What do you mean by cursed content? The thought all of SuperM's content was great. You didn't like it?

Ah, how I'm using "cursed" with SuperM doesn't mean that a) their content or music is bad or b) I didn't like it. I find some of it unintentionally hilarious and weird (or fully intentionally, I can't quite figure that out). It's sort of like hair metal, or as my friend pointed out, the weird and wild genre of Eurobeat. Like, I've been to a Van Halen show. I can fuck with that energy, but it doesn't mean I can take it completely seriously. SuperM has this energy, and the transmutation of that energy results in cursed content at times (all the time? idk).

This is truly one of the most cursed things I've ever witnessed.

And so is this. But I thought that was why we liked it? We're all complicit here.

Yet, I might be one of the few people who unironically and genuinely loves this.

I don't know. We all have different frames of reference. SuperM's hair metal, cock-rockish bravado coupled with almost-camp masc concepts are outlandish and wild to me, but I'm not saying they're bad or that the content they've made (As We Wish, MTopia etc) is not entertaining; it absolutely is. I think their reality content that focuses on personality trumps the hair metal vibes and creates more interest, which is an age-old social media strategy at this point but also SM borrowing something from Hybe, which makes a change.

I think SM working a little more on the personality side is okay as long as they still have a strong focus on music and artistry. Part of the reason this works for SuperM is that these artists were gathered up from successful groups and indeed had already proven themselves as top talent. They aren't coming to us presenting personality first, or personality in lieu of other things. And, one reason I like watching SuperM reality and variety stuff is the dynamic between the members (the personalities!) because it's a different group dynamic than usual. You've got Kai and Taemin trying to be good hyungs and pretending they're not BFFs because this is "work" (lol), and then you've got Baek and Kai who never pretend not to be sick of each other. Throw in Taemin making googly eyes at Lucas because he looks like Minho (lol), Mark and Taeyong enjoying their baby status (TaeBaek... am I right?! top SuperM ship), and Ten being a wild card at all times, and it's a delightful recipe for hijinks.
