Girlsies "special" time o' the month, HC's

(Sorry it’s so long, I might make a one-shot with it later on. Feel free to drop OC’s or suggestions by to add!)

- This time it had crept up on you. Normally cramps were a dead give-away but they had become quite frequent because of hunger and mouldy bread, so it was hard to tell.

- Fair to say, when you woke up the next morning you had slept in. They kept you all night and now the lodge was empty and it was half-noon.

- After blinking away the spots, you noticed red stains by the post of your bunk.

- You groaned (externally, now that nobody was here), remembering snickers and laughter from the boys in the early hours that you had managed to wake up.

- Still quite salty, you curled up and stayed in your nook for the rest of the day – scoffing at the wasted day and dimes you could have had tucked in your belt.

- Now that you thought of it, you realised you should’ve known it was coming because a few days ago you snapped pretty badly at Race for poking fun at you. Normally you could shoot it right back, but this time it ended in unprovoked tears. He felt awful.

- So dusk finally comes around and Davey prances in with the rest of the boys, ready to play cards until the candles flicker out.

- Seeing Davey, you’re reminded of Sarah and Katherine mentioning some kind of “girls” night tonight. They had offered for you to come over, but politely declined since you needed an early morning the next day.

- That went out the window, didn’t it?

- So, whilst everybody was distracted downstairs, you bundled your things and high-tailed it to Sarah’s place.

- Managing to climb up the scaffolding beside her house, you pulled yourself to the window.

- When you tap on the window, both the girls eyes widen before they laugh noticing you hunched over in the moonlight.

- Slightly embarrassed and teary-eyed, they both sober up pretty quickly. Katherine is the first to notice the stains down your leg.

- The fuss begins. Sarah is first to dash out of the room, grabbing ‘daddies medicine’ and popping a few as you start to feel winded from the climb up.

- Katherine takes you to get washed up, giving your privacy after spending a good few minutes smothering you with plush, clean towels.

- They dig out some ‘necessities’ to hide in your pockets and take back to the lodge, before taking you to sit by the fire as you talk and talk over bowls of peaches and cream that night.

- It wasn’t a surprise that you stayed over that night, either.

- When the next day rolled around, you waddled back to the lodge to find the boys bundling out for the day. Instead of at school, you spot Davey with your sheets folded in his arms as he’s making his way outside.

- All he says is “Sarah told me what was going on.”

- You decide to stay in bed one more day, curled up and warm.

- Davey then tells Jack, as he had asked.

- It then takes Katherine to explain it to Jack before his eyes go wide and he apologises whole-heartedly.

- Without a word, Jack tries to earn a little bit more that day to get you some meds of your own.

- Word spreads quietly and Crutchie brings you a handful of flowers from your selling spot to help make you feel at home.

- Race apologises for being cocky the other day and sits with you for the evening instead of cards with the others, as he fills you in about the races that day and braids your hair. (Katherine taught him, but nobody need know)

- Les doesn’t know what’s going on but brings you chocolate he had snuck out of school anyway.

- Albert, Mush and Specs bring you spare rations from the nuns each morning. You normally wouldn’t take handouts, but they were 'gifts’ and the boys didn’t really know what else to do.

- They were pretty clueless at first. But they got better, for you anyway – and you couldn’t be any more grateful.
