saw someone else make a moodboard/collage for their Tarnished so I wanted to make one for mine
my astrologer tarnished, Revyss, remembering nothing of her previous life before being resurrected, who abandoned sorcery to embrace the Black Knife Assassins in her quest to survive the Lands Between, and Grayson, who remembers his love from before their resurrection, and will do anything to find her
this was not a happy story

Poor Revyss
She was an Astrologer, a sorceress that studied the stars. She loved seeking knowledge and she loved who she was, stars and magic were a part of her very being.
And as she traversed the Lands Between, against her will mind you, more and more she found she was losing herself with each death, compelled by fate to become Elden Lord, something she didn't even want.
She was still herself, kind and loyal, but she was slowly losing her memories and she didn't even know or realize. And as she became more powerful, she began to embrace whatever helped her on her journey, whether magics she had previously rejected, or the way of the Black Knife Assassins.
She wasn't the best assassin, she was too impatient and was not OF them, but she took on their deadly attacks and ways of silence.
And as Grayson tracked her all across the Lands Between, how horrified he must have been to see such depths she had to embrace to survive. He, who rejected the Golden Order as a Confessor, who could not, would not, kill his only love, remembered her and their previous life before being summoned by grace. He kept going, running after her trail, discarding his own teachings, becoming something else. Not for fate or power, but for love. Always too far behind but his heart breaking for her and the trials she endured.

It's interesting to think about my two Elden Ring ocs
Both Tarnished and pulled to the Lands Between the Fog, however both viewed their destiny differently

Revyss was a kind person who always helped others, an astrologer who studied stars and magics, dragged and compelled to go on this quest to become Elden Lord, something she did not want. No matter how much she cried and screamed, she was compelled by a geas to do this until she succeeded. She had to become braver, fiercer, and lose a part of herself to break the cycle and complete her destiny.
Derran, on the other hand, was already brave and fierce from the start. He was a warrior through and through. He did not know fear or fatigue, he held the flame of ambition within his fist. If he must complete this quest then he would do it as quickly as possible, striking down all who got in his way.

However, as he started assisting others too small and weak in the Lands Between, he learned kindness, patience, empathy, and friendship. It was through Boc and Rya that the reason for becoming Elden Lord changed. He wanted to use his strength and ambition to become someone who protected those who would be trampled and forgotten by others.
I just think they're neat

Revyss had been riding aimlessly as she rode from the gatefront ruins she had cleared. It had been a lot of sneaking around and stealthily killing guards one by one, but it got the job done, and now she not only had a map but a few treasures as well. She sighed as she rode, the quest was never ending, grueling, painful, and a godsawful living nightmare. No matter how much she cried, no matter how much she screamed as she fought waves of enemies and monsters, something in her very being compelled her to be on this journey. She had tried not following the light of grace, and sometimes whole weeks could go by as she roamed the countryside, expanding her map and journal, but in the end she could never leave the journey and she could never go home.
The longer she stayed in the Lands Between, the more her previous life seemed like a fading dream. She could not recall her mother or family, or even what land she hailed from. It was like waking from some deep, dreamless sleep, however nor did she feel like she was truly awake. She herself felt like she was dreaming through it all, despite the fact that she felt very real fear, pain, and even the cruel bite of death when it came for her. Death always came for her, and yet however, she never truly died. With each painful last gasp of bloody breath, she later awoke whole and hale at the last point of grace. Sometimes she felt she was being punished for something she never did, and the cruel unfairness of it all made her curl into a pitiful ball sometimes and cry her heart out. And even in that regard, she was probably more blessed than other Tarnished who had given up their frail mortal hearts in their lust for power.

there's not a lot of given story in Elden Ring, in order to find it you have to really pay attention and search for it
you CAN just fuck around in the game killing everything and just follow the breadcrumbs to the end without really paying attention or caring
so with that being said, your oc is TRULY a blank slate avatar. And some people are fine with that, and can build up a backstory and oc around the class origins (ie: rogue/bandit or hero or confessor or whatever)
but for me i usually need a lot more lore and backstory to an oc, so as an Astrologer in the Lands Between, it's just been "hey what's over there" "zap zap" and ride my cow horse into the sunset
my oc is Revyss, she started out as night folk but you're really not given any backstory on what this means so I changed her to human
but as i'm progressing through the game it makes you think about why the fuck you're doing this, what are your end game goals (if you have any)
and i thought about if my oc was really nice, trying to do the right thing and helping people, but the Lands Between is not forgiving, and now is the time of myths and monsters. So there's a lot of tragedy in that. But also, the world feels dying.
there's still life and beauty, but it's all bittersweet as you watch the dying leaves fall in some errant breeze while a mournful tune plays over the scenery. there's horror and death, beauty and mystery, and life seems to be hanging on by its fingernails
the land seems empty, and the few animals out there just emphasize the lack of life - there's no birdsong, there's no happiness. there's just what is, and what is not.
and I feel like my oc is being dragged by fate against her will, she's too kind for any of this. If she's doing any of the things I do as I traverse the land, she's screaming, crying, cursing, throwing up as she fights unimaginable horrors.
what's driving her? she's brave despite being so afraid, but what compels her to keep risking her life over and over again.
the very small kindnesses in the Lands Between are very few, and kindness here means death for those not strong enough to endure the violence and brutality of the land.
i kind of picture her like a reverse Journey game, where in Journey you are compelled by your nature and something greater to achieve transcendence, understanding, and joy.
but in Elden Ring, she's compelled against her will and better nature to complete this journey, to seek something she doesn't even want. Some unknown force urging her to continue. And maybe she tells herself it's to break the cycle of deathless violence, to achieve something greater, something kinder, but at the end of the day, against her tears and wishes, she has to continue on this horrific brutal journey, watching as allies kill each other for promises of power and lordship.
like how awful, you want NONE of this, but no matter how much you cry yourself to sleep, no matter how much you want to leave, something inside you compels you to do this quest
