With the Game Awards announcement for The Outer Worlds 2, I was slapped across the face with nostalgia for my Captain and the OC that brought me back to Tumblr. I've since grown in my art skills and wanted to go back and draw her again. So, reintroducing: Ava Mueller. AKA a 26 year old, mall goth, medical resident from Earth who's down bad for the angry space priest.

10. Favorite music:

Ava loves metal music, the harder the better, it fills her little goth heart with joy

11. Biggest fear:

Being abandoned. Her parents treatment of her left her with a lasting fear of not being worthy of love and that people would always leave her.

12. Biggest fantasy:

Finding someone who loves her, who makes her feel safe, and that she'll never be left alone again.

13. Bad habits:

smoking, drinking, caffeine addiction, never getting enough sleep (3-4 hours max a night)

14. Biggest regret:

Letting Graham Bryant anywhere near her.

15. Best kept secrets:

Her family life. Her crew were quick to find out that she was from Earth and had been frozen for 70 years, they were also quick to find out her real name, rather than Alex Hawthorne.

But her life before coming to Halcyon was something she kept quiet for a long time. Coming to the colony was supposed to be her fresh start and she didn't want to dredge up old memories. It was easier just to not talk about it for a long time.

17. Worst romantic experience:

Any and all of her relationships back on Earth. Before coming to Halcyon she was prone to getting involved in all manner of one night stands and short lived relationships. She even made the mistake of sleeping with one of her professors in university.

She let a lot of people walk all over her and treat her like she wasn't worthy of their time or love in general.

18. Biggest insecurity:

Other than not believing she's worthy of love for a long time, in Halcyon life can be quite dangerous, and she is not a fighter. She very much lives by the medical oath of "Do No Harm" and so she relies on her crew a great deal to keep her safe while out on missions. This often makes her feel like a hindrance.

19. Weapon of choice:

If she's forced to kill, she uses her handgun. Though she did get pretty good with a blade as well.

20. Role Model:

Her eldest brother, the one who raised her after their parents' death. He was an engineer, smart and driven, he could find solutions to all sorts of problems. He was everything she wanted to be.

Ava grew up the youngest of four siblings, raised by parents who demanded success but who gave no love to her in return, she convinced herself academic greatness would win their love - it never did. Sent to a prestigious boarding school, she never saw her parents again, and after their death was raised by her eldest brother instead.

Before becoming the Captain of the Unreliable in Halcyon, Ava Mueller was a medical student in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania focusing on the study of Neurology

Thank you for the ask, been a while since I've thought about these two

🌈 - What were their first impressions of each other? 

Off the bat, Ava thinks he's a smarmy bastard who is far too arrogant for his own good. He's handsome sure, and somewhat charming, but he's smug and she is less than enthused about having to risk her own neck for his book.

Max is taken with her from the first time he sees her, she doesn't exactly look like or speak like most other colonists. She's healthy and clean and clearly well educated. she is everything a faithful follower of the Architect and the Plan could want, but there is a definite mystery about her that he can't quite place.

☔️ - How do they make up after a fight? 

Generally their fights can be quite heated, it certainly doesn't help that she likes to goad him into debates so that she can push his buttons and question his doctrine.

They are both the type to more or less forgive and forget after blowing up at each other like a volcano, they can usually be found minutes later drinking whiskey together and back to conversing like civilized colonists. Either that or it gets resolved in the bedroom.

🐬 - Who made the first move? 

Ava. Shortly after becoming crew mates she opens up to him (Ava is a terrible liar and cannot keep up the Alex Hawthorne charade for very long) and starts to put the moves on him. She doesn't really make it an official thing until arriving on Monarch and having a run in with Graham Bryant. She realizes she's caught feelings for the good Vicar and decides to make her move then.

OMG I love her from The Mentalist (I had no idea she was in The Craft)! Also what a romantic proposal 🥺💖 That sounds like such precious scene!

5) I always imagined Ava having a fairly feminine voice with just the right amount of husk to it. I think the best example would be Robin Tunney (Sara from The Craft in case you’re wondering who that is).

34) My favorite scene is one that has yet to be written, but one i’ve certainly imagined in fair detail: Max proposing to Ava. I picture him doing it on Devil’s Peak, since Monarch is Ava’s favourite planet. The sun is setting, they’re sharing a bottle of Iceberg Aged Whiskey, reminiscing. Then he pops the question. It’s all very romantic in my head, I dont know if i’ll ever be able to do it justice in writing. lol
