I've gotten to thinking about this and now I must know:
And I want details! Does he rent? Have roommates? Has he decorated his living space? What's the floor plan? Did he move after his promotion (and higher salary)? Does it feel like home to him?
Some of these are what I think would be realistic, some less so. Mostly based on what I've seen in fics or what I think the most likely options are (or likely adjacent). Maybe one day I'll do a post S3 version but we'll see.
(Elias version!)
#voting in this one as well#honestly i flip-flop between studio and one-bedroom#sparsely decorated with a handful of knickknacks#(some he couldn't bear to part with. some he got because he sort of thought that he had to)#it's cozy. i think he likes a lot of darker wood tones. likes to keep the curtains drawn too (Autism Light Sensitivity) (Projection)#but i don't think he put THAT much thought into decorating#the house is clean enough (more by virtue of not being very well lived-in than by nature of jon's tidyness) but his office is a fucking mes#(sidenote: his often is either in his bedroom. is the bedroom. or is a desk in the living room)#there's just so much work!!#oh but god help you if you so much as shift one of his fucking papers#and yes he knows where all of them are. he will Notice.#he's probably on the third or forth floor.#his building is pretty old. cramped dark hallway with chipped paint#honestly i imagine the floorplan as being very similar to my home?#tbh when thinking about house layouts it's almost always based on something i'm familiar with#(my friend's childhood home is the basis for SOOOOO many imagined scenes in my head lmao)#I think his building has a brick exterior#jon sims#jonathan sims#jarchivist#tma#the magnus archives

It's always interesting to hear about people's weird/unexpected "alternate life paths". Like, something that you could have done with your life, a job you almost took, a school you almost went to, etc - that was still actually realistic enough that it could have happened, but NOW it seems to not suit your current personality.
Like for example, I currently hate advertising (how manipulative it is, brands trying to be 'relatable', social media amplifying it to an obnoxious extreme, etc.) so much that even seeing a little ad before a youtube video is grating to even witness, but there was a point in time where I was genuinely seriously considering going into marketing/making commercials as a career lol. Or like, I have a relative who was very inclined to be a pastor when they were younger, even though today they're a super strong atheist, etc. etc.
#BECAUSE I knew I really liked filming and editing things and doing set design and costume design (from having done little bits of that#here and there in media classes and my own stuff - i used to be a lot more into making videos than I am now). BUT I was always thinking#that a movie is WAAY to big and long. even a short film. So I was trying to think of ways I could still like#have the fun of scouting locations to film and dressing up actors and etc. etc. without it having to be a Huge Million Dollar Production#on tv show or movie level. SO then I was thinking about like... just doing commercials. Or music videos. Like shorter things where I still#get the fun of the filming and everything but it's less of an intensive long term project.#So there is an alternate version of me (I suppose if i somehow did not end up having physical and mental health issues#as badly somehow.. or like.. randomly came into wealth and was able to pay my way through a nice college despite missing#days constantly being out because I'm sick or something lol) that works in some corporate advertising office coming up with commercials#and directing or filming them or doing the sets for them or something in that general vicinity.#I also was considering being a corporate psychologist. or whatever its called.. oh from google:#''Industrial and organizational (I/O) psychologists study and assess individual group and organization dynamics in the workplace''#I don't think I even knew what the job entailed. I was at the time just thinking like.. the type of person that comes into a business offic#and gives everyone personality assessments or does MBTI or big-5 testing crap for whatever reason that some businesses get that#done for people. Really i just wanted to be in a Corporate Big Office setting yet still do psychology. Because I used to be really fixated#on living in a big city. Like the ideas of everything being walkable. picking up a coffee in the morning. walking to my job in a Big#Skyscraper Building. people watching in a huge hotel lobby for lunch. flying frequently (I love airplanes and airports aesthetically).#living in an apartment with a giant window overlooking the city. etc. etc. BUT that was before i had really BEEN to a city. Then I actually#hung around a city a few times and went places and I was like... AUGh... The Sensory Overwhelm.. cars people lights loudness noise scary#everything happening all at once. etc. etc. (though even when I wanted to live in a city i NEVER strove for the Night Life. when i say I#enjoy city imagery I mean like... in the day time. Many people who like cities talk about The Night Life and post pictures of cities all#lit up at night and clubs and dancing and restaurants. none of that EVER appealed to me. perhaps a sign I am not a real city person. Like#I am NOT standing in a crowded bar full of loud people in the middle of the night lol.. get AWAY from me!!) but I do adore the#architecture of like bright white clean sterile modern spaces like huge airport lobbies or malls or etc. I think thats what reminded me of#city and what I liked about the idea of that life. Like I always LOVED the layout of schools and hospitals and trainstations and public#transport in general. Though even then I knew enough that I would not be a good architect/city planner. so I guess my adoration for those#spaces was merely to be channeled into LIVING there. but then I realized I didn't even really want to do that that much. I mean I still#definitely aim to live NEAR a city. like the little areas outside of it. I would never live in a rural place 4 hours from anything. I liter#ally just COULDNT since I need close access to hospitals sometimes lol. But I used to want to live in the CENTER of citites like high rise#condo. and now I'm like.... eh....... perhaps a smaller quieter walkable space nearby lol.. ANYWAY.. alternate me in my Business Suit eheh

got a good grade at the dentist today against all odds 😇 it's been uuuhhhh 8 years since my last check-up (i know, i know, i have a final boss-sized mental block against dental care), but i have NO new cavities, only a tiny bit of gum recession, and LESS gum inflammation than my last visit! all i need is a basic cleaning, to have a couple existing fillings touched up, and to be fitted for a night guard. the hygienist said she was "surprised and impressed" that my mouth was so healthy, which the dentist herself attributed to "very good home care." 😌😏
#ctxt#normal to want & possible to achieve. if you're me#E has been bugging me to go to the dentist for like 2 years so now i can finally be like#SEE I WENT AND MY MOUTH IS BASICALLY FINE ARE U PROUD OF ME U SHOULD BE PROUD#(she is)#my dad has No Teeth now after a lifetime of horrifying dental problems & it was one of those things where#like growing up watching both of my parents smoke cigarettes & have chronic shitty coughs & try/fail to quit repeatedly#something formative in my Self clicked firmly into the “no thanks! i will take every possible measure to avoid that fate!”#when it comes to taking care of my teeth. the professional care is extremely long overdue but i brush & floss meticulously#and it's paid off in a big way it seems!!! could've been so much worse. i was bracing for them to discover all sorts of new decay & gum shi#and from here on out i will schedule my next cleaning before leaving the office after my upcoming cleaning so i don't lapse#i truly hate going to the dentist so much so this is gonna have to be one of those 'set & forget' things if i'm gonna build good habits

people always hate on brutalist architecture, and it's like, what do you mean when you look at those huge futuristic looking buildings with exposed structure and concrete, you don't feel the same feeling as when you are looking up at the night sky, or a mountain, or a huge animal. are you not getting existential. are you going to tell me next you also don't get emotional when you stand in front of a Rothko
#maybe im just hypersensitive but the raw look of materials on a building can be so beautiful#if i think about how some of them have this imagined utopian future vibe im going to cry#have you ever stood in front of a painting of a certain red shade that made you tear up#also sidenote i think the problem most of the time is that these brutalist buildings are not being taken care of#they are dirty and falling apart#its like if modern office buildings or malls or skyscrapers werent regularly cleaned they would be ugly too

I've started listening to an Anthony Bourdain audiobook at work and it's making me yearn for the kitchen
#Don't get me wrong I like my new job and from a practical standpoint it's definitely better than restaurant work#Like the pay and hours and more stable and it comes with benefits like medical/dental insurance and free college tuition#But I miss finishing a night shift and then getting high and going to Waffle House with the other closers at 4am#My new job is fine but there's nobody to talk to because the other janitors are off cleaning other buildings#and the people working in the building I clean are polite enough to say hello and make small talk but I harbor no illusions#that these college professors want to talk to a janitor and even if they did I'm only in their offices for like 30 seconds tops#Meanwhile working completely in sync in such close proximity with half a dozen other 20-something townies forges lifelong friendships

cool so my ent just made my ear bleed. im never going back to see her again.
#purrs#i go in every 3 weeks to get my ears cleaned out bc i have chronic issues including w*x build up and she was SO fucking aggressive. i saw#her for all of TWO FUCKING MINUTES and she didn’t even bother to look before she started trying to clean and she was really rough with the#instrument and really hurt my one bad ear taking out the w*x and i was asking her questions about flying and she was completely dismissing#me and shutting me down and telling me to put mineral oil drops or debrox in my ear when SHE is the one who told me earlier not to put any#liquid in my ears. and i was in her chair for all of two minutes and when she left i realized MY FUCKING EAR WAS BLEEDING because she was so#aggressive with the tool she abraded the skin and didn’t even care to check if my ear was clear or bleeding or whatever after she left. im#so fucking angry and in pain. what the FUCK. you are my ent. you KNOW i have chronic issues in that ear specifically. can you not be slow a#and gentle when you see me. can you not give me more than five minutes of your time when i only see you every THREE MONTHS. i just am so#angry and distraught. fuck her and fuck that entire office. it’s so unpleasant being there i am fucking done.#ask to tag#like can you not be delicate. SHOULD you not be delicate. im so fucking mad!!!!!!!!!!#* every 3 months i mean. that’s how often i go in#ear infection tag

Song of the Day: April 23
"Lion's Den" by Jhameel
#song of the day#there's unfortunate interpersonal politics in the on-campus office! how exciting! I don't want them!#I spent the day constantly being asked to prove that I was working and not doing anything suspect on my computer#and since tumblr is quite a suspect thing I could not do it at all#worked on the idiot project. decided I was going to turn into a hermit crab and live in my orange soda can. ate bread. reconsidered.#came home and found a cat on our porch! a lovely tortoiseshell#nobody we've ever seen around the neighborhood before. very polite moderately friendly moderately clean. probably an outdoor pet?#if it were more feasible I'd have brought her inside but alas#she ate an enormous amount of kibbles and indicated great contempt for my bowl of water and eventually melted into the bushes#I'll check for her again tomorrow#tomorrow morning I'm going to have a meeting with someone who will both validate my disdain for the idiot project /and/ help with it#it's going to be so good for me#anyway this song is amazing. one of the few I reliably play loudly#excellent chorus. builds on itself wonderfully#'I don't wanna lose myself / I don't even know how to not be my own enemy#I don't wanna lose my health / I don't even know where to run from my own memories'

Agoraphobia sucks btw I used to have social anxiety and that was a lot less harrowing than being scared of the grocery store during busy hours.
#PEOPLE are fine I like small talk with random people#it's about being confined or something like that#this is why I really liked the jobs where 1) I cleaned a private clinic by myself at 9pm#2) I cleaned offices in a building where like a third of it was in active use so I got to wander around lots of empty hallways#I love to have. multiple exits

Microsoft buying Actiblizz, declaring they’ve surpassed 3 TRILLION DOLLARS in market value as a company, and then laying off 1900 devs and other little-guy positions is making me want to commit unspeakable acts
#and guess what lol - despite Overwatch 2 somehow apparently bringing in $225 MILLION this year - they laid off OW devs :’)#and apparently they were people who were ‘vital to the creative aspect of the Overwatch universe’#man can’t believe I dared to actually hope shit might get better with Bobby Dickhead out of office#MS doesn’t give a shit about creativity or creating or building on a huge & interesting established world#god it’s so heartbreaking to watch something you love be torn to pieces and picked clean for every last dollar in it#I’d almost rather they just exploded all at once like Telltale or Luminous

continued from here for @songandflame
For a moment, Clara is left befuddled-- obviously she did not intend for this person to pay her-- but it fades quickly. Gotham is filled to the brim with people slow to trust, and nearly every street corner has someone trying to leech something out of you. It's a fair assumption. Clara simply strives to be better.
She shrugs and lets her expression change into something more jovial, amused. "I don't need any money. If you feel bad about taking the room as-is, you can help me with some of my chores, but honestly, it's fine. It's not like I'm giving you a great place to stay. But like, at least there's a bed and food?"
It's the sort of place that Clara herself never minds much, even as filthy and rundown as it is, because the city is so much her home. Most others are less enthusiastic, but sometimes they're desperate, and Clara doesn't mind sharing the space.
#it is probably like a section of an abandoned office building or smth and she's made over some of the cubicles with beds and stuff#nothing actually appealing abt it but she'd keep it pretty clean in that section and it's definitely safe and warm#ALSO HI IM SO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG#songandflame#ic.#v; let me adore you.
