brief summary: by all accounts and logic, holly never should have won the 73rd hunger games. having missed her chance to get her hands on any weapon but a small blade at the start of the games, and having been raised in a wealthier home of woodworkers for hire and thus not being nearly as skilled or trained in survival as many of her fellow tributes, holly was seen as a throwaway tribute by most of the games’ viewers - just a small, mousy girl from district seven, armed with nothing but her little knife and a makeshift spear she had managed to whittle from the arena’s rubble with it. but amazingly, she had managed to triumph, killing four other tributes out of desperation and survival instinct and emerging from the arena deeply traumatized and barely able to speak anymore, earning her the epithet “the wood spirit” among the capitol’s citizens. now, two years later, holly is rarely seen outside of her family’s home back in her home district, and hasn’t spoken a word to anyone since she first came home - until the quarter quell begins and holly finds herself in yet another godsforsaken arena, and finds herself saying her first words in two years to the fierce, unrelenting girl from district twelve who, along with her fellow tribute from the previous games, is on the verge of inspiring a rebellion.
