(I know the images are crooked but it's my first time making one of these. ^^; Think of it as more the starting points for Cammy rather than what she is now, since she's still evolving!)

From top left down: Mikuru Asahina from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Shiori from The World God Only Knows, Mathis from Virche Evermore, Aoi from Magic-kyun Renaissance, Evelyn from The Mummy, and Cecile from Valmont (1988).

More specific details under the cut!

Mikuru: The reason why a lot of my OCs are so busty and moeblob-y, really. XD I don't dare if my taste is basic, I want more characters like her! Her older self's confidence is also in Cammy's DNA, it just hasn't come to fruition yet.

Shiori: The first librarian! Her initial shyness and her famous hoarse "b-b-bakaaaaa" were what inspired me to have Cammy insult Belial when they first met, though Cammy both used "Wagtail" instead and actually managed to apologize the first time, unlike Shiori. ^^; Her overall demeanor influenced Cammy's initial appeal to Belial, for lack of a better way to put it. Her and many eroge and josei heroines who needed a specific representative on this chart

Mathis: It's hard to describe him without getting into spoilers for his route in Virche, but in short Cammy got his intense devotion and desire to be true to what one wants and who they are despite what others might force upon them. (Same as Shiori, Cecile and the only other guy on this list, really.)

Aoi: The aforementioned second guy with lots of emphasis on "to thine's own self be true". Also he's a struggling writer who finds inspiration in his beloved like Cammy, and can and will infodump about his methods. He's so charming and eccentric I decided Cammy needed to be eccentric too!

Evelyn: SHE...IS A LIBRARIAN. :D That reference aside, Cammy inherited her prim and proper demeanor as well as her determination (which if Cammy ever becomes a Skyfarer will be more obvious). Also her fashion sense, very important.

(That being said, Cammy's loose and low bun is entirely my invention, namely I just thought it fit her better than placing it higher up on her head. Anyway!)

Cecile: My favorite "corrupted innocent", who had her fun being seduced by an older, charming rogue, but whose fate was too realistically bittersweet for my tastes. So while Cammy didn't get her noble status or initial equally-innocent lover, she gets a happier existence on the whole even with similarly-stern parents.

How Valmont (1988) portrayed Cecile being seduced and how she felt afterward really stuck with me, as well. She's horrified not because she hated it, but because she loved having sex, even though she was taught she shouldn't because God Said So. And the narrative never treats her as being damned for feeling pleasure! That's how I want Cammy's corruption to come across, only even happier, because why not.

15) Do you like to talk about your OCs with other people?

yes!!! i like too, a lot. i usually try to be discerning about how much i talk about them, but if prompted & given the direct 'ok' i can literally talk for multiple hours to break down their backstories, plots, and relevant worldbuilding. it's a bit of a curse.

16) Which one of your OCs would be the best at biology (school subject)?

sara. she specifically studies magic biology which places her amongst the likes of zvyezdana (monster-focused) and agata (people-focused). she'd started off studying the anatomy of monsters for the point of slaying them, later garnering interest in the intersection of biology and magics within them which gave her a bit more respect.

17) Any OC OTPs?

yeas... my faves are Cecil/Bartlett, Amelia/Sara, Dahlia/Zvyezdana, and Coelus/Locke. considering how much i draw these guys kissing its not surprising. i just think theyre all terrible and also all in love. and i care them,

18) Any OC crackships?

also yeas... Zvyezdana/Gratian. she wants him so dead its so funny. but also hes sooooooo cute about it.

19) Introduce an OC that means a lot to you (and explain why)

Lavant!! he's my best friend, he's my pal, he's my homeboy, my rotten soldier, my sweet cheese, my good time boy. he was the first npc i'd written for the ocverse and was literally supposed to a cute and charming innkeeper but he ended up being Mr. Instigator of Everything. autism be damned, my boy can work a grill.

20) Do any of your OCs sing?

bartlett can sing but doesn't. his speaking voice is already very soft (volume-wise) so i think the way she'd sing is particularly lilting. its less of a personal choice and more of a leftover inherent trait from being skygod, who, as a giant godsnake, was always accompanied by harmonic singing / reverberating noise.

I made some picrews for my OC’s in my fanfic :)

So I was kinda bored and unmotivated to write... So i got some picrews of all the characters I added myself in this fic :)

idk if this will interest anybody (pobs not) but I’m posting them anyways.

I’m also putting in some extra info abt them like who their parents are. (yes i based them all on REAL fairytale characters :P

I wonder if anyone guessed it? lol

Starting with the frist ‘friend’ we made! Here is Cecile, daughter of Mother Gothel!

Samantha or Sam, her name is a refrence to Frozen 2! Her father is Hanz.

Ivan, son of rasputin from the story Anastasia. (Anastasia is like my favourite story I love it sm and it does not get the recognition it deserves!!!)

Olivia, daughter of Rapunzel and Eugene. (See the earings??? they look exactly like the sun from the movie lol) I suppose yall now kinda get an idea as to why Cecile hates her :P

Syl, daughter of Elsa and Honeymaren (haha ye big Frozen fan here oop-) For those wondering she’s like 5′2 tall and the shortest OC I have.

William or Will, son of prince charming and Cinderella. I’m not sure what I’m gonna do with this one but we’ll see :)

Revie, daughter of Jack Frost (damn i have a thing for ice magic or smth) She’s def one of my personal faves, I def plan to have her come around more in the story :D

And lastly, Rowan son of Bruno (from Encanto because I loved the Bruno song and it is still in my head to this day oof) He only made two short appearances for now but we will see more of him!

12. Start an argument?

Probably Ferris. They wouldn’t be upset or anything though, just trying to pick a fight because it’s funny.

14. Make friends out of strangers?

Cecil FOR SURE. He has definitely gone up to random people because their great aunt or whatever came through (he’s psychic) so he’ll just go up to whomever, talk to them about really personal things, and it’s just normal. He’s very cute and charming so it works for him.

30. Sing in the shower?

Lydia would probably do this which is like, yeah, whatever, but I think when he’s home alone, Adeel does too. He’s usually so shy but when he’s alone he for sure jams to 80s power ballads.

40. Become a good parent?

Oooh…. Ok so I think Austin would be a great dad because he’s already Team Dad. I think Jack and Cecil would be good parents together… 👀 And Lydia, Adeel, and Ferris would be great aunts/uncles (what’s a nonbinary version?? That’s Ferris)

“Jaide intensely stared at the Evil Queen slowly taking the apple from her hand, taking a bite from the poisonous fruit. The Queen watched the girls eyes began to close with her body collapsing on the ground giving her the signal to disappear in a puff of smoke -“

Tessa hit my leg when I paused our bedtime reading. “Keep reading, mama!”

“Okay, okay, calm down missy.” Clearing my throat when I turned the next page we saw Charming and Rumplestilskin standing on a beach with the Dark One holding up a ring. “Now knowing that his true love was in danger, Prince Charming was determined to find her and all he needed was his mothers wedding ring. For that specific ring was now enchanted and would glow the brighter he got near her. “With this, Prince Charming. You will find my daughter.”

The front door opened making me lift my head from the book. Emma had moved all her stuff into our spare room upstairs. Currently me and my daughter were lying on the couch reading. “Hey, sorry I was out late. Graham had me work his night shift.”

“Oh it’s alright. There’s leftovers from dinner in the fridge for you if you’re hungry.”

She hung up her coat and put her keys in the bowl by the front door. “Thanks, Renae.”

“Mama, finish the story.” Tessa poked me in my side.

Seeing how late the clock on the wall read it was already past her bedtime. “Not tonight, bug. You have school tomorrow. So it’s time for bed.”

“But mama!” She whined.

Pointing toward the staircase I closed the book, placing it on the living room table. “Go to bed now, Tessa.” She gave me a sad look going up the stairs but I knew she wouldn’t regret going to sleep now when the morning came.

“So - have you told her about the whole Graham being her father thing yet?” Emma strolled over, sitting down beside me on the couch.

Laying my head back on the furniture I sighed. “Not really. I’m not sure I’m ready to explain to her why her father and I aren’t together. “

“I know I wasn’t used to having Henry around but now I can’t imagine him not being in my life.” Emma slumped her shoulders walking into the kitchen and I followed her, sitting on one of the bar stools at the kitchen island. “You know I can’t get past his crazy theory on who my parents are.”

Leaning my elbows on the island I asked the other blonde. “Yeah. What’s his theory?”

“That my parents put me in a magical wardrobe and set me to this world to save them.”

Grinning ear to ear I couldn’t help but wish our lives were like fairy tales in Henry’s book. “Awe, that’s adorable. Who does he think they are?”

“Well for one. You.” Emma shifted her gaze over to me.

“Me?”

She gave more explanation. “Jaide Stilskin.”

“So that would mean Jaide had two daughters. Tessa and you.” I put the pieces together, tapping my chin in deep thought. “I wonder what Tessa’s fairytale name would be?”

“According to Henry it should be Cecile.”

Knitting my brows together I felt like I had heard that name before. Like I knew I’d picked that name in another life. Either way I liked how it sounded. “That’s pretty.”

“Apparently that book that he found doesn’t exactly have the stories in the most traditional sense.” She heated up her leftovers walking up the stairs and I followed her, opening her bedroom door for her. “Thanks, Renae.”

Sending her a smile I was about to head out the door till I noticed a baby blanket laying inside one of her unpacked boxes. “Your blanket looks like Tessa’s baby blanket.” The name was stitched with the exact same purple yarn which I found to be slightly odd.

“Henry would say that’s because we're supposed to be twin sisters.” Emma said, taking a bite full of food.

Leaning in the doorway I picked up the blanket looking it over. “It would be interesting considering one of you is 28 and the other is only 8 years old. Henry’s right in believing though, sometimes we always should embrace our inner child.”

“Yeah, I agree. Sometimes being an adult or living in reality can suck.” Emma slumped her shoulders watching me lay her blanket down and exiting her room. “Goodnight Renae.”

Pausing outside my daughters bedroom door I peeked inside seeing she was fast asleep, cuddling with her unicorn stuffed animal. “Cecile would’ve been a cute name for you, my sweet girl.”

Hearing thunder clashing outside the castle window I gripped my husband’s hand in mine, struggling through the next round of contractions. “I can’t have these babies now!” The Evil Queen’s curse had descended on our Royal castle right as I went into labor.

“Doc, do something. It’s going to be okay. The wardrobe is almost finished, just hold on.” Doc, one of the dwarfs that had befriended Snow and I followed his instructions, dabbed my forehead with a cloth.

Geppetto enters the room with Prince Charming and I. “It’s ready.”

“ It’s too late. We can’t move her.” Doc shook his head, noticing Charming starting to pick me up to go through with putting me in the wardrobe with the babies.

I wasn’t sure when I had started pushing but I knew it was more painful than what I was expecting it to be. I bared my teeth doing one final push that took the last of my energy that I had left. An infant's cry filled the room where I threw my head back onto the pillows. Gulping a lump down my throat I slowly controlled my breathing while the midwife wrapped the baby in a blanket handing them to me once I had sat up again. "Congratulations my lord my lady, you have a baby girl.”

“Can I hold her - ahh something’s wrong.” I raised my hands and Doc nearly placed the babe in my arms until I suddenly felt another wave of pain crawling inside my body.

“The other baby still inside of you is coming now. You must push.” Doc checked underneath the blanket over my open legs.

Baring my teeth I clutched my eyes tightly closed using the last bit of energy and strength that was left inside my body till suddenly another infant cry filled the chambers. “It’s another girl, Jaide.” Doc declared wrapping the second baby in a similar blanket to the first one’s.

Laying my head against the pillows I attempted to catch my breath as much as I could manage. Charming came over carrying each baby in each arm until he laid the first one down in my lap. “Emma. And that one - she’s Cecile. What do you think?”

“It’s perfect. They’re perfect.” He stared in awe at the infant in his arms. His green eyes shifted back to me making sure I was alright but he saw me crying. “What’s wrong, Jaide?”

“The wardrobe… It only takes one.”

“Then our plan has failed. At least we’re together.” Charming leans forward kissing baby Cecile on her head, coming closer to comfort his other two girls in his life.

Sniffing through tears I realized that I couldn’t let Emma who was declared the Savior to be cursed. I couldn’t let either of my children be cursed. “No. You have to take them. Take the babies to the wardrobe.”

Charming gave me a confused look. “Are you out of your mind?”

“No, it’s the only way. You have to save them.” My voice croaked when I begged my husband.

He begged me to see that this was a bad idea, yet he knew once I made up my mind there was no changing it. “No, no, no. You don’t know what you’re saying.”

“No, I do. We have to believe that they’ll come back for us. We have to give them their best chance.” Sobbing through heavy tears I locked my gaze with his blue eyes. “Trust me. I don’t want to separate our family. I want to raise our daughters. But we can’t let them be cursed alongside us. This is how we protect them from Regina.”

“Actually you can raise one of them and still protect her too.”

My husband and I sharply turned our heads seeing my father standing at the foot of the grand bed. “Papa! How did you escape your prison cell?”

“That doesn’t matter now. We won’t have much longer to protect Cecile from Regina.”

Charming questions the dark one. “Protect her how?”

“May I?” Rumplestilskin held out his open arms and I slowly handed my second born over to my father. He created a small white object and placed it into her hands. “When she wakes up she will be eight years old. The perfect age to still believe in our stories when we can’t remember who we are,”

Charming saw the tiny white elephant object in his daughter's hands. “How does an elephant protect her?”

“It will ensure that she stays with her mother. The mother and daughter bond will remain intact.”

Kissing Emna on her forehead gently I whispered to my father needing to have an answer. “Why cheat the curse and let me raise one of my daughters. Shouldn't they grow up together so Emma isn't alone?”

“Jaide, my dear girl.” Rumplestilskin lets me hold my daughter again waiting for Charming to take baby Emma to safely. “No child should grow up alone. I can't spare little Emma, but I can spare one that fate. I love you.”

“Charming?” I called his name once my father had disappeared leaving us alone. He turns looking at me leaning down kissing me deeply. “I love you.”

“I love you.” My prince whispers against my lips, taking our firstborn daughter out of the room. That would be the last time I saw him until the curse was broken.

Rules for Requests and Commissions!

It’s a little lengthy, so it’s under the cut. If you want to request something or help me out through college with commissions, please read through these~

So, who exactly will you write about?

As this series has many, many characters, here’s the ones that I will write for:

STARISH

Quartet Night

HEAVENS [Nagi is SFW only]

Please note that there are certain exceptions to these rules, but these will be explained further down (see What are the no-no’s for requests/commissions?).

What can I request?

I can write short headcanons and one-shots.

For headcanons, please keep in mind that there are rules to how many characters can be included per request. For Utapri, it’s up to 5 per request (exceptions include requesting all of STARISH or all of HEAVENS)

For one-shots, requests will be shorter than commissioned works, having a maximum of 1000 words.

How many requests will you take?

I will take 15 requests before closing the box. Once I close it, I’ll delete any request received before reopening. Once the box has 5 requests or less, I’ll reopen the box for requests. If you really want me to write something...there’s always commissions!

What can I commission?

I take commissions on longer one-shots! (See also How long can my commission be?)

What do you charge for commissions?

The prices are very simple for my works.

SFW: $0.50 USD for every 100 words

NSFW: $0.75 USD for every 100 words

The baseline is as simple as that! I do have minimums and maximums for word counts you can request, but if you want to know how much you need to pay for a certain amount of words, just use this for reference. I specify lengths of commissions you can request and their respective prices in How long can my commission be?.

How do I request a commission? How do I pay?

You can send in a commission request one of two ways. If you have a Tumblr account, all you have to do is DM me! If you don’t have one or can’t DM, that’s okay! Just send your request to my email, [email protected], and we can work through it there. I strictly work through PayPal for payment. Further details will be given during the commissioning process.

How long can my commission be?

have a minimum of 1000 words for any commission, with a maximum of 6000, in theory.

For simplicity, I have created three “tiers” you can ask for when sending in your request and the respective price ranges for each:

Sprout

Length: 1,000-2,999 words

Price Range: (SFW) $5.00-$14.99 USD, (NSFW) $7.50-$22.49 USD

Bud

Length: 3,000-4,999 words

Price Range: (SFW) $15.00-$24.99 USD, (NSFW) $22.50-$37.49 USD

Length: 5,000-6,000 words

Price Range: (SFW) $25.00-$30.00 USD, (NSFW) $37.50-$45.00 USD

What are the no-no’s for requests/commissions?

While I am open and willing to many types of requests and commissions, there are a few subjects that I refuse to write. It is nothing against the requester. The list of “no-no’s” are simply subjects that I do not feel comfortable with writing about. I ask that you do not send commission requests with any of the following:

Any request involving Nagi is restricted to SFW only

I am willing to write Otoya and Cecil as a platonic pairing, but I will not write any request depicting them as a romantic pairing.

The Ootori brothers have a great dynamic that I would love to write about, BUT I will not write them romantically.

I prefer not to write for the romantic pairing Eiichi x Otoya. It is a very sensitive topic within the fandom regarding this “couple”, and I don’t want to approach it with this platform.

If you have a request involving a reader/OC insert, please specify pronouns and/or gender. I will default to gender-neutral and use they/them pronouns, so if you would like a m!reader or f!reader and/or he/him or she/her used, please specify this in your request (see also Can I request “x Reader” or OCs?).

I will not, under any circumstances, take requests or commissions involving the four letter word starting with R.

Other topics that I will rarely write include harming one’s self and deep religious themes. If you really want one of these topics in a commission, I may consider it. However, there will need to be additional discussion before beginning, so keep this in mind.

I hold the right to decline any request or commission offer if I feel I cannot adequately write about the subject requested.

Can I request “x Reader” or OCs?

Absolutely! I just have two requests that you follow, depending on which one you want:

If you are wanting an OC, I would like a description of the character included in the request. Include as much as you can about them; I want to be able to write them in the most accurate way!

For both x Readers and OCs, I ask that you specify the pronouns/applicable gender you want to be used.

What about “OT3s” or polyamorous pairings?

Go ahead! All I ask is that any of the pairings or characters I specified above in the “no-nos” are not included in the group.

Do you have any samples of your work?

Can I get a WIP of my commission?

When I have fully written through the commission, I will send it to you as a “first draft phase”. You can ask for any additions or omissions in this phase, and after I will add or delete anything you ask, along with polishing it up and making it just right!

Can I ask for things to be added or removed once you start?

If you ask for any additions or omissions to the work before or during the “first draft phase”, I will gladly make the revisions you ask, free of charge. However, if I am editing the final draft and you ask for any changes, I will add a flat $1 USD fee to the final total.

Will you ever have any sales for commissions?

Funny you should ask…I’m having a system set in place to discount certain characters at certain times of the year, which I call “Birthday Flash Sales”. Which leads to...

What on earth are “birthday flash sales”?

It’s really simple! In order to celebrate the birthdays of the characters I write for, I’ll be having a sale on commissions that include that character! For the day of the character’s birthday and two days before it, the baseline prices of commissions having them will be slashed!

Here’s how it works:

SFW: $0.50 USD per 100 words –> $0.25 USD per 100 words

NSFW: $0.75 USD per 100 words –> $0.50 USD per 100 words

So essentially, SFW works are half price, and NSFW works are the same price as normal SFW works!

Previous Chapters// PROLOGUE ONE TWO THREE

Summary: A prince and his sword encounters a white mage.

Warnings: Mentions of (magical) violence

Notes: I’ve been on a writing roll, lately. Thank you to everyone who’s still with me on this. It helps a lot. Also just for fun, I created this lil character board for Cecile, Remy, Rome & Dionne. Expect the rest of the OC’s to have one too because these are really fun to make.

CHAPTER FOUR

After receiving helpful information from a river Naiad named Cecile, Prince Calum and the Royal Liberation Army venture into the city of Ardglas. They look for the ‘boy with a golden halo’ and the ‘girl with a heart on her sleeve’ to heal Sir Ashton of his burns from the witch Estelle’s magick. When they cross the border, from forest to civilization, they are confronted with a civil war between the governing forces of Ardglas—two mages named Delara and Luke.

As the Royal Army rushed towards the flames and commotion, the bandit, Michael asked his companions, “Who the hell are Lady Delara and Lord Luke?”

To the prince’s dismay, the knight, Ashton—though injured—insisted he help in the possible fight. Now atop his galloping mare, Peggy, he recited to the group what he knew of the mages of Ardglas.

The city was home to a number of magick users and creatures—being one of Saere’s most mystical and diverse populations. Founded by the patron of all mages, it was decreed long ago that his ancestors would care for the land. In the current century, two mages were given dual responsibility to govern—Delara, a black mage of the house of Sutton, oversaw the Northern parts of the city while as Luke, a white mage and a member of the house of Hemmings, reigned in the South of Ardglas.

“To my knowledge, the two mages are also distant cousins,” Ashton finished with grimace. He and the twin knights, Remy and Rome, paved the way for the army—passing along burning buildings and destroyed cobblestone roads.

Michael scoffed from the wagon—pulled by the twins and their stallions—that he, Calum and his bandit family occupied. Dionne flew above them on her beloved gryphon, Arnie.

“A civil war and a family affair? This situation just keeps getting better and better.”

When they drew near, the screams of Ardglasians and combat were all to be heard. It was pure chaos—magick and weapons being used throughout the area. The Royal Army, not on horse or gryphon, jumped from the wagon and successfully rounded up the scared civilians.

“Remy, Rome. Please bring these people to safety.” Calum nodded to the two young knights. With a salute, they veered back—opposite the mayhem of battle—with a wagon full of people, grateful for the help.

From the sky, Dionne and Arnie suddenly let out a cry. “Incoming!”

The remaining group on land was able to disperse when a large fireball enveloped the place wherein they previously stood.

“Everyone all right?” The bandits responded to their leader’s inquiry as he went to stand by Calum. They stared at the scorched ground. “Well, that was close.”

The prince frowned. He looked up to gaze at the ongoing war. “Why are the two magick houses at war? What could have happened?”

The king of the wastelands gave a shrug of his shoulders. Before he could fathom a response, another scream ripped through the air.

“Another one!”

Calum had no time to react when he was forcefully pushed away—his back skidding against the ground.

“Michael, no!” The royal watched wide-eyed as another fireball fell fast towards the bandit.

Even the magick of Zephir could not help his friend—the speed of the flame just too violent, too quick.

All Michael could feel around him was heat. Unbearable heat. The kind where it made it difficult to breathe. A shadow obscured his vision as he awaited his untimely demise. After a second, the bandit shut his eyes and then felt nothing.

“Don’t be so careless.”

The bandit blinked his eyes open, in surprise. He was alive.

Furthermore, he did not recognize that voice.

The blond in front of him, calmly stood—his collared white dress shirt dirtied and charred. The stranger had one arm outstretched, the lace trim of his sleeve partially covering his palm halfway. The other hand held a glowing staff.

The young man took one look at the fireball, now unmoving, mid-air. It then exploded into hundreds of smaller flames—all harmless while dissipating into smoke.

“Boss! You ok?” Michael was then surrounded by his bandits—who helped him up—as well as Dionne, who had flown down to earth, in absolute worry.

“Y-Yeah, I’m alright. Thanks to this guy.”

Both Calum and Ashton, after dismounting from Peggy, joined the group—also looking over Michael to be sure he was not hurt. The prince then stepped forward to address the bandit’s saviour. “Thank you for protecting my friend.”

The blond turned towards the Royal Army, his stare piercing and blue. “You lot helped my people. It’s the least I can do.”

Ashton then squinted at him, in recognition. “Luke Hemmings? Leader of the Morning Doves and the southern plains of Ardglas?”

The renowned mage gave them a charming smile. “The one and only.”

As war raged on around them, Luke commanded his team of white mages to continue their valiant efforts. Though their struggle was apparent, they abided by their leader’s wishes—holding off the enemy and protecting him and the Royal Army from anymore wayward spells thrown their way.

In need of answers, Calum went to speak again when he was interrupted by the blond.

“Not here. Let’s go to my place and talk.”

“It was an ambush.”

The Royal Liberation Army stood with Luke in the large foyer of his heavily guarded manor. The white mage was aware of who Calum and Ashton were—the embroidery on the prince’s coat and the red ensigns that littered the knight’s silver armour being a dead giveaway. He was pleasantly surprised to meet their allies in the bandits; Michael, the acclaimed king of the Veodian wastelands that he saved from fire and Dionne, the sole gryphon rider Luke has ever met.

“Delara can be a brat but she’s not a violent person.” Luke grimaced at the thought. He and his cousin never had an issue in governing the city. They did so equally and peacefully. He was at a loss when news of the mages of her domain began their attack that morning.

“I know they’re from the Midnight Crows but—”

The Royal Army could see the apprehension in his face. Luke hid it well but he was certainly distraught over the entire situation. “—I think someone else is making them do this.”

At the comment, Calum made subtle eye contact with some of his allies. “Do you think—”

“That it’s the Easentian Army? It’s quite possible.” Ashton crossed his arms—a pensive look on his face. “I wouldn’t put it past them to wreak havoc around Saere.”

Before they could ponder more on the thought, one of Luke’s mages came rushing into the room, something in their hands.

“My Lord, it’s ready.”

The leader of the White Doves was presented with a gold circlet, its thick band encrusted with what looked like diamonds. The Royal Army stared in awe at the accessory as Luke explained that the jewels were actually crystalized water from the mystical lake, Galatea. A while back, the mage had discovered that the solid matter of lakewater carried a high concentration of magick—a single crystal being able to amplify the powers of even a child mage. Many times over.

“White mages are known primarily for their healing magick. For black mages, it’s offensive spells—like the fireball that almost fried the bandit to a crisp.” He finished, with a teasing grin. Michael let out a mock laugh.

“The crystals will help us stand a fighting chance but so far, we only have enough for this single headpiece.”

Luke went to place the circlet on his head when Calum had a realization.

“The boy with a golden halo.”

The mage expressed confusion at the comment. The prince then explained their being in Ardglas, in the first place, with the help of a river Naiad and the need of a healer for Ashton. At the mention of his name, the knight—with some difficulty—removed the breastplate of his armoured suit. He pulled up his undershirt to reveal his injuries. The burns had gotten worse, most likely due to their activity. After a quick inspection, Luke frowned. These were not ordinary burns. “Dela is better versed in magical wounds like this. I’d need her help to treat him.”

Calum gave a nod of his head. “Then it’s decided. We pay her a visit while getting to the bottom of this all.”

After some strategic planning, the Royal Army, Luke and a handful of his mages, set off for the domain of the Midnight Crows. Before leaving, the head mage turned towards the knight who was adjusting his saddle on the white mare. “You should stay behind, Ashton.”

At being addressed, Ashton regarded the blond in bewilderment. “Excuse me?”

The mage held his ground. “I don’t know much about your kind of injury but I know enough that if you join us it can—no, it will get worse.”

Overhearing their conversation, Calum stepped forward. “Ash—are you in pain?”

The knight regarded his prince, his best friend, with a sense of desperation in his eyes. “It’s nothing I can’t handle.” He then let out a breath, “Calum, you need me.”

“What I need is for you to be ok.”

Ashton did not know how to respond so Calum continued. “I’m not asking as your best friend. I’m telling you as your prince that you’re not leaving Luke’s place to fight.”

Not one to disobey a royal order, Ashton backed down—though begrudgingly.

Michael and Dionne watched on as it all transpired. The bandit king then spoke to his oldest friend. “Di, you should stay behind with Ashton.”

The group turned towards the two when Dionne let out a rather loud scoff. “Are you kidding me? I’m one of your best fighters! Like hell I’m staying here with the royal knight.”

Michael then made the argument. “Exactly, you’re my best fighter. If Delara’s mages somehow get to Luke’s while we’re away, Ash is done for. He’s gonna need backup.”

Dionne hated to admit it but her friend was right. He was always thinking of others which made him such a good leader. Of course he would be concerned with leaving behind his new—and injured—friend unprotected.

When the group finally made their way, Calum looked back towards Luke’s home.

Ashton stood with Dionne, the girl’s arms crossed and a small scowl on her face—the white mare and gryphon standing alongside their respective riders.

The prince’s eyes met with the knight’s as Ashton raised a hand to gesture a number of things. A ‘goodbye’ yet ‘see you soon.’ A ‘fight fierce’ but ‘return safe and unharmed.’

Calum then faced forward while speaking to Michael who was right next to him. “I hope we did the right thing.”

A soldier pushed open a set of giant wooden doors. “General, the white mage, Luke, has come with reinforcements!” He spoke between pants.

The large man glanced out of the stained glass window of the manor to see a group of individuals beginning to storm the entry gates. One of them, in particular, caught his eye.

“Well, if it isn’t the prince and his sad excuse of an army.” He let out a maniacal laugh. “Emperor Lorian will be pleased to hear that we’ve found them.”

He turned away from the glass to speak with another figure in the room.

“Looks like your cousin is trying to play hero, huh Dela?”

He received no response from the brunette woman crumpled on the floor. Her once navy blue dress was now stained with darkened spots from the blood that seeped through her wounds. Where her left sleeve was ripped open, a peculiar birthmark was made apparent.

In the shape of a heart.
