The First Time
The bass thumps through the heavy air of the crowded frat house as Daisy scrambled trying to find her friends. It was the first week of her sophomore year at LSU. One of the only weeks when she could actually find the time to enjoy these stupid parties without the strain of a heavy poli-sci workload weighing down on her shoulders. A red solo cup full of a concoction of various types of alcohol was gripped strongly in her hand as she pushed her way through the various drunk boys and girls. Daisy wasn’t wasted, but she was stumbling. Her vision was slightly impaired and a heat known as an alcohol blanket pricked at her skin.
‘DAIS’ a muffled voice yells from within the crowd before a hand of god grabs onto her forearm pulling her in a direction. A sigh of relief escaped from her pink lips as she realised it was her roommate and dearest friend Cassie. They embraced in a sloppy drunk hug, the type that usually takes place in a girls bathroom. The type that would make people think they hadn’t seen each other for months but in reality they had only been separated for ten minutes.
‘I fucking love you’ Cassie slurred from her mouth. Daisy beamed a caring smile back at her as she adjusted the stray honey blonde hairs that lay out of place around Cassie’s sweet face. They were randomly allocated a dorm together in freshman year and in that freshman year they became sisters. Daisy never expected it, she thought her roommate would be just that, a roommate, someone she got along with but never went out of her way to hang out with. Like an acquaintance. She had never been so wrong about anything in her life. The girls did everything together, they were joined at the hip. They went to their first parties together, they had their first blackout together, they smoked their first joint together, they went on their first double date together, they shared their first spring break together, they met each other's families and perhaps the most bonding moment; they went through their first heartbreaks together.
‘We need to find Bella’ Daisy shouted into Cassie’s ear over the obnoxious frat music that was playing. Bella had made their duo a trio in the middle of the girls heartbreaks, and she taught them that the boys they spent their days sobbing over were nothing but that; boys. She pulled them out of their slumps and showed them how to breathe again. It was because of Bella that the girls had spent their summer’s working, then partying, then working and then partying. From Louisiana, to Austin, to London, to the Hamptons, to New York, to Miami and then back to Louisiana. The three girls had been on a heartbreak tour this summer and had come back as women. It helped that Cassie was from Miami, Bella was from New York and that Daisy’s dad lived in London for his work. Daisy didn’t see him much, only over winter break and summer. That was how it had been since she was eight years old. She was born and raised in Austin, Texas, spent most of her life with just her and her mom in a small apartment that her dad paid for from across the pond. Her parents weren’t together, the long distance crippled their relationship when she was ten but she didn’t mind. She was used to it just being her and her mom.
‘She doesn’t want to be found’ Cassie replied with a mischievous grin across her wine tinted lips. She then glanced to a corner of the frat house, Daisy followed her eyes.
Bella’s lips tangled with anothers. Her hands pulled on his brunette mullet while his own hands explored her body. Cassie was right, Bella did not want to be found at this moment. Daisy pulled out her phone and sent Bella a text.
‘Find us once you’re done ;)’
‘I want a refill’ Daisy said as she pulled Cassie towards the frat house kitchen.
-
Ja’Marr, Justin and Joe stood in their kitchen. It was their party. A party to celebrate the start of the college football season and right now it was a success. The island was filled with bottles of alcohol, the front room was crammed with the hottest girls LSU had to offer and tonight they would be taking advantage of that. The three of them took swigs from their beers as they scouted out the crowd, each of the eyes darting to a different girl.
‘You spot one, QB?’ Joe's eyes squinted ever so slightly as he thought about the question Ja Marr had just asked him. He’d seen many women he liked the look of tonight but none that really captured his attention.
‘Nah bro’ Joe said as he shook his head ever so slightly while taking another drink. He was still watching the dance floor, still holding out hope for someone fresh to catch his eyes tonight, so he wouldn’t have to be forced to call up an old hookup.
‘JUSTINNNN’ Two high pitched and drunk voices squeal causing the three boys' heads to snap in their direction. It’s two girls, ones that Ja’marr and Joe were unfamiliar with but Justin knew them all too well. They are rushing over to where Justin is leant against the counter, he didn’t say anything but he looked at the two girls in a comedic annoyance. Joe lets his blue eyes linger on the brunette, trailing them up and down her body. He makes a note of her short denim skirt and the tight white crop top she is wearing with it. Her. He thought. She was the one for him tonight.
Joe looks at Justin in confusion before looking at Ja marr to understand if he knew these girls. Ja Marr shrugged his shoulders with widened eyes.
‘Yeah it’s me, keep your panties on’ Justin was cocky as he hooked an arm around each of the girls necks and brought them in for a quick hug. It was friendly, it didn’t look to be anything more than that.
‘We missed you’ Cassie lingers closer to Justin than Daisy does.
‘You two seem better’ Justin looks at them both up and down before he takes a long drink of his beer. The girls both twirl in front of him before Daisy swings her arm lazily over the shoulder of Cassie bringing them close together.
‘We’re new women now’ She tells him and he just nods. ‘Toootallllyyy over it’ Cassie added.
Justin had the unfortunate job of working with freshly heartbroken Cassie and Daisy for a class project in their last semester of freshman year. He became the girls unpaid therapist, which in this case meant he sat there in class with them and listened as they poured out every detail of their previous relationships to him offering back a ‘that’sss crazy’ or a ‘damn’ every so often. It was hell. Modern day hell, but somehow Justin found himself liking the girls. There was something likeable about them, and also they did all the work on that project making sure his grade was good enough that he could still play college football this year.
‘Yo. These are some friends from freshman year. Daisy and Cassie.’ Justin finally acknowledged his two clueless teammates who had just been standing and watching the whole exchange take place in front of them. Joe didn’t bother to look at Cassie, he kept his eyes only on Daisy.
‘Daisy. Cassie. These are my teammates Ja Marr and Joe’ Justin introduced them. Daisy notices that Joe is looking at her. He has this typical frat boy smirk plastered across his face. His blue eyes are dark with a dangerous glint lying behind them. A glint that made her feel both hot and uneasy. She only glanced at him. She knew what he was after and she didn’t feel like giving in.
‘Teammates?’ Cassie looked at Justin with a confused face. Daisy looked at him also, just registering what he had said fully.
‘From the football team’ Justin explained but the girls still looked lost. ‘I play football, on the LSU football team. I had to miss meetings for the project last year because of away games and training.’ Justin explains further and the girls snap their heads to look at each other and back to him.
‘Ew.’ was all Daisy slipped out of her mouth. Half teasing and half not. Daisy had a pretty rough track record when it came to football players. Her ex was one.
‘What’s wrong with football players?’ Joe finally speaks and Daisy’s green eyes meet his own. She looks him up and down. She takes note of his height, and his tanned skin. She takes note of the way his blonde hair sits in a perfectly messy manner on his head. She takes note of the way drunk her fancies him. She takes note of the arrogance that drips from every corner of his body. She takes note of the smug smile all hot shot college footballers wear.
‘Everything’ she snapped back, a drunken anger she didn’t know still remained gripping to her words. Joe scoffs in disgust. The air thickens. Cassie, Justin and Ja Marr notice it. The hot air now feels almost constricting. Joe and Daisy are having a standoff. Cassie turns quickly and grabs a random bottle of wine off the kitchen island.
‘Come on Dais, let’s go dance’ She pulls on Daisy’s arm causing her eye contact with a furrowed brow Joe to break. ‘See you around Justin’ She offers him a sweet smile, one which says sorry for the awkward encounter that just happened.
When they have left the kitchen Joe finally speaks.
‘What a brat’
He thinks about Daisy. He thinks about the way she insulted him, the way she looked him up and down. He thinks about the fact that when he first saw her he wanted her, he laughs at his own stupid thought from merely minutes ago. She hated football players.
The Second Time
The late August sun beams down on the Louisiana campus. Students hustle and bustle across the pavement, while others sit in their groups on the grass. Joe, Justin and Ja Marr are sitting at a picnic bench soaking in the rays. At the weekend the football season would officially commence with an opening game at Baton Rouge’s Tiger Stadium against Georgia Southern. The team knew it would be a pretty easy win, but with it being the first game of the season there would always be some slight nerves.
Justin spots her before Joe does.
‘Hey! Texas!’ he calls out to her. She was coming from class, Joe could tell by the backpack and the textbook in her hand. She was wearing an oversized soccer top, Chelsea. He didn’t know soccer all that well but he knew that was the team. The top was so big that her denim shorts only just peaked out from underneath. He wondered why she was wearing it. It didn’t look like hers. The size was too big. Maybe that’s why she hated football players, because she was a soccer girl.
Her plump lips stretched into a beaming smile as she recognised Justin, the smile faltered when she saw Joe. The falter was so quick only he could notice it.
‘Hey’ Joe notices the Texas twang now. It was stronger now that he was hearing it sober. She slid into the spare spot next to Ja marr and across from him, placing her politics textbook on the table. Her demeanor is different now. She’s not as bold or brash, she’s not as confident as she had been when she snapped at him. She’s more timid, she’s sweeter. That was what came to Joe’s mind.
‘You coming to the game at the weekend’ Justin asks her.
‘Nope’ Daisy makes the ‘p’ pop.
‘If we win, there’s a party at the frat. You should come’ Joe’s head spins to look at Justin beside him. He couldn’t believe it. Joe had spent pretty much the last few days talking about what a brat Daisy had been and how he couldn’t believe she had spoken to him like that.
‘What’s in it for me?’ Daisy questions. Justin doesn’t acknowledge his quarterback’s quizzing looks, or the anger that is beginning to show across his face. He didn’t want Daisy there. She’d bruised his ego, but Justin didn’t care about Joe’s ego, he cared about something else.
‘I’ll get your drinks’
‘Deal. I’ll make sure she comes’ Daisy was nonchalant in her response.
‘What’s happening right now?’ Ja Marr asked as he looked between his teammate and the brunette girl sat next to him.
‘He wants to hook up with my friend Bella’ She shrugged her shoulders. Ja Marr looked to Justin for confirmation.
‘She’s badddd’ Justin told him as he rubbed his hands together, almost in excitement. Justin had wanted to hook up with Bella since he first met her before summer. She had interrupted one of their project meetings and he had been dreaming of her ever since. Well, dreaming of her body. He didn’t want to date her or anything and Bella wasn’t the type to date anyway. They matched perfectly in that sense.
‘I have to run. Got class at ten. DM me the details.’ She stood up from the table and the boy's eyes linger on her.
‘Bye Joe’ She is sickly sweet. Her smile isn’t genuine. It’s a teasing one, one which lets him know that she remembers their exchange in the kitchen. One which lets him know she felt his eyes looking at her for moments too long.
Joe doesn’t respond, he just watches her walk away.
The Third Time
55-3. Georgia Southern never stood a change. Joe Burrow’s LSU were well under way, and they looked good. Screw that. They looked exceptional.
Cheers erupted through their frat house as the boys stood on the coffee table shotgunning beers before throwing them into the sea of people that stood around them. Tonight. Tonight they partied like kings.
Daisy watched from the back of the room alongside Cassie and Bella. She watched as people cheered for him. He was standing in a white LSU top, likely one from his training and some black shorts. The top clung to his skin already, but was now ever so slightly wet from the spilt beer. She could see the outlines of his abs, she could see the outline of his pectoral muscles. His hair was covered by a black backwards cap, one that she hated to admit suits him. His skin is covered in a sheen, the heat of the room affecting him. The tanned skin on his cheeks flushing ever so slightly pink.
A blonde bombshell leans over and speaks to him. Her hand lay delicately on his bicep. He smiles at her. Then his smile is replaced by the smug look all footballer players get when they know a pretty girl wants them.
Daisy sips from her drink as she watches the exchange play out across the room. She watches as Joe and the mystery blonde go elsewhere in the frat house. Classic.
‘I don’t get the obsession’ Bella said as she looked in disgust at the people throwing themselves at the football team. Not even just girls. Other boys preach them as Gods. Showering them in compliments, all in the hopes that they would acknowledge them. All in the hope that they could say they were friends with the LSU football team. Daisy had grown up in Texas, she was more than familiar with how football stars were treated. Her ex was one. And she was his cheerleader. She shuddered at the breath of thought that crept its way into the forefront of her mind. The thoughts of a past life she likes to forget she lived. She downs her drink to halt the memories. Cassie notices.
‘Let’s go dance’ and she pulls both Daisy and Bella into the crowd in front of them.
-
‘She was so fucking boring’ Joe said as he rejoined Ja Marr in the corner of the frat house. The blonde had taken his interest when she leaned over to him and whispered sweet nothings into his ear. However, a few conversations between kisses in the backyard had nummed him. Cute girl. Good kisser. Absolutely no personality. Not even enough for him to want to go through with the hook up.
‘Shi sucks man’ Ja Marr sympathises.
‘Whatchu doin?’ Joe questions him.
‘Scouting’ Ja Marr smirked. Joe did too. The pair clink their beers together and watch the crowd dancing. ‘White girl’ by Shy Glizzy is blasting through the speakers. The wood floors almost shake beneath their feet. Strobe lights flash across the ceiling and smoke fills the air from the amount of vapes. The smell of cigarettes, alcohol and weed lingers in the heavy air.
‘Yo. Justin got his girl’ Ja Marr hits Joe gently in the chest and nods in their direction.
Justin and Bella are making out, heavily. That meant that the little devil named Daisy was here also. Joe couldn’t help but look for her in the crowd. He spots Cassie first. His eyes move slightly to her right and there she is.
Daisy’s holding her hair up in her hands as she winds her waist to the rhythm of the song. One of Joe and Ja Marr’s frat brothers is stood behind her. A hand loosely on her waist. Joe checks her out, and he can’t help but scoff ever so slightly at her outfit. She’s wearing a tight black tank top that’s clinging to every curve of her skin, her chest pushed up ever so slightly. Enough for Joe to take notice.
He takes a swig of his beer.
He watches her waist move around as she wears distressed denim shorts with a thick tan belt and a silver buckle. A buckle which has a long horned cattle imprinted on it.
He takes another swig of his beer.
Red cowboy boots. She was wearing red cowboy boots to a frat party. It was so painfully texas. And maybe it was the liquor. But right now Joe wanted Texas.
‘I’m hunting bro’ Joe handed Ja Marr his beer before he set off into the crowd.
-
Daisy whined her waist on the stranger behind her. She was too tipsy to care who it was. She just wanted to have fun. Memories of an ex had somehow plagued her mind since she got here and she would do anything to get rid of them. She hadn’t thought about him all summer but the talk of football had brought him back.
‘Get out of here Jaxon’ a deep annoyed voice deeply interrupts her dancing. The warm hand that had made its home on her bare waist drops and cold air hits the flesh it left behind.
‘She your’s? Shit. my bad QB, my bad’ His voice panicked as it fades further and further away.
Daisy turns around in confusion, wanting to know who had stopped her fun.
Joe.
‘Ugh’ Daisy audibly groaned at the face in front of her. She should have guessed. She should have guessed he was quarterback as well. She should have been able to tell from not only his physical appearance but the cockiness that clings to his every action and every word.
‘You can keep dancing’ He’s smug when he says it. She rolls her eyes. And then that tension comes back. The one that makes the air feel like it’s being sucked away. They’re staring at each other, neither of them saying a word but somehow they’re having a conversation.
She knows why he came over. It’s written all over his face. He knows she’s considering it. It’s written all over her face.
He’s looking down at her. She’s looking up at him. Cogs turning in each of their heads as they try to figure out what they were going to do next.
Daisy knows she shouldn’t want him. She told herself never again. But he’s stood in front of her, in a backward cap that makes him look so good. She can see his muscles almost bursting out from beneath his training top, and she wants to see them fully. If her mind hadn’t been running with thoughts of a previous boy, then she wouldn’t have thought about the distraction Joe could offer her. If she had had two drinks less, she wouldn’t be picturing him on top of her. Joe was a forbidden fruit in the garden of eden presenting itself as a frat house. A forbidden fruit which looked so good she couldn’t help but take a bite.
Joe wanted her from the moment he saw her. Joe had wanted her every time he saw her. He liked that she didn’t want to want him but she still did. He could see it in her green eyes. He could see in the pink lip she held bitten between her teeth. He could feel it in the air between them. He could feel it in the shaky but desperate breath she let out.
‘One time’ It’s like a whisper.
And suddenly the red light flicked green.
Joe grabbed her hand with desperation, like she was going to change her mind at any second. He led her up the stairs of the house to where his room was. Once the door was shut and the lock flicked, their barriers dropped.
It started with a desperate kiss. Joe’s hands were firm on her hips as he pulled her in towards her. She’s breathless as she kisses him back with her own desperation. She pulls the backwards cap of his head and tosses it somewhere in the room before running her hand through his blonde hair, tugging every so often. When she does he lets out small groans. Groans which let her know he likes it.
‘Just one time’ She whispers into his lips. She’s not saying it for him, she’s saying it for herself. Just this once, she would let herself taste the forbidden fruit. Just to escape the thoughts of her last life. The life that ended over a text four months ago.
‘It’s just sex. That’s all this is’ Joe’s breathless when he responds. Heavy breaths leaving his parted lips as he clings to her waist like she’s the most important thing in the world to him. She nods. She didn’t want anything more. She didn’t even like Joe. She didn’t even know him enough to know whether she liked him or not. She didn’t even know his last name. She pulls her lips from his once again.
‘What’s your last name?’
Joe’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Like it was the last thing he expected to leave her lips.
‘Burrow’ He told her. Daisy nods. Then she crashes her lips back into his own and they continue like nothing ever happened. He tasted like beer but somehow it was sweet. Somehow it felt familiar. Joe’s hands move from her hips and instead grip intensely onto her ass in the denim shorts. He offers it a smack, not too hard as he was testing what she liked, trying to figure her out with every reaction she gave to his touch. She let out a small moan and he knew she liked it.
Joe begins to move them backwards, inching closer towards his bed with their mouths still pressed against each other’s and their tongues intertwining in a perfect rhythm. When the back of Daisy’s calves reach the soft cotton bed sheets she lets herself fall backwards. She’s on his bed beneath him, perched on her forearms and looking at him with dark eyes. Eyes filled with an animalistic desire and covered in a drunken gloss. Her chest is rising and falling quickly as she tries to catch the breath Joe had taken from her. Joe looked back at her with his own desire. His once bright blue eyes now deep and sunken, hungry for what lay in his bed. He took her in. His eyes panned over the smooth skin on her legs, then to her chest, then to her swollen lips and then to her eyes. He was slow and precise by how he looked at her. If this was a one time thing, he needed to make it count. He kneeled and Daisy held a breath.
He pulled at the red leather cowboy boots and threw them to the side with a heavy thud.
‘Hey’ Daisy snapped. ‘Careful with my boots’
Joe stood back up and towered over her, not responding to her snappy words. Instead he pulled the white LSU shirt over his head and tossed it to the side. He saw her gulp and he let it fuel his already large ego. Daisy’s eyes traced the deep grooves which sculpted his torso, the ones which outlined his abs. He was the most muscular man she had seen in the flesh. Heat pooled in her underwear and her stomach flipped. Fuck. She thought. Her lip once again found itself being bitten between her teeth in a subconscious reaction. The smug look is worn on the quarterback's face once more, but this time she didn’t care. He had the right to be smug because he was making her feel things she hadn’t felt for a long time.
‘Take your clothes off’ His command was rough and deep. They engage in a stand off again. Daisy had never been told to take her clothes off in the bedroom. Her ex would take them off her or she would just do it without being told. She unbuckled her belt and the top button on her shorts.
‘stand up’ Joe once again commands her. She doesn’t know why but she listens.
‘Now take them off’ She follows his words like they’re biblical. She doesn’t even think twice about it. Perhaps it’s the hunger in his eyes as he says it, or the commanding tone, she didn’t know why she was listening to him but she was.
Her shorts dropped to the floor and she pushed them to the side. She pulls her tank top over her head and throws it in the direction of her boots in the corner of the room. Joe watches her, he studies her body like he will take an exam on it. He takes a note of the three moles which sit across her torso and the small scar at the top of her thigh. He takes her in. The singular lamp lighting up his room bounces off her, she appears like she’s almost glowing. Like an angel in a golden aura.
Her bra and panties match, like she knew this was going to happen. They’re leopard print, comically sleazy, and he’s more turned on than he has ever been in his life. He takes off his own black shorts leaving himself in white Calvin Kleins. She looks for a split second. Another gulp.
Joe lets the knuckle of his index finger delicately trace a line on her toned abdomen and his eyes follow it. She holds her breath.
‘I need you’ His voice is low. When his eye’s flick up to meet hers it’s game on again.
He pushes her onto the bed as their lips collide once more. The room is hot and heavy. The music from the party below them is felt through the floorboards. It’s some rap song and people are cheering but they’re not focussed on that. Joe and Daisy are only focussed on each other and getting rid of the aching feeling that's pooling in both their stomachs.
Joe leaves sloppy kisses from her neck down to the waistband of her underwear. Daisy hips already bucking at just the thought of him being inside her. There was something about knowing she shouldn’t be doing this that made her want to do it even more. She widens her legs and she feels Joe smile into her thigh as he places me wet kisses.
‘You need me baby’ He’s almost taunting with his words. He places a kiss on her clit over the underwear and she lets out a shy whimper. ‘That’s it’ He’s so smug it hurts, but there is nothing she can do because she’s panting beneath him. She’s crumbling under his touch. ‘Tell me you want it baby’ He pauses his kisses and looks at her through his eyelashes.
‘Fuck you’ She breathlessly tell him. Then there’s a pause. A small silence fills the space between them. He’s waiting for what he knows is coming.
‘I want it’ She whimpers and Joe rips her underwear in half. He gets straight into pleasuring her. His tongue draws patterns on her swollen clit while his fingers pump in and out of her. She’s almost screaming in pleasure and she’s thankful the party around them blocks out the noise.
‘Fuck. you’re soaking for me’ Joe almost moans as he continues to pleasure her. As pathetic as it sounds, she was almost already at a climax and Joe could feel it. He felt her walls tightening around his fingers and he wanted to feel her. He could make her cum again. ‘You can let it go sweet thing’ Daisy moaned in response to his words. A few pumps of his finger later and she was coming undone.
‘Ah fuck Joe. I’m- ‘mm c’ Daisy struggles to get her words out as pleasure overtakes her. She can’t string together a cohesive thought let alone a sentence thanks to Joe. ‘I know baby, I know’ Joe replied as he removed his lips from her clit.
He gave her only a few moments to catch her breath while he pulled off his boxers letting himself spring free.
Fuck. Daisy thought. 6’4 quarterback, she knew he wouldn’t be small but-
‘On your stomach’ he told her and once again she listened. Her body on autopilot to his commands, she wanted her to put up some resistance but it was like her body was disconnected.
‘Good girl’ She knows he’s beaming with a smile, she can tell it in his tone. It’s like he’s trying to hold in a mocking laugh and yet even that doesn’t stop her from spreading her legs and allowing him inside. She groans as he fits himself within her, he’s gentle for three strokes, letting her adjust to a size she wasn’t used to. Then he goes.
His pace picks up and the noise of skin slapping fills the room. The noise of him smacking her ass as it moves in response to his heavy thrusts echoes around them. One hand gripped on her waist, guiding her down his length. She’s moaning uncontrollably. He’s grunting like it’s the first time he’s fucked someone. She felt so good, so so good. So good it was making his toes curl ever so slightly. He admired her as he took her from behind, admired the way her ass bounced with every thrust, admired the way she arched for him and the way she let out small whimpers of his name. He didn’t think he’d have her like this, but he was so glad he did.
-
Heavy breaths filled the silence between them as they lay naked next to each other. Neither of them daring to speak, neither of them knowing what to say. Daisy didn’t regret it, that wasn’t what she was feeling but she was feeling something she couldn’t quite place. Was it guilt? She shook the thought away. Why would she feel guilty? She didn’t have any reason to feel guilty, she was single and this wasn’t the first guy she had hooked up with since her ex. So why did this weigh heavier?
‘You wan-’ Joe started. ‘I gotta head’ Daisy finished, not listening to what else he was going to say.
She scrambled around the room naked picking up her different items of clothes. ‘Shit’ She held her ripped underwear between her fingers before shooting an almost murderous look at Joe.
‘Chill’ Joe said nonchalantly as he himself got up and made his way to the top drawer of his dresser. She watched him rummage around.
‘Here. These should be about your size’ He tossed her some random underwear. Daisy looked at him with horror, genuine horror. Some random girls left over underwear had just been tossed at her.
‘What? They’re washed’ Joe looks confused by her reaction. She scoffs, not going near the black lacy underwear that had been tossed to her. She went commando instead.
‘This never happened’ was all she said before she ran out his bedroom door to find Cassie.

Shiver

Yandere OC x male reader
Warnings: Yandere stuff, a tiny bit of blood, nothing really that bad yet
A/N: this is DEFINITELY not named after Shiver by Coldplay (not proofread yet)
Word count: 2.1k
It’s summer and the weather has finally cleared up. You finish zipping up your suitcase and hurrying outside. “(Name)! Hurry up or we’re leaving without ya!” Your friend Maddie calls. You roll your eyes, she was the most impatient girl ever. Slinging your backpack over your shoulder and picking up your suitcase, you leave the house. One of your other friends, Olivia, helps you put both things into the trunk of the van. “Hurry up everybody!” Maddie calls, getting into the driver's seat. You hop up into the passenger seat, buckling your seatbelt. You look over at Maddie before glancing into the backseats. In the middle seats sat Liv and her boyfriend, Tommy. In the backseats sat Cassie, her boyfriend Andrew, and his friend Parker. You look back at Maddie and whisper to her, “Why’d you have to invite Cassie? All she’s gonna do is fuck Andrew.” You look back and see Parker eyeing you. Your eyes meet Maddies once more. “And Parker is still into me.” You say, hushed. Maddie rolls her eyes and puts a hand on your shoulder as she starts backing out of the driveway. “Stop being a downer and just have fun. All you do is worry, let loose for once.” She says. “Alright, our first stop is gonna be a gas station in Colorado.” Olivia says, holding a map in her hands. As the car begins driving out of town, you close your eyes, using your jacket as a blanket.
Someone is shaking you. Your eyes flutter open and you look up at Olivia in a daze. She smiles and shakes you once more. “Wake up, (Name). We’re at the gas station.” Olivia says, voice soft. You groan a bit and curl up in your seat. Liv sighs and pets your head. “Do you want me to get anything for you?” She asks. You nod sleepily, mumbling what you wanted for snacks and drinks. She nods and heads inside the gas station with everyone else.
Hours later and you all arrive at your first campsite. The night was long but fun. The next morning Maddie wakes up at dawn and yells around the camp for everyone to wake up and pack up the tents. Once everyones packed up you all get back on the road.
“Wow…I never knew Wyomming actually had a forest.” Cassie says, watching as the trees pass by. Olivia laughs with Tommy, cuddling up with each other. “There's woods EVERYWHERE dumbass.” Andrew says. “Hey, we’re reaching a gravel road, can someone else drive?” Maddie asks, pulling the van over. “Yeah.” Tommy says, already sliding the door open and hopping out. Olivia does the same and you and Maddie get out of the front seats. After you all get situated, Tommy begins driving.
“These woods are giving me the creeps…” Cassie says while playing on her phone. She groans. “There's no service out here either. Olivia, tell Tommy to get us out of this hillbilly area!” Tommy rolls his eyes. “Jesus, Cassie. Can’t you go five seconds without your phone?” Cassie scoffs at Tommy and keeps trying to get cell service. Suddenly the van runs over something. Everyone jumps and looks at each other, confused. Tommy stops the van and quickly gets out. You look at Maddie, a scared look on her face. She looks out the window and back at you. “It’s probably just a squirrel or something.” You tell her reassuringly. Tommy opens the drivers door. “Y’all might wanna see this.” He sighs. You, Olivia, and Parker all climb out of the vehicle. “What happened?” Parker asks, crossing his arms. “Well uh…” Tommy trails off, pointing at the back left tire. The tired had barbed wire stuck to it. “Holy crap…” You whisper. “Well…what do we do?” Olivia asks. Tommy looks around, scratching his head. “Uhm…maybe two of you can go and try to find a gas station or something. I mean if we keep walking in the direction we were going, we’re bound to find a shop or another person that can get us help.” He explains. You nod and grab your jacket. “I’ll go look. I need to stretch my legs anyways.” You say. Parker immediately grabs his jacket too. “I’ll come with.” He states and before you can say anything, Tommy smiles and thanks you both. He gives you both a few water bottles and some snacks. “Be safe.” He smiles. You and Parker begin walking.
It’s probably at least been an hour since the two of you started walking. It was all still woods and hot out. Parker stops walking and squints his eyes. You look at him, confused, before following his gaze. “I think it’s a gas station or somethin’...” Parker mutters, rubbing his eyes. “Well let’s go to it.” You reply, starting to walk once more. Parker grabs your hand, holding you in place. “Somethin’ don’t feel right…” He says again. You sigh. Sure you were a paranoid guy, but Parker was a whole different level of paranoid. “It’ll be fine. You’ve been watching those creepy videos all day.” You assure him, pulling his arm.
Soon you reach the building. It was a small auto or body shop. The garage door was open and the store door was propped open with a rock, an open sign hung on the doorknob. You can hear loud rock music playing from inside. You both walk up to the garage door. “Uh, hello?” You call out. There's no answer. “I told you this ain’t right…” Parker mumbles, crossing his arms. “Let's just go.” Parker says, upset. When you turn around you’re met face to face with a man. You let out a scream and Parker backs up. The man just smirks, taking a drag of a cigarette. “Sorry for scaring ya, pretty boy.” He then looks at Parker, still smirking but you swear that for a second, a look of anger is in his eyes. You quickly step between the two. “Sorry for bothering you, sir. You see, me and my friends are on a road trip but we ran over barbed wire and so we now need a new tire. Do you think we could buy one?” You ask calmly. The man's eyes light up again. “Well of course, cutie. I’ll get you and your friend what y’all need.” You smile. “Thank you, so much. Really, you’re a lifesaver. The man chuckles and shakes his head. “I ain’t that at all.” He says, turning and walking into the shop. You’re about to follow him, but Parker stops you. “I’ll buy the tire…just stay out here.” You nod and watch as he follows the man.
It’s been a few minutes and you’ve already gotten restless. You look at the mountains in the distance, they looked more than beautiful. Looking around, you spot a trailer home a bit more in the woods, only a small ways away from the shop. You can see a mini log cabin dog house in the yard by the steps and walk over. You crouch and look inside the dog house, seeing if you could find the pup. All that sits in there is a bone and a tennis ball. You smile and grab the ball before standing up and looking around. “Here puppy! Come here!” You call out, holding out the ball, hoping the dog is nearby. You let out a whistle, “Come here puppy!” You were about to give up on looking when something bumped into you. You practically jumped and immediately looked around before seeing a saint Bernard sniffing your shoes. You grin and crouch down, holding out your hand. The dog sniffs it before giving a small chuff.
“Here boy, you wanna play?” You ask, holding up the ball. The dog tilts his head and wags his tail. You throw the ball across the yard and watch as the huge dog bounds after it, letting out a bark. Suddenly, a hand claps onto your shoulder. You let out a scream and turn around and meet eyes with Parker. “(Name), what the hell are you doing?” He hisses out. You shrug and point at the dog. “Playing.” Parker just looks at you with an unamused face. “Playing?” He asks, scowling at you. “Leave the thing, it probably has fleas or some weird disease.” Parker grunts, grabbing your arm and pulling you back to the auto shop. “Parker, what the hell?!” You argue. Parker spins around and places both hands on your shoulders. “Listen,” he begins, voice hushed, “This guy is a weirdo, okay? He’s charging a hundred fifty for a new tire and my cell doesn’t work out here and I’m guessing yours doesn’t either.” He looks over his shoulder and looks back at you. “He has a phone in the shop. You call Olivia and see if she or anybody else can get out here, okay? I’m gonna try and a lower price on the tire.” You sigh, “Parker, stop acting like this guy is some killer. It’s irrational.” You state, crossing your arms. Parker rolls his eyes and walks back into the shop.
“Hey man, can we use your phone?” Parker asks. The mechanic grins and shakes his head. “Phones broken. But the one in my house works, I’ll take ya to it.” He says, wiping oil off of his pants. As he takes you to the house, you stop by the dog house, looking for the Saint Bernard again. “Ya lookin’ for Bo?” The mechanic chuckled. You nod. “Why don’t you find Bo and I’ll help your friend with the phone, yeah?” He says, going up the trailer home’s front stairs. “Are you sure? I mean, I should probably go with you, Parker.” Parker shakes his head, “I’ll be fine.” You give another nod. “Uh, by the way, what’s your name?” Parkers asks the mechanic. The man smiles. “Rusty, Rusty Smith.” He says, holding out his hand to Parker. The two shake hands and you watch as they disappear into the home.
You begin towards the treeline, calling for Bo. You spot the dog and he barks at you before running into the woods. “Wait!” You shout, running after the dog. You run through the woods, leaves and bushes occasionally scraping your arms and legs. Bo keeps stopping and letting you get close before bounding off again. You groan, beginning to get out of breath, but you still follow the dog.
The sun is setting now and you finally catch up to Bo. You smile and bend down to give him pets. Bo licks your face and gives a small bark. You stand up and look around, realizing that you don’t know which way you had come from. You look at the setting sun and begin to grow anxious. You’re in the middle of the woods, alone, and with no sense of direction. A small breeze causes you to shiver, your tank top and shorts not doing much to keep you warm. “Shit…” You mutter to yourself. You look down at Bo, maybe he would know the way back? Bo begins walking and you follow him. After a few minutes the beam of a flashlight cuts through the night. You shield your eyes and Bo lets out a bark before bounding to whoever was holding the flashlight. You timidly walk over to the figure before it speaks. “There ya are pretty boy.” Rusty chuckles out, moving the beam of the flashlight. You let out a sigh of relief. “Thank god, I thought I was gonna be lost out here forever!” You say, not noticing the now dried blood on Rusty’s forearms. Rusty chuckles and wraps an arm around your shoulder. “Well, it’s a good thing Bo was with ya. Let’s get ya back to safety.” He says before beginning to walk.
After what seemed like forever, you finally made it back to Rustys shop. It was probably 10 pm by now and you let out a stifled yawn. “Ya tired?” Rusty asks. You nod. “Well you can sleep in my bed and I’ll stay on the couch, yeah?” He states, opening the home's door. “What about Parker?” You question, looking around for any signs of him. “Oh, he left after you went off to find Bo. He said you probably went back so he left too.” Rusty explains, but you swear you see this sinister look in his eyes. “But…Parker wouldn’t do that…” You respond, beginning to get upset at the fact that Parker had just up and left. Rusty sighs and pats your shoulder. “Told him to just wait. C’mon, let’s get ya some dinner and some rest and then I’ll take ya to your friends tomorrow morning.” You smile at his words and follow him inside.

Inevitably Inevitable
Premise: Ethan and Cassie receive a surprise performance during their wedding reception.
Fandom: Open Heart Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Cassie Valentine); feat. M!OC characters Rating/Category: Teen. Fluff. Words: 950
A/N: I was watching some wedding dance videos on TikTok, and it inspired this fun little fic. Enjoy!
The ballroom in the Newport mansion was the perfect backdrop for a fairytale wedding. Cassie Valentine had dreamed of celebrating her special day in her family’s home for as long as she could remember.
Her mother had gone all out to give her only daughter exactly what she wanted — an intimate wedding ceremony in the gardens overlooking the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean, followed by a reception in the beautifully decorated ballroom that echoed the elegance of the Gilded Age.
Sipping champagne, her toes tapped to the upbeat music still playing over the speakers, even as the DJ took a well-deserved break.
She loved to dance, and her friends and family had happily joined her on the dance floor. Her husband had bowed out following two slow dances, one of which was their first dance as husband and wife.
Ethan Ramsey wasn’t a bad dancer when he put his mind to it, but he wasn’t one to bust a move either.
She’d spotted him every now and then, chatting with his father and Naveen, laughing with her dad, and enjoying whiskey with her brother and male cousins.
But that had been a while ago, she thought, her brow furrowing with concern.
Cassie craned her neck, scanning the edges of the crowd for him. She smiled as he slipped his arms around her from behind, his familiar scent enveloping her as he kissed the top of her shoulder.
“Looking for me?” he whispered, his warm breath tickling her ear.
Before Cassie could reply, the lights dimmed just enough to cast a soft, curious hush over the guests, who began looking around, waiting for something to happen.
“I wonder what’s going on,” she murmured, trying to recall the plans her mom and Sienna had shared earlier.
Across the room, her bestie Sienna looked perplexed as the music abruptly shut off.
Then—BOOM—the opening chords of Backstreet Boys’ “Backstreet’s Back” exploded through the speakers, the DJ back in position.
At the center of the dance floor, her twin Max stepped forward dramatically—sans suit jacket, sleeves rolled up to his forearms. He held a finger to his invisible headset mic like he was about to headline Madison Square Garden.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” he announced, a mischievous grin lighting up his face, “this one’s for our bride and groom. We’ve been waiting a long time for this. All eight weeks, in fact, ever since these two crazy kids decided to upend our summer plans with their runaway marriage.”
He winked at his sister, then turned to her husband.
“Ethan… this is payback for making us sit through four years of ‘will-they-won’t-they’ tension, and Cassie’s ‘but we’re inevitable’ refrain.”
He mimicked Cassie’s dreamy tone with a dramatic eye-roll, and laughter rippled through the room.
From either side of the dance floor, her cousins Tony and Brandon strutted in like they were entering a boy band reunion tour, followed by her oldest friend Mike, who unbuttoned his blazer mid-walk with the intensity of a backup dancer who finally got his moment.
The crowd let out an audible “Ooooh!” as the beat dropped, and the guys hit their first move in perfect sync, shoulder rolls and hip pops matching the groove.
Ethan’s jaw dropped. Cassie immediately collapsed into giggles, leaning back against her new husband, thoroughly entertained.
Synchronized chest pops, body rolls, finger jabs. It was equal parts dance routine and public roast.
“Am I original?” Tony threw his arms wide as he played to the crowd.
“Am I the only one?” Mike crooned, tilting his head toward Cassie with an exaggerated smolder.
Max took center stage, mouthing along to the lyrics with exaggerated intensity. “Am I… sexual?”
He pointed straight at Ethan.
The crowd lost it. Ethan shook his head, half mortified, half impressed. Cassie choked on her champagne.
In perfect formation, the guys nailed the classic slide, one arm out, hip thrust and smoldering stare before pausing dramatically.
“Ethan,” said Tony, “we just want to thank you for finally realizing Cassie was your soulmate.”
“Took you long enough.” Brandon rolled his eyes. “She was doodling your name in her notebooks since college.”
Mike winked at Ethan, then shared an amused smirk with Cassie.
“We thought we were going to have to blackmail you just to make this wedding happen.”
Cassie was laughing so hard she had tears in her eyes.
Then Max stepped forward again and belted out, “CASSIE’S BACK—ALRIGHT!”
The guys launched into the final chorus, throwing in pelvic thrusts, finger twirls, dramatic squats, and expressions so overacted, they’d make any boy band proud.
Mid-performance, they ripped off their button-downs to reveal matching T-shirts.
Max: “The Twin with the Moves” Tony: “The Better Looking Cousin” Brandon: “Backup Cousin #2 (Still Hot)” Mike: “Cassie’s First Crush”
They twirled around, perfectly in sync, revealing the letters stretched across the backs of all four shirts.
“TEAM INEVITABLE: SINCE DAY ONE.”
The room erupted.
Cassie placed two fingers in her mouth and let out a sharp whistle, then clapped over her head in appreciation.
Max, a little breathless but grinning like a kid, bowed. “Only the best for my sister. And her ridiculously lucky husband.”
Cassie hugged them one by one, tears of laughter clinging to her lashes. “You guys are the worst—and the best.”
Still smiling from the spectacle, Ethan reached out to shake hands with each of them. “I deserved that.”
Max clasped Ethan’s hands tightly. “You sure did. We’ve been waiting to do this for years.”
“Will I ever live this down?” Ethan said, pulling Cassie close.
“Oh, absolutely not,” Sienna said with a laugh, rushing towards them, waving her phone in the air. “This is already my new favorite video.”

A Spoonful of Sugar (And Eyes of Ocean Blue)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/65098333
Summary:
Springtime on Pabu was warm and breezy, as well as the time of year when the twins’ birthdays rolled around, and that was why Wrecker, the best, greatest, most fun uncle in the world (no matter Echo’s opinion on the matter) was taking Hunter's kids out for a pre-birthday treat. Or, part of the reason why. The other part of the reason was blonde with blue eyes, looking like a springtime bloom in a pink dress that hugged her curvy figure, and standing just on the other side of the counter.
After referencing Wrecker and an OC beginning a relationship in "First Word," I actually went on a little side quest and wrote the beginning of their own story, but I wasn't sure if I was going to share it.
After a reader's comment, though, I finally am! 🥰😁
Wrecker had grown to love springtime on Pabu, and not just because every season on his new homeworld fascinated him. Springtime was bright and sunny before the tropical heat settled over the island, the breeze-swept interim between a comfortable winter and a pleasant summer. Thrushes, wrens, and fluffy little bluethroats were already chirping out their merry melodies and plucking up every twig or slip of straw they could find for their nests.
As the former demolitions expert watched one of the tiny birds – probably a tawny wren, he thought – snatch up a few wisps of long grass that had been brushed by the quiet breeze onto the cobblestones, a cheerful voice joined the island’s springy chorus, weaving into the symphony rather than slicing through it.
“Two double chocolate cupcakes, coming right up!”
Wrecker chuckled at the twins as they bounced on their toes in front of the shop counter. The soles of Cassie’s dusty sandals bent into well-worn creases as she stretched up to peek over the countertop, but Koda was barefoot, as usual. Wrecker knew the kid had been wearing shoes when they had left Hunter’s place – he had watched Sheona coax her son into putting them on, with far more patience than he would ever have – but he could not figure out where Koda could have possibly mislaid them on just the short walk into Pabu’s bustling market.
Springtime was also the time of year when the twins’ birthdays rolled around, so that was why he, the best, greatest, most fun uncle in the world (no matter Echo’s opinion on the matter) was taking them out for a pre-birthday treat. Or, part of the reason why.
The other part of the reason was blonde with blue eyes, looking like a springtime bloom in a pink dress that hugged her curvy figure, and standing just on the other side of the counter.
“Thank you!” both of Hunter’s children said in unison. Koda eagerly accepted the cupcake from Sophie, his bright eyes shining with glee as she told him it was still a little warm. Cassie continued to turn hers around in her hands, trying to figure out the cleanest way to eat it without getting a face full of chocolate frosting. Koda watched his sister for a moment, then unceremoniously took off the wrapper and took a big bite out of the sugary treat. When he looked back up with a happy grin, he had a frosting mustache.
Sophie laughed at the twins' differing reactions, and Wrecker found himself watching her face. He was used to paying attention to detail – in demolition engineering, even seemingly insignificant minutiae could be the difference between walking away from an explosion or being dug out of the rubble in pieces – so he was surprised to notice something new about her eyes, even after knowing her for months. Her eyes were primarily a bright shade of blue, but there were large gold flecks around her pupils, reflecting sunlight like the waves by the pier did at sunset.
He wasn’t sure exactly when in the last few months he had started feeling all jittery around her, but he knew precisely when he realized why. He’d been standing on that pier, watching the sun set and pull all the colors in the sky down after it, when he’d had the sudden thought that it would be perfect if Sophia were beside him. That had turned into the realization that everything would be better if she were there, and then one thought leading to the next had eventually convinced him that this fluttering feeling wasn’t going away any time soon – and that he didn’t want it to.
Maybe that was why he thought of the ocean, now, when he saw her eyes. Because that was when he realized that he was most likely – definitely – in love with her.
Those eyes turned to him with a questioning glance, and he realized with a jolt that she’d been talking to him while watching the twins. She realized he hadn’t been listening at the same time that he did, and laughed.
He loved to hear her laugh.
He started, stunned by his lapse in attention and flustered by the sound. “What?”
“I said that whoever was in charge of handing out personalities went all or nothing on these two cuties,” she smiled. “Koda is an insane little guy, and Cassie is… well, she's basically a princess.”
On any other occasion, Cassie would have agreed enthusiastically. At the moment, though, she was too busy trying to eat her cupcake faster than Koda, all proprietary thrust aside in the attempt to beat her brother. Frosting covered her lips, and Wrecker could already see that Koda’s matched.
“A messy princess,” Sophie corrected herself with a smile.
The big man laughed and shook his head at his niece and nephew. “Yeah. They sure are. They love all your treats, though.” He felt heat creeping up beneath the collar of his loose shirt and cleared his throat. “So, uh, that's one thing they've got in common.”
“Well, that's because of that.” She pointed up to a sign, near the menu, that said in flowing, handwritten script,
Kindness is like sugar
It makes everything a little sweeter.
“I put an extra spoonful of sugar into every single batch.” She winked at him playfully, and Wrecker thought his heart exploded, or stopped or something. “Makes them sweeter. ”
She turned to the right and plucked two more double chocolate cupcakes from the cooling rack. She had already frosted them, but the middles were still warm. “Here are your other two,” she told him cheerfully, handing them to him. “Do you want a bag for them?”
“Uh, no –” Wrecker shook his head, feeling like there was cotton where his brain should be. He couldn’t even use words today, apparently. Maybe this was a bad idea. “I’ve got it. Thanks.”
“Are you alright?” Sophie turned her gaze on him again and he swallowed, trying to ignore the bird or butterfly or whatever was trapped in his rib cage. “You look like you were a million miles away.”
Wrecker felt a slightly warm blush creep up from his neck to his ears. “I…uh, nope.” he cleared his throat and looked back at the twins. “Right here…is the only place I ever wanna be.”
A wisp of blonde hair that had gotten loose from her ponytail fell over her ear, and he wondered if he should brush it away. That was how some people acted, at least in the books Echo liked to read. They always knew what to do, because someone wrote them that way.
Well, that was all fine and good for them, but Wrecker didn’t know what to do. He wasn’t used to this fluttery feeling and he kind of hated it – not the feeling, but not knowing what to do about it. He thought he had plotted out this little plan well enough to carry through but now that he was here –
He handed her the second cupcake before his brain caught up with his hands, and looked quickly toward the cobblestones again, both to search for the little wren and to hide his burning cheeks.
When he finally gathered the courage to look back her way, she was smiling at him. “Me, too,” she agreed.
She unwrapped the cupcake neatly and took a small bite before catching his eyes on her again. This time, she blushed too.
And his big heart nearly stopped all over again.

introducing ⋆ Cassandra 'Cassie' Lewis
Cassie Lewis had always believed that being a demigod would fix her problems – not create more. Developing a chronic insomnia problem at the age of six, Cassie only lasted a few years before she became too much to deal with for her mother, sending her to Camp Half-Blood for the first time. However, even amongst kids just like her she became an outlier, and instead of returning home after the summer, Cassie ran away. She was eleven when she first met Luke Castellan. Two years older, weary, and even more defensive than Cassie was, Luke became something she never imagined she would have; a friend. Together, the two young children tried to survive the world around them, along the way picking up two other demigod children, Thalia and Annabeth. Though, eventually, Cassie grew to care for Thalia and Annabeth in their own right, she never quite loved anyone quite as much as she loved Luke. Perhaps that’s what made it all the more difficult when she began to dream of Luke betraying her. Camp Half-Blood should have been the thing that saved him. A place where Luke could learn about himself, and the Gods, and grow into someone different. Someone who wouldn’t destroy everyone in his path for revenge. She was foolish to think that anyone could avoid their destiny, no matter how terrible.

I may have come across as a prude in my other post about the portrayal of sex in That 90s Show and I want to assure you I am not. I was once a sexually active teen myself who had sexually active friends, but still the way they are so casual about it is extremely unrelatable to me. The characters in That 70s Show were also sexually active sooner or later but their arcs were just so much more relatable and true to life in my opinion. And I think that speaks of a bigger trend of how media has changed.
If you watch old shows from 90s and 00s, they are just overall more innocent and wholesome? Maybe sometimes too innocent (*cough* Gilmore Girls*cough*) but overall they just portray the awkwardness and sweetness of it much better. I know there were some problematic storylines that I am glad were buried since then like the whole student-teacher thing (even though I heard Riverdale did it in 2016?) overall I think those shows portrayed teendom better. Nowadays it seems like everything is for shock value and just to create discourse around the show. Think of Seth and Summer's awkward first time on The OC. Or Kelso and Jackie's/Donna and Eric's bad first times on That 70s Show. Blair's drunken first time with an asshole that she regrets at first on Gossip Girl.
(Obviously there were times when these storylines were too prudish to the point it was unrealistic. Aforementioned Gilmore Girls come to mind where Rory had a two year relationship where the furthest they got was kissing with tongue, Dawson's Creek where Joey pondered for months if she should lose her virginity to her long term boyfriend who she had known her whole life and her dilemma was juxtaposed with Dawson's dilemma about whether to unplug a dying guy from his life support, The Secret Life of American Teenager where Amy got pregnant on her first time and Grace's dad died in a plane crash after hers. Then there was the unhinged moment in One Tree Hill where Haley and Nathan got married in high school to be able to have sex. No I am not talking about these specifically.)
Compare that to how Kat was mocked for being a virgin at *gasp* 16 on Euphoria and told she needs to "catch a dick" so she ends up sleeping with an asshole who records it, puts it on PornHub and makes her famous, which prompts her to start making money by doing porn. She's not the only one from her class too, Maddy, Jules and Cassie are all 16-17 year old girls that also have sex tapes of them. Maddy also casually lost her virginity at 14 to a 40 year old man put she was "totally in control". Jules has been sleeping with random grown men from dating apps since she turned 16. Maddy also jumps into the pool at a party with a college boy and starts having sex with him/pretending to be having sex with him in front of everyone and it's not even the most scandalous thing to happen at that party. See how that seems to be made just for shock value with no substance or attempt at relatability?
It's similar with That 70s Show vs That 90s Show- on the former the characters were sexually active but there was that awkwardness about it whereas on That 90s Show apart from Leia everyone seems super experienced, confident and like they've been having sex for years despite the fact that they are even younger that the characters on That 70s Show. Everyone even found it weird that Leia didn't have a first kiss yet at the age of 15 and took her to the mall to kiss a random guy. I really wish the point of that episode was "don't feel pressured and take your time" but no instead that episode ended with Leia literally forcing herself on a guy while he was working just so she can have her first kiss over with. What kind of message is that sending? That 90s Show characters when it comes to sex seem to have the experience of the average college student, not the average sophomore/junior in high school. Same can be said about Euphoria.
"But teen shows have always pushed the envelope" well yes and the aforementioned Gossip Girl and Skins come to mind but even then, it wasn't just constant meaningless fucking everyone all the time. Similarly to Euphoria, on the first episode of Skins, Tony tells Sid that he needs to lose his virginity ASAP because he's almost 17 and it's "embarrassing". Yet Sid doesn't succumb to the pressure and doesn't do it just because. It is implied he only does it once he is in a relationship with Cassie. And he is not even the only character who is a virgin in that generation, there is also Anwar who also loses it when it feels right not because he is pressured to. Yes there are characters that are sexually active (although it is more over the top than in real life) but also virgins, and that is more true to life than Kat being the only virgin left in the entire high school. I even know some people in 2nd or 3rd year of college who are virgins and that's okay. No one really shames them and tells them that they need to "catch a dick asap" and if someone does then they're an asshole.
However I will say that Never Have I Ever is one new show that did it right.
#teen shows#rant#meta#it's almost like they're normalizing teenagers having sex#which happens but not as much as they're pretending it does#the worst part is when they try to normalize teenagers having sex with older people#so gross

౨ৎ ⋆。˚ Forbidden - Surprise!
Ninth instalment of the forbidden au - lsu!joe x oc
Full AU masterlist here -> ౨ৎ ⋆。˚ Forbidden
Summary: They all take a trip to Miami for Daisy's birthday but when she returns to LSU something unexpected is waiting for her.
⋆。˚ word count: 8.4k
18+ Content. MDNI :). Mentions of drinking, drug use, smoking and sex. ⋆。˚
When Cassie told Daisy to pack a weekend bag for warm weather and dragged her out her cozy dormitory bed at 7 am on Saturday morning, she wasn't sure what she should be preparing for.
The drive to the airport felt suspicious from the start. Cassie kept biting her lips, sunglasses hiding her eyes--Daisy knew her so well that she could tell she was hiding something, that anxiety was whispering on her neck. The radio blasted with a playlist that was so obviously Bella's, she was sitting in the backseat bopping her head like it wasn't ridiculously early.
'Where are we going?' Daisy had tried to ask many times, but the other two girls would just shake it off, holding in their secret like their life depended on it.
'You'll see' That was all they could offer her.
It made Daisy sit back in her seat, arms folded, a pounding heart. She couldn't explain it but something was making her nervous. She hadn't planned for this, not really. She was expecting New Orleans for a night, like last year, or a cake but not TSA. She hated her birthday, the symbol that she's getting older and losing her youth. She always cried, it was a day when she couldn't stop herself from reflecting on the things she could have done differently, how at every turn she could have done something greater with her life but she didn't. Birthday's stung.
Cassie parked the car, and the girls dragged their suitcases from the back. Strolling into the airport.
Inside was chaos - long security lines, the noise of squeaky suitcase wheels, stressed voices lapping in every direction. The air smelled like all airports did.
'Okay, we need to go to gate 32' Cassie told her, and Daisy looked at the boards above them. Miami. Of course it was Miami. Cassie was from Miami and over the summer they spent a few weeks there, Daisy almost felt stupid for not guessing it sooner. She spun on her feet to look at Cassie and Bella, who met her gaze with bright smiles.
'Surprise!'
Daisy rushed into them, wrapping her arms around the pair of shoulders. Jumping up and down in excitement. Miami was just what she needed, a few days away from everything with her girls. Away from Joe. Communication between them seemed to have gotten quiet since icing his injuries a few days ago. Sure, she had still been sleeping with him but never spending the night. It was like the early days of them all over again. Sex, then leave, sex, then leave. How was it we always take one step forward and then two steps back? Daisy couldn't stop asking herself that question, even though she knew that it was just as much Joe's fault as hers. She asked him to explain how he felt that night she called him, but he couldn't tell her and it had scared him off. She didn't even mean for it to be such a loaded question, it was just a thought of the intimate moment.
The girls made there way to the gate after checking in, all walking together in the matching baby blue sweat set that Cassie had forced them to wear. Daisy was so happy, so excited for her birthday for the first time in a long time.
but then she saw them. saw him.
and the plan for the weekend seemed to shatter right in front of her.
'Second surprise!' Cassie said excitedly, because she didn't understand the complexity between Joe and Daisy. She thought it was black and white, they’re exclusive so that means something more than it actually did. Daisy hadn't even told him about her birthday because she didn't care for him to celebrate her. But now, he was stood in front of her, shifting from foot to foot nervously and waiting to board the plane to her birthday party.
Daisy smiled at Cassie and said 'thanks', putting on a semi-convincing front that she didn't mind that the boys were here. If it was just Justin and Ja'marr she wouldn't have minded, but all three J's--that's a problem.
Too late to do anything about it now.
Daisy let out a deep breath, the best preparation she could make as she walked closer and closer to Joe. He watched her coming over. Joe had never been good at waiting. Not for test results, not for plays on the field and definitely not for girls he had a complicated relationship with. His breaths were short, his ribs still bruised and hurting but the pain was from noticing that Daisy didn't exactly look excited to see him. He'd been acting off with her the past three days and he knew that, but he couldn't stop himself. He was unsure how to act after she asked him what he felt.
He ran one hand through his hair while the other dangled by his side. A heavy backpack slung over his broad shoulders, a wrinkled boarding pass in his back pocket. His hoodie--the one she had been wearing a few days ago--was wrinkled and smelt of her, a comfortable embrace.
'Hey' was all she said as she finally met him.
'Hey' was all Joe could say back.
and just like that, everyone around them understood that maybe bringing the boys on this trip had been a bad idea. They began to understand that for every little thing Daisy and Joe let slip about their arrangement, there was a hundred things that were left unsaid. This will be the last time I plan a surprise trip, Cassie thought as she felt the awkwardness wrap around her like an uncomfortable hug.

The plane journey was average. Daisy wasn't sat near Joe, so that was a relief. The uber to the airbnb was average too. Joe and Daisy didn't speak much, only in short sentences.
When they arrived everyone other than Bella, who had been in charge of the booking, had been shocked. The place sat just off Ocean Drive, tucked behind a line of lazy palm trees which delicately swayed in the light breeze. The front door opened straight into a small sun soaked living room, where sand lived permanently between the floor boards and the air always smelt faintly of sea salt and sunscreen. Pale blue walls reflected the light pouring in from the wide windows, all of them open just enough for the ocean breeze to run through them.
The furniture was lived in and bohemian -- white linen cushions and a coffee table with scattered sea shells. The kitchen was narrow but charming, a slightly latin theme throughout. A bowl of bright lime's sitting on the countertop and a small message on the chalkboard.
'Happy birthday Daisy'
A sweet touch from the caring owners.
There were three bedrooms, two twins rooms and one double bed. Daisy couldn't help but wonder what tonight's sleeping arrangements would be because all three of the girls would happily just sleep in the double bed together.
Daisy continued moving around the house.
The beach stretched just beyond the backyard, all white sand and soft crashing blue waves. A string of lights looped along the edge of the balcony railing and a few lounge chairs faced ocean.
Daisy knew what she wanted to do first.
-౨ৎ ⋆。˚-
Joe wasn't expecting it, he lay on the couch while Justin and Ja'marr watched some television. A lighthearted discussion between all of them about what they thought the night would bring. He hadn't even heard the bedroom door unlock. Hadn't heard her light footsteps making there way to the fridge to grab out some fruit and a drink.
He had seen the way Justin and Ja'marr heads turned on a swivel. Joe sat up and peaked over the back of the couch cushions.
Then he looked back at Justin and Ja'marr with a shocked glare. Ja'marr was holding his nose to stop himself from laughing at Joe. A telepathic conversation happened between the three of them.
'what the fuck, stop staring'
'can't help it'
'what is she doing'
'by the looks of it, getting under your skin'
Joe rolled his eyes and looked at her once again. She bopped side to side to whatever song was playing in her wired headphones. She was chopping up some strawberries and placing them in a container, but he wasn't really focussing on the strawberries.
Daisy had come out of the bedroom in a small cream coloured bikini -- something simple and minimal but on her it looked so much more. The colour made her glowy skin look warmer, sun-kissed and soft in all the places he tried not too stare at. The strings tied into little bows at her hips swayed with her movements and her hair was just laying down in effortless beachy waves.
Maybe it was the sun, or the humidity, or the memory of her hands on his ribs which still danced on his skin like a ghost but seeing her in that kitchen was doing something to him.
He had seen her naked, so many times but this was different. The small triangles of material barely covering her and yet covered enough. Like the bikini was teasing him, triggering the flood of memories of what's beneath but not letting him touch. Her boobs looked perky in the top, and he hadn't even seen her turn around yet. He wasn't sure he wanted her too, not in front of his friends.
He didn't know how long he had been watching her, but it was enough for her to notice. Her sage eyes flickered up to his, just enough to catch him looking. Daisy didn't let her expression change.
'You want some strawberries, Joe?'
Yes. If strawberries are the pink of your lips then yes.
'I'm good' Joe tried to be nonchalant. Ja'marr let out a small laugh, still trying to hold in his bigger one. Joe looked away from Daisy to shoot Ja'marr a scolding glance.
Then he heard her move from the kitchen, so he had to look back.
She walked past the couch and toward to back door.
'I'm heading to the beach, you guys coming?'
She didn't even look at them as she said it. But they were looking at her. The bikini bottoms were cheeky, way too cheeky. Her perfectly sculpted ass only half covered.
'I'll come' Justin said and that made Joe annoyed. Just friends. He repeated it over and over but it wasn't doing much to calm him down.
'We'll all come. Ja'marr grab the football' Joe stood from the couch, grabbing his sunglasses from the table and following behind her. Closely. Close enough that the other boys couldn't see her ass in the tiny bikini.
-౨ৎ ⋆。˚-
Even in November -- the sun was warm and high in the clear blue skies. A hard heat bounced off the soft sand and clung to skin. Salsa music echoed from the speakers of other beachgoers and the little beach bar that was too far down the beach to really see.
Seagulls skimmed lower over the surf, some people squealed as waves nipped their ankles while others just lay on towels and soaked in the rays of the high UV index. The smell of a bbq floated through the air and dancing through nostrils.
Joe was shirtless, a backwards cap protecting his scalp and black Dior sunglasses protecting his eyes. Sweat licked at his skin as he threw the football lazily at Justin and Ja'marr. Laughter rang around in bursts between them, chased by the pulse of the tide coming in and out beside them. His bare feet sand beneath the sand and every time the boys would miss a pass a small cloud of fine sand would be kicked up around them.
He shifted his weight and readied his arms to throw to Justin who was down beach waiting, but then the ocean gave her back. She been out there swimming for a short while. Making the most of the blue waters while she had them.
She emerged from the water like a scene from baywatch. Like something from his dreams, walking slow like she wasn't ready to rejoin the world on the beach. The sea and sun glittered behind her.
The now wet cream bikini clung to her skin even more. Droplets of water ran down her toned torso, arms and legs--it was like the ocean was reluctant to let her go, clinging for her to come back. She ran her hand through her wet hair, slicking it back and it clung to her skin. Her hands adjusted the bikini top, pulling it down and making sure everything was in place. All attention directed to her bouncing chest.
Was the world crashing around everyone else, or was it just him? Joe thought.
Daisy looked up from the ocean floor. She met his eyes, because she knew he would be looking. That's why she chose this bikini. One of her smallest. Joe looked good, so good. In the backwards cap she always loved on him. Salt clung to her skin, her lips and her lashes but she didn't think that was the reason she felt dehydrated.
Joe's skin was already warming up from the sun, even if they had only been here on the beach for an hour or so. His muscles looked even more sculpted in the Miami light. The small droplets of sweat dripping down his back. It made heat rise over her body. Something magnetic pulling her out of the water and towards him.
He was smiling at her as she began a light jog over to him. His eyes unapologetically trailing her up and down, she knew that even past his sunglasses.
'Can I join in?' She asked him sweetly, looking up at him through fluttering eyelashes.
'Sure, throw it to Justin' Joe handed over the football, looking at the way she was slightly breathless, her chest rising and her dark her gripping to her shoulders. He let his eyes flickers down her body once again for only a second, she still noticed it though. She seemed to notice everything he did.
He took a step back, behind her, as she readied her throw. Her stance, the way she held the ball. She'd done this before, that was obvious. He didn't even need to correct her. She let the ball fly from her arm, it wasn't a powerful cannon but it was pretty good. Much better than he was expecting, and she somehow managed to find Justin down the beach albeit the catch was sloppy.
'Shit.' Ja'marr said. 'That was nice, texas'
She bowed jokingly, but Joe wasn't finding it very funny.
Justin threw the ball back to her and she caught it, letting out an oof sound as it hit her with a force she wasn't expecting. She stumbled back a little bit, until she hit the hardness of Joe's chest. He placed a hand on her waist to steady her, holding her just in front of him.
'Where'd you learn to ball like that' Ja'marr asked her from the side he was standing. Daisy shrugged her shoulders, not really wanting to give an answer out of fear that it crumble to few steps her and Joe had taken to get back on track since they arrived in Miami.
'C'mon, don't be shy now' Ja'marr teased.
'Lucas.' Daisy said, not looking at him. She felt Joe's grip on her waist tighten ever so slightly and his chest tense.
Joe already knew the answer to Ja'marr's question, he just didn't want to hear her say it out loud. He didn't want to hear that all the parts of his life that were usually sacred and special, she had shared with another. When she came to watch him play was she comparing him to Lucas? When she threw that football she was using the technique Lucas taught her, was she thinking about the first time she did it? Was she thinking about her and Lucas as teenagers under the Austin sun, his hands on her skin guiding her arms? That made Joe tense, made a jealousy bubbling under his skin. Nothing about him or his life was special to her, and maybe it all just felt like deja vu. Maybe, she couldn't even separate Joe from Lucan and she was only with him because he could provide her with that comfortable familiarity.
He let his hand drop from her waist.
'I'm gonna go swim for a bit, then head back to the house'
With that, he was gone. Not even sparing her a glance, instead running away from the feelings. He needed to cool down and the luke warm water of the atlantic ocean was able to do just that. He would be fine in a few hours, ready to celebrate at the club but for now he just needed to drift in the waves and be alone.
Daisy went back to the house.
She needed to nap or something, anything to just stop the feeling in her chest from overcoming her.

The dual sink bathroom of the airbnb was too small for the three girls and all their opinions, but that didn't stop them.
Laughter spilled out into the hallway, tangled with the smell of sweet jasmine perfume and coconut body lotion. The counter tops were an explosion of open compacts, lip gloss and makeup stained bags. Jewellery scattered around on the floor, as did old outfits they had decided not to wear.
This bathroom was a sanctuary. A space they were free to just be without the boys near by.
Daisy stood in front of the light up mirror, her tight dress already clinging to her skin. It was a short, leopard print number which fit the atmosphere of Miami perfectly. Her skin was warm from the sun she had caught before, glowing bronze where her collarbones caught the light. A faint tan line under the straps on her dress. Her hair had been straightened, laying sleekly down her back. Gone where the salt kissed waves she had been wearing all day.
Cassie perched on the toilet seat, leaning forward into the mirror of her eyeshadow palette and brushing bronzer across her cheeks. Her legs bouncing in time as Spanish music played from Bella's crusty speaker. She sang along in perfect fluency. She rarely spoke spanish, only when she was in Miami or with her mom's side of the family. They were Ruerto Rican. Not that Cassie had the dark Latina looks, but she did have the big brown eyes. She was wearing a sparkly light pink dress which made her look like a barbie doll.
Bella hovered near the bathroom door, focussing as she applied her false eyelashes. She's curled her hair tonight, she never usually did that. Her dress was short, black and lacy. Her golden hoops capturing the light every time she moved even slightly.
Cans of white claw littered the counter tops also, the perks of having Joe be over 21. He would be buying most of their drinks tonight, but the girls knew the places they would be able to get into with their fake ID's all too well.
Outside the bathroom window, the sky was dim -- pale and soft blues. It spilled through the blinds in a way that made everything seem cinematic, like a scene from a coming of age film. Daisy's last night being nineteen. At midnight, that would change and her teenage years were memories she could never relive.
Come midnight, came a new era for her. The roaring 20's. That's what Bella kept calling them.
A knock at the bathroom door made all their heads turn.
'WHAT' Bella grumbled over the music.
'How long you guys gonna take?' Justin asked, hesitantly, like he knew he was poking the bears caged within the bathroom walls.
'Thirty minutes' Bella told him.
'Then another thirty for pictures and more drinks' Cassie added.
They could almost hear Justin's eye roll.
'We're getting bored out here' He groans.
'Just go. We'll meet you there, and I want some alone time with the girls' Daisy told him through the closed door, and she meant it. She wanted to just be alone with her best friends, celebrate her birthday the way they usually did. Even last year, she banished Lucas from joining her--they were in a big fight as new rumours of him cheating had made there way to her ears.
Justin let out a sigh, like he was annoyed that she didn't want them here. Daisy for a moment felt guilty, but Justin was sighing for a completely different reason, one Daisy couldn't even begin to understand. He was angry at Joe. He always seemed to be these days. When he heard they were exclusive, he cursed the universe. In April, only four and a half months away, Joe would be drafted first pick to the Cincinnati Bengals, and he would leave college. He would leave Daisy. There was no exceptions to that, no way that it could be changed, it was the reality of the universe. Why would he have done something so irresponsible? Why would he set himself up to break her heart? Did he even care about her at all, or was he so selfish that he cared about his own happiness more? They didn't have a future together, not one that would ever work out in the next few years.
Did Joe plan on leaving his hectic football schedule to come and visit Daisy on LSU's campus every other week? Did he plan on lingering around the frat parties she and the girls would be attending? She had two years of college left. He had the NFL right in front of him. There paths were facing opposite directions and it was immature of them to believe that the outcome would be anything other than slow and painful heartbreak. But of course they weren't even thinking about that, both of them were far to stubborn to admit that this thing between them was more than sex, that it was heart racing, bone shattering feelings that they weren't used to having.
'No worries, we'll head'
and they did. The boys left the beach house and made there way to the club and the girls continued to get ready in their peaceful and protected sanctuary.
-౨ৎ ⋆。˚-
The uber rolled to a slow stop along the curb that seemed to buzz with static energy. The club appeared in front of them glowing like it was alive. It was chaotic but somehow organised. A crush of bodies in barely there outfits, heavy fake tan, blown out hair and heeled shoes stumbled on top of the concrete. Smoke curled around from the cigarettes and vaped that found themselves in young people's hands.
The club itself -- espíritu -- was modern but gritty, glass and steel was softened by the neon signs and the soft swaying of lush green palm trees all around. From inside, the heavy sound of Spanish reggae and edm music spilled out onto the streets and into the queue of people waiting for entry. The bass felt like a heartbeat between Daisy's feet, making her stomach flutter. She knew what kind of night this was going to be. When the boys left, the girls had over drank. The clock had hit midnight and Daisy hit the big 2 0. One too many cheers to her teenage years and now they were facing them consequences. Over excited and slightly slurring their words. She almost tripped out of the uber before she pulled herself together, brushing the fabric of the tight dress down her thighs and smoothing her hair from the nighttime breeze that caught itself between her brunette strands.
The moment the girls made it through the queue and into the jaws of the club, the air around them seemed to shift to something more sleazy. Heat crawled and clung to her like a second skin -- thick and immediate, the kind that radiated from the club walls and came from the dance floor in waves. The place smelled like sweet rum and sharp citrus, cologne and coconut, smoke and sex. A scent of the lives being lived in the building. The smell would linger on their clothes long after they left tonight.
Inside, the Spanish reggae hit even harder. Vibrating up from the floor into the girls heels, then to their spines infecting them with the unavoidable desire to move their hips. They had completely forgotten they were meant to be meeting the three J's here, they were such minor thoughts in their drunken minds. They just wanted to have fun, a girls night, it should have always just been a girls celebration and Cassie couldn't help but kick herself for inviting them.
The lights inside were low and hot, a sea of red and orange flashes with the occasional streak of violet. Smoke machines added to the ambience also, or maybe it was the steam of the packed bodies that rose in the atmosphere around them. Everything was cast in a kind of mystical light -- faces half lit, hands swinging in the air.
A DJ booth sat elevated at the very back of the room, but the speaker system made sure everyone could hear the songs.
Cassie and Bella melted into the crowd in front of Daisy as they dragged her in, laughing away with tossed back heads. Cassie hitting every rhythm of the songs and speaking sweet spanish lyrics. Bella and Daisy swayed their hips also. Safaera by Bad Bunny was the current song, a popular one. The dance floor was so hot, bodies pressed together, all shimmering in body glitter and heat. The beat caught all their waist and didn't want to let go. Bella twirled Daisy and held her hand as they danced closely together. Cassie was twirling on her own regard. From her movements it was clear she had missed Miami, no club in Louisiana could even come close to what was experienced inside the four walls of a Miami club. Maybe, the three of them missed this. In this moment, as just the three of them found themselves free of any other thoughts than a good time they were drawn back to summer. When Cassie and Daisy were freshly heartbroken and Bella was Bella. The three of them against everything. That was the best summer of their lives, and even in their young age they knew there wouldn't be a one to top it. The stories of summer would be told to their grandchildren.
They could live in them memories for tonight, just until the three star football players noticed them in the crowd and inevitable came over.
Joe, Justin and Ja'marr stood looking over the railing of the clubs more elevated area, each of them sipping on a pungent rum and coke. They had been waiting at least forty minutes for the girls to arrive and they were starting to give up hope. The idea of leaving the place and going somewhere else had been discussed, but they settled on the decision to stay out of fear the girls would never forgive them.
Joe sipped the last mouthful then placed the empty cup on a nearby table, wiping the liquor from the corners of his mouth. His eyes darted the crowd, trying to see her. He didn't even know what she was wearing, they had left before they came out the bathroom. He hadn't spoke to her since the afternoon on the beach when he overreacted to her muttering her ex boyfriends name and found himself trapped in the maze of his own insecurities. He'd fucked up. He knew it. He needed to apologise and clear the air for whatever the past couple days had been between them. Just as he was thinking Justin pulled him away.
'I see em' He outstretched his arm and pointed to some blurred figured in the thick of the crowded dance floor. Joe followed his friends arm and saw her, them. All three of them dancing away intensely with sloppy grins and sparkling eyes. Joe had never seen Daisy look so happy and carefree. He thought he had, but seeing her now, like this he knew he hadn't. He watched as her hands stretched above her head, one of them intertwined with Bella's and they bopped along to the thick pulsating bass of the music.
Joe couldn't help it, he knew he shouldn't but he had to capture the moment. He pulled out his phone and recorded them for a few seconds zooming in a little bit. He then sent it to Daisy, not that she would open it now but he hoped it would be nice for her to look at when she woke up in the morning. When he did so, he realised that it had been passed midnight and that it was officially her birthday, the one she hadn't told him about. That still made him feel like shit.
'Let's get them some drinks and join em'
The bar was packed but being a big name athlete had it's perks even in Miami, free drinks and first served was always a plus. The boys pushed there way through the crowd, some people parted for them like Joe was Moses. The floor was splashing with orange and violet lights, her hair was straight and loose, she was glowing like she had been carved out of the golden sun itself. She moved with a reckless softness, head moving from side to side and that smile drawn upon her sweet face.
Joe's breath caught.
Seeing her fully for the first time since the beach, in more clothes but somehow she's still having the same impact on him. Maybe it wasn't just her body he was enjoying these days, it was something deeper. The whole soul, every small part of her. No. Joe told himself. You can't. He can't. His hand gripped around the vodka cranberry in his hand, his palms sweating against the black plastic.
Leopard print looked divine on her tanned skin.
Daisy felt them coming, like some part of her body existed only to detect when Joe was near. Perhaps a magnet lodged itself in the crevices of her chest, deep under the skin. If it was a compass, Joe was North. She turned and saw him. He was wearing a baby blue polo shirt and some dark wash jeans, nike trainers on his feet like always. He had sunglasses on as well, even in the dark club. His hair was sloppy, like he had spent countless minutes running his big hands through it. Joe looked like a statue carved by the ancient greek civilisations, something you only ever saw in museums.
She couldn't blame the drink tonight, because even though she was drunk, she knew that if she was sober she would be thinking the same thing--Joe was the most handsome man she had ever laid her eyes upon. No one, nothing could compare. Not to him.
Joe watched as she found him through the crowd. Her smile flickered--not gone, not dimmed, just....something changed. Something shifted, her eyes darkened. Like the air between them snapped. He felt it and he knew she did too.
He walked towards her like it meant nothing, but it somehow meant everything. He wanted to say so much. You are dangerous. You look like a mistake I'd never regret making. You look like home, and heat, and whatever the hell has been missing from me my whole life.
But, he swallowed it.
'Happy birthday, Dais' was all he could muster as she stood in front of him. They were a sudden stillness in the crowd of moving bodies. He pushed the drink to her. She grabbed it. Their hands brushing with a tint of electricity, enough to make him wince. She downed the whole thing, throwing it to the ground with a crumple. Then she smiled.
'Thanks, Joey' She was intoxicated, more intoxicated than Joe was used to seeing.
He grabbed her waist and pulled her in so she was pressed against his chest. Then, he leaned into her ear while brushing a strand of hair back behind it.
'I'm sorry, for the beach, for the past few days. I don't know what I'm doing in this, with us' He struggled to articulate exactly what he was feeling, like his throat was gripping onto his words and refusing to let them fly free. Daisy understands. She never thought Joe was capable of saying sorry, she didn't think he had the emotional intelligence to comprehend that the small things he did, like leaving her on the beach, were enough to destroy her. It was also reassuring to know that he too felt the past few days between them had been so off and uncomfortable, like they were dangling in a rotten limbo neither of them knew how to escape.
'I don't know either' Daisy told him.
That was true. Daisy didn't have a single fucking clue what she was doing, all she knew was that Joe made her feel so alive. Like she was living rather than surviving. Her whole past relationship it felt like she was just making it day to day, how many days could she and Lucas survive without an argument, without a scandalous rumour--without hating each other. Joe never felt like that, she couldn't ever imagine hating him in any context that wasn't lo--No. Daisy told herself. You can't. She can't, can she?
Joe pulled back and looked at her. She was his mirror. Wide eyed with a stark realisation washing over her flushed face. His hand cradled her neck and he can't do it anymore. He can't resist. He kisses her with a furious passion, one that she reciprocates. They were like starved animals, needing the fix of flesh. Her hand run through his hair as the world around her disappears. The noise of the music numbs to a simple ringing in the background. Kissing him felt like screaming off a cliff. Kissing him felt like driving with the top down. Kissing him felt like freedom. Kissing him felt like breathing. Kissing him felt like everything, everywhere, all at once.
His hand cupped her ass in the short dress and that made her gasp, his tongue sliding in. Everything he couldn't bring himself to say was pouring out into their locked lips. She tasted like tequila and cranberry, that was his new favourite flavour.
When they pulled apart, the world still felt silent. She looked up at him, breathless, sage doe eyes so soft under the strobe lights. Her stained lips puffy and parted like she was trying to say something, but nothing came out. Just the quiet rise and fall of her breath, beating too fast to be anything close to casual.
The racing heart clattering against the cage of his ribs wasn't anything close to casual either.

The rest of the night was a blur of drinking and kissing and grinding. Joe couldn't keep away from her all night. His hands constantly on her waist. He held her in the uber back, her tired head laying lazily of his shoulder. When they got back, they took the double bed. Joe carrying her in and placing her gently on the fluffy duvet like he was scared he would break her. He pulled off her heels, and wiped off her makeup to the best of his ability as she wriggled underneath him, a fit of drunken giggles.
'It tickles joseph' she would say. Usually he hated when people called him that, but when the slipped through her drunken lips it sounded like it had been sent directly from heaven.
'Stay still' he laughed trying to make her stay in place as his open palmed her skin with the rough drag of a makeup wipe. So much force, but so little pay off. The makeup barely budged.
'You're doing it wrong' She complained.
'It's wiping, how is there a wrong way'
'Ask yourself' She huffed as she sat up and looked in the mirror on the wall seeing her makeup smudged rather than removed. She bit her lip to stop the smile. He was trying. Trying because he knew she hated the feeling off dry makeup on her skin in the morning. She looked around the room trying to avoid the heat of his gaze, because he was staring. He always stared, he never realised it though.
Something shiny caught her eye, hidden beside the white closet doors but still poking through. She rushed off the bed before Joe could stop her, pulling open the doors with a severe force. The glittery pink gift bag dropped to the floor and so did the two wrapped presents and the gift note.
'Dais-'
She ignored him with her drunken jaw ajar in shock. She bent over, still in the short leopard print dress Joe didn't want to take off her. Shaky hands placing themselves on the note.
'It's nothin--just--uh'
She read the note.
Dear Daisy.
One reminded me of you.
One is something you need.
Happy birthday, I hope it's a special one.
-- joey x
She read it over and over. Joe sat and watched, his foot tapping on the wooden floor as anticipation of her reaction got the better of his usually poised demeanour. She couldn't quite believe it, he had bought her gifts, presents...birthday presents. That felt heavy, and important. Serious and scary, she didn't know what to do.
'You can write?' She settled on a joke, she had never been the best as receiving presents, and she had never been given a note like this before. She felt both awkward and eternally grateful. Both warm and frozen.
'Ha. Ha.' Joe responded sarcastically. He was thankful she joked, he didn't know how to tackle a serious conversation. He wasn't even sure if he was going to give her the gifts, he thought about just keeping them hidden and smuggling them back to Louisiana. But, they found her. Fate had taken them from him and gifted them too her.
'Can I open them?'
'Yeah, the flat one first and then the circular one' He instructed.
Daisy picked up the flat package wrapped poorly in white starry paper. NEED written in bold letters on the front of it. Her fingers hesitated to open it, it wasn't weighty or anything-- in fact, it was light and airy. She gave it a quiet shake, no rattling answered back. She slid her nail underneath one of the half taped corners and peeled it back slowly, the sound of tearing low in the space between them. Once the first tear was done she relaxed and made another more frantic and less careless one. She was desperate to see what was inside. What did she need? Other than Joe, she had no clue.
The fourth tear revealed all.
A white LSU jersey with a number nine and Burrow written in purple across the back. She held it up blocking Joe's face and looked at it.
'You like it?' She could hear the smugness in his voice, like his anxiety had been replaced by his usual arrogance. She dropped the shirt from her hands and looked at him with bright eyes and a cocked head.
'I guess'
Joe chuckled rubbing his hand against his jaw, slightly nodding his head.
'You can wear it next game'
'What makes you think I'll be there'
'Because you like watching me play' Joe said. 'and I want you there, in that.'
'Hmm, I'll have to check my schedule. See if i'm free' Daisy pretended to be thinking about all the plans she didn't have.
'Uh huh, open the next one' Joe didn't entertain her. She would be there, he knew she would be under the disguise that it was for Justin and it being his last season of college ball. She would never admit it was because she wanted to be close to Joe.
Daisy picked up the next present. It was soft and squishy, abhorrently wrapped but it was the effort that mattered. REMINDER OF YOU scribbled on the front. That made her stomach flip. Joe had seen something and had instantly thought of her. Joe was thinking about her when she wasn't around, in the low points of his busy days. In the darkness of his bedroom at night when all that seeped through was the pale moonlight. In the moments when she lay beside him peacefully sleeping and radiating a comforting warm from her soft skin.
She pulled the wrapping paper apart. When she saw what was inside she let out a small gasp.
A fluffy grey jellycat bunny with floppy ears and a pink nose.
'Oh my god!' She clutched it to her chest hugging it and looking up to Joe in shock. This was how he saw her, a little bunny rabbit. Something so innocent and cuddly, that was how he thought about her. This gift was the most exposing thing Joe had ever done, a ticket to the inside of his mind, a small glimpse at the things he thought about her.
'It's just a bunny, nothin' crazy' Joe tried to play it off like it was something regular and mundane but it wasn't. He didn't really buy his ex girlfriend gifts, but with Daisy it was like he couldn't imagine not giving her something.
'I love it, thank you.' Daisy's eyes traced the bunny with adoration, almost as if it was something mystical, an object brought to her from the fantasyland in her mind.
'You're welcome, cub'
The nickname from halloween croaked out of his throat like a forgotten caress. It make a prickly heat rise through her already drunken flushed cheeks.
'I'll sleep with him every night'
'him?' Joe furrowed his brows and looked at the little grey ball of fluff in her hands. 'Should I be jealous?'
'You're always jealous' She teased back.
Joe just rolled his eyes and tutted.
'sleep time, Dais-'

The hall was quiet in the late Monday night -- soft lights overhead, bulletin boards half covered with faded flyers, the subtle sound of someones playlist coming through the sticker covered doors. Joe and Daisy walked side by side, brushing shoulders as he rolled her suitcase behind him. His hoodie clung over her shoulders and her grey bunny was clung in her arm.
Last night they had come back from Miami and she had went straight to Joe's place, intertwining herself with his body and feeling him deep inside, pleasure filled moans escaping from her bitten lips. Then they did it again, all day in fact but she needed to come back to her dorm to get some studying done and he offered to walk with her. That was the first time he had offered to walk her back to her place from his own. She couldn't lie and say it didn't make her tender heart swell.
They turned a sharp corner towards her room, their steps perfectly in sync as they laughed about something Ja'marr had done in Miami. Some people who were straggling by in the halls noticed them and looked on with wide eyes. Joe Burrow was walking their halls with Daisy Moore. Joe Burrow was dating? He couldn't be dating, he's Joe Burrow. The pair of them paid it no attention, too caught up in their own little world and the high of Miami.
As they approached her door Daisy's brows furrowed as she noticed something off. Joe followed to where she was looking.
There in front of her door was an extravagant bouquet of flowers. Wrapped in navy blue tissue paper which was a stark contrast to the white, pink, purple and yellow flowers. Daisy looked at Joe confused, he shook his head silently letting her know they hadn't come from him. Daisy's first thought was her father, across the pond in London but he had sent her money and a phone call like always. Her mother didn't ever gift flowers, she believed they were a waste of money. Carson? Flowers would be a first from him and they wouldn't have come wrapped in navy blue.
Daisy's steps slowed while Joe's stopped. She bent down and picked up the folded note that peaked out through the leaves. Joe didn't move, his hands stayed deep in his hoodie pocket.
Daisy unfolded the card with delicate care, and though she didn't say anything, Joe watched her posture change. Her back twitching with tension and her face becoming more harsh and set. She didn't seem happy, she seemed almost sad. Was it empathy written across her face, that's what it seemed like.
From the first letter written on the card in deep harsh blue ink, Daisy knew who it was from.
Dukes.
I'm sorry i'm such a shitty person.
but know i always want you to be happy.
whoever you spent it with
I hope your birthday was everything you deserve and more.
love you always,
Lucas.
Her chest tightened like someone had wrapped tape around it.
He had been here, he had come. He had been at her doorstep and she was in Miami.
Her eyes danced over the slightly wilting flowers. A combination of lilies, orchids, tulips and a few daisies sprinkled in the gaps. All her favourites.
He must have come on Saturday. The edges were beginning brown and the stems were beginning to flop. A comical representation of their love, no longer fresh, dying but still something beautiful.
She picked them up and tuck a step back, folding the card and tucking it into the pocket of her sweatpants.
Joe watched her do this, he studied the way her hands gripped onto the stems of the bouquet too tightly and how each movement was no longer loose and relaxed but stiff.
'Who are they from?' He already knew, he just wanted to see if she would tell him.
'Lucas' She let out in a breathe, then she flipped her head over her shoulder and looked at him with worry filled eyes.
Joe gave her a tight lipped nod.
'What did the note say?'
'That he's sorry he's a bad person--' She seems to get choked up. 'an--and that he always wants me to be happy no matter who it's with'
Nice guy. Joe's sarcastic internal monologue spat as he tried to control the jealousy that simmered hotly.
'You going to call him?' He asked not really wanting to know the answer. His mind running on the conversation he had with Carson a couple weeks back. Daisy could go back to him, if she thought he had changed. She had loved him once, for so many years, she could do it again. Joe's insecurity yelled through him, so deep rooted in his bones but he refused to let himself run this time, not like he did on the beach. He would stay and listen.
Daisy's eyes looked back at the flowers.
Then at the door.
Then at Joe.
The green of her iris' was soft and stormy. A conflict playing out within them.
'No'
and just like that every muscle in Joe's body released.
He followed behind as Daisy unlocked her door, finger moving shakily against the worn brass handle. The soft glow of her fairy lights numbed the sharpness of the emotions between them. Stack of textbooks littered her small desk, her fluffy robe hung over the back of the chair, empty coffee cups lined the bedside table like a confession of her academic stress. She placed the flowers down on Cassie's more clear desk top--she was staying in Miami for a few extra day visiting her family.
Joe moved to lay on her floral bed sheets, he rarely stayed here. Cassie was always around so it was just easier to stay at the fraternity. He tried not to glare at the flowers too much but his eyes kept trailing back to them. Why now? Daisy was his girl, but people didn't know that, only their close circle of six and maybe a few other boys at the fraternity or on the team.
Daisy noticed him watching the wilting petals and gave him a tired smile. She didn't know how she would cope if Joe's ex had left him a bouquet and a note saying they will always love him on his doorstep but she imagined Joe was responding better than she would.
She appreciated that he wasn't getting angry or annoyed, that he wasn't running away because whether he liked it or not Lucas was always going to be a large chunk of her life. A part of her. Even if he didn't really know her anymore and she didn't know if she ever really knew the real him.
She paced over the where he was lying and squeezed in beside him in the single bed. Joe started playing with her hair as they lay in a peaceful silence. It wasn't awkward, more like suspended. Something was hanging between them by a loose thread and it seemed like it was about to fall.
'you asked me how i felt, that night I came and got you--'
Daisy's ears perked, and Joe hesitated.
'I was worried, scared even--that something might happen to you that I wouldn't be able to protect you from. My heart was beating so fuckin' fast I thought it was going to burst before I could get to you. It killed me to think about you in that bathroom stall, alone, unsafe. It killed me to think about you crying, to think about your fear. and when we got back I couldn't bring myself to drop you back here because I wanted you to feel safe and I feel safest with you so I just--I just thought that maybe you felt safest with me'
Joe couldn't say anymore because the lips of Daisy pressed firmly against his own. A slow but hard, tender kiss.
At long last, feelings were spoken.
Cracks were beginning to form in the walls around the facade of meaningless sex and no strings attached.
Cracks that could never be repaired.
