another wonderful piece by @felrija of shera, this time featuring a very tired, very downtrodden aemond. the emotion portrayed is gorgeous and heartbreaking.

AHHHH I LOVE IT 😭😭

Abby is the friend Shera needs during such a tumultuous time as her recovery after Driftmark— she would keep the letters and reread them as much as she could, so much to a point where the ink began to fade in certain places.

She would be tentative in a reply at first, considering how Aemond’s cold shoulder in his letters affected her greatly. She was afraid of more rejection, so put in light work of her return letters but would find that Abby returned them in kind, ten fold.

Shera at Harrenhal for the wedding, getting up to antics and being a part of a group of friendly faces would be so good for her!!

Shera in the Maidenverse is definitely better off than in the Banshee’s Lamentverse 😭😭

I'm sorry it took so long to get here, babe! But thanks for being patient with meeeee!

So IIRC, Shiera comes down to KL as a kid to be companion of Helaena as well, so Abby is definitely very warm and welcoming ('you have red hair like mine!' kid connection instead of a 'oh no is someone replacing me' because the Horrors of Growing Up haven't set in yet). Abby is a sunny and outgoing child, so Shiera would have immedietly felt welcome, but she's incredibly protective of Helaena because sometimes Helaena doesn't understand things or we need to use gentle voices that she would teach Shiera.

So much of childhood friendship, I think, is quite simple. They're too young to fully grasp what's happening around them and they're all playing in their own world, but just as things fracture with the adults, they fracture with them too. Driftmark is a nightmare, and Shiera is injured and sent home to the north and then Abby's father and brother are dead in such quick succession that I think there's a solid year of just no communication. Shiera's recovering. Abby's suicidal/ depressed but once she comes out of it, Abby does start writing her letters, asking how she is, saying she misses her, keeping her updated on what's to come. I could see it both ways if Shiera does or doesn't respond. Even if she didn't, Abby would still write, I think more for herself than anything.

They don't see each other in person until House Stark comes down to Harrenhal for Abby and Aegon's wedding and Abby's going Through It again at that time, but she would be incredibly happy to see Shiera and hug her so tightly and want to know how she's doing. With Wylla as Abby's Keeper of Keys/Chief Lady Companion, I think she would very much like Shiera to stay with them as well because she's been so isolated up north, in this verse, Wylla and Shiera are cousins, and Abby wants friendly faces around.

girlhood companions - shera stark & helaena targaryen.

Her love for baths started because of Helaena, she supposed. When Shera arrived in King's Landing all those years ago for the first time, she was a grimy and dirty child, wild to the bone, and detested baths. The maids didn't know what to do with her, until they bathed Helaena and Shera together. They weren't far apart in age at the time, Helaena being the polar opposite of Shera— but somehow she reeled her into normalcy. The princess would bring her wooden toys into the bath, much to the chagrin of her mother, and play with Shera, blow bubbles and tell stories. It was odd to everyone around them, as the two seemingly switched personalities when they bathed together. Helaena, usually a quiet child, would tell grandiose stories, while Shera would sit quietly, giving her complete and rapt attention to the princess. The girls bathed together until they were both eight and ten years of age respectively, but even then, they would be in the room with one another while they did— reading books out loud, gossiping, or just sitting in silence, enjoying one another's presence. - banshee's lament, chapter three.

Rhaenyra had instructed Shera’s handmaidens to dress her in a more Valyrian-style wardrobe to ‘help her adjust’. She felt like an impostor wearing the garments, usually tailored in red, black and gold, coupled with intricately braided hairstyles, fashioned to her head with a dragon pin. A small veil was afforded to her after much pleading, one that only concealed her eyes and left her nose and mouth barren. Her choker was replaced by looping golden chains, imbued with rubies.  - banshee's lament, chapter 13.

shera dressed in a more valyrian style while upon dragonstone, likely looking wistfully at the bay.

details. i did some actual embroidery as well for her dress and i'm dead.

blue - shera & aemond.

“May I see?”  Shera shook her head vehemently. “You can’t.” “Please.” She made a noise of disagreement, pressing her face further to her shoulder. She didn’t, however, account for the visibility of the scar on her throat, jagged and raised against the soft flesh of her neck. She felt one of Aemond’s fingers trace it, across slowly, then upward. His hand went to her chin and he turned her face towards him. And she let him. She didn’t have much energy to stop him, anyhow.  His touch was soft, which surprised her greatly– she thought him unhewn and rough in all places– but this was something reminiscent of how he used to touch her as children. He was always gentle with her before. Her face was turned to him completely now, unveiled, unhidden– she braced herself for the look of humor or pity on his face, her heart stopped beating for a moment, her breaths caught in her chest. Brushing an errant hair aside, he traced the scar over her eye. It wasn’t an entirely clean cut, like he had guessed, jutting out into two diverging lines, like branches of a tree going downward. His violet eye, the hue hardly visible from how large his pupil was, was trained on her blind one. The milky blue, her own pupil long gone. The edges of his lips curled into something akin to wonder. There wasn’t a look of pity and it didn’t seem like he was about to make another poor jest about her face– he just looked, as if to study it, to commit it to memory. “Blue?” he murmured. “How curious.”

shera suffers from non-epileptic seizures caused by trauma from the driftmark incident, as well as vertigo and chronic pain.

shera loves to collect things, kind of like a crow does. pretty stones from the creek, bones she's found, dead bugs (in her fondness for helaena) and just general creepy things. modern shera would most certainly have an expansive roadkill taxidermy collection.

in an alternate universe, helaena and shera end up together. in a modern au, they have an on-and-off again situationship.

her favorite food is honey walnut cakes. her favorite savory meal is roasted venison with barley and braised chard.

she doesn't like heights or being on boats. she prefers being grounded with open air.

she sews most of her own clothing but would never be able to replicate her pieces.
