Cleopatra Dovecote
Clemensia's paternal grandmother, who was infamous in high society for the multiple spouses she outlived.
Belonged to one of the many minor houses within the old-guard. Her house words: Cor aut mors - heart or death
Main (modern) reason people wonder if the Dovecote family is involved in crime is due to the unfortunate accidents her spouses had. Cleopatra also gained much money from each of her marriages which all went to Endymion upon her death.
Total spouses: 5
Hector Dovecote - met in university. Knew each other for 10 years and was married for 7 of those years until his untimely death in District 11. Despite her subsequent marriages, she kept her first spouse’s surname, Dovecote, as her own. Both out of love and political reasons.
Autolycus - married a few years after Hector’s death. A political marriage to ensure Endymion’s place as head of his house would not be usurped by (very) distant cousins. Killed after their first Christmas together when she found him embezzling the Dovecote fortune.
Berenice - Treated Endymion as if her own in the 4 years she knew Cleopatra, married for just over one year when she died in a freak car accident. Her death was suspected to have been on the orders of Helle who Cleopatra married afterwards.
Helle - married about six months (the appropriate mourning period) after Berenice’s death. The marriage didn’t last long due to the woman’s untimely death during their honeymoon in District 4. Drowned while at a beach. Killed off by Cleopatra in revenge.
Makaria - a whirlwind romance that happened when Endymion was about 17. Married for almost 6 years, died from natural causes. She was fairly healthy, just went to bed one day and didn’t wake up. No foul play, but Capitol gossip likes to speculate otherwise.
Other facts:
Had a few lovers after Makaria's death, but her main focus was on her son + later, her granddaughter.
Looked really good for her age - hard to suspect what age she was. A trait she passes on to Endymion and Clemensia (and appears in the far, far future).
Lived to see her son married and meet her granddaughter.
Rumoured to have kept Hector’s calcified heart in a drawer. (Magnus may or may not have been weirdly jealous/suspicious of that fact.)
Truth: She didn’t have Hector’s calcified heart hidden away, she just wore his wedding ring on a chain around her neck for every day until she died.
Died during the war - her building was one of the casualties.
Buried beside Hector.

Things the Dovecotes have done that make people think they have crime/shady connections
(AKA high society has too much free time on their hands)
~~~~
Endymion calling people 'Uncle' and 'Aunt' despite not being related to them. It's got to be mob connections - Nero Price, at age 14 last Saturday.
Reality #1: It's more of a politeness thing, to his parents (mainly Cleopatra's) friends/associates. Clemmie does this as well, calling Felix's parents and Nia's mother 'Uncle/Aunt'.
Reality #2: Some of those adults are actually family through Cleopatra, but they look nothing alike as she was adopted.
*
At some gathering, the adults were showing off. Endymion being, "Ohh I'm not a very good shot." when pressured to join. Despite saying that, his aim was near perfect. Also said, "I'm a lot better with moving targets."
Reality #1: When he says moving targets, he doesn't mean actual people, he meant literal moving target boards.
Reality #2: Clemmie had a similar experience with her peers when she was older. Unlike her father, she isn't a great shot. However, despite her average skill, her aim lands right on the crotch of the human shaped target, making people think it's a threat.
*
To this day, Max is unsure if he witnessed some sort of shady transaction between Hector and this random guy in a street alleyway. He's like 90% sure it was crime related and 100% unsure how much of a joke it was when Hector told him to not tell anyone what he saw.
Reality: Sometimes you're trying to buy the perfect gift for your then-girlfriend. It's not your fault they decided this street alley was the best place to conduct business. And your best friend who's decided to tag along is terrible at keeping secrets, so you have to swear him to secrecy.
*
Bonus:
The Dovecotes tend to know someone for practically anything. You want ___? Oh I've got someone for that. (Hector, Endymion and Clemensia at some point to their friends)
Endymion and Clemmie inherited Cleopatra's resting face, which allegedly makes them look like they could kill someone if you cross them. Whether they would actually kill someone though, is another story. The answer is yes if push comes to shove.
an AU where the polycule (Max/Hector/Cleopatra) exists and Hector later survives that one trip to 11
I'm not saying Hector has a type. But, he definitely attracts a type - tall, dark, murderous...
PRE-trip
Nobody really knows how it started, but definitely before Hector/Cleopatra married. Is Max President at that point? Probably.
Possible scenario on the honeymoon:
Hector: How are you two still in bed? Cleopatra: Beloved, it's 9 in the morning. Why are you awake and dressed? Hector: Nine is a perfectly respectable time to be up at. Cleopatra: It's our honeymoon. Nine is a horrendous time to be up. Tell him. Max, half asleep: Come back to bed. It's a Presidential order...
Hector's wedding ring has a twisting sort of design so it looks like it's made of two interlocking strands of gold bands.
Polygamy being outlawed in the Capitol. But they're fine, since only Hector & Cleopatra are married. Their thing is a bit of an open secret though.
Hard to hide when they practically live on the estate with him.
Hector still travels to the Districts.
Who's Endymion's father? Probably Hector given physical similarities. They're not doing a blood test or anything, they really don't care. Endymion is getting named heir to House Dovecote regardless.
The Ravinstills on the other hand... they really do care. Like who's inheriting after Max - Endymion? Or is Max's younger brother (+ children) inheriting as the next head of house? Answer the question, MAX!!
POST-trip
PLEASE just stay in the Capitol, Hector. You almost died! - Max Beloved, please? - Cleopatra 🥺🥺 - Endymion, age 3, being bribed to convince his dad to stay Hint: Endymion was the deciding vote.
Hector does wind up staying in the Capitol a lot more often. Though he still does his trips. Whenever he returns though, both Max and Cleopatra are very clingy. Max more than Cleopatra.
Endymion's emergency contact after Hector + Cleopatra, Max.
Parent-teacher night - spin of the wheel who's showing up. Hector is the teachers' preferred choice.
The 2 hoping to influence Endymion's piano music preferences: Liszt (Max), Rachmaninoff (Cleo). Meanwhile Hector is like... it's okay, I don't mind if you don't like either composer, dear. However, Hector did do a whole, "Hah! In your face!" to them when decades later, Clemmie preferred Chopin's music.
Different thoughts about Aelia when they first meet her.
"I like her, she's a sweet girl." (Cleopatra) "She's nice, I suppose, but I do wish her family was–" (Max) Hector smacking the back of Max's head. "Shush."
I feel like Max's policies are a little less harsh if he's got Hector around so often. Not sure if the games would exist after the Dark Days for the same reason.
Because Hector & Cleopatra are moving out IF he signs the games into existence. (Yes, they're kicking Max out of the polycule.) Which would leave Endymion & Clemensia in an awkward position as the (grand)child of divorce.
The other Ravinstills continue to spiral over whether Endymion is a Ravinstill lovechild or not. It's becoming a problem for them. Sometimes Max thinks Cleopatra messes with them. (She is) Hector too, but he does it on accident.
Hector dotes on Endymion the most of the 3. He's the same with Clemmie. It's a miracle that neither Dovecote turned out spoiled rotten.
Unfortunately, I don't think Clemensia is becoming close friends with Coriolanus in this timeline. Gloriam is getting dragged in that household. Mostly because of Max.
With Felix, he's probably like, "This is Clemmie. My cousin. I think." Good friends with one another.
