Eden's eyes flashed open and she realized that by her fantasizing about Chase she called out his name.
"Umm." Eden says.
"Did you call me Clyde? Were you thinking about another man while I was fucking you." Sid screams at her.
Eden was so scared she didn't know what to say.
"Answer me you ungrateful ass whore." Sid screams.
"Yes I am so disgusted by you and how you treat me that in order for me to even attempt to have sex I have to think about Chase so I can get off." Eden screams out pushing him off of her.
She gets up off the bed. She was going to hide in the bathroom or something. She had her cell phone.
"You fucking whore. Don't you ever push me again or I will rip your hair out and choke you with it." Sid yells grabbing her hair pulling her back to him.
"Ow you are hurting me." Eden says.
"You think I fucking care. I hope it hurts. Remeber I am the only guy besides Kris who can cum in your sweet pussy. We are the only ones who can fuck you." Sid says.
"Fuck off Sid. I want out of this. I can't stand you. I fucking hate you. Get out." Eden screams turning around wailing out on him.
"You want to hit me bitch. I am going to show you." Sid says.
He picks her up throwing her back into the mirror glass shattering. He bashes her head against it not caring that it busted her head open. He then throws her down onto the floor throwing the mirror down on top of her covering her in glass.
"I will kill you before I ever let you leave." Sid says.
"Please I need help." Eden cries out.
"Fuck that bleed for all I care. If I can't have you no one will." Sid says as he kicks her hard.
Eden whimpers. Sid then leaves the room door slamming behind him. Eden still had her cell phone. It took everything in her to dial his number.
"Hey Princess." Chase says answering on the first ring.
"Chase help. I am hurt." Eden says.
"Eden? Where are you?" Chase asks panicked.
"Hotel Chase. Hurry." Eden says before she blacked out.
"Hang tight princess. I am coming to get you." Chase says.
You ever love somebody so much
You can barely breathe, when you're with them, you meet
And neither one of you, even know what hit 'em
Got that warm fuzzy feeling, yeah them chills, used to get 'em
Now you're getting fucking sick, of looking at 'em
You swore you've never hit 'em, never do nothing to hurt 'em
Now you're in each other's face,
Spewing venom in your words, when you spit 'em
You push, pull each other's hair, scratch, claw, bit 'em
Throw 'em down, pin 'em, so lost in the moments, when you're in 'em
It's the rage that took over it controls you both
So they say it's best, to go your separate ways
Guess that they don't know ya 'cause today, that was yesterday
Yesterday is over, it's a different day
Sound like broken records, playin' over, but you promised her
Next time you'll show restraint
You don't get another chance
Life is no Nintendo game, but you lied again
Now you get to watch her leave
Out the window, guess that's why they call it window pane
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
But that's alright, because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
But that's alright, because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

How Universal Picture is reinventing its classic monsters

How Universal Picture is reinventing its classic monsters
There’s nothing new under the sun, especially not in Hollywood. The recent wave of reboots, remakes and revivals seems to show no sign of stopping.
The Invisible Man, based on HG Wells’s novel and the 1933 Universal movie starring Claude Rains, is the latest film to update an iconic property. Elisabeth Moss now plays a woman haunted by an abusive ex-boyfriend, who has become her invisible stalker – turning the monster into a symbol of toxic masculinity for the #MeToo era. The original Invisible Man was a more straightforward mad scientist, and once part of the Universal movie monster lineup that included Dracula, the Wolf Man and Frankenstein. The studio’s own sequels and reboots created the concept of iconic characters showing up in each others’ films long before Avengers: Endgame marketed itself as the “most ambitious crossover event in history”.
It all began with a man named Carl Laemmle, or “Uncle Carl” to his employees. As founder and president of Universal Pictures, he oversaw the studio’s early years, and made hundreds of horror classics, including The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923), Dracula (1931) and Frankenstein(1931).
GERMAN EXPRESSIONISM The signature Universal style was heavily influenced by German Expressionism, thanks to the German-American Laemmles, who employed filmmakers from their homeland such as Karl Freund, the cinematographer for Dracula. Looming angular sets and nightmarish lighting made these monster movies as visually striking as Expressionist classics’ The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920) and Nosferatu (1922).
This stylistic choice made even their romantic melodramas like The Man Who Laughs (1928), which was directed by the German Expressionist filmmaker Paul Leni, look like a horror film. Joaquin Phoenix wouldn’t have won his Oscar this year if not for Conrad Veidt’s titular carnival freak character, Gwynplaine, since the creators of Batman’s nemesis the Joker in 1940 were directly influenced by the image of Veidt’s character, who was disfigured with a permanent grin.
Lon Chaney became the studio’s first star in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) and The Phantom of the Opera (1925), cementing his reputation as the “Man of a Thousand Faces”. His skill with makeup, as well as his affinity for pantomime as a child of deaf parents, allowed him to transform physically into his silent film roles. He brought a degree of sympathy to “monsters” like The Hunchback of Notre Dame‘s Quasimodo. Frankenstein and Dracula launched the careers of two struggling middle-aged foreign actors – Hungarian stage actor Bela Lugosi and Anglo-Indian Boris Karloff.
Lugosi was fond of mentioning his past as a respected actor in his homeland, regardless of how accurate that was. It’s certainly true that he had to leave Hungary in 1919 because of his activism in the actors’ union, after the country’s failed Communist uprising. Eventually Lugosi found his way to Broadway as Dracula. A kind of Robert Pattinson of his time, Lugosi attracted many female admirers through the role, including the “It Girl” of 1920s Hollywood, Clara Bow. After the film version, however, he resented how the role led to him being largely typecast for the rest of his career. His strong accent didn’t help, and over the years he ended up in more and more B-films.
Boris Karloff had acted in 80 films before being cast in a role Lugosi had rejected: Frankenstein’s Monster. His name was left off the credits in favour of a question mark as a promotional gimmick, and he wasn’t well-known enough to be invited to the premiere. He was looked upon as more of a human prop than a serious actor. No one could have predicted that the 43-year-old would become a star – not least because he had no dialogue, and looked unrecognisable after four hours in makeup every day. But “the dear old boy”, as Karloff referred to the monster, kicked off a long career as a horror star.
They tried to cast Karloff in The Invisible Man as well, but pay disputes allowed British-American actor Rains to step in and deliver an implausibly impressive breakout performance as a character whose face is only seen for half a minute. Even though the perspective has now shifted from the “man” himself to one of his victims in the 2020 reboot, it’s not the first alternative take on the classic. Universal came up with the gender-swapped sequel The Invisible Woman and the war propaganda film Invisible Agent during the 1940s.
SEQUELS, TIMELESS IMAGES All of the more successful Universal films inspired sequels, of varying quality. Unanimously considered one of the best sequels in cinema history, and probably one of the best monster movies, was Bride of Frankenstein (1935). James Whale, who had also directed the first Frankenstein and The Invisible Man, lived openly as a gay man. This has led to film scholars reading homoeroticism into the sequel he directed, where Dr Pretorious (played by Ernest Thesiger) tempts Dr Frankenstein away from his wife to create another unnatural life form.
Whale’s inspiration for the Bride was Maria, the female robot from Fritz Lang’s Metropolis (1927). Elsa Lanchester’s towering black and silver hair in Bride of Frankenstein became one of the most timeless images in horror, and her character allows for a more sympathetic take on the central creature than the first film. The Monster doesn’t speak in the original Frankenstein, but him learning to talk undeniably lends pathos to the character in this sequel, when he poignantly tells Dr Pretorious “I want friend like me.” By giving him a voice, Whale transformed the Frankenstein story into a paean to the outsider.
Although the Laemmles were ousted from Universal a year after Bride of Frankenstein, the success the studio had experienced in the 1930s allowed Uncle Carl to take on a heroic cause. He sponsored hundreds of Jews from his home town of Laupheim and Württemberg, paying both emigration and immigration fees to ensure they escaped Nazi Germany. Laemmle also used his contacts in the House of Representatives to ensure and facilitate immigration to the United States for those fleeing the Holocaust.
Adecline in Universal’s horror output after the Laemmles’s departure led to undeniably gimmicky films like Son of Frankenstein (1939), which united Karloff and Lugosi and made the Monster mute again. Eventually, producers turned to another genre altogether: comedy. The comedy duo Abbott and Costello had been working in films since 1940, and became a guaranteed box office draw over the course of the decade. When they made Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948), Lou Costello hated the script, and allegedly said his five-year-old daughter could write better jokes. There was trepidation about bringing back Lugosi as Dracula and Chaney Jr as the Wolf Man in this comedy. But audiences disagreed with Costello, flocking to a film where the humour and the horror both had room to breathe.
This success kicked off a series where Abbott and Costello met the Invisible Man, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and the Mummy, with diminishing returns. Universal managed to produce one more classic movie monster in the Fifties – Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) – and dabbled in 3D technology. Lugosi, by now severely addicted to methadone and morphine, was living in obscurity and near poverty when one of the most infamously terrible directors of all time decided to champion him. Ed Wood, the Tommy Wiseau of the 1950s, used Lugosi in the low-budget flicks Glen or Glenda, Bride of the Monster and Plan 9 from Outer Space. These Z-movies would eventually inspire a cult following when they were rediscovered in the 1980s. Martin Landau also won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Lugosi in Tim Burton’s film Ed Wood (1994).
Karloff was luckier than his old co-star, and worked consistently until his death in 1969. He showed up often in films by Roger Corman, the indie genre film producer who launched the careers of Francis Ford Coppola, Jack Nicholson and Martin Scorsese, among others. He also narrated the classic Dr Seuss cartoon How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Karloff, who suffered from emphysema, only had half of one lung still functioning while he performed his final roles, and required a wheelchair and oxygen between takes. He died of pneumonia in England at the age of 81.
It wasn’t until channels like WABC-TV began playing Universal monster movies late at night in the late Fifties, and Maila Nurmi introduced them as the campily glamorous horror host character Vampira, that they gained their legendary status. These late night marathons created a new generation of fans, and the films’ relevance resurged. Director Guillermo del Toro became one of those fans when he saw Creature from the Black Lagoon at the age of six. He tried to make an official reboot of the Universal series but was rebuffed: “I went to Universal and I said, ‘Can we do the movie from the point of view of the creature?’ They didn’t go for it. I said, ‘I think they should end up together.’ They didn’t go for that, either.”
Instead, he made The Shape of Water, which won the Best Picture Award at the 2018 Oscars. This subversively romantic take on a movie monster was far more critically acclaimed than Universal’s own hamfisted attempt at re-launching their own franchise, The Mummy (2017). This latest woman-centric spin on The Invisible Man will provide a far different take from Rains in 1933, and won’t include the stylistic German Expressionist sets or lighting that once defined a Universal film’s look. But as the studio’s history proves, the original monster movies were constantly reshuffled, reinvented and written into crossovers to suit changing tastes. The story of Universal classic monsters is one of reinvention.

LAS VEGAS—When we weren’t pounding the pavement at last week’s overloaded CES trade show, we at Ars Technica took whatever opportunity we could to nerd out in uniquely Vegas style. That didn’t mean dumping our spare quarters into a Lord of the Rings-themed slot machine; it meant hitching a ride to the Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame.
This collection of roughly 260 working pinball, electromechanical, and video games has been open to the public for over a decade, with its 2006 opening followed by a size-boosting relocation in 2009 to a venue two miles down Tropicana Avenue. It arguably includes the most varied and valuable open-every-day collection of pinball and pinball-like games in the United States, if not the world—but you’d never know it by simply passing the building.
Inside this concrete slab hides the biggest collection of the rarest pinball and electromechanical games ever made.
Sam Machkovech
This was taken by standing on a chair in one corner of the venue. You can get a sense of the machine variety here: mostly pinball and electromechanical, with about one-fifth of the space dedicated to video games.
Sam Machkovech
This is probably the best representation of the dim lighting in the room.
Sam Machkovech
Follow the rules.
Sam Machkovech
The rarest machine in the house by far, Midway’s Pinball Circus. Only two were ever made.
Sam Machkovech
We chose not to reproduce most of the information cards so you would have more to read should you visit the venue. But we had to post a few. This one’s crucial.
The VPHoF’s oldest pinball machine is from the 1920s. “These things used to be outlawed!” our guide reminded us.
That old machine sits next to arguably the collection’s highest-tech virtual pinball machine.
An average dive into an older machine. Start with the full, beautifully restored machine.
Then look closer at the Atlantis pin’s general body and layout.
Then zoom in on its information card. You’ll possibly need to squint.
Nearly one third of the room is dedicated to this ’50s and ’60s era of pins.
A few Elton John-based machines were in the house.
We did the best we could with the room’s weird lighting, in terms of imbalances thanks to inlaid lights in the machines.
Abra-ca-dabra! It sure was a different era when Gottlieb made so many pins.
Imagine if this game’s designers pulled off a mechanical way to arrange dominoes like shown in the art. Even so, it’s a striking design as drawn.
Rockin’.
I’m still floored by how the bouncy balls inside that Hi-Score Pool pin worked in action.
A closer look.
The collection’s more modern machines flank the wall near the entrance.
It’s impossible to get a photo that makes Black Hole look as good as it does in real life. Its black-on-black-on-black style has an incredible glow and effect.
More of Gottlieb’s best era.
A collection so bustling, Creature Of The Black Lagoon gets crowded out.
Not to be confused with Peppy the Clown, who appears in the second gallery.
KISS returned with a modern pin via Stern; this is not that version.
Street Fighter II: The Video Game: The Pinball Game.
This probably cost less to produce than the related film.
No shortage of sci-fi-themed pins at the VPHOF.
Not every day you run into the phrase Goldeneye 007 flanked by a big Sega logo. This came before Nintendo and Rare’s N64 classic.
I can think of two Elvira-themed pinball games from the 1980s, including this one.
One row had a space theme.
Another angle of those two pins, with ST:TNG flanking.
Continuing the space-license theme.
A zoom on that Spider-man machine.
This rare Q-bert machine is a treat.
Great ramps and action.
Not many of these exist.
And even fewer of its Goin’ Nuts spinoff exist. Like, only 10.
It’s hard to tell from the photo, but this Flintstones cab is gargantuan. About as big as a typical arcade-hall basketball game.
Giant flippers.
More Flintstones info.
Vegas, baby.
In case the full pinball table didn’t make it clear, this is a pinball game. Hold that pinball, Freddy.
Nightmare’s game board.
For a short spell, a few games capitalized on the popularity of Caddyshack by including old white dudes, golf, and pesky gophers. None of them officially mentioned Caddyshack.
The warehouse’s nondescript exterior only stands out thanks to a shopping-center marker and a single yellow sign above its front door. Walk in, and you may very well wonder if it’s technically open, considering the full room is unlit and there’s nobody acting as a greeter, taking a cover charge, or explaining how the venue works.
But what this room lacks in glitz or presentation, it makes up for in sheer pinball fandom. Every machine includes an index card covered in misspelled, chicken-scratch handwriting, with all kinds of details about a particular game’s general-interest trivia and minutia about the VPHoF’s edition in particular. (A few information cards appear in the above and below galleries.) The venue’s staff, meanwhile, keeps busy. Rather than work the door, they typically manage ongoing machine repairs and game swaps, as the venue frequently swaps its roughly 260 playable games out from a nearby warehouse with another 800-plus machines. Newer pinball games, along with the VPHoF’s rarest and most popular classics, are the inventory-swap exceptions, enjoying near-permanent status in the playable collection.
Let’s start this “electromechanical” gallery—meaning, games outside the pinball realm—with the delightful and weird Skid Row.
Sam Machkovech
An explainer. The HOF also had an Ice Cold Beer machine, which is similar in style but quite different in mechanics.
Need some two-player pinball in your life? The incredible and rare Challenger has you covered. Roughly 100 were produced. The table tilts depending on how well your side does.
Chicago Coin’s Slap Shot is also a fine two-player game, but it cannot be mistaken for pinball. This is straight-up versus hockey.
I appreciate this placement of the colorful, oddball clown machine next to the sex tester. Get a double dose of scary stuff, kids.
The collection includes quite a few gun games.
Plenty of bowling-launcher games, too.
Though, really, none of the bowling-styled games top this beast.
Another angle.
And you better believe the HOF has its share of baseball-like games.
Batter up!
The wind-up, and the pitch.
Baseball, arm wrestling, basketball.
In the center is Bally’s Target-Roll, a sort of roulette- and craps-like target-shooting game.
If this were working, you’d aim the rotation and angle of this ship as it spins around, trying to contact the other metal rods nearby.
This isn’t straight-up pinball; you’re actually managing the movement of cars around a track while playing, and you’re going for laps, not score.
Shoot-‘n-race. We had to wait for the video game era before someone combined these concepts.
“Shoot this rifle!” “No, shoot this rifle!”
Goalee is essentially a one-on-one hockey game. “One can play,” but it’s really like playing Pong against yourself.
We spent less time cataloging the video games on site, but we had to make room for this sit-down Star Trek cab.
Same can be said for this rarely-seen Nintendo duo of versus light-gun games.
We actually didn’t notice that the display was upside down until reviewing these photos. How odd.
“As machines go off to that big arcade in heaven, they lose their value,” a staffer told us while showing us around the collection. This is only made more complicated by the lack of new replacement parts existing for a lot of machines, the staffer added. “If the tech dies, the [game in question] either winds up in the Smithsonian or our backyard.”
VPHoF prices its games individually at 25 or 50 cents a play—hence, why it houses so many change-making machines, including a block of four side-by-side. That’s it for cost; visitors don’t have to pay a cover fee on top. These coin-catch mechanisms are specifically used, instead of being set to free-to-play, as part of the preservation process, in fact. “If the games aren’t played, they will say, ‘fuck you,’ because they dry out, and they get corroded,” the staffer told Ars. “They need to be played.”
Thus, while VPHoF, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, will gladly accept donations to maintain operation and repair costs, the owners and operators say they’re actually more interested in visitors coming to the place and going hands-on with the collection. If the above galleries (split into pinball, first, and electromechanical, second) aren’t hint enough, please accept our assurance that the venue is absolutely worth the detour during a Vegas trip, roughly eight minutes’ drive from McCarran Airport.

Ever wanted to know more about your favorite staff member? Now you can! Every month we will be interviewing a different member of the MyVMK Staff. Here is the most recent interview!
She's not a glitch.. She just has pixlexia okay? Start your engines for this month's Staff member of the Month VMK_Schweetz!
Tumblr media
What is your favorite thing to do around the Kingdom?
My favorite thing to do is walk down the middle of Main Street both during the holidays to see the beautiful decorations and just normally. It makes me feel like I am actually there!
What is the best item for building your rooms?
This is tricky. Am I allowed to say glitched pixels? I use those a lot. I keep like, one-hundred of them in my inventory at all times so I don't run out, and I do run out of them rather quickly.
What has been your favorite game to host thus far?
Oh gosh. I think my favorite would have to be Dreams Month. It was so much fun when all the HOSTs and Moderators went around spreading joy to the MyVMK Community while somehow in the process bringing us all together.
What is your favorite mini-game in MyVMK?
Haunted Mansion. Who doesn't like catching some ghosts while pretending to be a ghost buster?
What is your favorite type of Guest Room?
The Beauty and the Beast Ballroom! It's so pretty and the music that plays when you enter it is just so perfect! <3</p>
Favorite MyVMK memory?
The first time I met Amy! It was during dreams month. She literally trolled me in front of some people in the Esplanade. It was absolutely hilarious and I will never forget it. I still laugh at it now!
What is your favorite Public Room in the Kingdom?
This is a tough question because I have so many. Sci-Fi Dine-In, Castle Forecourt, Fantasyland In The Sky; it's just so hard to choose!
What is your favorite theme on VMK?
Anything Christmas related. I just love Christmas so much. It's the time of the year that brings family and friends together and I think that's a magical thing.
What is your favorite Disney park?
The Magic Kingdom! It's so magical just walking around the park and seeing all of Walt Disney's creations.
Who is your favorite Disney Character?
I have like, three. That would be Lucky from 101 Dalmatians, Stitch from Lilo and Stitch, and Vanellope Von Schweetz for obvious reasons! Lucky was my first ever favorite Disney character and will always have a special place in my heart.
Is there any advice you would give to players?
Be respectful to others and treat people the way you would want to be treated. You never know what could be happening in another person's life behind that screen.

Day 04 - Hollywood Studios
TLDR: Hollywood Studios today. Absolutely non stop for the first five hours, attraction highlights include Frozen Sing Along, Star Tours, & Indy. Oh and some awesome guy won Toy Story Mania :P We missed Tower of Terror due to a late family lunch at a Drive In style Diner. Awesome lunch. Heavy Rain. Rain jackets on. Home. Mall. Purchased a new laptop. Missed dinner with the rest of the group, due to the aforementioned late family lunch. No appetite for dinner. Wrote today's entry on the new laptop - so. much. fastness! Good decision. End.
Hoo-ray for Hollywood!
We had to hit Hollywood Studios early for Jedi Academy registration as you can't book it in advance, which meant skipping breakfast (I really shouldn't even expect anything else, should I?). Kids managed to grab a banana but Ann and myself were good to wait, though we did receive our regular morning coffees courtesy of my parents (or their hotel rather).
Patrick loves learning about everything and has been churning out little tidbits of impressive yet totally useless facts at random intervals since we got here. So I'm introducing a new segment for the blog, Patrick's Fun Fact of the Day. So Patrick's Fun Fact of the Day for today is this:
Water is the only substance which is heavier in its liquid form than when its a solid. Hence why ice floats on water.
(Some research into this does reveal that there are a handful of other unusual substances which exhibit the same property, but I'm gonna give him this one - he's still only 10). Look out for future installments soon!
Once we reached Hollywood Studios, we made a bee-line for the Jedi Academy to register. I remember from last time that the queues and wait were massive, but this time it was much more efficient, which is no bad thing. Had a return time for late afternoon, after lunch, which meant that our morning plan (which was pretty jam-packed), was untouched.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A little light one to start us off, the Path Of the Jedi - a 10 minute video which was a compilation of some of the best bits from all the Star Wars movies. For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times, before the Empire. I've seen the movies hundreds of time but hearing these opening lines from Alec Guinness, sent shivers down my spine. Then seeing Carrie Fisher as the feisty Princess Leia, only added to it. One thing I forgot to mention on the first day was Robin Williams being the sole reason for me choosing The Genie for my Magic Band. There are certain people who absence on this earth you still struggle to get your head around and reminders of them bring are always laced with a little sadness. Williams is one and Carrie Fisher is another. Seeing Princess Leia on screen is amazing and heartbreaking in equal measure. The Last Jedi is going to be a sore one for many people I think. Anyway I digress. Even my brother Michael, who has never really seen the movies (yeah I know), said they looked good and wouldn't mind watching them.
Next up, was For A First Time In Forever, a Frozen Sing Along Celebration.  I might have said this before but this was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time (except those funny Buzz-feed posts about people completely misspelling words - that shit is funny, man). The two main characters, some random unknown characters, though not as unknown as the Arendelle baby (family in-joke, sorry), but their patter and puns were just brilliant, I couldn't stop laughing! The show essentially was a karaoke for (most of) the songs from Frozen and the girls, who were singing away without missing a word, loved it. Side note, this scene in the movie is my most favorite-est part ever, and its not because I fancy Elsa (though it kind of is).
Tumblr media
And here’s a few more, including Grace & Emily singing along to the finale, which covered the whole audience in a blanket of snow :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
More Star Wars-y goodness in Star Tours, our first Fast Pass, was up next. We were all placed in the first two rows so had great seats! Prior to lifting off in our little spacecraft piloted by the Galaxy's favourite robotic duo, Threepio and R2, they select a random in the audience, who has been identified as the Rebel Spy. And Emily was selected as the Rebel Spy!!! :D Great simulator ride through Kashyyyk, Naboo & the Gungan City and wee BB8 even made an appearance. The kids were howling and screaming every time we dodged a Star Destroyer or Tie Fighter - fantastic ride. Gracie then wanted to buy a Chewie and Lightsaber in the wee shop after the ride, but as we were returning though it best to do it then, instead of carrying it about all day, she wasn't too pleased (kids can be so impatient, haha).
Indy next, and this was the Epic Stunt Spectacular lived up to its name. Not really changed in the last few decades but still a must-see. Even wee Isabella was going really excited by all the explosions and acrobatics. Pictures speak louder than words as they say, so here’s a few from today.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stopped for a breather as it was pretty non stop since getting to the park, so the guys got some lunch while we just opted for some desserts as we had lunch booked for later in the day at Sci-fi Dine In Theater.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reach For The Sky!
After everyone was re=energized it was time for a bit of friendly competition in our next Fast Pass: Toy Story Mania, a 3-D shooting game where points mean... well just points, so the highest one wins. I’ve been unbeaten at this for the last two trips so I was psyching myself up beforehand as there were a few new contenders on the block.
The Official Toy Story Mania Leader-board 2017
Gerry: 175400
Corrie: 144200
Michael: 137300
Ann: 128300
Kevin: 121600
Patrick: 90400 (?)
Robert: 78200
Pauline: 73600
Mum: 53600
Wullie: 53400
Alessio: 30200
Gracie: 20400
Emily: 16500
Oh looks who's top... I retain my Toy Story Crown for another year and absolutely smashed last visits score of 143,000. BOOM! Now to find somewhere to get this printed and laminated! :P Just need to continue my streak on Men In Black and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and Ill have won the Treble! We just made Beauty and the Beast Musical last show after that, and had pretty poor seats way at the back. It didn’t help that there was a big guy sitting right in front of me, blocking my or rather my camera's, vision. Great show which mirrored the animated classic (just like the live action movie, like seriously, no change or twist at all???).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although we were right next to The Twilight Zone Tower Of Terror after existing Beauty, we had lunch booked, so unfortunately had to skip out on our last Fast Pass. Emily talked non stop about the Tower Of Terror before the holiday so she was more than excited at this point and she absolutely loved it. She was joined with Kevin, Michael, Sarah Jane and Corrie.
Attack Of The 50ft Woman!
I think the first time I seen the iconic poster for this movie was in McFly's - a bar in Coatbridge Main St, which was my first real pub growing up. Some fond memories in there, and many hazy ones. Sci-Fi Dine In Theater - this place was the real deal, Cadillacs for booths, a huge screen showing clips of 50s classics. 50's style waiters and waitresses, milkshakes, retro decor all in the style of a 50's drive in (think Jack Rabbit Slims in Pulp Fiction with a big screen). It was phenomenal and really glad we booked it, 180 days or so ago now. I went for a Reuben sandwich (awesome), Patrick, a Caprese sandwich (possibly slightly better than mine, possibly), Robert settled on a classic cheeseburger and Ann & Gracie split a rack of ribs and a stack of onion rings. Root beer all round save for me who went with a classic Cherry Coke which came topped with a cherry on top (which that wee sneak-thief Gracie snaffled while I was watching the big screen). All served by the lovely Flora. Bonus Fun Fact Of The Day from Patrick: There were 48 cars in total in the restaurant, each representing one of the 48 states in 1955 :D Our car was from California. Highly recommend this one for anyone visiting, if you like that sort of thing.
You are no Jedi.
When we exited it started raining, HARD. We all had rain jackets, including my camera bag (thank you Manfrotto, you wonderful, thoughtful camera bag maker, you). This was similar to the other night, but I supposed we were better prepared for it this time. We found out where the rest of the party was, and caught up with them. They had just came out of The Great Movie Ride, and after a quick discussion, we agreed that heading home would be the best option. We had covered most of the main rides, with only a few smaller ones remaining, so not really missing anything. Leaving meant no Jedi Training, but they call off the Academy in the event of heavy rain anyway, so we may want to catch it again on our return (you could even call it, Return Of The Jedi! Ok, Ill shut up). We said our goodbyes (quickly) to the other party and set off from the park in a nice warm car (which is usually a bad thing, most days). We were comparing it to the day we visited Typhoon Lagoon two years ago, when it absolutely poured and it was such a vivid memory as the traffic was horrendously bad and took forever to get home. Then we ended up on Same road as typhoon lagoon, dun dun DUN! No delays this time around though, which was good.
Now Tuesday is Kids Eat Free at Miller's Alehouse and we had pre-arranged to all go there tonight, well except that I forgot that our lunch was so late at Hollywood, which meant we had not long eaten. So we dropped my mum and dad off at their hotel and said that we'd see how we felt about dinner later on. For the past few days Id been scouring the internet look for a laptop to replace the absolute dinosaur of a machine that I brought with me. The prices in general were pretty terrific, so I'd narrowed down a few from Best Buy and we made a plan to go pick one up. We got to the shop, where we were instantly set upon by a server asking what I was looking for, I explained the particular model, and she showed them to me. She then asked what it was for and I explained it was for internet and some photo editing. She then directed me towards some laptops at double the price, saying that these ones had touchscreen and had a better processor (it actually had the same processor, but I let it go). I mean don’t get me wrong she was pleasant enough, but don’t try and sell people Office by calling it 'Microsoft' - you either don’t know your stuff or that’s just a sales tactic to trip anyone up who doesn't know any better. I got the feeling it was the later after the hard sell on everything else, which is just plain wrong.
The thing is I wasn't planning to buy a laptop over here but after seeing the prices thought it would be good idea, but I really didn't want to spend a lot on it. To put it in perspective, the one I was looking at was $449 - the same spec machine in PC World back home was 500 quid! I don’t think the assistant really knew what she was talking about in all fairness, though it didn't help with Ann calling Lightroom, LIGHTNING ROOM! Haha, it was like that sketch from The Interns where Vince Vaughn kept saying 'On The Line' instead of Online. Wee soul :P
Going out to the Mall we got stuck in traffic, which meant that going for dinner was definitely out for us. Werent particularly hunger still, so just picked up some snacks, on the way home. When I unpacked and set up the laptop (it took a while to download and install Lightning Room ;) but I was more than impressed. Example - on the first night it took over 4hrs to download around 500 images from a 16Gb memory card. This laptop took less than 10 minutes to do the same. It actually seems to run faster than my Mac at home, so might need to look into a wee upgrade in the near future. On a complete unrelated note, Ann is  the most beautiful-est, prettiest girl in all the seven kingdoms... ;)
To round off today, here’s our first wee family pic from Memory Maker taken this afternoon (when it was still sunny :)
