something that stays in my brain at all times is that when kaladin learns how to read it feels the exact same to when he stayed up all night as a teen reading medical textbooks. hunched over a book memorizing glyphs by candelight and then, as an adult, memorizing words and tracing letters in a notebook next to him. getting cricks in his neck from falling asleep mid-study session. so determined to learn that he spends all night studying and uses stormlight to stay awake after all-nighters. education is a familiar passion for kaladin that it’s an easy obsession for him to rekindle as an adult. and do you know how many details about the human body are in the written word that have to be left out in strictly visual gylphs? a lot.
