Hehehe ok really now! Since you didn't specify which OC/s I will present to you, a general list for them all!

Mentions of eating animals below

Coastal and Oceanic mers are omnivores. They eat fish, shellfish, kelp, plants by the shore, seagrass and such. Coastal mers are more harvesters and eat less fish and more kelp while Oceanic are hunters and eat more fish. Merry is a coastal mer so they eat lots of kelp, seagrass and shellfish. :)

Cetus and Tide are carnivores, so they eat primarily meat/fish. Tide still eats whatever, because his metabolism is higher than normal due to being very active for a Leviathan. He'll eat kelp (some kelp he'll eat just for the taste) if there's nothing else, even if he doesn't get anything out of it. Plus he just likes eating in general (hates being hungry) and is always curious to try something new (he did loot ships transporting food for some time). Cetus is much pickier. If he had a choice he'd only eat cetaceans. But alas, the humans decide his diet for him. So he has to settle with more fish and red meat (sheep, cow, pig etc) with only the occasional whale.

Alvin is a carnivore too. Nagas are opportunistic so he'll eat anything he can get hold of. Boar, moose, deer, bear, fish, cow all's good. As he currently lives on a ranch, he's guarding the rancher's animals as part of an agreement. So now he mostly eats the domesticated animals he's rationed, with the odd predator that attempts to hunt the animals he's guarding. :)

Like all Saehls, Runt is a piscivore and mainly eats fish, shellfish, octopus and crustaceans. He can eat certain vegetables and fruits/berries too (like melon, banana, blueberries, pumpkins) but the nutrients he needs comes from fish! He's very happy to have some human food too (as long as it's rice or oatmeal based and thus safe).

Elmer is an omnivore and he can eat whatever's available, like a human can. Before he was sealed, he'd hunt giant elks native to the area or any other large game. But if the hunting failed, or the winter was particularly bad, he'd eat tree bark or branches. These are things he can't really digest but it filled an achingly empty stomach. He also ate honeycombs (think the entire nest) or plucked fruit from trees.

Coby became a carnivore after being infused with alien DNA (poor thing was a vegetarian before :,)). Any and all meat is acceptable and needed to keep his instincts from taking over.

Pyrra's species eats lots of grains, fruits & vegetables, seeds & nuts, fungi, eggs and insects. Meanwhile Erzikas has a similar diet, but with more fish and less grains. Thurior eats more meat, vegetables and grains! Her species also digest lactose very well, so dairy products is a staple in their diet.

Keiki is opportunistic too and will eat any giant sea creatures like sea serpents, fish, cetaceans, crustaceans etc. He'll also eat any Titanik fruits/vegetation he can reach from the shore. And he'll also eat ocean magic currents, basically magic. Magic fuels him for a lot longer than other foods. :)

Hilda, Frida, Alfredo, Archer, dr. Pugh, Brian, Jonathan, Alice, Magdaleine, Taniel, Amelia and Samuel are all humans. So they have a human diet. Lots of variations tho as they live in different timeperiods, cultures, lifestyles and worlds. And have different allergies and intolerances. But that's just too specific to get into.

Birdie (borrower) eats whatever she can get, but she's got a sweet tooth. If she aquires a toffee then that's what she'll eat the next couple of days. Who needs the food pyramid

Erzikas happens to have a very convenient ability for handling giant babies; Manifestation magic, Avatar subcategory!

Erzikas is a slayer dangit! This is not what they signed up for. But gotta by boss' order... Meanwhile Frida is insanely jealous over the interaction. She wanna squish the bebe face too. Bebe is now named Keiki.

Does baby Keiki wake up at night frequently or his he past that point. And how is he comforted when he’s crying?

Aaah he wakes a few times. And when he does, someone better be around because he's in the separation anxiety stage. And he's also teething so it's hard being baby Keiki. xD;

How they deal with crying depends on what the reason is and which crew members are available! They usually have Erzikas comfort him if he's really distressed because they have Avatar magic (the giant magic hands). The Avatar hands can give more physical comfort like massages, a hand for him to grab on to and such.

Frida and a few others try to comfort him by singing to him, entertain/distract by making funny sounds or expressions etc. Or create flashy magical illusions for him to marvel at. :3

Is baby Keiki curious of other ships and what does the babysitting crew do if he approaches the other ships. Does he want to see the cities and what does he think of them.

How do townspeople react if they ever do see him?

Baby Keiki doesn't want to stray from the ship because of the separation anxiety. So he wouldn't swim away in favour of other ships or to go city exploring unless some of the crew was there. So if he did approach a ship it'd be under control and "approved" by the crew.

Townspeople in port cities where the crew often visit, have grown quite accustomed to seeing Keiki. Either he's by the docks or in the river. He hasn't had a bad experience in a city, and the crew are always happy to be in one, so he's happy too and enjoys the visits. :3

As for the townsfolk, since he's always accompanied by some of the crew, they aren't too concerned with him being there. Some wants to interact with him too. Of course, there's always the fearful bunch that mutter about his presence. But even the nay-sayers doesn't say too much because the group is a very renowned one. So they gotta have the giant mer under wraps right?

Most of the times. He did swim into a river and enter a city, very much unplanned, once however. He was crying for Erzikas, who had business in the city, to come back and he was utterly unconsolable by the others. It worked in his favour tho because Erzikas did come running. His cries were hard to ignore afterall. xD

Hot takes part 4

Keiki would love goldfish. Of course, if he could human otherwise, he’d pour the whole container in his mouth.

Snuffy (hopefully I got that bean’s name right) has tail patterns like a cat. When it’s high and pointed forward, he’s alert, but happy to see someone, when it’s twitching at the end, he wants to play.

If Tide could fit in a car, he could sleep in it (depends on if he trusts the people inside with him tho) very easily. Merry can read, write, draw, etc in a car without getting sick.

If Keiki could human in modern times, oh the chaos. The fucking chaos. He has nobody to see his behavior.

Would the Mers get sick from freshwater? I feel like some would.

Frida seems like she’s the parent who would mainly cuddle with Keiki and keep him company, and is like the second most capable of calming him down if he’s crying.

Erzikias is the reluctant parent who can be seen cuddling with the baby and cooing over him twenty minutes.

For a hot second I was thinking of the animal and was... so confused. But the snack, yeh I can imagine him liking the crunch. xD

As cute as the image is, Snuffy sadly doesn't have the same body language as a cat! A dragon's tail don't move very subtly. If his tail is lashing/whipping back and forth, that's agitation or aggression!

Tide would fall asleep in a car (with the right people!), face pressed to the window. And yes! Merry would absolutely be able to do anything in a moving car without getting carsick.

Pfffft at least human Keiki wouldn't cause chaos on such a large scale! xD

In Merry's and Tide's world, mers can adapt to live in either fresh, brackish or salt water! But it's more common for them to stay in a certain type of water/habitat. If a mer that's lived their entire life in the ocean suddenly decides to move into fresh water, they're gonna feel ill for a while as their bodies adjust!

Your hot take on Frida is true! Frida completely coddles Keiki no matter how old/big he gets. When Keiki was young, she could usually get him to calm down. And if she failed, they'd just have to get Erzikas. Who did not sign up for it!!

Erzikas only interacted with baby Keiki because they had to, so they were just reluctant! They do come to genuinely care for him tho. Just not initially! :)

- Frida was the parent Keiki really liked. Sure he needed Erzika’s avatar hands, but Frida parented a lot and was really his mom. To the point where if she were gone for twenty-four hours, he’d start fussing and crying for her as a baby.

- If Tide could hold a Nintendo console, he’d love Mariokart.

- I keep forgetting Merry is 10 feet tall-ish. Meanwhile, I am a 5’3” puny bitch

- Keiki was raised to love Spooky Season, if there is one, because the crew loves it.

Keiki loves all of the crew members, they all care for him in their own way! But for baby Keiki, Erzikas (and by extension their Avatar magic) meant food and comfort so they were the one he cried for a lot. As much as Frida wanted to, her small hands couldn't soothe him if he had an upset stomach. So she and the others had to cover other areas where Erzikas lacked. Like Frida was emotionally present and actively parenting by playing with him and such. So he'd be very clingy if she'd been gone for a while! When he reached toddlerhood he relied a lot more on her. :)

Oh Tide would love it for sure! He'd very likely hit himself with the shells a lot. xD

The mers are mostly tail! But yeah Merry's slightly bigger than the average human. I haven't really put the mers next to humans yet~ :3

While they don't have Halloween as we know it, there's many harvest/autumn holidays across the world and the crew is a mixed bunch. So they have different traditions and how/if they celebrate also differs! But Keiki and some of the members would Love Halloween! :D

(context) Aah it's fine, Keiki loves being squished. The threats fly over their head so they just think "Awh yis squish!" and trill happily at the "affection". :D

Erzikas isn't squishing harshly either. They do as their boss order's them. And if that is "Take care of baby" then that's what they'll do. But they do complain about it. Because due to their magic, they have to deal with Keiki a lot. They're the one that has to stay up all night and soothe, chugging rejuvenation potions (because using their magic is draining!) Again, they were hired to slay beasts. Not rub a giant babie's stomach because the stupid thing overate. xD

🎂- Frida's birthday is in the winter and she will be extremely disappointed if it's not celebrated. We're talking kicked puppy level of sadness. Pyrra's born in spring and she does like throwing a party in celebration, but it's mainly an excuse to get rowdy. Erzikas' species hatches early in the spring, during a period they call Kuzed. So they have a collective celebration that lasts the entire period (roughly a month). Erzikas is very happy to not have to participate in those anymore. Singing? Dancing? Hatchlings?!? No let me fight giant creatures!

💥 - Pyrra doesn't handle sadness very well, she'll do many things to distract herself from it. Some strategies are better than others. Frida is bad with stress, if that's an emotion. She makes bad decisions and kinda stop thinking when stressed. Erzikas is bad with anger. They're prone to do or say things in the heat of the moment.

😨 - Pyrra will fight, she'll turn around and try and punch a dragon on the snout. Frida will have a freeze response. Erzikas' species have a strong flight response, but Erzikas has trained hard to deal with it.

🤥 - All three are actually bad liars. Frida may be able to tell a lie smoothly but then she'll be wracked by her bad conscience and come clean anyways. Erzikas will have a lip twitch going on, specifically the left side. And Pyrra will have very intense eye contact, and clench and unclench her fists, like she's getting ready to fight. xD

Pancake would have to power up enough to have Keiki on his lap to prevent the baby from being grabby with the smaller ones that are not ok with it. Keiki is very happy with this arrangement. While Archer would love to socialize, he's busy keeping Coby calm; Coby would like to be somewhere else entirely because there's too many people of various sizes (Holy shit the purple one is huge and there's stormclouds he doesn't want to get struck by lightning).

Alvin has found a nice perch on Elmer's shoulders. Frida is busy petting and cooing over Runt who's thriving on the attention. Ghost is pestering Erzikas, wondering if they're a small Named, are they a child? But they can do magic? Teach Ghost!!! Erzikas is one poke away from faceplanting Ghost into the ground with their conjured hand. Someone and Sage are chilling. ;)
