from the vault, originally a mishmash of songs that macie never planned on releasing, is her most recent album. released on june 8, 2023, only a few days after big time rush's another life album, it is macie's first foray back into the music industry. each song is pulled from a different era of macie's life, and fans continue to speculate on when certain songs were written based on musicality and lyric styles. singles from this album are, it's time to go ft big time rush, box in the ocean, how to be a woman, and happiest girl around.

late bloomer was a surprise drop. it is also currently macie's final album.

released on februrary 2nd 2019, the anniversary of macie releasing her debut album aristotle, the album was a farewell to macie's life in the music industry, as the young woman has decided to take a step back.

in an interview with rolling stone, macie said, "this album is the final message i wanted to put out into the world. to let people know that i was done. but that i was okay. the industry didn't win this time. i got out before they could crush my spirit."

while the album carries a melancholic theme throughout, it's clear that macie has a lot of joy and passion about her music, and it's impact on her fans. songs like say it to my face (for griffin), ballad of a homeschooled girl quickly became trends on musical.ly, and macie can be seen interacting with fans in the comments of videos.

she also released a message that can be read below:

fans can continue to follow macie on all of her social media accounts under the username, @/maciemace. she said in her rolling stone interview, "while i'm going to be focusing on college and my personal life, music will always be a part of that, so there will still be songs of the month, playlists being made, and i will still be singing. music is in my blood, it's not leaving that easily."

with a tracklist of 23 songs, not only is this macie's longest album yet, it's clearly her most heartfelt. a great send off to an artist that people will talk about for decades to come.

At just 20-years-old, Macie formerly known by her legal name, Macie Smittens-Garcia, is the new “pop punk princess” on the scene.

Born in Savannah Georgia, but raised in Wilmington Island, the Georgian native has always been a musician - since she was a baby.

“My first words were me asking my older sister Maeve to put on Bills Bills Bills by Destiny’s Child.” Macie said, laughing as she remembered.

“Only I couldn’t pronounce my B’s yet, so it sounded like I was saying Dills Dills Dills.”

Music has always been a big part of Macie’s life, from her roots in beauty pageants to getting signed by Rocque Records at age 13. Since then, she’s released 5 albums, with another on the way.

“Twinkle Lights, is truly an album about self discovery. About knowing who I am. I mean it’s the first album I sing in Spanish on. Which was a big deal for me. I’m proud to be Boricua. It’s part of my heritage. The same way, being Scottish and German are.”

“Culture is important to me. I’m a punk girl, yes, but before that I am Afro-Latina. And that’s a big deal in this genre.” Macie explained, before elaborating.

“Pierce The Veil were some of the only Latinos in the rock genre that I knew of initially. And so, I’m very conscious that I am playing a similar part for young Latina girls.”

“For the longest time, I was scared to be my authentic self in this industry.” Macie said, as she elaborated. “And that put me into a lot of uncomfortable, unsafe situations. Twinkle Lights, is me getting to be authentic, and talk about some of my struggles, and why I am the way I am.”

Macie talked candidly about the sexual assault attempt that she mentions in the title track of the album.

Twinkle Lights, the title track opens with the lyrics of, At 14 years old I finally had to say No, and at 14 years old I finally had to let go. Prior to this song, and the album as a whole, Macie had never spoken about this incident.

“I didn’t have the words at the time to explain what had happened to me. And I struggled with that for a really long time, because I had the words to explain my mom’s behaviour.” she said, referring to her mother Amber Smittens, who is publically known for being Macie’s abuser from age 3 to age 7.

“I knew what CPTSD or childhood post traumatic stress disorder was. I didn’t know what this was.”

“But I didn’t have those words for the situation I went through at 14, or what I went through as a 19-year-old.”

“But with this album, I get to. And that’s a big accomplishment. In, Innocent Party, track two, I have a lyric that goes, The road to recovery was a long one, in case you wanna know, which was honestly mostly a line I came up with after seeing stuff people were saying online about me.”

“I was in such a bad place mentally, and knowing people were saying such shit about me made me so mad. They kept referring to me as an innocent party, as if they pitied me, and well... I got a song out of it at least!” Macie explained, a laugh forming.

The Puerto Rican-American girl continued on to talk about how fame messed with her self perception.

“It’s hard when everyone has an idea of who you are. Just because they listened to your music, or because they follow you on ScuttleButter. Which I have a very calculated version of myself out there for a reason. So when I’m able to be just Macie, it can be quite jarring.”

The interview which was done in Reseda, at Macie's first LA apartment, showed a different side to the singer than fans have seen. A softer, more vulnerable side. A side, that anyone who listens to Twinkle Lights, which is scheduled to come out on Macie's birthday in a few days, will see.

hehehe yes!! okay so her first concert is in big time concert, and she’s btr’s opening act, so her set is 15 minutes long. i can’t fully decide which of these two i like better but it’s either one of them :)

twinkle lights, is macie's 6th album, and her final album with rocque records. released on december 8th, 2016, her 20th birthday, the album is a pop punk/rock classic. in the album, macie talks explicitly about her struggles in the industry, including an attempted sexual assault that had occurred when she was 14, as well as continuing to talk about her complicated relationship with her mother. the album is also the first time that macie sings in spanish - something that she was incredibly nervous about. in an interview with spill your guts magazine, macie spoke about the importance of culture to her. “culture is important to me. i’m a punk girl, yes, but before that i am afro-latina. and that’s a big deal in this genre.” and it's no secret that macie is making waves for latina girls in pop punk, as well as other women of colour. her headlining twinkle lights tour will feature special guests meet me at the altar and the mason quads, formerly known as wild embers. "this album is really just about my love for pop punk. the genre. the people. and how it saved me during one of the darkest years of my life. i'm always going to be grateful for that." macie said in her instagram post announcing the album.

it’s my period and i’ll cry if i want to:

a/n: i am on my period and suffering so unfortunately poor macie has to as well. i got my first one at age 10, so a few years before she got hers, and my experience with it was nowhere near as heartwarming lol. but hey, they say the best way to deal with your trauma is to push it onto the fictional blorbos in your head! or something like that.

trigger warning: menstruation. that’s the biggest one. this drabble explicitly talks about it, and macie being scared of the blood, and cramps. there’s also some unintentional sexism from macie about your period making you a woman. she’s repeating stuff she’s read before, it’s not really what she actually believes. if any of this is too much for you to read at the moment, feel free to skip this drabble!

Macie stared down at her bedsheets with wide eyes. There was blood. She knew what this meant, that she had gotten her period, but still.

She had woken up and now there was blood on her sheets, and as she shifted around slightly in her bed, she realized there was blood also in her shorts and oh God, she was dying.

She wasn’t actually, not really but damn did it sure feel like it. Her stomach churned and she felt herself getting lightheaded.

“Macie?” Her older sister Miranda called. Macie looked at the doorframe, grateful that the door was closed. How the hell was she going to explain this to her sisters?

“You okay? Breakfast is ready.”

“Okay.” She called back, her eyes shut so she didn’t have to look at the blood anymore. “I’ll be down in a minute.” Her voice wavered as she spoke, and she cursed herself internally.

Her sister’s footsteps paused. She could hear the door handle opening as Miranda turned it. Even with her eyes shut, she could her sister’s eyes on her.

“Kiddo?”

“There’s blood.” Macie said. She could hear the babyish tears in her voice. She couldn’t be crying. She was a woman now. Right? That’s what all the books said.

“Mace.” Miranda walked into her room, and Macie opened her eyes, looking up at her big sister. “Here.” She grabbed Macie’s pink Bratz doll towel off the ground, handing it to her.

“Wrap yourself up in this, go take a shower. I can wash the sheets. It’s not a problem.”

Macie looked at her sister, and God, now the tears were really coming full force. Miranda leaned over, her hands gently cupping Macie’s face. “I’m sorry we didn’t prepare you for this better. But it’s going to be okay. I promise.”

Macie nodded, wiping her face with the back of her hand. “Okay. Thank you.” She moved to get out of bed, wincing at how much it hurt. Miranda quickly moved to help her, her hands gently rubbing her sore back as she helped Macie off her bed. Macie felt that lightheaded feeling again as her feet reached solid ground.

“You good to walk to the bathroom by yourself or do you want help?” Miranda asked, and Macie felt her cheeks heating up as she nodded. “I got you. C’mon kid.”

Her sister led her out of her room. Macie squeezed her eyes shut as another cramp hit, and she realized, holding onto Miranda’s hand, it didn’t hurt as much. It still sucked, but she didn’t feel as terrified.

And that, was what she wanted the most. To not feel fear. To feel fearless.

macie's best friend depends on which btr universe i'm using her in, but her best friend for most of her storyline is katie! their song is seamless which would have been an unreleased song from aristotle.

macie's sisters are EVERYTHING to her. they're her safe space. her song for them is a soft place to land from waitress

8 - someone who has changed their life

hahahaha do you want a negative one or a positive one? for positive, take on the world is def a song she thinks abt the btr boys to. for negative, she writes many songs abt gustavo and griffin but her most scathing one is it's time to go. "he's got my past frozen behind glass, but i've got me" is a line that her fandom will NEVER forget.

Do they believe in ghosts? Have they ever experienced anything unexplained?

yes. her family is puerto rican catholic and they are incredibly superstitious. she's seen stuff around her abuela's house that makes her believe that ghosts exist. like shadows in places where shadows shouldn't be.

Do they have any unusual collections or items in their home?

she collects rocks! she gets rocks from every state and country that she's ever been to.

What’s their favorite dessert or candy?

florecitas! they are these cookies that are iced.

OLIVE:

Do they like corn mazes, hay rides, or apple picking, or any other autumn activities?

yes! she doesn't really get corn mazes, since she's a southwestern girl at heart, but but everything else she totally vibes with.

What’s their favorite way to keep warm (coats, a fireplace, a hug, etc.)?

coats!!! she lives in her sage green bomber jacket, as well as her fancy the north face jacket that logan got her for her first christmas trip to minnesota back in 2015. she LIVES in those jackets. she also enjoys a good cuddle by the fireplace with logan as well.

Have they ever played a spooky game, like Bloody Mary or used a Ouija board?

yes. her and wren played bloody mary when she was younger all the time. it never worked tho.

If they had to become a supernatural creature (a werewolf, a vampire, etc.), what would they pick?

definitely a werewolf. if we go based on the bthalloween episode, she's trying to help kendall keep the secret from jo.

Have they ever dressed up for Halloween? What’s their favorite costume?

nope. brazil is a catholic country, and her avó (grandma) would rather drop dead than do anything associated with monsters lol. once she's in america tho, her halloween costumes are pretty great. her fave one that she's done so far with james is the joker and harley quin.

What makes them nostalgic?

the smell of corn, and when the air gets a slight chill!

What do they think about pranks?

oh she's a pranking queen i fear. give elisa the chance and she's putting whoopee cushions everywhere, covering the palm woods in silly string.

Would they ever visit an allegedly haunted building?

GOD NO. she's a, too catholic in nature for that, and b, too much of a wimp LMAOOOO

running to your heart

a/n: first time writing a macie drabble since fifth grade. hopefully her voice is still there and reads lol. i’ve always had many thoughts about her dynamic w the different btr boys, and in particular kendall being a sort of pseudo brother to her. this fic sort of shows that. one of the things i hc they bond over is their love for the keyboard and guitar respectively, and they have jam sessions when they can! this is set during big time decision

“So this new song, who’s it about?” Macie asked, and Kendall sighed.

“I don’t know.”

The brunette girl raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean you don’t know?” She stared at the older boy. “I wrote part of it about Lucy. But…”

“But?”

“Some of it feels like it’s about Jo.”

Macie rolled her eyes. “This again?”

Kendall frowned, stopping the slow strum on his guitar that he had been doing for the last half hour. “You asked.”

“I did. I just didn’t realize that you were still being the same idiot you always were.” Macie replied, lifting her fingers off the keyboard she had been playing at. “Look Kindle,” she said, using the nickname she knew he disliked to get his attention, “You can’t keep leading either girl on. Make a choice buddy, before you lose the chance to.”

“But how do I do that?” He asked, placing his guitar on the couch.

“You be honest. You tell them both how you feel, and you decide which girl you like more. If she can’t handle being rejected, that’s her problem not yours.”

Kendall sat there in silence before his eyes met Macie’s. He smiled at the 14 year old. “Thanks Mace. You’re pretty good at the whole relationship thing huh?”

She laughed, her curls flipping off her shoulder and onto her back. “Only when it comes to other people’s.”
