The Gift of Microsoft
To be honest, I didn't really realize what I was getting myself into last May when I visited Microsoft in Seattle. And to be (embarrassingly) honest, growing up I didn't really realize that computers came without the Microsoft Office Suite until I bought my first computer when I was 16.
You can't really understand how much of a giant Microsoft is until you visit them - Microsoft is large network of people simultaneously working insanely hard to make the world a better and more creative place. When visiting in May, I had no idea that it would span a partnership and newfound love for a company that has been with me my entire life. As I write my last post as an Microsoft Office spokesperson, I thought I'd end it on a sweet note about what happened after I visited.
As a part of the initial visit, I received a Surface. I had known how user friendly they were because my mom had one and loved it, but I had never personally used one. Over my week visit with Microsoft in Seattle, I grew to love the Notebook and even transitioned to using it over my Macbook. After getting home, I had learned that my dad's desktop crashed. He searched endlessly to find the right computer to replace the one he loved, but couldn’t settle. Being that I had a brand new computer in my hands, I decided I would give it to him and teach him everything I had learned in the week prior during my trip. While he already knew how to use Word and Excel, I helped him build on his presenting skills through PowerPoint and Sway. Not only was I able to help him by giving him something he needed, but we were able to spend time together as father and daughter.
Microsoft has given me the gift of learning to myself and many others all over the world, the gift of friendship (hi, Sarah!), and above all, the gift to giving to my own family. It really doesn't get much better than that.
A HUGE thank you to the Microsoft family for everything in the last nine month. xx

What’s New for WindowsPhone
One of the best part of participating in the #OfficeChamps Ambassador Program is getting an insiders look at what’s new from Microsoft. I just got the upgraded phone and have been loving accessing all my files … Continue reading → http://bit.ly/1qPzqnl

Teaching At NYU x Sway
One of the biggest concerns I had when I was hired by NYU was that my lessons would be too bland resulting in the fact that I would be a terrible instructor. I've guest lectured for a handful of universities before, but having your own class is a lot different. You have to keep them engaged and interested in the material. How scary! As I had been sifting through the different methods to deliver content to my students, I landed on Sway. Sway is an app that helps you easily create and share a polished, interactive, web-based canvas across any screen. Think of Sway as super interactive PowerPoint of Prezi. When looking for new platforms to use, I always make sure they're easy to use and the design of the platform is beautiful. So far, my two favorite things about Sway have been:
I'm able to add content easily from different sources. When building out my lecture material, I'm often pulling content from different places. Because Sway is seamlessly integrated with OneDrive, my computer & phone, all my social networks, and the overall internet, I'm able to drag and drop anything right into my Sway.
I'm building interactive experiences for others to enjoy. Being surrounded by some of the most talented people in my industry, I always want to make sure whatever I present is interesting in content and engaging for a memorable experience. With Sway I've been able to paste the HTML embed code from online media (think, YouTube, Vine, Flickr, Twitter) and add it to my Sway. Do you know how much easier that is than screenshotting content?
At the end of the day, from my blog to standing in front of students in a classroom I want to make sure everyone is learning. Sway has made my lectures a guide of reference material that those students can use in the classroom, and when they finish the course. Join me on Sway today.

My Latest Time-Saving Obsession: Outlook for iOS
If there's one thing that I learned when I visited Microsoft in Seattle last May, it's that they're constantly working to improve the technology they have. Every time Microsoft releases a new update, the software gets smarter and smarter; this time around, Microsoft has launched Outlook for iOS.
Between my personal e-mail, work e-mail, blog e-mails, spam e-mails, and newly added NYU e-mails I constantly feel like I'm 20 steps behind in life. The new Outlook helps me focus on what's most important. I know it sounds crazy to credit a new update for changing my working style, but I dare you to keep reading. First, the new update works to separate e-mail into two tabs - Focused and Other.
Important emails appear in a Focused inbox
Everything else is filed in "Other"
Another great thing that helps with my super busy lifestyle: SCHEDULING. You all know I'm big on planning my days out, hour by hour. The new update is so great that if I get an e-mail pertaining to a new event, breakfast, or anything I have to go to with a date and time - I can program Outlook to "schedule" the event when I swipe right. Easy, right? No more weird app fumbling.
The best is yet to come: Outlook syncs all mail, Gmail, your iCloud, contacts, calendar and files from Office 365. Act like I'll ever use another service again. Try Outlook for iOS yourself.

Nicole Loher x Microsoft Give Away
It's the most wonderful time of year! (No really, it is.) I'm a big believer in giving back, especially during the holiday season. This year I've partnered with Microsoft to give away a one-year subscription of Office 365 Home to one lucky reader. All you have to do is reblog this post! I will randomly select & announce the winner on Tumblr on January 4th!
This year OneNote is helping me plan for the holiday season - everything from organizing the guest list for my family's annual Christmas dinner in Excel to saving links to my what I'll hopefully be wearing on New Years Eve. The best part is all of that saved information stays with me wherever I end up - no need to carry around a flash drive.
The subscription includes:
1. The latest and most complete set of Office applications - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher and Access
2. Unlimited cloud storage via OneDrive
3. 60 free Skype world calling minutes per month to call mobile phones, landlines or PCs around the world
4. Future upgrades, so you always use the latest technology
Good luck & happy holidays!
Love, Microsoft + Me

Nicole Loher x #OfficeChamps
Thanksgiving, what a lovely time of year. A few days of rest and relaxation surrounded by family and copious amounts of food. Thanksgiving actually happens to be my favorite time of year - leaves changing, layering sweaters and scarves, cuddling with significant others.
This year I went a bit rogue for the holidays and booked an insanely unexpected trip to Tulum with some friends. (Totally crazy, I know.) For FIVE whole days I’ll be away from my family, friends and work! I’m a little worried, to be honest, but luckily, as a part of my Office 365 Home subscription, I’ll have Skype to keep me in touch with my family (they’ll totally be Skyping me into their holiday dinner while I am having a margarita on the beach) and OneDrive to keep me connected with my work. With my OneDrive account I’m able to update documents from afar - even as far as Tulum - and share them with my teammates back in New York City. Pretty great, huh? It’ll kind of be like I didn’t even leave ;)
What will you be doing for the holiday? Hope it’s amazing!

You don’t have to be a tech guru to appreciate the ways Microsoft helps busy women get things done.
