Sleepless (Prologue)

(a very short thing, but it's the prologue to this whole story. enjoy, y'all :] @docterzerocare if you wanna see this thing)

There was a dead kid found in the woods, and he hadn’t been dead for more than ten minutes.

And yet no one had heard him scream.

It was September 22, 20XX, at 3:20 PM. School had been out for twenty minutes at Sleepyfern Middle School, and around fifteen minutes ago, a young boy had left the school to walk home alone. At least five minutes after that something had attacked them. And around ten minutes later, someone finally found him.

By that point, it was too late to do anything to help him.

Whatever had attacked them, it had mauled him. His body was covered in scratches and bites, his eyes had practically been clawed out, and there was blood absolutely everywhere.

They were barely recognizable.

A small crowd gathered around the spot, and the area had become a crime scene. People had gathered, horrified by the sight before them. What sort of creature would do this, completely unprompted? Why so violent? 

Why hadn’t any of them heard him scream?

Among the crowd stood another child, stood frozen in shock, disbelief, and grief. A close friend, who had, just a short while earlier, laughed with them and said goodbye. A child looks at the blood-soaked white cloth, thinly covering her friend’s dead body.

And that child’s name was…

Current info abt my ocs

So I’d kinda really like it if anyone could ask my ocs questions + I just wanna get thoughts about how they are out. Please ask if you want to!!

Uncle Stephen: very very caring and loves al his employees at Canary, has a husband named Dave who comes around sometimes.

Josh: Nervous wreck, has anxiety. He works at Canary but he also works at writing a funzine in the local newspaper every week. He hopes to get a job as a journalist though bc writing is his passion. He has two siblings named Janis and Julian. Easily flustered. Very new to working at the café, hasn’t gotten the hang of things just yet.

Stace: bisexual as fuck, everyone’s bestie. Is very talkative and tends to lead the conversation, sometimes accidentally cutting people off and etc. She means well though and cares about everyone.

Carter and Carmen: Twins, pretty much inseparable. Carter is very laid-back yet very protective over Carmen; he was born like 2 minutes early so he annoyingly calls himself the older sibling. Carmen comes off as creepy and has that Wednesday Addams vibe going on, but get to know her a bit better and she’s really sweet. Carter is a great cook and Carmen’s specialty is pastries.

Medusa: Everyone’s Mom™️, loves snakes and has two at home named Buttercup and Silky. Her pride and joy is her snake tattoo that goes up to her arm and stops just under her neck. She’s very mature but loves a good adventure from time to time, she really likes going out after midnight and doing fun things. Also into witchcraft and uses a lot of herbs to do spells and stuff. She’s a butch lesbian though she dresses in a little bit more of a feminine way.

Jane: Everyone’s go-to for advice (besides Medusa and Stace) and loves helping out. Has kind of a nick for gossiping because she knows literally everything going on in Canary and in the whole town. She will not say anything if you specifically tell her not to though; she’s very loyal.

Mort: Literally a moth or more like an anthropomorphic moth. He’s adorable and sociable, though he can’t speak. He just purrs and after a while you learn which purrs means what. Also he understands English. For some reason he makes the greatest latte ever? Though he kinda bumps into light sources sometimes which can result in spillage or maybe some dust in your drink. He’s very loveable and good.

I think you can probably tell which characters I’ve worked more on than others but yeah, if you wanna ask any of them anything pls do!

I saw your post about your OC's perfect pets. Could I ask what you consider the Jericho leaders's + Connor's ideal pets to be?

Hm, well Anon I've thought on this topic before for my fic actually (and have even employed my specific headcanon pet to give Simon something to care for and love in his downtime), so I can answer this one without a doubt!

--Markus --

Carl's two android canaries (which he names Austen and Vivaldi). While Markus would easily take care of any pets, he's actually not very interested in adding any to the household. Aus and Vi are a comfort to him tho, and he'd rather keep them around for as long as he can since they're familiar and sing very nicely after he's accidentally deviated them.

On the opposite side of things, Markus hates snakes and is incredibly nervous around them. He's not sure why.

--Simon--

An albino reticulated python. Don't get me wrong, Simon definitly strikes me as a cute and cuddly animals guy, but there's a sort of an allure that snakes have that remind me of him. I've actually given him a 20 foot python in my fic, which he later names Nikolai. It's incredibly sweet towards him and a few others but it can't seem to stand Markus.

My headcanon for Simon is that he's scared of dogs because he was chased by one early on when he ran from his owner's home.

--Josh--

It was a little harder to pick a pet for Josh because I headcanon him to be terrified of big dogs, but wanted him to have the most insanely gigantic pooch imaginable to help him get over said fear. I also saw him as a cat person, so I wanted him to have a kitten. I ended up going with both. Josh somehow gets in the good graces of a huge Tibetan Mastiff android dog that just kinda picks him as its new owner, and later he finds a tiny Japanese bobtail kitten that he nurses back to health. Their names are Booker and Curie, and honestly Josh loves it when they curl up with him when he reads (although he wishes Booker wouldn't try to drown him in fur whenever the big guy is in a lapdog mood).

--North--

North's not much of a pet person. She's trying to figure herself out and isn't in a place where she can care for living beings that are highly dependant of her. She's that friend who loves you pets and would play and cuddle with them, but never gets one of her own. That's completely fine tho, she loves walking around with Aus and Vi on her shoulder, Nikolai is absolutely enormous and powerful so she is constantly asking Simon if she can hold him, and she absolutely loves Josh's two extra fuzzy companions. She sometimes goes jogging with Booker, and Curie likes to play with her hair.

If North ever gets around to getting a pet, she might not be opposed to getting a bearded dragon or even an axolotl. She can't really decide which is better, the cool or the cute.

--Connor--

When Sumo passes away, Connor becomes pretty upset for a while so he can't bring himself to get a pet. Hank ends up asking the Jericho leaders for some help and they end up gifting Connor with one of many android dogs available for adoption at the tower. The pup will live almost as long as Connor, so its mortality won't be a consern for a long time. Connor ends up with a very intelligent Labrador Retriever named Buddy (He wasn't very creative with the name but who cares? They're both happy!).

So I’m not watching Arrow anymore or keeping taps on it unless something runs across my dashboard so I just found out about the Prometheus/Adrian Chase/ Vigilante debacle. I looked into it once again Arrow doesn’t fail to disappointment. Yet again Arrow mashes comic book characters together at random and pats it’s self on the back for doing so. Saw this quote

“What’s kind of fun about the way we’re writing Adrian, and the way we’re portraying Josh’s character, is we’re writing with the knowledge that the audience has a certain amount of comic book knowledge. If they don’t, if you’re not a comic book fan, it’ll fly over your head and it’s totally fine; it’s like an adult joke in a Pixar movie. But if you are familiar with the comic, then you’ll probably interpret certain scenes in a very specific way, and that’s fun for us. It’s purposely fucking with comic book fans ‘Ha ha I made you think you getting this comic character but I gave you mash up a Batman villain instead! I’m so clever.’  Marc said it’s fun for them to lead fans on with the idea of comic book fans “interpret certain scenes in a very specific way”  because of the character “comic book destiny as part of the storytelling”  which he is denying the character by turning the character into another completely different comic book character. That’s not creative storytelling. That’s purposely leading part of your fan base on and then pulling the rug out from under them. Knowing exactly what they going to see and playing into that but never planning on following through on it. They did this with Conner Hawke they just pulled this crap with their OC Tina calling her Dinah Drake at the last minute with the clusterf*ck situation with Black Canary. “You thought this character was this because we you they were but at the last second it’s really this other comic book character we are brunching!!!!! Are we so clever! Are you confused yet! I hope so maybe you won’t notice the plot holes as much.”

Trust Arrow to take a morally ambiguous hero and tare that hero down as much they can because the comic book fans like that character and it’s hook to get them to watch. I can hear the Robot Chicken parody/gag on M. Night Shyamalan What a The Twist ringing in my ears right now. It’s like Laurel and Helena - Any chance to do comicbook character dirty Arrow takes it. Remember the episode entitled Birds of Prey? That all ended up like a big *THBBPTHBPT* on Birds of Prey comic fans by the time the show was finish with everything they did to Laurel, Helena and trying to give & failing to give Felicity Barbara's Oracle title. I wonder when MG is going to realize no comic book fan is going want to watch his crap re-imagining/ brunching of beloved comic book characters. No one is going to take that bait anymore. I hear another comicbook character is being added to show and all I think now is ‘so how is Arrow going f*ck this one over this time?’  I’m not going to watch. I’ll just read about it online. Hope those ratings keep falling.
