not sure where i'm going with this but i am Thinking about how nearly every loustat kiss we see in s1 was initiated by louis: he lunges for lestat after lily falls asleep, he pulls lestat in to kiss him in the church, he shoves lestat against antoinette's mantlepiece to make out with him/stab him/hatefuck him, he's the first one to lean in for their kiss at the ball. even in the second sex scene in ep 6 when he's fully dissociating he's the one who pulls lestat up to kiss him. the only exceptions i can think of are lestat kissing him in the "of course :)))" scene and their kiss in the coffin in ep 7 when they both lean in at the same time.
idk if that was the norm in their relationship or if louis in his retelling is choosing to focus on those kisses because they were brief moments when he felt like he had control in the relationship or. ough ough okay i'm feeling sick now because. in almost all of those scenes where louis initiates the kiss, lestat has in some way manipulated or coerced louis into whatever scenario they're in. seducing louis by getting him in a private room when he's drunk with a person he knows louis trusts. cornering louis in the church when he's drunk (again) and grieving and lestat has been battering at the walls of his mind for days. manipulating louis's emotions by sending him the song recorded with antoinette's voice. and while i wouldn't characterize the ball as coercive in the same way, it's still a scenario that lestat has quite literally orchestrated down to what louis is wearing. something something seizing whatever facsimile of control you can to make the blatant power imbalance feel more bearable. is this anything?
