—WARNING : suspect may be armed and dangerous! RENAN CHADDA, code named SAGITTA, is a PASSENGER on an unidentified firefly-class ship, traveling through the ‘Verse under the radar. They are known for being affectionate, perceptive, focused, well-educated, and ambidextrous, but beneath the surface, they have proven to be stubborn, bossy, manipulative, deceptive, and spoiled. Although their origin lies somewhere on their home planet SIHNON, they have been caught by stardust and lost to the great expanse.
YOU ARE YOUR OWN EXPLOSION, BRING US YOUR VERY BEST VIOLENCE.
Granted there’s a lot of a good humour and a friendly attitude in him, as well as certain undiscriminating generousness. He likes to exercise the better parts of his personality, being affectionate and friendly as much as good manners and social norms allow. Underneath this friendly disposition is a stubborn streak, and a certain mercilessness he harbours like a dagger in his sleeve. And he can be unexpectedly cruel if someone oversteps the unspoken boundaries.
He is a child of luxury, and that combined with a neat streak has made it hard for Ren to adjust to life in more remote corners of the Verse. He has a hard time adjusting to more simple and less glamorous type of life, but it is counterweight by his self-awareness and self-deprecating sense of humour. He is aware it is rather his shortcoming and not the reality around him.
His illness had made him a careful person, avoiding physical contact and any type of brawl. He walks carefully stays on the sidelines when needed. He had learned to shoot and has a pistol, however, in the heat of the battle, it is hard to say if he will be an asset or hindrance. So Ren is more than happy to rather hire a merc than try to be valiant and end up dead. He has no delusions as to his fighting abilities (or the lack thereof). His sharp mind is more of a weapon to him, than the actual guns. He is perceptive, he has excellent memory and the ability to present himself as a non-threatening person. So he is more prone to talk his way out of troubles than start any sort of confrontation.
THERE IS NO NEWS, THERE IS ONLY THE TRUTH OF THE SIGNAL.
Ren was a sickly child, borne too early, but he had a formidable sharp mind and many talents - musically and artistically gifted, he was a true descendant of a prominent and rich Sihnonian Chadda family, famous for its musicians and painters. Along with all the blessings a curse came as well - very soon after his birth, it transpired that a genetic sickness running in his family resurfaced - known as brittle bones disease. While the illness was incurable his parents aimed for the best medical expertise money could buy. It was decided that while it was impossible to stop the illness, inserting into his system nanobots that will keep his bones whole would certainly make the illness more manageable.
He was given the best education money could buy on Sihnon, which meant – the best of the best. He especially excelled in musical and artistic subjects and the piano was his instrument of choice, following the long family tradition brought by his family from the earth that was.
Due to his illness, he spent most of his days cooped up in his family’s manor, mostly alone, as his parents rarely spend more than a week at home. On the upside, he had ample time to pursue his interests and… to dream. His loneliness and secluded lifestyle amplified his need for a more colourful and full life. In his childish dreams, Ren liked to imagine was able to go with his parents, cruise to all the planets and beyond. See the terrible beauty of Verse for himself - a childish dream indeed.
While the first two years of war raged he was in his teens, and already a known pianist, he was performing in the opera halls of Londinium and his home planet, as removed from the wrath of war as it was possible, among lights sparkling in crystal chandeliers and politicians scheming over the buffet during intermissions. These days his parents seem to be more keen to take their son with them on their neverending pilgrimage between Sihnon, Londinium and Persephone, but the young boy already grew into the loneliness. And being onboard those luxurious civilian vessels, it had none of the taste of adventure he secretly longed for. It was more of the same he knew from home, albeit in space.
It was three years into the war when the civilian vessel, which his mother and father boarded on Persephone – “Celeste” – was kidnapped by Browncoats. None of the civilians survived in the end, among them were many prominent names from Londinium and Sihnon. The matter was highly publicized by Alliance to support their cause, and the kidnapping and subsequent deaths heralded as an act of utter terror and an example of barbaric and bloodthirsty forces of the separatists.
Yet, among all the accusation and chaos many questions remained unanswered. There were gaping holes in the narration of the “Celeste” last cruise and Ren was determined to uncover the truth, along with other victims’ families, some of the prominent ones. Using the money and connections, political and military alike, the families had acquired every piece of information they could about the ship, its course and its ultimate faith. The crucial piece of information on the last voyage of “Celeste” to their astonishment revealed that while Browncoats indeed took over the ship, it was not them that decimated its crew and passengers - but beings called Reavers. The name he considered a mere myth, a fairytale, suddenly became a real possibility. Before any of them could do anything with the information, however, suddenly the Alliance struck back. There were arrests. Deaths. Breakings in. The atmosphere around the more outspoken families of victims had changed imperceptibly and Renan was among those who took the hint and disappeared from the sight of Alliance officials. It was perhaps a time for his childhood dream to come true, he could travel and see the Verse. It felt like he really had no choice.
