gave myself a new squeaky stuffie today that's in the shape of a swedish fish, and comes with a crinkly plush "wrapper" to put the fish in. and it's the best thing to stim with. I'm so dog coded btw (it's a dog toy)

So I just thought about something and now I’m kinda sad.

When I was 7 my mom got remarried and we were getting ready to move into a new house. I was getting ready to go to my dad’s for the weekend and I left my favorite blanket - it was a big Care Bears blanket with…I want to say Good Luck Bear on it? at my mom’s - but was like “it’s okay they’ll pack it up for me”.

Sunday night, my dad goes to drop me off and takes me to a different house. My new house. That they moved into over the weekend and no one told me. Not only did I never get to like, say goodbye to my childhood home, but now all of a sudden I gotta sleep in this unfamiliar place with no warning or preparation?

That might have been the source of my insomnia but anyway

So I go in and get ready for bed and I can’t find my blanket ANYWHERE. Turned out my stepdad threw it out because it “wasn’t with my other things,”. And I hated him from the jump so I was like “yeah that seems like something you would do”. But my mom, my mother not only bought me this blanket but she knew it meant the WORLD to me. And she didn’t even check and make sure it moved with us.

(My family and I moved 4 times in 5 years and EVERY time I made sure the favorite stuffies, blankets and comfort toys are present and accounted for.)

I was devastated. I still am. No matter how much healing I do I will never be over that.

But anyway I was watching this TikTok about being an adult and buying things you never got to have as a kid, and I just realized the DUMB amount of money I’ve spent on blankets 🤣🤣🤣 Small, big, fluffy, light, weighted.

THEMED?! Bitch I have at minimum 2-4 for every holiday.

My kids have 2 main blankets and 5 backups EACH.

There’s 4 blankets on my couch right now and that’s because the other 4 are in the washing machine.

Linen closets? No, blanket closets that just happen to have towels and sheets in them too.

When we get new bedding I save all our old comforters and my kids use them for nests and forts, or when they want to lie down on the hardwood with our dog in the winter. I’m using one as a blanket right now and we’ve had it for well over a decade. When they get too worn I’ll cut them up and use them as dusting rags.

I have no problem decluttering and getting rid of things but the one thing I will never toss is a blanket. And now I have something to talk about at my next therapy session.
