Deivi Vakaj
Tumblr media
Saying:
“Our punishment is life, whilst we beg for death. We live with what we have done, and we await the time our prayers are finally answered. Then all we have to hope for is that Marakoth doesn’t deem us too broken and forgives us for our sins.”
-
Deivi is one of the rare gishars who is very self-aware and despises what they've become. He has a lot of personal regrets over siding with Einjal during the 1940s, and he in his later years he wishes that he had never got involved, even if it was to protect his family.
Even though he's one of the Scorched, it's his own mind that causes him the most pain, and he inwardly loathes both himself and the entire gishar community.
His deepest fear is that when he eventually passes, Marakoth will deem his soul too corrupted from what he's done and will swallow him whole (as is the belief for those who cannot be cleansed).

Song:
youtube
There is an ending to my reign My sins have come to face me I can feel it That I have lived my life in vain And now I know I'll reap The seeds I've sown

For the not so nice oc asks for any oc you wish:
pain: What's the worst pain your OC has ever felt? Do they have a high pain tolerance?
Thanks for the ask!
Once Hanasha Mallora became corrupted, so did her pyrokinetic powers. Any injuries caused by her abilities infected her victim's heiros too, meaning that the burns could never truly heal because they ran so deep into the "soul".
Deivi Vakaj was one of the unlucky ones who was on the receiving end of this in his 20s, so even decades later, his burns never healed.
Over time, he's "adapted" to the pain, which gives him a higher tolerance than most. However, he doesn't have the best coping mechanisms for it, mostly relying on copious amounts of alcohol alongside his usual medication.

Happy storyteller Saturday! Which of your characters would you sit down to share a drink with and interview if you had the chance and why? Bonus points: what drink would you choose and why as well.
Thanks for the ask!
I would definitely have to go with Deivi Vakaj, mainly because he knows so much about all the others gishars and he loves to gossip. He's also one of the nicer and least judgemental characters, so I'd feel "safe" with him.
Drink choice would be Soliman wine, but I would definitely need water or something too, because I would not be able to keep up with his drinking.

i don't have anything for dear or dance sorry :(
From Blue Blood 01:
dark
“Do you want to know why I’m awake right now? It’s because every night I’ve closed my eyes in the last forty years, I've seen the faces of those that I killed. Heard their screams in the silence of the dark. Felt their phantom hands clawing at me if I get too close to the sanctuary of sleep.”
[Deivi is drunk, dramatic and depressed]
-
direct
The actual city itself was restricted, as were most of the direct outskirts. A large fence had been erected to warn people, but nobody was stupid enough to kill themselves just to see the ruins anyway.
It was strange being there though. Knowing that the Daju family had ended so close to where they were standing. That thousands had died at the hands of two corrupted rulers, both too far gone to back to down to the other.
-
different
Viter gazed up at him with hurt in his eyes, “Is it always going to be this way?”
Tafgen let out a sigh, “You know I would give anything for things to be different.”
            “I’m sorry.”
            “Why?”
Viter looked away, his eyes filling with tears, “I shouldn’t have kept pushing things. I know you tried to stay away, but I just- I just-”
Tafgen put his hand on Viter’s face, gently turning him to face him as he brushed away the tears. “You have nothing to be sorry for, Vee. We both knew this wasn’t the best idea, but I don’t regret any time that I have spent thinking of you.”

[All snippets are from BB1 (the 80s-90s era)]
Snippet 1
Rujav wasn’t looking at him, chewing at his nails with an odd expression on his face. A small cloud was beginning to form over his head, and the temperature in the room felt as though it had dropped a few degrees.
“Dad, p-please s-say something.” Viter couldn’t stop the sob escaping from his throat, and he clenched his fists, accidently crumpling the paper in his hands.
His father turned his head in his direction but still wouldn’t look him in the eyes, even as he spoke. “Don’t call me that, Viter.”
-
Snippet 2
            “We shouldn’t do this.”
Viter put his hands on Tafgen’s face. “We both want this.”
            “It’s still wrong.”
“How is it wrong for us to want what everyone else has? Do we not deserve to be happy? Just because of some stupid rules that say neither of our lives are worth anything?”
He was saying the thoughts that had echoed around Tafgen’s head ever since he was a child. All he’d ever wanted was this. Someone who loved him, just as he was.
-
Snippet 3
Being so close to each other only served to highlight their differences. Whilst Sahrav’s pinkened skin was coated in a thin glaze of sweat, Lerensa seemed unaffected by the dry heat. The only sheen on her rich brown skin came from the golden glitter that had been delicately brushed onto her shoulders. Her eyes burned like a sunset, mimicking the desert land that surrounded them. A sharp contrast to the glaciers that Sahrav’s own represented.
-
Snippet 4
“How did it feel for you? Giving up your freedom willingly?”
Tafgen shrugged. “I didn’t have much freedom beforehand. I wasn’t losing much.”
“But what about children? Love?” Mahrias rolled over to face him. “Were they easy to give up? Or did they never interest you to begin with?”
“Children, no. Love though…” He sighed, absent-mindedly stroking his scar. “Love is complicated.”
-
Snippet 5
Deivi stared into his empty cup. “Seventeen thousand, six hundred, and forty-two.”
            “I’m sorry?”
“That’s how many lives Solima lost during the war. How many people died from my family’s choice to get involved. You’re right, Imojin is alive. Perhaps she would have been even if we hadn’t gotten involved. But either way, how can we say that one gishar life is worth that many human ones? We are not gods. We shouldn’t have that kind of power.”
-
Snippet 6
That would be the ideal situation, to marry his son to the daughter of his best friend. Yet Osin had not said a word since Sahrav came of age, and it felt strange of him to ask.
Rujav knew it wasn’t for a personal reason, nor anything to do with Sahrav himself. But it still hurt his feelings. If only simply because Osin had failed to tell him the reason behind the unintentional snub.
-
Snippet 7
The damp wind clinked through the chimes that hung from the sloped roof near the door. It was only when they got closer that Mahria saw they were made from bones, too small to be human, but unnerving to him nonetheless.
As soon as he stepped inside, he knew that he shouldn’t be here. But it was too late to back out now. It was almost as dim inside, lit by a few candles that were laid sporadically around the main room. Shelves and tables bordered the area, filled with the treasures that the twins had gained over the years. Mahrias gulped as he realised that each one of these was a deal made, much like the one he had come here to make.

67% for the ask game!
67%. What's the worst injury they've ever gotten?
Ooh, this is a tough one to choose for because I injure my characters a lot lol.
I'm gonna choose Deivi Vakaj for this, since his is kinda interesting. He fought in the war against Hanasha Mallora, a sunblood queen who had the power to generate flames.
Deivi is one of the many people referred to as the Scorched, the ones who received burns from Hanasha's fire in BB0.
The thing about her power is that because it's tied to the heiros, any burn received by her flames never truly heals. Every so often it will "reignite" and feel like a fresh burn, although the frequency varies by person.
Deivi was burned on most of his right side, and only survived due to his husband Liyro's powers. He doesn't deal with his pain very well and when it's at its peak, he'll wish for the worst. But he manages to get through it with the support of Liyro, interesting gossip, and a hefty amount of expensive imported wine.

It's Blorbo Blursday! It's sleepover time! Who is:
hosting?
picking the movie?
bringing the snacks?
the biggest gossip?
who falls asleep first?
who takes over the bathroom when getting ready for bed?
who snores the loudest?
Thank you for the ask!
I really like this specific friendship group, and this sleepover has definitely happened more than once (although without the movies since they don't have them lol)
Osin would be the host, for sure. He'd make sure that everything is all set up comfy with pillows and blankets everywhere, and that everything they might need is on hand. He would definitely be getting all his hair things ready, because he loves playing with the other two's hair lol
Since Osin's hosting, Rujav would bring the snacks, and Deivi would bring the drinks.
All three of them are known gossips but Deivi the most so lol. He's been storing up all the gossip he's learned since the three of them last met so he has plenty to tell, and the other two are more than eager to listen.
Rujav would definitely be the one taking over the bathroom. He has a very specific routine that he follows every night and he gets very difficult to deal with if he misses it.
Osin would probably fall asleep first. I imagine that he would not only be the one who snores the loudest, but also talks in his sleep and says the weirdest things while Deivi and Rujav are giggling at him.

Whilst Deivi is technically the third highest Value in the last 100 years, he's the one who earned every single point of his. So in my eyes, he's the most Valuable.
The first and second place gishars "lucked out" by being the equivalent of pokemon shinies lol

More about Deivi <3
He marries Osin's brother Liyro in 1945 and they are one of the few succesful marriages.
But doesn't the law say that gishars can't have gay marriage?
Yes. And this is only happened because Liyro is trans.
Deivi (the gossip king) knew this and since he was so Valuable he could have basically anyone he wanted. He didn't plan on falling in love with Liyro, just knew that he could give him the life he wanted.
When Deivi got burned by Hanasha a few months later, they weren't sure that he was going to make it. Liyro never left his side and helped him as he recovered, where they started to develop real feelings for each other.
Once the war was over in '46, the two of them starting 'dating' and renewed their vows a few years later.

“We all pretend that our lives are perfect, show off to each other and act as though we are the epitome of success. The truth is every gishar is broken, one way or another. That is the curse that power brings. That is the curse our own blood bestows upon us.”

For the pride-themed ask game: 6 and 17 please?
Thanks for the ask!
I received 17 in another ask seconds before I received this one lol
6. How does your oc feel about labels? Theirs, or in general?
This is actually a tough one for most of the gishars. Publicly, they're all cis and straight, but obviously that's not true. Some of them wish they could be open about who they are, and some of them are. Others don't care about labels, as long as they can hide what they need to.
Osin and Visesha are good examples of those who are completely open about their sexualities. Everyone knows that they're both poly and pan, but they're so beloved that their people pretend that they don't know. Both Osin and Visesha get irritated by this, as they are proud of who they are and they don't like it being treated as a secret.
Liyro and Deivi are another couple who are open about who they are, as Liyro can't hide it since his very public transition. Deivi started being a lot more open about being pangender because of this, partly because Liyro helped him feel more comfortable in himself, and also to try and take the heat of Liyro a little bit.

I know Mahrias is technically the main character, but who is your favorite to write?
Thanks for the ask!
Hmm.. this is a tough one! There's two minor characters that I really enjoy writing - Osin Solark and Deivi Vakaj.
Both of them are featured more in the prequel, but even in their scenes in BB1 I still enjoy writing them. I think it's because they're my most honest characters and don't have any ulterior motives, they just want to have a good life for themselves and their islands.

ocs ask time, tell me about some of your ocs favorite weapons :D
Thank you for the ask!!
OOH I don't think I've ever really talked about this before.
Most people in Sonhara don't use weapons in their day-to-day life, though some may keep them for personal protection, especially in places like Jurin and Kiwo.
The humans who are best trained are those who went to one of the Academies in order to become a guard or a Nivada. Most gishars are also trained to use weapons, even though they have a naturally occuring power anyway.
Also, most gishars choose the weapons that their Nivada wields as they're the ones most likely to train them. Some will learn beforehand to boost their Value but the majority don't end up getting the qualification.
I won't list everyone's weapons/abilities because it would be far too long but here's a few:
Lavis Kontemno: Prefers using his axe, as it's not as brutal as his ice breath and helps him limit the collateral damage.
Deivi Vakaj: Has lightning manipulation which he's very good at controlling. Also uses a basic staff which doesn't sound that dangerous until you remember that he's 9ft tall and much stronger than a human lol
Einjal Daju: Is trained to use a glaive but would much rather use his teeth, or his water manipulation.
Hanasha Mallora: If she's trained in a weapon, nobody knows what is is. More likely to either punch you in the face or set you on fire with her power.
Mahrias Kontemno: Prefers using his sword since he's not very good at controlling his cryokinetic abilities, as (like his father) they're very tied to his emotions.
Tafgen Vorreh: Good at archery but likes his sword better, as he feels he looks "tougher" with it.
Viter Kontemno: Has no natural ability but learns archery from Tafgen.
Pocha Ranna: Has a spear but is more likely to use his bare hands.

4. Is your oc's environment supportive about their identity? How does this impact them?
Thanks for the ask!
It depends on the character, some have it a lot easier than others. The gishars in general don't have a good time with it.
Least supportive environment would be Lavis. His father isn't homophobic in general, but the gishars live by different rules and that means providing an heir. Especially if you're a firstborn, like Lavis.
Being forced to keep his love for Einjal secret definitely weighs heavily on him. It's one of the things that led to him overcompensating in his support for Einjal during the war, even when he knew he should pull back.
-
Most supportive though would be Deivi & Liyro, who are very open about their identities and have been well supported by both of their families.
They're considered one of the most successful gishar marriages, and it has definitely boosted the Value of both the Vakaj family and the Solarks.
