9. How did they feel about being promoted to Spectre?

She recognized it as the honor that it was, but she was also eager to be let off the chain, so to speak. She'd had many missions where following protocol meant pirates or other bad guys got away, and she hated when it happened. Now, she could do things her way, and God help anyone who got in it.

18. Three rumors about Shepard

1. Shepard tore apart an entire unit of batarians with her bare hands when her family died on Mindoir. The Truth: Rowena killed six batarians, five with her newly unlocked biotics, the last by blowing his head off with a stolen pistol. She then dragged her family's bodies inside, barricaded, and laid as low as possible until the Alliance came and got her. 2. Shepard and Alenko were totally fucking, and that's why she saved him on Virmire over Williams. The Truth: Kaidan reminded Rowena of her siblings, specifically her sister Aerynn (who was an L2 who had attended Brain Camp) and her brother Rhys (a sweet techie). She never had any romantic feelings for him, and made that clear from the start, which he accepted. 3. Shepard condones open murder in the middle of the street. The Truth: Rowena supports the turian she loves getting revenge on the man who got their whole team killed. She knows he'd do the same for her if they found the batarian in charge of the Rape of Mindoir.

36. What sort of thrills do they purposely seek out?

Speed and Heights! Anyone who rode with her in the Mako would be shocked to hear that as a kid, she was terrified of heights, cause she was flinging that All-Terrain Tank around as if the "All" included flying.

Rowena Shepard was definitely attracted to Garrus in ME1. A fascination with turians she came by honestly (her older sister had a similar one), but as she got to know Garrus, she loved his wit, his sense of humor, and his stories of cases from C-Sec. By the time of Ilos, she was definitely harboring a crush, even if she wouldn’t admit it to herself quite yet. 

After Lazarus, she admitted what she felt when TIM told her Garrus had been AWOL for almost two years and it felt like her heart was sinking in her chest. To say she was glad to see him as Archangel would be an understatement, and if anyone had asked Joker, he’d say the fact she stood outside the medbay for a couple hours before being dragged off to shower and rest while he was in surgery was out of character, not something she had ever done on the original Normandy for anyone. When the opportunity came to “test his reach and her flexibility”, she did her best to seem cool and confident, then immediately took to the extranet to try and find tips on how to actually make it work and not blow up in her face. Thankfully for her, it didn’t, and she and he enjoyed a wonderful first night before the Omega 4 relay. 

After the Reapers invade, Garrus is her biggest rock, keeping her steady. Her best friend, the turian she loved, he held her together when all she wanted to do was break. The hardest thing was when she turned him back at the Beacon, but she would rather he live than die. She’d wait for him at the bar, and her last thoughts as she destroyed the Reapers was wondering what kind of drink she should order while she waited...

... And then she woke up, weeks later, in a hospital bed. Garrus was with her. 

Question for Shakarian shippers out there. I’m sure this has been discussed before, but indulge me again.

Was Shepard interested in Garrus/ Garrus interested in Shepard in ME1 or did their feelings only turn into something more than friendship in ME2?

I will be answering all of these for Rowena Shepard. Colonist, Sole Survivor, Renegade/Renegon. Most of these answers are for her solo universe, but some will be for her AU Operation Pentecost, where Rowena and my brother's Rhys Shepard get thrown from the ending of ME3 to two years before ME1, and into a timeline where they both survived Mindoir. Those answers will be prefaced with (OP)

Now, onto the questions!

33. What skills do they have that are a surprise to the people around them?

Rowena Shepard is very good with kids. A very surprising trait, considering Rowena generally gives off an "angry at everything and everyone" vibe. But plop a child under age 10 in front of her, and she's sweet and calm and making the kid laugh, maybe roughhousing or playing with her biotics with them if they're in position to do so. She always has a smile on her face afterwards. When asked, she'll eventually admit she originally wanted to be a elementary school teacher, or maybe a live-in nanny, before the Rape of Mindoir changed that.

37. Got any bad habits?

To avoid bad memories, Rowena uses pain. Nothing seriously dangerous, but she'll squeeze her fists or grab her arms until her nails dig in and leave indents, to send the memories back into whatever box they came out of. She's grateful for long sleeves as the memories pile up in ME3.

Alison technically doesn't really drive, since Bee is her Autobot partner, but when she does get a non-sentient car, it's probably a dark red Tesla.

Rea drives a white Ford F150 (cause that is like, the only truck I know).

Jen doesn't get a car till after the her story ends, but it's probably a Dodge Neon or Ford Focus, a small commuter car.

Rowena Shepard is licensed to drive skycars, but doesn't own any herself, since she's usually not somewhere she can have one.

Allison and Rowena Shepard meet up, what happens?

Well, how this goes down would change depending on situation. 

If Alison and Rowena just met up in a nebulous, OCs-Live-Here space, they’d probably just hang out a bit, talking about their respective storylines and how they deal with the whims of the author. They’d part ways as friends, though they might not directly seek out the other’s company again.

If Alison somehow ended up in the Mass Effect universe, she would figure out some way to get onto the Normandy crew and help Rowena save the day. Alison would be quite effective at doing this, since she actually plays the Mass Effect games in AllSpark, so she knows the twists and turns of the plot. In the Operation Pentecost verse, she’d be one of, if not the first, to be let in on the secret behind the plan, and is one of the biggest assets to moving it along.

If Rowena ended up in AllSpark, it’s a major culture shock for her. Alison would take charge in calming her down and helping her get over both the time travel and the “I’m in a fictional universe” freak outs. Rowena would be fascinated by the cybertronians, and maybe half-muse if it’d be possible to bring some back with her to help even out the fight. Upon learning of her own games, Rowena would likely insist on playing them, or at least watching someone play them, so she knows what to do when she gets back, and can see what would have happened if she’d chosen a different path.

Your Shepard and the Shepard of a friend meet up at a bar. What do they do witch each other

Hmm, well, the only Shepard I officially have Rowena Shepard interact with is my brother’s Rhys Shepard. Rhys is Rowena’s younger brother by 3 years, the only other of their family on Mindoir who survived the attack, and in their shared universe was the Hero of Elysium, as it was his plan that let him and Rowena hold the breach.

If the two of them met up in a bar pre-games, they’d probably talk about recent missions, rag on each other as siblings do, and generally have fun. During the games, Rhys joins Rowena on the Normandy, and their conversations would mostly be the same, but with the addition of Rhys teasing Rowena about Garrus and her teasing him about Tali (their respective LIs).

For N7 Day, I was gonna post Rowena Shepard’s Shadow Broker Dossier as it would appear in her fic, but since it’s not finished, I’ll just post the first part of it, the report for Mindoir. 

REPORT: Batarian Slave Raid of Mindoir, 2170

The attack on Mindoir is one of the worst we’ve seen yet. A full casualty list has only just been compiled, and the numbers are staggering. Anyone not found dead is assumed to be captured, far beyond the reach of the Alliance. If - and that’s a big if - we find any of the victims, it likely won’t be for years.

It’s been previously reported that Gunnery Sergeant Bernadette Shepard had requested a team search the north side of the colony for her family’s homestead. Sgt Shepard’s husband, Technical Sergeant Stephen Shepard, had brought their five children to Mindor after his retirement in 2160 to become the primary caregiver of their twin sons Matthew and Andrew, both being on the high end of the autism spectrum. The couple’s other three children, daughters Aerynn and Rowena and youngest son Rhys, also lived on the family’s homestead. Due to the threat of the batarians, this request was denied until two days after the occupation ended.

Upon arrival at the homestead, the advance scouts were initially met with sniper fire, until the shooter recognized the Alliance troops and called for them to come into the house. Inside, the team found Rowena and Rhys alive, as well as the wrapped bodies of Stephen, Matthew and Andrew. Aerynn was nowhere to be seen, and Rhys and Rowena’s testimonies that she’d gone into town the morning of the attack lead us to believe that she is one of the missing dead or was taken captive.

Stephen Shepard’s body showed he’d suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his head and chest before he died. Matthew had a single gunshot wound to the front of the head, the angle suggesting he was shot by either a short batarian, or one laying or kneeling on the ground. Andrew had two gunshot wounds to the back of the head, as well as three to his upper back, indicating he tried to run from the batarians. These injuries were confirmed by Rowena, who witnessed the shooting before blacking out. Rhys provided the details for the next events.

Rowena had recently been exposed to a container of element zero and was awakening biotic abilities. The trauma of the attack triggered them to activate, and she attacked the batarians, killing all six who had initially come to the homestead. In doing so, she suffered a fractured jaw from a bullet that grazed her chin, as well as burned hands from an overheated pistol and several other cuts and bruises. Rhys managed to bring her and the family’s bodies inside and took charge of the situation, barricading the doors and windows of the first floor and turning the second story into a sniper’s nest, from which he shot any batarians who approached with Stephen’s hunting rifle. An examination of the bartarians he took down showed seventy-five percent headshot accuracy, an impressive feat for a thirteen year old using an off-hand rifle (Stephen Shepard was left-handed while the rest of the family were right). With Rowena barely able to even eat due to her injuries, it was Rhys who defended the homestead for the next three days, after which the batarians did not return. (It is likely they decided the homestead was not worth the trouble of losing over a dozen men to it.)

After reuniting with her children, Bernadette Shepard has been given bereavement leave. Our men helped her, Rowena, and Rhys pack their essentials and returned them to our main camp. Tomorrow, the family is to be escorted to Demeter to stay with Bernadette’s sister, Christine Krum.
