Well certainly she was concerned at first—who wouldn’t be when Ody’s part of a small handful of men who didn’t return from war and the first thing she hears about what happened is “your majesty, please don’t kill me, but your husband is a fish”, but once the comic finishes and she actually gets Odysseus back…

She has very few complaints, is all I’m sayin.

I drew some fan art of your Odysseus as part of a warmup today, and I thought it was hilarious so I’m gonna leave it here and then skitter back into the bushes.

Because they’ve been coming up recently (and because I apparently completely fricken forget to post her design earlier) here’s the designs for Telemachus and Penelope!

This has no line art so I could get this out quickly but here they are!

Penelope’s design is very heavily inspired by Hera from Disney’s Hercules, because I had a massive crush on her and thought she was one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen as a kid. I thought it would be fitting that Ody would see her beauty as something that could rival the queen of the gods. If you look closely she’s wearing the owl pendant that Ody was wearing on page one, it’s the same pendant. Athena gave it to Odysseus to mark him as her warrior but he had Eurylochus bring it to her.

Telemachus is based around basically every animatic I’ve seen him in. He has Odysseus’s hair but Penelope’s wispy curls. He has a tan because he spends a lot of time outside, in the past it was to watch out for the ships returning from the war but after they returned with no king he stays out because he can’t bring himself to be in the palace. He feels bad about it but he just can’t. His clothes are fairly simple. He wears a necklace because he thinks it makes him look like his mom. His clothes have a pattern on it that looks like fish scales because I think I’m funny.

Of course Odysseus is going to reunite with his son, but that’s not going to happen for a while. So for now it will be ifpeople ask for it or I feel like drawing them. Speaking of which: Baby Telemachus be upon ye!

Here’s Odysseus’s current ref sheet for Odyssefish

I wanted Ody to look simultaneously softer and more square than Poseidon which I think I achieved well. This Odysseus is fairly young because the comic takes place primarily after Ruthlessness but I still wanted him to look roughed up. He has a couple visible scars but most of them are from Troy, for example there’s a small scar that transferred over just a bit below his fin that’s from an arrow.

His clothes are fairly sentimental, consisting of a cape made for him by Penelope and a set of matching headbands that he used to wear with Polites and Eurylochus around his wrist (polites) and lower tail (eurylochus).

The only other particularly notable part of his design is one that won’t be seen much; his human ears. Before the transformation he has some pointy ears thanks to the little bit of Hermes blood he’s got nocking around in there, as a result his ear fins are more blocky than other characters we’ll meet later.

Here’s Poseidon’s current ref sheet for Odyssefish

I wanted to give him a somewhat asymmetrical design with his clothes and a somewhat sarcastic look so he wears mostly drapery. His lower body looks like it’s made of water as a homage to his son Triton and the other creatures in his domain that have the whole half-human-half-something thing going on but he’s got legs I promise.

I envision him as being very fluid with his appearance, wearing more jewelry or taking on more fish like qualities when he sees fit. I also think he would change his size depending on the situation but defaulting to his large “godly size” when he’s in his home, which is why I added the little odyssey for scale.

I have to go to work so please excuse how messy this is. I wanted to add Pen and that one guy who got turned into a shrimp but I ran out of time so were going to collectively ignore that weird empty space.

Anyways, literally anybody who wanders too close to Amphi is liable to be added to her collection of adopted kids. (it became a habit thanks to Poseidon’s long list of lovers)
