Audition: 9/10
(1999 dir. Miike, original title romanized as Odishon).
Weaving gender power dynamics into a drama-turned-thriller-turned-horror makes it extra spicy and hard to watch (in a good way). Assembling a thematic meaning beyond "well that was fucked up" is left as an exercise for the reader.

horror reccs
Adding the Maika Monroe final girl quadrilogy (I haven't seen the rest) to my horror/thiller rec list
It Follows (sexually transmitted haunting), Tau (the first ten minutes are bait, it's about reckoning with a smart but stunted robot), Watcher (trust your instincts), Significant Other (there is a disability fantasy in here that's *chef's kiss*)
----------------
The Benson and Moorhead series: Spring (a love story), The Endless (two brothers revisit the cult/commune they left), After Midnight (a guy grieves his relationship and there’s a monster) and Synchronic (Anthony Mackie does time travel).
The Garland set: 28 days later, Sunshine, Ex machina, Annihilation
The Peele set: Get out, Us, Candyman, Nope, The Twilight Zone, Wendell & Wild
Horror/thrillers with women: Jennifer’s body (high school), The Babadook (a widow has a monster problem), Odishon (japanese man holds an audition for his next wife), Hard Candy (a teenager takes a man hostage in his house), Panic Room (Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart trapped in a room), Stoker (an awakening), Perpetrator (a girl turns 18 and taps into supernatural hyperempathy), Thelma (woman with latent powers) The Craft, M3gan, Alien, Terminator.
TV: Castle Rock, the Sandman, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, Monsterland, Millennium (I love this so much).
I have not added the category for horror that was good but i couldn't watch that again because it'll leave you with existential nausea. Mostly writing this to remember for later and to add stuff to.

#31PelículasDeHorror #Halloween2023 #Audition √

The Benson and Moorhead series where the horror is sort of secondary to the stories: Spring (a love story), The Endless (two brothers revisit the cult/commune they left - they disagree on their experiences as kids), After Midnight (a guy grieves his relationship and there's a monster) and Synchronic (Anthony Mackie does time travel).
The Spectrevision series (Elijah Wood's production company): A girl walks home at night (Iranian vampire western), Mandy (Nic cage, drugs and gore) Daniel isn't real (a college guy's childhood imaginary friend reappears)
The Garland set: 28 days later, Sunshine, Ex machina, Annihilation
The Peele set: Get out, Us, Candyman, Nope, The Twilight Zone, Wendell & Wild
Horror/thrillers with women: Jennifer's body (high school), The Babadook (a widow has a monster problem), Odishon (japanese man holds an audition for his next wife), Hard Candy (a teenager takes a man hostage in his house), Panic Room (Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart trapped in a room), Stoker (an awakening), Perpetrator (a girl turns 18 and taps into supernatural hyperempathy), It follows, Thelma (woman with latent powers)
Just fun: The Craft, M3gan, Alien, Terminator, Glorious, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities
There are some excellent TV shows based on horror like Castle Rock or the Sandman.
Tumblr pls I'm on my hands and knees begging, I NEED horror/thriller movie recommendations. I love psychological horror and supernatural horror, but I'll take literally anything.
