Please welcome Professor Finneas C. Dewlap to my cast of dnd guys, I played my first session with him tonight and he's very fun!

Cranky old fuck. Died in a freak lab accident because his recently divorced now-ex husband wasn't there to revivify him this time. Still figuring out his look, but his face is something like this, lmao

The terrific herpeton

after sharing my idea of a vigilante centered rewrite of mha, I've decided to celebrate the traction the idea has gained by making a bio of it's main character herpeton. So without further ado here it is!

appearance: herpeton appears as a huge reptilian creature with a long tail 3 times his body length, a crocodile like head, telescopic eyes, a third eye, an inflatable dewlap, retractable teeth coated in iron, a green forked tongue. As a civilian he walks on two legs and has his tail retracted. He also has a brown and yellow color pattern similar to a nile monitor lizard. His vigilante appearance is quadrupedal with his tail out and has his baseline color pattern is green with purple stripes. His costume his a set of skin-tight, polychromatic trousers.

personality: Despite his monsterous appearance, rui is a very understanding and approachable person. He tries to help people even out of costume by trying to get through to those with problems in their lives. That being said, he does know when to put his foot down when the situation calls for it. He is also quite a quippy person, often spouting dad jokes during fights to to throw off opponents and ease tension. Overall his personality combines the comedic sass of spider man with the dorky boyscout energy of superman.

Mezo Shoji/tentacole: ruis best friend and the first person to figure out herpetons identity.

Hitoshi shinso: formerly an enemy of herpeton, the two are on much better terms nowadays.

Tamashi karito/reaper:(oc made by Hypno_Mha, search that name on instragram and you should them, I'm not really good a posting links on mobile devices, sorry) a fellow vigilante that is in support class at ua who works with herpeton evey now and then.

Yuri merei/duppy: (made by pathosketch, search that name on instagram or reddit and you'll find them)a foreign student from britain who is in class 1 a. Orginally they butted heads with their idealogies, but after getting to know each other better, they eventually got into a relationship after the my villain academia arc.

izuku midoriya/dekiru: the second student to learn ruis secret. They have fought side by side against various villains like professor wolfram, iron will, and the maestro.

kaoruko awata/bubble girl: ruis homeroom teacher who he gets along well with.

anon kurose/thirteen: ruis sciemce teacher as well as his personal favorite teacher.

Principal nezu: uas principal and a benefactor of herpeton.

Rikiya yotsubashi: ceo of dternerat and supplies hereton with his support gear in hopes that herpeton will help spread his message that quirks should be integrated into society in more ways than just heroics.

Shinjiro hohoemi/mr smiley: a grafitti artist who paints art condemning the misdeeds of pro heroes, herpeton acted as a bodyguard for him at one point.

Daruma ujiko/umon: this universe equivalent to the usj nomu. A petty crook who was mutated by dr garaki into a multi quirked monstrosity that was created to destroy herpeton. He ultimately went rogue and teamed up with herpeton before seeking refuge at ua.

Eri hassaikai: a little girl who was rescued from the hassaikai group by herpeton, she now lives a quiet and happy life with ruis surrigate dad, icarus pipistrello.

Louise reginald/ghoulian: a villain who could merge and remold any house she came in contact with. She became a villain to feed her and her homeless brothers. She was discovered by herpeton and was taken in with brother by ua, where she currently lives.

The malefactor: a group of villains recruited by the meastro to take revange against herpeton, they hwoever eventually turned on the maestro and helped herpeton defeat him in the mva arc, before turning their lives around for the better.

Kugo sakamata: a pro hero who apporves of herpeotns work and knows about the hpsc's misdeeds through his enhanced hearing.

Enemies

The maestro: a psychic gorilla with a serious power trip, the maestro once took advantage of herpeton and tried to to frame him. The two have been bitter enemies ever since.

Kirai jujigun/dreadknight: the leader of an anti mutant cult that killed ruis parents, he and his cronies were caught and defeated by herpeton.

Emiko hantan/anonymous: a villain who can shapeshift into any heteromorph shes seen before. She tried to frame herpeton but accidentally oversteppednher time limit when fighting him and is now stuck looking like herpeton permenantly.

lonnie roman/iron will: a quirkless inventor who created a mech suit that mimicked the 7 quirks of one for all in hopes of coercing dekiru into handing it over to him. Was intercepted by herpeton.

Mirai sasaki/sir nighteye: president of the hpsc. He has tried to assasinate herpeton more times that I can count. Was exposed and sent to prison after the mva arc.

Kyudai garaki: the hpscs leading scientist who created the nomu. Was exposed and arrested by umon and nezu.

Keigo takami/hawks: last number one hero before the ranking are removed. Has sent to kill herpeton multiple times, but was eventually exposed and arrested by gang orca.

Rumi usagiyama/mirko: a pro hero that herpeton cant stand due to her jackass atitude and violent tendencies

Takashi merei/phantom:(created by pathosketch) britains number 1 hero and father of yuri. Herpeton was appalled by how his "training" gace yuri a myriad of scars and generally was uneased by him raising her to only think about being a pro hero( dont believe me? Pathosketch has had art where we see said scars, and in another post it was said that she barely has any real hobbies. Thats... depply concerning, you've got some explaining to do phantom.) Oh and also phantom tends to act as a judge jury and executioner with villains which grinds hepretons biliverdin laced gear to no end.

Enji todoroki/endeavor: do i even need to say anything at this point? This is fucking endeavor we're talking about.

Trivia

Rui, as an adult,owns a bar known as the dragons den which has real reptiles and amphibians form across the world in that are unable to be released into the wild.

Rui hosts a herpetology themed trivia game show at his new bar.

Date nights with yuri mostly consist of rui going on long autistic rambles about the unusual features of quirk that yuri likes listening to because of her fascination with quirks.

Rui is mildly autistic

Rui is asexual heteromantic, so nothing but hugs and adorkable wholesomeness with his relationship.

Rui talks to pidgeons when hes bored.

Rui has a fondness for sock puppets.

Rui was able to barely outrun boombox(evil present mic who was mind controlled by the maestro during the mva arc) sonic YEAAAAH by running at speeds of mach 1.1

4. What’s a hobby they used to have that they miss?

Mark: Video games ): He hasn’t had the means for a long time, but maybe he’ll finally get to get back into gaming since Tuck bought him that little SNES classic for christmas…

Kenny: Baking. The kitchen in his apartment is terrible, and also his wrist is still in a cast so that limits the amount of dough kneading one can do, and also he hasn’t. Uh. Been going to the weekly friend dinners where he would bring the things he would make anyway,

Sloane: Weightlifting. It’s gotten really hard since she lost most of the coordination in her left arm. You think she’s built like a brick now, you should have seen her when she was hitting the gym seven days a week.

37. What’s a secret they haven’t told serious romantic partners and don’t plan to tell?

Mark: He wishes he didn’t have to share his partner with anyone else.

Kenny: He always told her everything. Keeping secrets on purpose isn’t something he started doing until after she died.

Sloane: The curse on her arm will kill her sooner or later.

55. What’s something they’re expected to enjoy based on their hobbies / profession that they actually dislike / hate?

Mark: You’d think birdwatching would be a slam dunk for him (quiet outdoor activities that involve spotting things with sharply attuned predator eyes) but he really couldn’t give two shits what kind of exceptionally rare animal that brown puffball over there actually is.

Kenny: He looks like a man who should be way into golf. He is a man who detests golf.

Sloane: She loves her car way too much but not enough to get her really into mechanics. If anything ever goes wrong with her beloved SUV Patty Bouvier she is not fixing that herself, she has someone she specifically pays to do that for her.

19. What would they do if stuck in a room with the person they’ve been avoiding?

Professor Dewlap: Leave by any means necessary, even if that means blowing a hole in the wall or chugging an untested potion that turns him into a swarm of bees

20. Who do they like as a person but hate their work? Vice versa, whose work do they like but don’t like the person?

Professor Dewlap: I don’t know if he actually “likes” anyone. He does, however, deeply respect the breakthroughs in healing magic thanks to his greatly beloathed ex husband Dr. Phizzlepop Topper.

22. What simple activity that most people do / can do scares your character?

Mark: Talk to strangers

Kenny: Open doors when they don’t already know what’s on the other side

Sloane: Admit being afraid of something

Professor Dewlap: Admit personal shortcomings

Maggie: It hasn’t learned fear yet. Someday! 👍

52. Do they act on their immediate emotions, or do they wait for the facts before acting?

Mark: All of his decisions are driven by fight or flight

Kenny: Sometimes the facts get drowned out by his own mistaken perceptions, but he at least still stops to consider before acting. Usually.

Sloane: Act first, patch the hole later.

Professor Dewlap: Decisions based on emotions are how you get things like “art” and “poetry.” No thank you.

Maggie: Observe, assess, then act. Emotions make everything so confusing!

what's professor dewlap's canon situation? I know he blew himself up but is this a resurrection/undead type situation or are y'all doing an afterlife thing

it's a quasi-afterlife situation! every member of our party died pre-campaign, but are currently in a city between life and death because it "wasn't our time yet." there's a tower at the center of the city that we have to climb to return to our bodies, but it's full of DnD-Type Challenges that we have to complete in order to prove ourselves worthy of returning to life.

dewlap died suddenly in a freak lab accident while trying to develop an elixir of eternal life; he had actually died in several other freak lab accidents before, but those times he had his now-ex husband on standby to revivify him.

but now that they're divorced, that explosion killed his ass and he actually died for real lmao

A) Why are you excited about this character? Mark: I've had him since 2007 and he is my specialest boy Sloane: Dream woman Kenny: What if we took a sweet kind uncle man and cracked him open like a geode Dewlap: Never had a tabletop guy who was an absolute asshole before !

B) What inspired you to create them? Mark: Uuuuuuuh well I made him for a spies/secret agents RP when I was 13 Sloane: Dream woman Kenny: He was a haunting-the-narrative bit character in his previous iteration and there were some interesting ideas there that I wanted to explore when I got the chance to play him as a full fledged player character! Dewlap: He came to me in a flash of divine inspiration after watching an episode of futurama

C) Did you have trouble figuring out where they fit in their own story? Mark: No, he was pretty natural for me to follow the threads of the implications of what his deal is. Sloane: A bit, but mostly because my design process with her was so aesthetics-first. I just need to play her more! Kenny: At first! But since being able to explore his history and relationships, it's all fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. Dewlap: Yes and no. I made him specifically for the campaign he's in, so there was already some groundwork set with the setting, but also I didn't have a solid backstory for him until like the week of the first session lmao sorry sid

D) Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look? Mark: well he had blue hair when I made him originally. And then I made him blonde. And then I gave him glasses. And then I made him a dog Sloane: She's always pretty much looked the same, maybe I've made her jaw a little squarer and shoulders broader each time I've drawn her Kenny: He's looked like a completely different guy every time I've drawn him RIP Dewlap: Still figuring out what he looks like, so jury's still out

E) Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you? Mark: Yeah, I think we could chill in an alone-together kind of situation. Sloane: She might actually annoy me a lot, but it's fine, I can only hope she thinks I'm funny Kenny: The running bits we would do together at the dinner table would drive anyone mad ���👍 Dewlap: No he sucks

F) What do you feel when you think of your OC (pride, excitement, frustration, etc)? Mark: YIPPEE Sloane: lust Kenny: clamping him in my jaws and shaking him Dewlap: entertainment

G) What trait of theirs bothers you the most? Mark: Not big on thinking through his actions Sloane: Contrarian Kenny: Willful ignorance Dewlap: [gestures at all of him]

H) What trait do you admire most? Mark: Loyalty Sloane: Big arms Kenny: Genuinely interested in the goings on of others Dewlap: Kooky cartoon character coded

I) Do you prefer to keep them in their canon universe? Mark: No. Spiderverse his ass Sloane: She's my go-to when making characters in video games and tabletop oneshots, so she's already been everywhere Kenny: I've toyed with putting him in a fallout AU, but so much of what i find compelling about him is his relationships to other people's player characters, so he's hard to adapt to other universes. Dewlap: I'll probably AU him eventually, but I've barely scratched the surface of his canon universe.

J) Did you have to manipulate or exclude canon factors to allow them to create their character? Mark: He’s been through so many iterations that there's always something to tweak or adjust to get him where i want him. For example, I rewrote the mechanics of his curse and the nature of his bad relationship with his Ex, among other things Sloane: I guess she started out a Lot more gruff? I made her a lot more of a jokester in the end because she needed to be charismatic enough for my players’ characters at the time to want to work with her. Kenny: A Lot of him! The only things i really kept between his previous iteration and his current one was his name, age, occupation, daughter, and the fact that he got trapped in a parallel dimension at some point. Dewlap: Nah, he started off as a pretty blank slate so I've really only been building onto him rather than editing him.

I answered a bunch of questions from this list for Mark, Sloane, Kenny, and Dewlap! This is part 1 of 2, I will post the second half whenever it's done.

1. What’s the maximum amount of time your character can sit still with nothing to do?

Mark: If it’s just him and his thoughts, like ten minutes tops before he’s fidgeted with something so hard he broke it.

Sloane: When she’s off duty, aaaaaaaall evening baby

Kenny: At least five years

Dewlap: There’s ALWAYS something to do.

2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?

Mark: Very hard. Even before The Horrors he was never really the mirthful type. But if you see the corners of his mouth twitch you know you got him good

Sloane: Pretty easy. One of life’s pleasures that come free.

Kenny: Effortless!

Dewlap: Genuine laughs are rare. Maniacal laughs are a dime a dozen.

3. How do they put themselves to bed at night (reading, singing, thinking?)

Mark: Thinking. Overthinking. Still overthinking. Ah fuck the sun is rising already

Sloane: Lies down. If she’s off duty she’s out like a light. If she’s on call she just stares at the ceiling wishing she could turn off for once.

Kenny: He tries to have a tv or radio on low volume nearby before he lies down. The sound of human voices is comforting.

Dewlap: Stewing/ruminating/considering/plotting (this is DIFFERENT from overthinking)

4. How easy is it to earn their trust?

Mark: Contrary to popular belief, not actually that difficult– It just happens on a time scale that is not compatible with the effort most people are willing to put in.

Sloane: Actions speak louder than words. A handful of actions that prove your trustworthiness and she’s got your back.

Kenny: Most people are trustworthy until proven otherwise.

Dewlap: Demonstrate how useful you are to him and then maybe he’ll listen.

5. How easy is it to earn their mistrust?

Mark: Like tipping over a single domino.

Sloane: Again. A handful of actions to prove one’s character.

Kenny: Pretty hard. It takes a catastrophe.

Dewlap: Pretty easy. One fuckup can destroy years of work.

6. Do they consider laws flexible, or immovable?

Mark: Some laws exist for a good reason. Some laws he follows because breaking them is a good way to get caught. Some laws he ignores because who’s going to notice?

Sloane: A law is only as good as far as you can bend it.

Kenny: He knows they’re flexible, but he tries his best to follow them when he can.

Dewlap: The laws of the land can kiss his ass, but the laws of physics are what killed him

7. What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling?

Mark: Anything he used to do with his brother. Camping, video games, road trips, among other things. It’s a bittersweet sort of feeling.

Sloane: Mountains on the horizon, someone’s feet on the passenger dashboard. Just a sore reminder of what was taken away.

Kenny: Old photos, songs that used to play on the radio. It’s a comfort, even if it’s not possible anymore.

Dewlap: Everything he looks back on is steeped in bitterness. Forward is better.

8. What were they told to stop/start doing most often as a child

Mark: Stop crying

Sloane: Stop sneaking out at night

Kenny: Stop reading and go spend time with kids your age

Dewlap: Stop calling your teachers stupid

9. Do they swear? Do they remember their first swear word?

Mark: Practically every other word. His first swear was probably something extremely tame like “crap” or “damn” that he nevertheless got extremely embarrassed about having uttered in front of a teacher or parent

Sloane: Like a sailor. She was probably swearing before she could walk.

Kenny: Not often, but not afraid to unleash a well-timed “well SHIT”. Doesn’t remember his first swear word, but he’s forgotten a lot of things, so,

Dewlap: Constantly, abrasively, and creatively. He’ll use words at you that are in no way supposed to be profane but you will still feel like you’ve been shot through the heart.

10. What lie do they most frequently remember telling? Does it haunt them?

Mark: “I’m fine.”

Sloane: “Everything is going to be okay. I know how to get us out of here.”

Kenny: “I’ll explain when you’re older.”

Dewlap: “Yes, my work is ethical.”

11. How do they cope with confusion (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc)?

Mark: “Sorry, what?”

Sloane: Stares with a lightly furrowed brow.

Kenny: Smiling and nodding, until he eventually needs to ask for repetition.

Dewlap: Pretends he knows exactly what is going on. He can’t get caught not knowing something!

12. How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach?

Mark: Scratch with his hind legs or lie on the floor and wriggle around (but only if no one is looking)

Sloane: That thing bears do where they scratch their back against a tree trunk

Kenny: Back scratcher???

Dewlap: Make his homunculus servant scratch it for him

13. What color do they think they look best in? Do they actually look best in that color?

Mark: Neutrals. (He looks really good in jewel tones but he’d never believe you)

Sloane: Dark neutrals, olive green, rusty red. They bring out the natural colors of her hair and eyes, but she could stand to experiment more.

Kenny: Mustards, mauves, silvers. He’s right!

Dewlap: He’s never once thought about what colors actually look good on him. His PPE and lab wear comes in whatever color it happens to be.

14. What animal do they fear most?

Mark: Venomous spiders

Sloane: Bison

Kenny: Not a big fan of dogs

Dewlap: Anything that could trample him

15. How do they speak? Is what they say usually thought of on the spot, or do they rehearse it in their mind first?

Mark: He’s never sure of what he’s saying, even if he’s mulled it over before speaking. He’s an expert in talking himself around in awkward circles.

Sloane: Direct as a taxi taking traffic detours.

Kenny: Quick and a bit flighty. Has to get everything out quickly, but the haste makes him stumble on his words.

Dewlap: Anything he thinks to say is worth being said.

16. What makes their stomach turn?

Mark: Chemical and/or rotting scents. He’s also prone to motion sickness.

Sloane: Very little, she’s got a strong constitution. Rotten food will make her gag though.

Kenny: Biting into something and getting The Bad Texture

Dewlap: Saccharine kindness

17. Are they easily embarrassed?

Mark: Statistically speaking he’s embarrassed about something as I type this

Sloane: Hell no

Kenny: Within reason.

Dewlap: Barely

18. What embarrasses them?

Mark: Existing, being perceived, being acknowledged, etc etc

Sloane: The “finding out” part of fucking around. Sometimes.

Kenny: Accidental social faux pas, especially if it was something he was unaware of in the moment.

Dewlap: Being upstaged by someone he thought was beneath him.

19. What is their favorite number?

Mark: …???????

Sloane: 69

Kenny: Oh, what a fun question! Let’s see, well, oh, any number? Alright, hm! My favorite number… My favorite number…

Dewlap: He just grunts and resumes his work rather than answer the question.

20. If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do so?

Mark: [thousand yard stare] “Um…”

Sloane: It’s all the same to her.

Kenny: He’d try to explain, but he’d have trouble articulating it. He just knows that they’re all distinct. And that he craves all of them.

Dewlap: Romantic love ends in heartbreak. Platonic love ends with a whimper. Familial love lives far past its prime.

21. Why do they get up in the morning?

Mark: Work, mostly. Also spending time with Tuck.

Sloane: There’s someone out there who needs her.

Kenny: To be near his loved ones.

Dewlap: To inch ever closer to a breakthrough.

22. How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)?

Mark: Seething anger that might result in snapping jaws.

Sloane: Disgust and/or insubordination

Kenny: Indignance.

Dewlap: A deeply bitter drive to be better than them.

23. How does envy manifest itself in them (they take what they want, they become resentful, etc)?

These are all the same as the previous question

24. Is sex something that they’re comfortable speaking about? To whom?

Mark: You need to work your way up to Mark Trust Level 6 to even think about talking about that with him.

Sloane: Sure, but only around people who aren’t going to be weird about her choice in partners.

Kenny: The fact that he has a biological daughter implies that canonically he’s fucked at least once but he prefers to leave it at that.

Dewlap: It’s just something people do, no need to wring hands about it.

25. What are their thoughts on marriage?

Mark: Used to think he’d get married one day, is now unconvinced it’s worth it.

Sloane: Hell no.

Kenny: He loved it, while it lasted. He could probably never capture that feeling again, though.

Dewlap: Been there, divorced that. Glad to be done with the whole ordeal.

26. What is their preferred mode of transportation?

Mark: Walkin’

Sloane: Driving her big stupid SUV

Kenny: Driving his little toyota prius

Dewlap: Teleportation spells

27. What causes them to feel dread?

Mark: A mistake that can’t be walked back

Sloane: An unwinnable scenario

Kenny: Isolation

Dewlap: Creeping insecurity

28. Would they prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth?

Mark: Any day.

Sloane: No. Give it to her straight.

Kenny: Absolutely.

29. Do they usually live up to their own ideals?

Mark: He gave up on that awhile ago.

Sloane: She tries her best, but even she knows she’s not infallible.

Kenny: From his perspective, at least.

Dewlap: No. He’s constantly chasing it.

30. Who do they most regret meeting?

Mark: His ex.

Sloane: Everett.

Kenny: Right now? Tuck.

Dewlap: Death

31. Who are they the most glad to have met?

Mark: Tuck.

Sloane: Diane Fishwoman.

Kenny: Alice. For better or worse.

Dewlap: Fleet and Aspen. Finally, SOMEONE with their head on their shoulders in this god befucked place–

32. Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke?

Mark: No. He’s no good at storytelling, anyway.

Sloane: She likes to make up stories about things that have happened to her on previous missions. She’s told a few of the fake ones enough times that they could reasonably have happened.

Kenny: [cracks open his vast mental tome of anecdotes and dad jokes]

Dewlap: No, and if he did, you absolutely would not enjoy hearing it

33. Could they be considered lazy?

Mark: He never gets anything done, but it’s more out of being paralyzed with anxiety than laziness.

Sloane: On her days off, probably.

Kenny: Heavens, no. He puts so much work into clinging onto what he has.

Dewlap: Absolutely the fuck not.

34. How hard is it for them to shake a sense of guilt?

Mark: It will consume him.

Sloane: Moderately. It is what it is.

Kenny: It’s clung to him like a tick.

Mark: Every romance he’s ever been a part of has been something he tripped and fell into.

Sloane: She’s never really been interested enough to seek it out. She insists up and down that what she has going on with Diane Fishwoman is NOT ROMANCE

Kenny: He was always the big-hearted romantic type, but just couldn’t work up the desire to find it again after his wife passed.

Dewlap: Homoerotic academic rivalry or nothing.

Mark: No, but he should find one. He's really bad at it.

Sloane: No, because she's naturally really good at it.

Kenny: He always has a weird mnemonic or word association to remember things by. Most of them only make sense to him.

Dewlap: Lists and charts, if it's important. Otherwise, fuck em.

Mark: They're all he sees in the mirror.

Sloane: She's just as fucked as everyone else.
