✍🏻
Send me an ✍🏻️ and I will introduce you to one of my OC’s
Okay so! I have the Warden of the West AU where Elayna ends up becoming the Warden regent (?) after a civil war in the Westerlands
In this AU, Elayna ends up friends with Alaryc Lefford. Their relationship is 1000% surrogate family because they meet not long after Alon dies. Alaryc had lost his daughter years ago, but Elayna reminds him of his daughter, and Alaryc steps into the role of father figure to Elayna. It's absolutely a grief bond that morphs into Alaryc being Elayna's surrogate dad and Elayna being his surrogate daughter. It's also not helped that Alaryc and Alon basically grew up together so Alaryc sees it as his duty to make sure Elayna survives
Alaryc ends up becoming Elayna's right hand man because he's one of the few people Elayna trusts. Tyland is probably the only person she trusts more than Alaryc. They would both die for each other. Tyland also trusts Alaryc, and before the events of the series, Alaryc was one of Tyland’s advisors, mostly the one who's job it was to give it to Tyland straight lmao
Alaryc is very like Mike from Breaking Bad. Alaryc is a man who knows he's done bad things in his life and will continue to do bad things, and he knows that's just his cross to bear. He lost his daughter and one son in a horrifically violent way, which shaped him a lot as a person. He doesn't talk about it a lot but it's fucked up
He's not the head of the Leffords because he was the second son, but he is the oldest. Alaryc's brother died but had heirs by that point, and Alaryc didn't particularly want to contest it. Especially since by that point he had lost his children and was way more focused on finding who killed them. He does a lot within the Lefford family so it's not like he abandons them. He's just not as interested as he used to be
Alaryc is a fantastic swordsman, probably one of the best of the time period. That's part of why he's supposed to watch Elayna after Alon's death. The other part is Alon kinda wanted to give Alaryc a purpose not grief centered

Okay so this snippet is from the Warden of the West AU for Elayna I've been talking about. Gonna put it under a cut because it's a little long
The sound of clashing metal makes her look up again. Ryman ducks a swing from Josiah Payne. Instead of popping back up, Ryman moves forward. No doubt he'd trying to use the moment to tackle Josiah and knock him down to the ground. Josiah steps aside at the last moment.
Ryman hits the ground. Elayna and Josiah wince in unison. Ryman rolls over onto his back. His chest heaves. No blood is visible, only wounded pride.
“Get up.”
Alaryc's voice rings out like a bell. Ryman nods. He only disobeyed Alaryc once during training. He never made the mistake again. He plants one elbow and then the other. He attempts to press up to sitting but collapses in on himself like a Lannister's non-existent spine.
“Get. Up.”
Ryman tries once more. This time, he manages to get his upper back entirely off the ground before going limp.
“Ryman. Get up.”
This time, the order falls from Elayna’s lips. She didn't realize she'd grabbed the railing until she looks down. None of the men firm below seem particularly surprised to hear her. Alaryc doesn't even bother to look up at her. Ryman takes a deep breath.
Ryman manages to sit all the way up. He stops at the top, once his back is off the ground. Josiah reaches out. He helps Ryman to his feet. Once on his feet, Ryman turns to look at Elayna. She nods, once, in approval.
Later tonight, when they dine, Elayna will express her admiration of him and how proud she is. She'll make sure he has no marks beyond superficial scrapes and maybe some nasty bruising. As she does this, Ryman will laugh at her stories about the rampant stupidity of people and talk her through her problems. They will be family in that moment with all the ups and downs that come with it.
In this moment, they cannot be family. They can be a united front, but they cannot be related. To be related is a death sentence, a signal of weakness others willingly.
So Elayna nods her approval, once. Ryman keeps his face neutral in response
Hey. Use this post to showcase what you're working on. Reblog this with a snippet or one-word sentence about or from any work-in-progress (WIP). Include a link to the work so people can find it. Written or visual art.
Let's show a little love & support for our artists on here!

I think it's important y'all know. As soon as Alaryc realizes Elayna is into Jaenna, he makes it his mission to ensure Jaenna won't die. That includes training Jaenna because lmao Alaryc is like... 50? 60? And one of the best sword fighters around so he knows what he's doing
But he knows if he directly tells Jaenna she's gonna get offended, which means tricking her into it. It's not until Jaenna is several months in to learning to fight with her non dominant hand that she realizes this. But her pride is tied up so she can't call Alaryc out on it because she'll look like she's giving up because it's too hard
Jaenna seethes for two months straight. Elayna commiserate because Alaryc did the same to her

Behind the scene facts
Send me 🌞 through ask and I will answer you with some interesting facts or canons from my finished stories.
Hmmm. You know, I don't think I have any finished stories other than one shots? Uuuuhhhh
Leena ends up disappearing not too long after the events of Covetness.
Send me ⭐ and I will answer you with some interesting facts or canons from stories I'm writing right now
Okay so! From my Warden of the West!Elayna fic, here's some fun little tidbits
Alaryc Lefford, who's Elayna’s adopted dad- I mean, right hand man, lost one of his sons in the Stepstones. His son was a Goldcloak who decided to follow Daemon to the Stepstones. He also lost his only daughter, which is why he takes Elayna under his wing
There's a good several month period, I haven't decided how long, between the event that truly kicks off the civil war and the official first battle of the war. In this time period, Tyland does bring up the possibility he could marry Elayna. However, the offer never makes it to the Reynes because of other parties
Alon would have actually accepted the betrothal because a) it would have avoided a war, b) he knows Tyland would never hurt Elayna, and c) it would have gotten Elayna as far as it could from Casterly Rock. Elayna would have been scared at first, but if the events played out that way, she would have come to love him
Send me ✨ to know something more about main characters from my fics.
I've kinda alluded to it, but I've never actually specified what Alon's illness is. Alon dies from lung cancer. This is the same across all the AUs. Honestly Alon dying is a canonical timeline event oops
Elayna is absolutely bi, leaning towards more of an interest in women. The exceptions are Aemond and Tyland

You have to understand. Even though Elayna and Alaryc have a father-daughter type bond, and they're both acutely aware of the fact that they were both using the other to fill that role, but they're both firmly in denial that they act like a father and daughter

Seven Sentence Sunday. Or, more accurately, short scene Sunday in my case
Thank you for the tag @selfproclaimedunicorn !
Have a little scene from my Warden of the West Elayna AU. I've only had Alaryc for about a week, but he's one of my favorite OCs already
"House Lefford swore an oath to House Reyne. Not to you. I follow Elayna. If she bends the knee to Aegon, I will. If she decides bend the knee to Rhaenyra, I will too." Alaryc looks Aemond in the eyes as he speaks. His voice stays measured and even. Somehow, despite his calm and almost placid demeanour, his words feel ominous.
Aemond tilts his head ever so slightly to the side.
"Are you threatening me?"
Alaryc shakes his head. "No. I'm letting you know where I stand." Alaryc stops. He eyes Aemond, inspects him. Aemond stares back at him. His knuckles turn white as his fingers dig into his forearms. Alaryc finishes his quiet assessment. He turns back to look out at the sea.

If you’re still doing the ask game!
🌹
for every "🌹" received in my inbox i'll post one random sentence of a random WIP i'm currently writing
For you Karrde? Of course
Alaryc Lefford carries himself with the air of a man who has done terrible deeds in his life and who has resigned himself to committing more violence.

Listen Alaryc is not the found family's Dad. He's only a father figure to Elayna but only because he's a replacement for her dead dad! And Elayna is only a daughter figure to Alaryc because she's a replacement for his dead daughter! They're both fucked up by grief and they both know this and know they'll never be the person they're supposed to replace, which means they both love the other like family and resent them because they're not actually the person they want to bring back from the dead!!!

So. I've got:
Elayna: The Web. No question about that in my mind. She's so scared of being manipulated/manipulative and having no free will but also. She excels at manipulating people and using people. She's also Spiral and Slaughter touched
Revna Bolton: The Flesh. Babygirl is specifically "Tale of the Boneturner" coded. She would collect her victim's bones and stuff them into her own body. Revna just likes playing with people's guts okay
Sigfrid Bolton: The Stranger. Like, no one really knows who he is, and he kinda doesn't know himself. He's able to mask and change himself based on the circumstances. Which. Revna probably only knows who he is because she has a piece of his skin before he fully succumbed as an Avatar oops
Alaryc Lefford: The Slaughter. He's one of the best swordsman in the Westerlands and like. His life is plagued with a lot of violence. Literally everything he touches ends violently. And like, he's a tired old man but knows war is his life despite him very much not wanting that
Ryman Reyne: Ugh I hate this but he's a Lonely Avatar who's Slaughter touched. The only person in the world Ryman feels like he has is Elayna. And like, he knows Elayna is a Web Avatar, so there's always that thought in the back of his mind he means nothing to Elayna and she's just keeping him around to use him. He doesn't know how much Elayna fights to keep him out of the Lonely
Aemond/Jaenna Targaryen: DESOLATION. I mean, Targs are super Desolation coded because dragons and fire but lbr. Both Aemond and Jaenna are capable of burning everything down to the ground
Tymon Lannister: SPIRAL. No question. Tymon is actually delusional. He absolutely has no hold on reality and distorts everything to his advantage
What if I gave the full list of who would be Avatar of what for my Magnus Archive AU

I'm gonna be honest. I do think Elayna has accidentally called Alaryc her father once or twice, but Alaryc called Elayna his daughter when he was defending her. Like "Don't speak to my daughter like that" type deal. Thankfully, the situation was so charged no one noticed until later
You have to understand. Even though Elayna and Alaryc have a father-daughter type bond, and they're both acutely aware of the fact that they were both using the other to fill that role, but they're both firmly in denial that they act like a father and daughter
