Btw im not saying everyone is like this in the fandom but a majority focus a lot on shipping and yes i am ignoring it! I block and mute anyone that makes me uncomfortable and everything but I also have a small right to vent a little. Esp since this is my blog.

May I ask how you draw & design your monkie ocs?

I come up with a design idea and just get the “base” reference down before researching some clothes to slap onto them. Once I find a proper outfit (because Chinese clothes are very complicated to get through and you can’t just throw in any random hanfu outfit if you want to make an elder god or something as an oc) I draw it over the base and BAM! Now I have the full body AND the clothes’ reference

For color palettes it depends! For De Wenyi, I wanted a peacock aesthetic so I looked up various breeds of peacocks and went with Charcoal and Peach breed peacocks which is what made her main and disguised forms!

I color picked the dark blues as her scarred fur and the white as her actual scars to contrast it. My friends say she kinda looks like an orca with her tummy and thigh patterns and they are not wrong. Brown was because charcoal peahens have brown in their feathers. Matched them together and BAM! There’s my goddess

Sometimes I’ll even make moodboards for them! I made these for my OCs Ziyang, De Wenyi and Zhong Nuican!

It helps me pinpoint what parts of the design I want to keep (Ziyang’s connection to metal, reds silvers and blacks on the design, trauma from battles, etc.) and what I can overlook (eye jewelry for Zhong Nuican) to keep the design simple enough to draw!

It’s great!

That’s how I make my ocs if they’re not inspired by other fictional characters (I have two inspired by Qilby from Wakfu so take it as you will <3)
