#oc: The Hollow

(warnings: scopophobia, technically gore if you think about it, disturbing or creepy imagery)

Oneirophobia: the fear of dreams, typically due to suffering from night terrors or nightmares.

(thought of some ocs. basic premise of the story: "Cub" is a kid whose father killed their mother and older brother, and due not having any living relatives who are in any position to take care of a child, is sent to live with their godparents. "Cub," however, is y'know. Really Traumatized from all of that. so in some ways, tries to imagine that their family, minus their father, is still there. this doesn't stop them from occasionally hallucinating their father, though.

even bigger problem: their father never got caught. he's still out there. and "Cub" is scared that when he finds them, he's either going to kidnap them, kill them, or both.

bonus facts:

- the plushies that "Cub" associates their family with: a creepy rabbit doll based off a cartoon character their father used to act as ("The Hollow"), a plush bear that their mother gave them at birth ("Minty Mama"), and an old plush dog that's a hand-me-down from their older brother ("Curly Pup")

- "Cub" envisions their father like that because he always tried to portray himself as a sweet and soft person, when in reality, he was far from it. the stiches on him are from where "Cub" tried to rip the plushie up.

- "Curly Pup's" appearance is based off where "Cub" witnessed their brother's murder.

- "Cub" calls themself that because their mom used to call them that, and because the plush they associate their mother with is a bear.

- related to the above point, that's why "Minty Mama" is called that; not just because that's how "Cub" views their mother, but because. y'know. Mama Bear.

- their mask is an actual real thing that they have and wear often.

- "Cub's" godparents don't really know how to help care for them like this. they send "Cub" to a child psychologist (who is depicted as bat in their mind due to a white bat plush that she gives them in her office) to help them through it, but besides that, they don't entirely know what to do to help. they just view "Cub's" "fantasies" to be their own way of coping with the trauma.

- i looked it up to see if it would fit, and i think that what "Cub" deals with would probably be Maladaptive Daydreaming.

- "Cub's" name is actually Noel.

- "Cub" is around 4-5 years old.

- the title of the story, "Oneirophobia," is based off of the fact that "Cub" struggles with sleep due to nightmares.)

Big fan of sun motifs in characters not necessarily being about positivity and happiness and how they're so " bright and warm" but instead being about fucking brutal they are.

Radiant. A FORCE of nature that will turn you to ash. That warmth that burns so hot it feels like ice. Piercing yellow and red and white. A character being a Sun because you cannot challenge a Sun without burning alive or taking everything down with them if victorious.

Bug Dewi (Mining Bee)

Many people have asked what Dewi, from the HK comic, would look like as a BUG. (The design is very loosely inspired by the Mining Bee). Here's a lil bit more art. And here's Dewi's dad as a bug.

I have also learned too much about this bee and will now infodump about why this is a cute bee for Dewi.

Mining Bees are solitary, but they commonly nest close by one another in "bee cities". I thought this would fit since Dewi is a Human, a social creature, but not a hive mind.

As a rule, Mining Bees are non-aggressive and their stingers are too fragile to sting humans. Much like Dewi, these bees do not want to fight.

Male Mining Bees are covered with shaggy patches of hair, which I thought would fit Dewi's signature fuzzy head.
