linguistic discovery of the night:

from playing y0 i learned that real estate in japanese is 不動産 lit. "non moving products"/"non moving property" etc.

now i am watching someone play y0 in spanish for bonus dual studying/pseudo-immersion and the translator is using "inmobiliario" for real estate which, as you can tell, looks just like "immobile," which is the same thing as non-moving

conclusion: ?

#mine #this is just like when i found out about me pregunto and かな. what else do my non native languages have in store for me...#also in the playthrough im watching the guy just got to chapter 2 and met tachibana (<3) and it reminded me of something else i noticed tha #i thought was cool...i remember in the english version they did do a good job of making oda have a more informal tone #and tachibana sound more professional but also with even a cursory basic level of japanese #you can suss out the differences between how they talk to kiryu and even to each other #oda always calls him kiryu kun (makes sense comma kiryu IS a rookie after all) but tachibana no matter what #always calls him kiryu san. and he's always using desu masu and watashi etc etc #i dont remember what verbs oda was using but i think he used ore a lot of the time too...#whats interesting also is that i think characters talking really formally like tachi does can sound kind of cold and distant #but i never got that feeling from him i always sensed that it was more of a respect thing. just based on his personality #and how hes portrayed in the game. so that's very good writing and acting that i noticed it despite not being very #good at the language yet lol
