Some of you may be familiar with the regency era dating sim game I developed for a uni project last year (I share some art and talk about the development process in this tag). Well, it took me some time to fix some stuff in the coding, but it’ is now available for download! You can download it for whichever price you want - including for free!

Primrose Hall - A Regency Era Dating Sim

It's the year 1814 and Miss Amaya Kitsley is set to make her debut in society. Before that, however, she must attend an informal gathering at Primrose Hall, the countryside property of Viscount Funderstone. There, she will encounter an old friend for the first time since their childhood - but also meet a certain other gentleman for the first time ever.

You’ve heard of Victorian Era!Amaya, now get ready for Regency Era!Amaya

This semester at uni, we had to each make two games that somehow related to the short film project. One of them had to be a visual novel, and - because I’ve been in a Bridgerton mood since I started reading the books in April - I decided to make a Regency Era Dating Sim! More about it under the cut.

It’s called Primrose Hall, and it takes place through three days at a country property called, you guessed it, Primrose Hall.

Miss Amaya Kitsley is the main character, and she’s the Amaya from Goodnight Kitty, but grown up and in the 1810s. Her face was actually the face of a completely different character that I was working on for a personal project, and I realised her round-but-still-defined face shape that I’d spent A While to achieve also fit perfectly for Amaya, so.

Edmond, Baron Hatherlore, is Amaya’s brother, whom I created specifically for the game. His face was kinda based on Regé-Jean Page (and his name is actually not a reference to Edmund Bridgerton, but to Edmond Dantès from The Count of Monte Cristo - my friend who co-created Amaya recently named her new puppy, Dantès, after him)

Thaddeus Gareton is the eldest son of a Viscount and one of Amaya’s love interests in the game (they meet at Primrose Hall and instantly hit off). His face was based on Alex Pettyfer, because I was reading ‘It’s In His Kiss’  when designing him and he’s a popular Gareth fancast, lol.

John, Earl Waterfield, is Amaya’s childhood friend and the other one of her love interests. He moved to India with his father after his mother’s death (she was Indian), but kept in contact with both Amaya and Edmond through letters, and now is back. Amaya is extremely nervous around him because 1. She’s afraid of doing something that would make him not want to be friends anymore, and 2. He got hot. His face was based on Avan Jogia because duh (well, actually I spent So. Long. looking through random Anglo-Indian guys online before I Remembered).

Amaya’s Evening Gown was a mix of this one and this one. Her Morning Dress is this one, with this bonnet from Emma. (2020). And her wedding dress is this one, with a headdress/veil from here and these shoes. The cat plays a significant role in the game, and is also another connection to Goodnight Kitty.

The woman in the 4th photo is Lady Evelina Halton. She wasn’t a planned character but I couldn’t leave Amaya hanging around two men alone, so I gave one of them a married sister, and she ended up being a huge part of the story. I named her after the main character of the 1778 book ‘Evelina’, by Funny Burney - the illustrated 1903 edition of the book is what inspired the game’s illustrations. Her face is based on Stephenie Meyer because that woman is so gorgeous I would’ve watched Twilight for her (no shade to KStew). Evelina’s Evening Gown is from here (and I’ve just realised I forgot the necklace goddammit). Her Morning Dress is this one, with this other bonnet from Emma. (2020) because holy fuck that movie single-handedly changed my stance on bonnets.

I actually don’t have the references I used for Thaddeus and John’s clothes anymore, oops. I got them off of random fashion plates I found online before discovering the site I’ve been linking. They were gonna have Evening outfits (honestly, everyone was gonna have multiple outfits, but Time), but the difference between men’s Morning and Evening clothes seemed to be mostly on the bottom half, which doesn’t appear in the game, so.

Next, we have Edmond (whose outfit is from here), Mr. Kinnerton (whose outfit is a mix of this one and this one), and Lord Funderstone (Lord and Lady Funderstone’s outfits are both from here - how romantic).

Mr. Kinnerton is Evelina’s brother and Thaddeus’ best friend. He’s the reason him and Amaya meet, because he almost hits her with an arrow. There’s a scene in the game in which they comment how odd it is that he’s late for dinner, and another one in which Amaya suggests arranging a match between him and her best friend Nicolette, and Evelina starts stuttering. The reason for those is that he’s gay - and he was late for dinner because he was fooling around with a dude - but I couldn’t find a way to make it explicit in the game so I’m JKR-ing it here.

Lord Funderstone is the owner of Primrose Hall, and John’s godfather. Lady Funderstone (first woman on the last photo) is John’s aunt (his father’s sister). John coming back to England is actually the reason everyone is at Primrose Hall.

The other three women on the last photo are (left to right): Lady Surthroy (dress, bonnet), Miss Meanfield (outfit), and Miss Gossholte (outfit). They appear in one scene to give us some exposition hot goss and their names reference their characters (Surthroy = Surprised, Meanfield = Mean, Gossholte = Gossip).

Almost all the surnames and titles come from this list of fake British places.
