OwO you have to tell me more about Ma'isuri

ah yes, ma'isuri is one of my other Bastard ocs

in-universe, m'niara calls her "mai" (pronounced "my") but i don't call her that to avoid mixing her up with maelienwe, who's called "mae"

i kept shipping her with methredhel on and off, but it ended up being one-sided on methredhel's part because of how wary ma'isuri is of romance (and because ma'isuri dies anyway)

i don't have a lot for her in terms of music, but i do associate her with this song (one last dance by silverstein). it used to represent her "relationship" with methredhel, but not anymore.

during the main quest, i like to think about ma'isuri teasing m'niara about her crush on martin. she's basically the Annoying Little Sister of the khajiiti ardelas

the divines do Not like her since she's unapologetically a kleptomaniac and loves being part of the thieves guild. i like to think that she inherited that from tsameiji.

speaking of tsameiji, they're pretty similar characters, but i think that the biggest difference between them is that tsameiji can brag about being a fighter and own up to her claims while ma'isuri is pretty much all talk (unless it's about thieving)

part of why she agreed to become the divine crusader was for the thrill of it, of course. but it was also because she knew that m'niara was Tired after the mess that was the end of oblivion's main quest.

ma'isuri and her brother j'zhari are the only ones who knew that m'niara's daughter/their niece ayrana was also martin's. well, at least until marvani found out some 200 years later.

Tsameiji- It's the thrill of adventure and seeing new places that motivates her to do what she does. She has never felt comfortable being tied down to one spot. Saving the world is a huge plus, though, and her hero status is something that strokes her ego.

Ma'isuri- While she was never cut out for being a hero, she wanted to become the Divine Crusader so that M'niara didn't have to. On the surface, she just says she wants to know what the fame feels like. In reality, she knows that M'niara has been through a lot since Martin's death and wouldn't want to be put under the pressure of saving the world again. Sadly, her death after defeating Umaril the Unfeathered only served to propel M'niara into further madness, which was exactly what she didn't want.

Jackson- Even with his rather sarcastic and moody personality, he has a lot of empathy for others (for a Daedra, at least). While he never wanted to become involved in Meridia's plans, everything he does to aid her during the Planemeld and Summerset is for those who can't fight for themselves, not for her.

Maxine- She was pretty much dragged into the hero business when all she wanted to do was see Darien again. Still, she went along with saving Elsweyr simply because it felt like the right thing to do. Since no one seemed to be able to contact the Vestige, she had to step up in his absence.

Fjolhar- Solitude is his home, dammit. He's not going to let a bunch of vampires or witches destroy it for some sort of plan.

I’m curious now, what keeps your characters doing the hero thing?

Faith? A sense of duty? Resigned to their fate?

Think long and hard and tell me what it is that motivates them to do what they don’t need to.

in-universe reason: m'niara and ma'isuri don't know how last names work since they're khajiit, so they just took venaryne's last name after she became their "stepsister" without realizing that the actual dunmeri ardelas (venaryne included) are redoran nobles

actual reason: i fucked up and accidentally gave m'niara "ardela" as a last name but it stuck

m'niara's name is supposed to be kinda jokey bc it's pronounce meh-NYA-rah (key word: NYA) while ma'isuri's name is an altered spelling of "misery"

which is also kinda funny bc m'niara's the serious twin and ma'isuri is the carefree twin

edit: then again ma'isuri being "misery" could also make sense bc she causes m'niara a lot of grief, like when she accidentally gets her arrested because they both look alike and when she actually dies, causing m'niara's descent into madness

Age during Oblivion: 24-29

Born in Black Heights, Elsweyr

Distant relative of Tsameiji (the Vestige) and Ariyura (the Last Dragonborn), younger and identical twin sister of M'niara (the Hero of Kvatch), younger sister of J'zhari, younger stepsister of Venaryne (the Nerevarine)

Unlike her sister, she doesn't know how to fight with physical weapons. Instead, she heavily relies on illusion magic, and everything she knows comes from her mother.

She's a kleptomaniac and a bit on the impulsive side.

She tends to favor her own pleasure over most things, which usually results in her being inconsiderate of others.

6 months prior to the beginning of Oblivion, she and her siblings (as well as her brother's wife) migrated fron Elsweyr to Cyrodiil. Unlike her merchant brother and her alchemist/huntress sister, Ma'isuri liked earning money the (stereotypical) Khajiit way: stealing and fencing.

She uses illusion magic to give herself brown hair and green eyes as a way of distinguishing herself from M'niara.

When her illusion magic wore off in the middle of a burglary, she recklessly fled the scene. While Ma'isuri was able to escape without a scratch, M'niara ended up being blamed and imprisoned for the crime instead, which is what eventually led M'niara into becoming the Hero of Kvatch.

As M'niara did Oblivion's main quest, Ma'isuri made her way up the Thieves Guild. Eventually, she becomes the Gray Fox.

At first, she had a rivalry with Methredhel (a fellow Thieves Guild member), but they eventually became friends.

Shortly before KotN, Ma'isuri passes on her title as the Gray Fox to Methredhel. (Note: KotN and Shivering Isles take place 5 years after the end of the main quest in this story).

Ma'isuri ends up being the Divine Crusader, but instead of actually using the relics, she still uses her illusion magic to "fight." M'niara also joins the Knights of the Nine, but only to help her sister.

Ma'isuri's dependency on illusion comes back to bite her when she actually fights Umaril the Unfeathered, where her magic stops working in the spiritual plane. While she does manage to defeat him, he also fatally wounds her spirit, resulting in her death.
