i dont know your rules or if you have a masterlist but out of nowhere I got obsessed with King and i need more fics on him, my favorites are headcanons

I don't have any rules and no master list yet! But I'm glad you decided to send this ask! As a fellow King-starved OP fan it can be quite hard to find any content about him, especially as a Yandere, like- why, it works so well with him!! As for bedroom headcanons, I wrote this a while ago. Not exactly a straightforward answer to your question but still, I think you'll get the answer yourself. Also, I managed to fit some backstory about King😅 (most of it is actually his backstory) but I promise it explains his... yandareness... my writing style is different but I hope you'll like it. More ideas about this AU have come to me as I was working on this, so let me know if I should write part 2... Anyway, hope you enjoy this!

Warnings: Spoilers for King's real name, his backstory, kidnapping, closed-off character, murder, arson.

No matter where Alber goes, there will always be a certain darkness following him, the darkness that began surfacing inside of him ever since he became a research subject at Punk Hazard. The memories of warmth are lost to him, his family members, their faces, their love, traditions- everything from his past turned into shadowy figures that visit him in the dead of night, where he laid bare on his back, defenseless and unable to move an inch.

Alber experiences, no- has experienced those lonesome nights too many times after his escape, with Kaidou at his side, passed out drunk, there was only so much he could do under the night sky, as the sweat rolled down his chin, awake and stricken with fear, haunted by the nightmarish masks and white coats. The extreme heat lingered under his skin, with no scars to show the battles he survived on the Punk, though he could still feel the consequences of others' actions.

Each day his loyalty to Kaidou grows and so does his disdain for the people they have met on their journey. Days and months soon turned into years, years he has spent becoming stronger, years he spent with Kaidou, he has to catch up with him, perhaps matching up to his strength, but that is reaching too far, for Kaidou is strong, stronger then he'll ever be. Each second his world shrinks down to only the hero, who had saved him, his vision is blind to the islands they traveled to and conquered, blind to the beaten-up bodies they defeated. The colors of his environment blur together, lost to the intriguing laugh of his captain. He stares after the huge back, a back which he has to fill with his own will and strength, He is no longer Alber, for the boy was a shadow that no longer belonged to his body, weak, only confident in his endurance, a prey waiting for salvation. The worthless name stood on empty grounds, a new title was given to him.

He tries his best and this time, his best is enough for the man he idolizes (He has to thank his biology). He backs up his captain and engraves his name onto the burnt enemy's back, King. He takes pride in his new title, fit for Joyboy's first-mate.

He is no longer Alber. He is now the predator that the scientists have tried to research and avoid. He puts on a nobles mask, made of the finest leather. He puts on a new identity, on that day, on that land, a monster was born, a monster that happened to burry its emotions into the depths of the ocean.

King smiles.

Even after their crew gets big, annoying comments from Queen are met with aggressive glares, his facial features are hidden behind a dark mask that's acting as an intimidation factor, he holds the crew together purely for Kaidou, there is no respect tugging at his actions, sentiment hasn't had a place in him for some time now. What he first felt when he met Kaidou only brings so much to the table, so little emotion, aside from authority. The dark grows, and even if he is emitting an eternal fire, ebony covers his frames, cooling the heat and leaving him in the chilliness of The Beast's shadow. In utter darkness.

King kills, tears the bodies up, and burns them until not even the bones remain. All he does is stare down at the screaming faces, staring them down as they did to Alber. All he sees is the red light coming from the burning village. The smell of rot follows after him as he walks down the streets of an unnamed island.

In a small cottage at the end of the town, he feels a presence hiding from him. Away from the door which he bursts through. He doesn't waste his time as he strides into the person's house, in a place he can see their shaking silhouette. His steps are loud in his tiny bubble, with no fire or scream entering his field of hearing, he doesn't hear the door shut itself, but he can feel the breaths that left the person's nose, and can hear the vibrations caused by their shaky figure across the floor. In the dark of the room, he opens a cabinet to find scared!you.

And his field of vision, which was locked onto Kaidou all this time, shifts. It gets bigger as he stares into your scared eyes, glossed over with tears trickling down your face, your expression is drowned in fear as you look up at him. Unknown to the feelings running through him.

The feelings, the emotions he buried long ago now seemed to resurface, looking at your sweat-covered forehead, his eyes travel over your form, they remain frigid, even as his heart rate speeds up, even as the world around you becomes darker, even as his breathing becomes heavy.

Up until now, only Kaidou existed, for Kaidou. With Kaidou. Now the narrow view of him widens as you, a mare civilian join the everlasting space that exists inside of him. Your eyes so bright, filled with fear attract him. Your face shape, so tender and beautiful. You are the only color that exists in the dark, the only light in the endless tunnel.

The house is dark, but you emit light, you stick out even when he has stopped using Observation Haki. You make him feel warm in a way that he has never experienced before.

His heart is beating faster and faster the longer your eye contact lasts, his wind was knocked out of his lungs by the time he moved.

As he takes you by your arm, you stay quiet in fear of what he could do, quivering as he wraps his fingers fully around your arm. Your legs are frozen, acting like dead meat when he drags you out of the untouched house, they barely move when you realize the situation you got into.

He doesn't answer your questions of what he is doing or where he is taking you, his ears only picked up your voice, so angelic and clear in the sparks of fire that lit your garments, your skin and hair shining in beautiful reds and yellows, though he would enjoy seeing your natural colors. In a setting much cooler, and less tragic than this.

His world warps once again, he doesn't falter when Jack tosses a strange look his way as he gets closer to their ship.

He remains unaffected by your insults and weak attempts to set yourself free from his grasp. His natural strength is much greater than yours will ever be.

He ends up taking you to his room, barely remembering the path he took to get there and the faces he must have come across. He only lets go of you when the door is locked.

Reader kisses Oppy in the cheek and he just melts at the feeling of their soft lips, he didn't knew they were also soft, he should have imagined it by now.

Time passes and he can finally get a proper kiss from Reader and he just can't get away, he can't break the kiss, the next thing Reader feels is Optimus' glossa on their mouth and Optimus rumbles from the feeling of Reader's human 'glossa' being soft and wet and– oh-! everything else is also soft and he needs more.

When Optimus finally gets it down with Reader he's so excited, he wants to touch everywhere and lick everywhere, and when he pushes his spike inside Reader he's so baffled by how soft and wet and tight and alien everything feels, it feels similar to a valve but different enough to be totally alien and he's so up for it.

He's constantly trying to not be so loud, he's groaning and whimpering, he squeezes whatever his servos grab onto and he loves every single sound and expression Reader makes, he has never been this turned on in his life and a tiny human in pushing him to the brink– and then his vision glitches as his hips starts to buckle out of control, his frame tensing and slightly convulsing and he looks so cute while he drains his tanks all inside poor reader who is also a wet mess. 🫣

He's even more obsessed, his hard servos could never replicate the softness of his pretty human.

and then he went in and nervously asked for a thigh, tit and maybe then a bodyjob, but only when he's at his full height (because he absolutely has no wishes of seeing Reader drenched in his transfluid)

Tsurune —Tsunagari no Issha— Official Fanbook Interview

Director Yamamura Takuya

Debuted as a director in 2018 with “Tsurune —Kazemai Koukou Kyuudou-bu—”, recapping the series with a movie four years later. What has he found through working on “Tsunagari no Issha” with his team?

Making an animation that would “tear into everyone’s hearts”

——About the sequel’s production, what kind of work did you want to make it into?

I wanted to create an animation that would tear into the hearts of the viewers. There are so many animated works out there in the world, and unfortunately, some of them end up being forgotten. However, I believe even those works leave something behind that marks our hearts, like, “I love that one scene from that one movie”. I think this is the animation “tearing into your heart”. Up until now, even while working as an episode director for series other than “Tsurune”, I’ve always thought, “I want to make animation that will leave a strong impression”. With “Tsurune”, I have taken the position of series director, and this desire grew stronger during the production of the movie and second season.

——You have used ribbons for the OP and key visuals of the second season. Where did this idea come from?

One time, when I was gathering references of Japanese archery, I felt that there was an invisible connection between the clubmates. I figured it was both a connection between comrades and a connection with the things they had been doing until then. It was then that I decided to write the story of season 2 with “connections” as the theme. When I thought about how to depict it, I figured I wanted a motif that would make people feel a “connection” through imagery, not words. From there, after thinking about how to represent the characters’ relationships through bringing out their designated colors, the result we got to was the ribbons.

Portraying the paths of three archers

——How did you want to write Minato in the second season?

We depicted Minato’s “recovering from target panic” in the first season, but in the second one, I wanted to write Minato as a positive and cheerful protagonist, as the ochi of Kazemai. I wanted to portray him as pulling everyone along, until he could feel from the bottom of his heart that he “loves the bow”. From the start of season 2, Minato has become resilient, enough to be able to face any walls he hits with nothing but positivity, while also enjoying kyudo.

——You were also able to depict the shortcomings that come with being obsessed with kyudo.

When you research kyudo, you find out that some parts of it have things in common with our daily lives and how we work. There was a time when I was too preoccupied with nothing but myself, which gave me tunnel vision, and when I looked back, I realized I had been acting selfishly, but although I repented for it, the fact that I had a negative impact on the people around me means I wasn’t able to see things objectively. I wanted to depict these kinds of shortcomings, which everyone experiences at least once in life, in this story. That’s exactly what making animation is—there’s a limit to what a person can do by themselves. I think that only with someone else’s help and support can you finally accomplish what you weren’t able to do by yourself.

——There were many cuts in season 2 where Minato’s eyes left an impression.

Just as it says “I want to keep looking at this ‘infatuation’” on the thumbnail of the first key visual (page 9 of this book), I intended to portray the act of “looking” with care. This is also something I realized when gathering material about Japanese archery—that the archers look at the target very seriously. When I saw them doing that, I felt like this is how it goes—they “observe, take notice and learn”. We have also made the highlights bigger for the designs of the characters’ irises in the second season, in order for the photography of their eyes to feel convincing. I wanted to make it so that the movements of Minato’s heart, such as being stimulated by what people say to him or relating to someone else’s feelings, would be conveyed through his eyes. The way that Minato’s eyes motivate the people around him is implied in the expression “fire-starter”, which was used in the first volume of the novel. When you see someone doing their best, you also feel like doing your best, right?

——How did you plan to write Shuu, who is also Minato’s rival?

About Shuu, we could only depict fragments of him in the first season, so I wanted to portray his private life in detail in the second one. Born as the eldest son of the Fujiwara family, Shuu was raised with the expectation of behaving as an heir from a young age, so I think he had come to be called “the young nobleman” without even himself realizing it. But he shows a gentle face in front of Sae-chan, so the truth is that he does have a normal high school boy side to him. I’m glad we were able to show this casual facet of Shuu in the second season.

——Shuu’s attitude towards archery seemed to be different from Minato’s.

This is but my own interpretation and has nothing to do with the original novel, but I think Shuu was living his life thinking he had to be strong at all times. So perhaps he felt the strength that he had been looking for since early childhood in the sport called Japanese archery, where one has to face themselves. His father built a kyudojo in their home and asked Saionji-sensei to teach him, so it feels like he couldn’t back down (laughs). Because he’d been subconsciously shouldering these expectations from his father, he was taken aback when Ryouhei told him, “I had the feeling that he’s rooting for you”. Ryouhei’s presence must have been a big deal for Shuu, since it gives him different perspectives. I really think it’s great that Shuu started getting along with Ryouhei.

I was the one in charge of the storyboards for episode 7, which delves deep into Shuu. I believe the levels of completion in that storyboard are quite high, even amongst all the storyboards I’ve drawn until now!

——The paintings from episode 7 were also impressive.

We thought about what the most effective way of expressing things through animation would be, rather than saying them through dialogue, and as a result, we came up with the paintings. The painting decorating Shuu’s room carries the meaning of, “through meeting the Boy, the Black Eagle became king”. This foreshadows the fact that through meeting Minato, who can aim for the same heights as him, Shuu wins both the team and individual competitions at the national tournament. The crown in the painting being right on top of Shuu’s head as he sat in front of it was pure coincidence. It surprised me when I was checking the animation, like, “Huh, the crown is on Shuu’s head?!” and then the staff was even more surprised, like, “Was that not on purpose!?” (laughs).

——Could you tell us about the appeal of Nikaidou Eisuke, who appears from season two?

The things Nikaidou does are so main character-like, aren’t they? In order to prove the superiority of the shamen-style shooting, he rebuilt a club on the verge of being disbanded by himself and went as far as the nationals. I think it’s charming that his purpose for shooting the bow was properly established and that he was set on quitting once it was achieved. Personally, I also really like the fact that he isn’t the kind of person who keeps doing things on a whim, but rather who is good at planning and is able to get things done.

——How did you think about writing Nikaidou in season two?

After rewatching episode 1, I noticed, during the regional tournament, that Nikaidou has an incredible way of putting up walls through his words and attitude (laughs). The plan was to make an impact on the viewers at first, like, “What’s up with this guy?” and then reveal the burdens he was shouldering as the story went on. I wrote him while hoping he would ultimately become the kind of character that people root for.

——He did show a lot of facial expressions.

Rather than being two-faced, he’s the kind of skillful character who changes the way he interacts with others depending on who they are. But although he’s skilled, he’s still a high school student, so of course, he has an awkward side to him. There are times when he shows his leadership within the club, yet he also ends up acting rebellious with Masa-san after being told this and that, even though he knows that Masa-san is right. He has many sides to him, but all of it comes from earnest actions in order to accomplish his goals.

——The flashback in episode 9 was an essential scene that shows his backbone.

Within the limited TV series slot of 20 minutes per episode, I think you always want to display maximum effect in the minimum amount of time. It was necessary to think about whether we’d be able to convey Nikaidou’s backbone through the short flashback scene of episode 9. I told Ishihara (Tatsuya)-san, who was in charge of episode 9’s storyboards, “I want you to depict the four seasons in the flashbacks so that they represent the passage of time”. I think it’s a scene that lets you feel the precious days that Nikaidou and his uncle Shigeru spent together along with the change of seasons. I personally think Nikaidou had a superb reaction when his uncle asked him, “Do you have to shoot like that?” as he was about to abandon the shamen-style shooting. The way he averts his eyes and dangles his feet under the table.

Okay, seeing all the self-aware Master Chief in the drafts, I have to throw this one out: Self-Aware Arbiter scenario, specifically Halo 3 where he’s jealous that Reader can only play as him during co-op (and *only* if they’re player two) and even when he’s an NPC in solo it’s only for a few meetings in the campaign.

Sure! I'll see what I can do for this.... Only Thel knows he's a character in a game and keeps this thought to himself. I had to make this short as I was not sure how to pace it longer, I'm sorry! :(

Yandere! Self-Aware! Thel/Arbiter Short (Halo 3)

Pairing: Romantic/Platonic (It's dubious)

Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Jealousy, Self-Aware AU, Obsession, Mostly shows yandere learning and trying to cope with being in a game, Stalking implication, Thoughts of violence, Violence, Murder, Slight worshipping, OOC behavior most likely.

Thel knew that this was the Chief's story but that didn't stop his jealousy. Before Thel knew this world was a game ge thought this was his story. Turns out that wasn't as true as he thought.

The demon, Chief, has always been the main focus it seems. Thel was simply just a bystander, a secondary character. That alone wasn't why Thel felt bitter even if it did burn a little.

Thel knew something no one else knew here. There was no point in explaining it, for some reason only Thel was aware of this. This world was a game... with a player to boot.

Thel has grown accustomed to this "player". There's times he has visions of this being and they look similar to the humans of his world. It's always a weird and ethereal experience to him.

Once he found out about this higher power, Thel has felt attached. It makes sense, after all he can't tell if everyone in this world was ever real or not. With you he feels he was... chosen?

Yet at the same time he feels neglected. Thel has noticed he's always secondary in this journey. The Chief always happens to be your "host" in missions unless you have a partner.

The thought makes his mandibles twitch.

When he did feel your presence guiding him, it was divine! If the Covenant worshipped you he could understand. They didn't, part of him is actually quite relieved. Maybe it's better no one else knows of you.

It just means you and him are special.

As much as Thel thinks of it at times, it would be out of character of him to attack Chief for something he doesn't understand. Even if Thel is jealous, he should control it. Although it's hard to explain to his crew why he's been training so much lately.

These feelings Thel has for you, this player, are hard to explain for him. It just feels like an overwhelming attraction. Like a magnet... he wants to learn more about you.

He wonders about your world, based on what he's seen it's rather primitive. He wonders about your size, you look rather small compared to him. He's curious like some youngling.

Thel can't help his glaring towards Chief at times. The others ask about it but he comes up with an excuse. In reality he's jealous of the fact he knows Chief is host to you.

What would happen if he shoved his energy sword into his gut.... Would it reset things like all the times he has died? Could he... take out his anger this way?

Thel thinks heavily on ideas to vent his frustration. The only way he can subdue himself is watching you through your screen when the "game" is off. Any other time... he just has to cope.

He tries to silence his envy but it sits heavy in his gut. His predatory eyes stare Chief down in missions. Soon... thinking of you... he can't take it anymore.

He hopes someday he manages to meet you in your world. It would be so much calmer. No Covenant, no Flood, no jealousy. You may be human, but he can make things work.

You may be scared... but he'll try to explain everything.

Thel focuses on his anger and envy when he suddenly charges at Chief. He treats it like an accident, friendly fire. It all doesn't matter, right? All that really matters is you.

Thel is sorry for ruining your fun when he slides his Energy Blade into the gut of Chief. He twists the blade, continuing to glare into his visor. Poor Chief, huh? He has no idea what he's caused.

Thel can't really blame you or Chief. Yet nothing stops his envy. Speaking of which, the feeling ebbs away when he pulls the blade out of his... "partner".

Things started to go black after that. The game was resetting. No one would know what he did. The idea makes him realize he could do this over and over again.

Yet Thel will play nice for now. While his violence felt relieving and soothing for the burning within him... he had other plans. Somehow, Thel vowed to meet you properly one day.

Then he won't have to deal with his sickly emotions anymore...

That way he'd always be chosen by you... there would be no other choice.

HELLOOOOO i am SO sorry i didn't see this when you sent it because trust and believe i would've dropped everything to respond... but here we are NOW and isn't that lovely...

anyway i do love a little kj op... why mess with a classic! i think it is so great when a pissy little bitch has a guy (especially a boring guy that makes everyone else go seriously? him?) who makes them go all 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 and lets them do stuff that they'd rip anyone else's head off for and i love kj's ardent love of someone bigger than him <3 i also am soooo deeply obsessed w the kj patrik laine possibilities... he fucked that rookie.... i'm an adam fantilli . hater is not the right word. i just simply find his vibe a little off. but i do think it's soooo funny that he's obsessed with kj and if she wanted to give him the time of day well i would allow it because i support women. also love whatever is happening with kj and mason mctavish (and also cbedard but that always makes me PERSONALLY feel kind of weird because he's like a sad little baby kitten to me) i personally have never been able to get into whatever mm has got going on but i DO like to dabble a little... there are some real geniuses out there doing beautiful thoughts about this...

also this is literally just for me and my own enjoyment but i do have a vision of bordy and kj together where they're like... mildly toxic (in the sense that they're in college and bordy is really good at pissing kj off and kj can't stop herself from engaging and letting bordy know exactly how annoyed she is) reluctant best friends where bordy is always trying to give kj makeovers because she's like 'you're sooo pretty and maybe if you started acting like it you'd be able to do something other than make heart eyes at owen. which we can all see btw.' and kj is very -_- about it but she still lets it happen and they do make out sloppy style sometimes... there's a whole plot there i promise i've thought about this extensively.... if you were WONDERING this is what the fit n full tag is ✌️ okay im done for now thank you for giving me a PLATFORM

hope it's okay to put this here, if not will edit the post, buuuut i usually do a little post-movie decompression and your tags are a great place to start it:

i have had this on my letterboxd to watch for awhile, and was tipped over the edge when the director of a play im in said "so there's a biker gang and one of the girls is obsessed with rococo" i cannot tell you what about that description charmed me so much i had to watch it immediately, but hey, sometimes you know that It's Time

i was kind of expecting a really serious film, and it turned out much more like a sweet queer romcom of that early 2000s lesbian flavour (meaning that most of them don't end up more than subtext, but the text in this one is... very text. they pretend they're about to kiss in the end-credits sequence type text)

was fun to accidentally land on another film that's about Style and Taste and The Soundtrack Being Cool, because i watched empire records and then young soul rebels these last couple of days, so clearly that's the theme of this little unexpected watching time

but seriously this film is really Cool, first and foremost, and it's got a fascinating set of philosophies in it about style (especially clothes) that surprised me, because you don't get a lot of cinema celebrating style without at least giving a cautionary "but watch out lest you become Shallow!" i really enjoyed that the arc of this one was "actually i am great at making clothes and im really capable actually, but i'd much rather buy clothes and look pretty in order to be a true rococo woman! the most important thing is dedication to Style! (and ichigo)"

like, her ethos really is high femme camp -- she's there to look beautiful and she enjoys that and she does it on her own terms, and specifically the only person she enjoys making for is... ichigo

and consequently, while she absolutely dresses for herself, there is also a sense that the only person whose opinion she values is also ichigo, and ichigo treats her exactly how she wants to be treated -- when momoko faints, she runs to her and cradles her head, she takes her out on her bike at the end, she's the strong badass to momoko's sweet prettiness

but then in another fun subversion, momoko is the one constantly looking out for ichigo -- she has the clothes she needs (and sells them for cheap), she embroiders her jacket after going a full day on a search for a person we later find out doesn't exist, she wins all the money, she comes for her when ichigo is in danger of getting seriously hurt and saves her, she gets offered a job based on her competencies that later on gives ichigo an opportunity (ironically to look pretty, which... she really really is beautiful) (although they both turn them down after getting a taste of it, they'd much rather roll around on a bike together). ichigo says at the end that she'll simply never be out of her debt, and that makes momoko smile, like yeah, that means they'll have to stay together forever

idk this movie is just so Cool and so Fun and soooo so gay

i also note that the single mild no-homo is so immaterial that watching it i wasn't actually sure if it wasn't about akimi, who was introduced as this beautiful vision that changed ichigo's life back in the day and now it turns out that not only is she engaged to this man, she's pregnant and leaving the gang, shifting ichigo's whole axis -- the framing is on her, she was introduced with the In Love/Lesbian Awakening Gaze, she's the reason ichigo is who she is, and the catalyst for why ichigo eventually leaves the gang (the other catalyst being momoko + the slightly less focused-on one of "not liking the direction it's going in"). it's got such a "im a teenager and upset about this but i cannot say why, it must be because im in love with this guy i barely know and because uh... i don't respect the new leader's vision!"

i think this film also carries a certain kind of vibe that reminds me of streets of fire, that is, in some ways it feels much more like a myth or a fairytale, because everything is so extravagant and yet slightly vague (and i mean that positively). we're being introduced to the origins of a myth of these two people who travel the roads in cool clothes and set biker gangs right, like. Urgh it's so Cool!

and the animation i didnt even mention the animation but it's got Cool Animation too!!!!

it's funny, i tend to land hard on the "gets obsessed with more masc characters" (wow wonder why) but in this one -- while of course they're both great and that's the point -- i was absolutely enamoured with momoko. her casual cynicism, her confusion about why she suddenly cares about one (1) person, her absolute dedication to The Vibe that is her whole being, her seemingly being completely unaware of just how easily she can draw people to her. just, the Power that is momoko (and now she's got the muscle of ichigo, nothing can stop them)

Even if we buy into the premise of curses fighting for their own existence, it's sort of like, "Team A and Team B are fighting. Team A has killed a lot of Team B over many years. Team B has also done that, but also needs to kick eleven hospitalized children in the face for their enjoyment every day to keep going. What a dilemma!"

Back from my vacation in Japan after a couple of weeks and returning to to finish this season, and let me tell you, watching this show in the hours leading up to leaving made for a very harrowing first time at the train station. They use incredibly accurate building modelling in this show. Also, I did get a little Nanami keychain. In any case, I have returned to finish hurting my feelings

Skyler's October 2024 AO3 Recs

Boysssss, I have been slacking with sharing other people's fics, so I'm gonna work on being better with that. Below the cut is a non-exhaustive list of fics I've started/finished in October 2024 (i.e. all the ones that didn't get too buried in my AO3 history page and aren't PWP) that I enjoyed. I tried to sort fics from least to most traffic, so the higher on each list, the more it deserves some attention!

I didn't read a ton this month, so we've got a pretty short list. Expect the same in November, but December is usually a big reading month for me.

I enjoy stuff others find triggering, so particularly in the whump-focused section, make sure you read the tags first. I didn't relist triggers that the authors already noted on the stories.

Since October's weird because of Whumptober, I'm just going to link to my whumptober reblogs tag to knock all the Whumptober fills out! I liked all of these, but there are far too many to go into detail on. You'll find a lot of shorter fics under this tag because I mainly follow people who tried to complete every day. It's mostly VLD in there, but I know a few FMA fics made it through! If you're as much of a Keith stan as I am, definitely hit all of @perpetuallylatetothefandomparty's posts under this tag. Even the People in Your Dreams Will Lie to You by popering: Klance, but the ship's not so much the focus imo. LONG. technically, I did NOT find this in October but I haven't hyped it up nearly enough yet, so here it is anyway. also, I re-read it in October, so maybe that counts. follows keith and lance being rescued from galra captivity. the author describes it as a science fiction mindfuck and that is so accurate. plenty of angsty content, but not like... over the top. like it all has a plot purpose. this may have usurped my previous all-time favorite fic... unfinished but I have no reason to believe OP won't come through with the rest, and it is close to complete. catch me in the comments as I work on my re-read.

The Future Freaks Me Out by gghostnebula: Klance. longfic. I forget how long ago I found this, but it COUNTS because I read it again this month. (I say as though I don't reread it every few months obsessively.) when I say my ideal fic... very Keith-focused. lots of hurt/comfort. slowburn Klance with fake dating. painful backstory that gets resolved. somehow takes a couple tropes I hate and makes me love them. heavily inspired something i'm writing now, so if you don't like it, you're gonna have a bad time following me in a few months... if this fic has no diehard fans then i am dead.

To Whom It May Concern by heavily_caffeinated: Klance. short. a follow-up fic to Dear Reader in the relatively near future! modern AU. Cute & a nice little chance to get back into that AU for a bit. Strongly recommend reading Dear Reader first, but I guess you don't have to.

to breathe in this mirage by existwound: Klance, but pre-slash (sort of). there's time travel, so technically it's also not pre-slash, but you see the vision here. pushing that border between what I consider medium and long for a fic. canon-verse. this is 1) adorable, 2) just that little bit of angsty, and 3) so fucking well-written. (am I biased bc I love existwound? yes, what of it?) unfinished but I trust Astra with my life, so the other chapter will come.

A King and His Fisherman by heavily_caffeinated: Klance. long and finished! modern AU. sold me on dad Lance (coming from someone who typically hates fics involving child characters).

All the posts about my pet headcanon are tagged "#schizophrenic sam winchester." Creative, I know. The occasional solely schizophrenia related posts are tagged "#schizospec education." Queue tag is #hallqueuecinations and oh boy do I have way too much stuff queued. I do tag ships so you can filter them out if you want to, but like... I am a johndean and wincest person. If you really don't want to see that, you should just leave.

I am watching SPN for the first time and am currently on episode S4 E7. Maybe. I do forget to update this number a lot. Don't worry about spoiling me. Trust me, I've already been all over SPN tumblr. And yes, I am already headcanoning Sam as schizophrenic despite having not yet gotten to the part where he actually hallucinates. Pretty early on, I'd seen enough from the fandom to know that Sam was going to give me ~feelings~ as a schizophrenic, but Home was what sold me on it. The way he responds to the vision is exactly like my experience of delusions. It's like having blinders on. You can't think about anything else and you need to figure it all out and fix it right this minute. It's urgent and obsessive in the same way Sam was. His body language, too, was just perfect, down to just what he did with his hands. I look at Sam, especially Sam getting visions, and I see myself. So. Sam Winchester is schizophrenic. Not in some "Sam hallucinated the entire show" way (God I hate those theories) or that none of the supernatural stuff is real. Everything we see is real, but Sam's brain also pulls some shit of its own.

A very important note, given the name of my blog: schizo is a slur. I reclaim it a lot. I was diagnosed by people who want to change the definition of schizophrenia, and so for a long time, I was explicitly told not to call myself schizophrenic. That's bullshit. My symptoms aren't quite traditional, and I am at the more mild end, but as per the current DSM? I'm schizophrenic. But because for a long time I got told "you're schizo-spec, but not schizophrenic," the word I associate myself with more than anything is schizo. I try to actually write out schizophrenic when I'm on this account, but in real life, I usually don't. But if you are not anywhere on the schizophrenia spectrum, you should not say it (unless you're tagging me). I don't want my handle to give anyone the idea that you can go around calling Sam a schizo. I can. You can't.

My purpose isn't directly to educate about schizophrenia, but I know that the general cultural perception of it misses a lot, so just by shouting about how I headcanon Sam as schizophrenic, I will accidentally teach you all things. In light of that, there will be the occasional reblog of not at all SPN related awareness posts, and my asks are always open. You all have my permission to ask rude and personal questions about it that you should not ask strangers. Schizophrenia is basically a special interest of mine at this point. I am very open about stuff, not so much because of desire to educate or what have you but just because part of my schizophrenia is having very little filter. I will say that if you ask me about the delusions I've had, you're going to get an incomplete answer because going into them too much can be triggering. Everything else is on the table, though.

I am struggling to watch the show atm, my brain doesn't work right, but I can give a so far/from Tumblr list!

Buggy (obviously), he was my fave when I tried to read the manga a few years back and he still is now that I've watched the live action and some of the anime. Because of the obsession I have for this freaky clown man, anytime a love song pops up on my playlist he is the audience! Typically Anniversary by Aurelio Voltaire, Tear in My Heart by Twenty One Pilots, Electric Love by Borns. I always listen to these songs like my OC is singing to or about Buggy.

Mihawk, again, big sword! I also like the goth aesthetic he has, he's very pretty. He's quite sassy in the live action, I feel it's more pronounced there. I also think he's low key silly and I love that extra depth, his bathroom with a toilet in the middle on carpet and nothing else. I think there's a one piece academy(?) manga where he collects sea shells! The Grimm Troup or The Nightmare King from the Hollow Knight OST, I just think this man needs to swing his big sword around to large orchestral music!

Crocodile, I like my villains, mostly because the early crew are all kids and I haven't gotten to the older crew yet so... He has questionable fashion taste, a stupid laugh and he gets beaten by a kid in flip flops with a barrel of water. His crew broke out of prison and he thought "nah, nothin' out there for me. I'll stick to going under the jail, thanks." I don't think of him to music as often as others, by I think Ex Lover's Lover by Aurelio Voltaire fits my vision of him. Either he does do what the song suggests, actually having the misaligned conviction to follow through or he only thinks about it just like the song, not because he's afraid but because he sees it as beneath him.

Doflamingo, I've heard people change their opinions on him when they finally reach his arcs, I am nowhere near him so this is more based on what I've heard and seen on Tumblr. I am down bad for morally reprehensible characters, okay? I also have a thing for Corazon but I'm ranking these based on the amount of thoughts I have and fan content I've consumed. Amygdala's Rag Doll by GHOST, this is more in that I like to think of my OC body swapped with Doffy, the bird himself has an odd role in my brain.

Benn Beckman, can you see a pattern yet? I'm a sucker for long hair, scars of any kind, and tall. I rarely have a thing for people with guns, I'm more into melee or hand to hand but he makes it work. I like his dynamic with Shanks, being the more serious first mate to Shanks' goofy ass. (tends to be a theme across OP) I also think he looks like a dollar store Crocodile pre time skip, take that as you will. Another man I don't associate with music often, I really had to think about this one. No Sudden Movements by Five Finger Death Punch, sadly I do not have much explanation for that one.

Simon Williams, Marvel's Wonder Man, their first evil Superman, or why out of all the obscure characters I could have latched onto, it's fucking Wonder Man.

I'll preface; the first reason why I ever gave more than a cursory glance at a wikipedia page at Simon was because he was attached to my favourite character, The Vision, and was heavily related to my other favourite character, Wanda Maximoff. I'm not going to lie & say that it was love at first sight or anything; I was a fan of Vision & Wanda for a while, & upon discovering Vision had a whole twin brother I never knew about, but one who had also dated Wanda later, I found it weird that I could find almost jack shit about the character online.

In the fandom spaces I was in, Simon was mostly "that asshole Vision is kinda related to and was weirdly quick to start flirting with Wanda when Vision got Byrne'd". I, new to marvel comics, was curious about this mystery man, and fell into a strange world of Marvel before the MCU was really the big thing people knew about it but also still sorta... there, as this is before they got completely overshadowed by the surge of new fans coming in from an increasingly amibitious production who were not versed in comic lore & therefore did not know nor care about Simon Williams, Wonder Man.

Anyway, I made it my mission to learn more about this guy because of my involvement with Vision & because it's just generally weird when you discover your favourite has an entire twin brother who had not one, not two, but three whole solo title runs where he headlines the comic (by the way, if you're not counting Vision & the Scarlet Witch or Ultimate Vision, is more solo runs than what 616 Vision has.) and appeared in comics almost 5 years before Vision was ever a thought on Roy Thomas' mind or before the man was even fucking hired at marvel. Needless to say, I became obsessed, and as of writing this am on my second comprehensive readthrough of every issue he's appeared in since debut in Avengers Vol 1 #9.

This out of the way, here is my very long & indulgent essay on why I think Wonder Man is great, subversive & when done right, a really good commentary on comics generally, with some vague gestures that I really hope some of these aspects will live on in the fabled Wonder Man series which I'm almost convinced is a psy-op to get me to do more unpaid work analysing Simon fuckin' Williams.

First point of this; Simon is an evil Superman. We've seen this trope a lot recently but I think it's always been a concept since conceptualisation of a character like Superman. A character must have an adversary for conflict, and while villains serve that purpose well initially, eventually the Man vs Man conflict enters into play; for what is more potentially crippling than ourselves?

Now, Simon isn't actually evil (usually), which kind of knocks him out as a proper evil Superman, but he is certainly a failed one. Superman gets his powers from the sun & from birthright, being the sole (ish) survivor of a tragedy that wiped out almost all of his people. It's what he chooses to do with these powers that truly define the character; his innate compassion & kindness towards others. Simon gets his powers after getting bribed from a weird Norse goddess after getting arrested for embezzling, and then gets experimented on & subsequently empowered by a weird Nazi scientist. He does betray these guys almost immediately after realising hey, maybe the Norse goddess & Nazi scientist don't have the best outcomes in mind for the Avengers, but still, it's not a flattering start to the character.

In Superman comics, his powers are something great that he has to be careful where he applies them to do good for other people, to create the best possible outcome for others. For Simon, they're something he's quite literally bribed into, experimented on with a definite lack of strong consent, & is unfamiliar with & doesn't even really use for good when he formally joins the Avengers. They're not something he works towards through intellect like Hank Pym and Tony Stark, it's an unnatural state for him to be in that kind of informs his actions unlike Vision & Thor, and it's kind of an accident he ended up as incredibly overpowered & superman-like as he has.

At the core of the character, there's this skeevy, unearned way in which he gains his powers, and there's this element that Simon doesn't even want them in the first place which I think get's stronger after his secondary character trait becomes defined. It's interesting, in that he sort of more simiarly references Beast in his power acquistion, of making a stupid decision in a moment of panic, drinking the beaker of glowing green/allowing yourself to get bailed out by some random woman you don't know but knows you well enough to bail you out, and having to deal with powers far greater & lifechanging than what you intitially wanted. Of course, in publication dates it's more like Beast references him, but either way it's an avenue I'm suprised no writer has taken their friendship.

Simon is also an evil Superman because ultimately, there's no nobility or inherent desire to help people that Simon has. At least not in the same way. Clark Kent will throw himself in front of every danger he can to protect those without the invulnerable skin or flight or eye lazers, and even his day job is protecting free speech & informing the people. Simon has a noted anxiety disorder in almost every fight he's in when he's first in consistent Avengers publication, and was raised an entitled rich kid who embezzled everything away & tried to run with the cash when things fell apart. His nobility was only achieved in his death, giving up so the Avengers could survive, and he's rewarded for that narratively with... a near crippling fear of death & of dying that prohibits him a lot from standing up or applying himself. In all fairness, he does get over this in ways, but it still remains something worth talking about; Simon has to work way harder, in my opinion, to act as a good person, that Superman, but even in universe, than the person who's brainwaves / soul they share, Vision. You know, there's a reason why Simon has murdered people in two separate comics by two separate writers in two mainline 616 comics in cold blood, and they fit in with his character & not just edgy bait for Superman or alternate universe shit. Simon is an incredibly anxious, very privileged boy who tries to scheme his way out of bankruptcy, fails, gets powers he can't imagine, and immediately dies & stays dead for like 13 years, and when he returns is a nervous wreck. It makes sense that Simon is easy to trick emotionally or, when just having a bad day, might punch too hard & kill someone. He was doing this in 1991.

Why is Simon like this? Well now we get into the other cornerstone of many evil Supermen, and indeed many general evil comic men; bad parents. It's not fair to say this only applies to villains, as many, many heroes can attest, having bad parents is not a trait exclusive to the baby-eating genocidal manics. That said, the ratio of villains having a happy & prosperous childhood to heroes is quite staggering. Superman is always notable for his origin with Ma & Pa Kent in Smallville, to the point of which they made a very long tv show just about Smallville Superman. Superman grew up to loving parents. Simon grew up to an abusive father & to a mother, who while loved him, never seemed to be able to connect with him before Simon died in the way she'd wished possible. Clark Kent grows up in Smallville, a well-named small town in Kansas. Simon grows up wealthy, the heir to a well-off company in New Jersey. Clark Kent's background unquestionably influences him as a person, his values and his interactions, and ... Simon's can, and almost does, but obviously the bar for consistency in background isn't as high for random C-List Avenger Wonder Man than the single most archetypal hero ever, Superman.

See, Simon being a victim of abuse both at the hands of his father and at the hands of his brother have very interesting potential implications for his relationship with afterforementioned Vision. The reason why I found nothing about Simon in my standard Scarlet Witch and Vision centered fandom experience is because he's an asshole to them. Specifically, in the John Byrne WCA run, the tragic ending of the long time staple of Avengers B-plots that was Wanda Maximoff and her synthetic robot lover, the Vision. Specifically, he doesn't give Vision back their emotions & memories when Wanda asks him too, because he has a crush on her and that gives him the right to effectively ensure the death of his own sibling & Wanda's spouse, something that yeah, will definitely make her start viewing you as a potential boyfriend. I think there's a very interesting potential narrative here about cycles of abuse & how in his own relationship with Vision, Simon becomes the perpetuater of the abuse rather than the victim. He gets into a big aggressive fight with Vision during the events of Operation: Galactic Storm, and even says right there and then that he considers Vision... his child. You would think with such a big weird statement that there would be a narrative about how both Simon & his brother, Eric were abused by Sanford, and how Eric in turn and as a response abused Simon. It would say a lot about Simon's relationship to the very concept of brotherhood & fatherhood, but it's just a bizarre throwaway line in a random event nobody remembers and there's just this entire fucking decade where Simon does a completely 180 in characterisation and there is zero effort to explAIN OR EVEN TALK ABOUT THE FACT THAT IT HAPPENED, WE JUST SWEEP IT UNDER THE RUG EXCEPT FOR MULLET FLASHBACKS, I FUCKING HATE JOHN BYRNE SO GDDAMN MU--

Another element to consider; even beyond just being personally unfit for the job of Superman, Simon has other engagements. Simon has dreams of being on the silver screen, a big movie star! This is probably the second thing you know about Simon other than the relationship to Vision & Wanda; he's an actor, and trying to make it big. This is often either played as Simon just being a sellout with no artistic integrity, or Simon actually having too much integrity, and struggling in an industry that takes big action sequences over moving, heartfelt Shakespearean dramas or whatever. Whatever the case, what makes Simon feel different to other similar characters in my opinion is that the superhero gig is the day job he puts up with to support his REAL love, acting. What makes some of Simon's contemporary depictions unfulfilling is that they swap them to the more conventional way, that he's bogged down in acting work but really wants to be taking on Galactus. This is a problem we run into where Simon is given an opportunity to be a genuinely interesting character subverting very common tropes & doing it well & in a satisfying way, only for the next schmuck who just got Simon's name out of a random hat of names and did whatever they saw written on the Wonder Man tin; shit Superman.

Not only does Simon not have a heroic origin of his powers, not only is he as a person is fundamentally unsuited to superheroics because he refuses to go to therapy, but Simon doesn't even have enough committment to the superhero gig to make it his primary job, instead choosing acting, which isn't even something he has a stake in. It's a completely new field for him, and as Simon soon learns, the world of acting is not as welcome to a complete newcomer & novice with very little actual professional work to his name. Not only does he effectively give up being an Avenger to persue acting, he's not even that good an actor. Simon has powers he doesn't want, is associated with a team he doesn't really want to be in, and puts all his eggs in the acting success basket and really it's a miracle it takes Deadpool to officially bankrupt him. We open up with his first ever appearance with him getting arrested & found guilty of embezzlement, it's not like he's established to be financially safe or intelligent with his money.

Simon, I genuinely think, fits the bill as an evil Superman. I mean, he's even got a solely red & black colour scheme with a weird trademarked symbol on the chest. He is the opposite of Clark Kent in so many ways, and yet somehow... tries to be heroic? And hero Simon is way more interesting than villain Simon, I mean, that's why after the character reaches the end of his arc in Wonder Man '91 he almost immediately just fucking blows up in literal issue 1 of Force Works until Kurt Busiek, an obvious big fan of the 70s & early 80s stuff brings him back completely reimagined and firmly established as a good guy, evil Simon is just too obvious a route. What keeps me coming back to this character enough to do two comprehensive readthroughs though, is the fact that in being so much an apparent antithesis of Clark Kent, he's a subversion of most comic book hero tropes, while remaining a hero. Were this character created today, I imagine after coming back he would just stay... an antagonist. Red & black colour scheme, yup, disinterest in helping others, yup, horrible traumatic upbringing, yup, an arguably power-hungery acquistion of his abilities, yup, antagonistic relationship to a primary coloured, established heroic character, in The Vision. In fact, I think having a gothier, more evil big brother archetype in the Grim Reaper / Eric Williams is a contributing factor as to why Simon ends up a surpisingly nuanced portrayal of the conventions of the superhero genre and how a character who goes against that can still be a hero when he's given time to breathe & not given a random time travel / future plot mixed with Big Brother, thanks Peter David--

Simon Williams, Wonder Man, is to me the best case scenario when rehashing old ideas. It clearly wasn't LeeKirby who figured "yeah let's bring back the guy we created to die in issue 9 of Avengers", but as time went on & more ideas were tacked on but never really expanded upon it's created this incredible incident where we have a bunch of really good ideas in a shared soul in a gay anxious ball of ionic energy who has tricked itself into sentient thought and an android associated with Marvel's first Human Torch who is also famous for their connection to the now incredibly recognisable Scarlet Witch. Simon is the evil Superman trope, but a hero still. Simon is a failed actor who actively prefers that to being an Avenger. He doesn't like helping people and has panic attacks and stops fighting vs supervillains more than once. His best friend is furry ape mutant who he's got this bizarre sexual dynamic with. He's dating Carol Danvers & Scarlet Witch, but his position as a C-List character means he's fundamentally never going to have a real shot with them, and he seems narratively relieved whenever they break it off. He's related to an evil necromancer with a scythe hand who abused him as a kid & felt so bad about that he dedicated his life to bringing Twink Simon back without ever changing his relationship dynamics with Simon when he comes back. And yet Simon remains often a footnote, and occasionally gets some focus when people remember he was supposed to have gotten Hulk to a stalemate once. Thanks again, Peter David.

I'm not insane enough to argue that Simon was secretly Marvel's best character all along. Most of this is honestly due to Simon being too obscure to majorly fuck up because that would require insider knowledge. These are just mind-bogglingly happy accidents that resulted in an actually okay deconstruction of the evil Superman trope like 20, 30 years before that was actually the thing to do. Simon is a character honestly prime to enter the spotlight, which is exactly why it’s so terrifying it’s happening. On one hand, largely what we have heard about the production & rumours surrounding the show is positive. We have an established actor in the comic book adaptation genre, and experienced writers in comedies. On the other hand, Simon is not a major enough character to attract ire if core aspects of him are lost, and I will mourn certain things that may be lost like the evil Superman of it all, the fact that Simon was pretty much established Jewish in 2005 & has a history of queer-coding that warrants it’s own post that I may one day get brave enough to write, with certainly more panel input than this. I don’t think Simon is a character with genius writing or implementation, but I strongly believe he has potential. There are so many potential storylines just by asking the fundamental question, “What if Superman was gay and had an anxiety disorder and was also a theatre kid and actively avoided the Justice League?”. The answer, somehow, is Simon Williams, and that’s an opportunity for stories that Marvel has sat on for a while, and while this may start to change I am wary of getting my hopes up about a character who I initially was calling D List when I first started writing this.

Ultimately, Simon Williams is what most characters are; a character glued together by fan speculation & connecting the dots from various storylines to make an attempt at a linear narrative when the writers do not care and will continue to not care. Still, I found that, as fans of Vision and Scarlet Witch, but also as an Ant-Man fan, the reaching I have to do to make everything in Simon's publication make sense is me hunched over my laptop like I am right now compared to the ritualistic intensive yoga I have to do to make the 90s & 2000s make any sort of interpretation of those other characters intelligible. Simon is a character with a rare potential in comic books; to make sense. Maybe not by ordinary standards but it's easier to argue that Simon would recreate a toxic relationship with his sibling who he considers a child given his own relationship to his elder brother & father, than whatever horse shit Avengers Disassembled & House of M are supposed to be. I want to believe badly that this vision is getting seen; why else would Simon get three different solo series & an entire fucking show with an actual good actor if there wasn't some understanding that this was a potentially interesting character. I want to believe. so badly.

This is my end, I guess, & I'll say that if you're interested in any specific sources for something I've said send an ask & I'll dig out the panel somewhere. A problem with reading a character with exactly 666 appearances in like, one month like I did the first time around meant I didn't save a lot & limits of my technology that haven't translated well to where I am now. My second time around, I'm being much more methodical with posting panels, which you can see in @wonderbeast if you're interested. But I'll be happy to dig out Marvel Premiere or Avengers V1 #184 or #15 of Wonder Man (1991) for you. Really. It's fans like us who REALLY make this company go around & man I'm not letting marvel forget that. Especially with an MCU project attached.

Looking back, he was never really the “goal”. She had convinced herself she needed him by her side. Always there. Him comforting her while she waited for death in her hospital bed.

Now, he was there by her side.

Silence.

The phantom does not speak.

It all began when she saw him. Even after the disease reduced her sight to blurry, unidentifiable, ghostly shapes, she saw him. The “dragonfly”. Somehow, her “sight” was in that room with him.

What did she find in him exactly?

A lot of lovely things could be said -nice, loyal-, but the truth was -and still is- not so romantic.

Kirie Fujou just wanted someone, anyone, to give a damn about her.

It’s been 10 years since that day. Crash. The exact details have been blurred with time, but she remembers that her family died in that car accident. Does she even remember their faces? Beep, beep. Some unspecified disease. Heart monitor beeping. Tumors this, nothing we can do that. Beep, beep. She should have been dead long ago, but her body somehow refused to die. The nurses called it a “gift”. Yet, she remained crippled and blind. The “gift” only prolonged the pointlessness. Beep, beep. Only her hair remained “healthy”, constantly growing, as if it was a shapeless calendar. Hey, it’s been 10 years. You are lucky to still be here. No one visits. No one cares.

Beep, beep.

The only confort was that window. A view of the city. Would be nice if she could fly out of here. One day, she began seeing that view as if her sight somehow came back. But it didn’t. A second field of vision? There might not be a way to put it into words properly.

She kept looking into that room with that sight. The “dragonfly” always came back there. Was this how someone in love acts? Looking back, he might have been as obsessed as her.

Why did she even begin to mentally call him “dragonfly”? Maybe something to do with those dreams of flying. Flying, floating, falling. She was a “butterfly”, slow, clumsy, crippled, useless, probably fated to die in a couple days. He was the “dragonfly”, fast, agile, actually having a reason to be there.

Not that it matters much now. The “dragonfly” is now stuck with the “butterfly”. Well, after what happened, you can’t really call it a “butterfly” anymore. Are there any monstrous butterflies? “Moth”? No, moths do not carry sins as horrid as hers. What was that moth that sucked blood called? Vampire moths? Oh, “calyptra”. Yes, that was her new name in this pointless bug analogy. Why stop there though? Let’s name all of them. The seven -now five- schoolgirls are now the “bees”. The demon that nearly killed her is now the “mantis”. The first visitor is now the “dung beetle”. And the visitor that had all the right in the world to kill her but did not is the “spider”.

It’s stupid to call them these names. But it being stupid makes her forget that they had names.

The “dung beetle” was the one of the few that got out. She never found out what he looked like. Her second sight seemed to avoid her own room. Don’t worry, second sight. It’s just a pile of tumors. It won’t hurt you.

It might hurt you after the “dung beetle” is done.

The “dung beetle” claimed to be a… what did he say, exactly? Magician? Wizard? Sorcerer? It doesn’t really matter. He just fully awakened something she had, and then left.

He never came back.

After the “dung beetle” left, her second sight became a second body. But she did not understand that at the moment. Finding yourself at that decrepit building that used to belong to your family, floating, going through walls has to be a dream? It had to be her brain joking about how much she looks like the ghost from that movie.

Then, the first “bee”.

She had found a girl wandering near that decrepit building, the “hive”. The only thing that remained of her family. Decrepit, ruined. Just like her real body.

The girl was of teenage age, probably some schoolgirl. Can’t she see me? I’m here.

“Hey, look at me.”

Crunch. First “bee”.

Why didn’t she try to figure out what had happened? Why did she have to try it a second time?

And a third and a fourth and a…

It was a dream, right? Surely she can’t be here as some sort of remote-controlled ghost that makes people want to jump off buildings.

Those reports in the radio about suicides have to be a coincidence, right? It’s just a nightmare she got from hearing that news, right?

Maybe the first few were an accident. But she knew the others weren’t.

Kirie had been alone in that room for 10 years. A bunch of schoolgirl ghosts following the second body at the “hive” was an improvement over her current situation.

Why schoolgirls? Did she forget that she is 27 years old?

Oh right, 10 years in a room. Nothing to do. She is still an imbecile teenager, isn’t she?

The “bees” only followed. They were completely and utterly braindead. Should have called them “puppets”, but that’s not a bug.

How did it even work? The first ones have been a “hey, I’m here”. The others were a “join me”. Maybe it was like her second body. A projection. The starved “calyptra” projects a hologram, a ghost. The “calyptra” and the ghost project a thought. An idea. A suggestion.

Maybe she actually wanted to be the one falling.

There had to be something more than just making people fall. What if she used it slowly? Or a different suggestion. Would whoever got too close to the “hive” keep their brain when they became a “bee”?

What if she tried it on the “dragonfly”?

And so the “dragonfly” went to sleep. And stayed asleep.

And the “mantis” came.

The “mantis” was only there for the “dragonfly”. The “mantis” did not care about her.

The first time the “mantis” came to the “hive”, she noticed one of the arms was fake. So she tried making it drag her to fall, but she cut it off.

The second time, she killed one of her “bees”. Her companions, her only friends. So she projected what she had been projecting all this time.

Except, it wasn’t “come with me”.

“Fall”

The “mantis” has no attachment to life or death, so it did not work. Another friend goes down. Try the arm again. The arm can project itself like she does with her second body? What the hell is the “mantis”? The “calyptra” got caught. The arm can touch the phantom. It strangles. The “bees” just float around. The “mantis” is dragging the “calyptra” closer to eat her.

When she made the “dragonfly” sleep, she hadn’t really used the “I am here / come with me / fall”. More of a “sleep / wait for me”. So, she had to try something else.

“It’s your fault”

The “mantis” stops crushing her throat with that arm. The “calyptra” repeats the trick from the first time, and the arm claws at the “mantis”.

She won’t fall, so finish it up here.

“It’s your fault”. The “mantis”’ confidence is gone, replaced with nothing. Blank as the “bees”. The “mantis” grips the knife, but the tip does not aim at the “calyptra”.

It’s safe now.

Take the “dragonfly”.

“You can come here now”

He comes after a bit, his body merely giving up.

Braindead.

“Bee”.

She heard the news again. Somebody died in that cursed building again, this time on the roof.

Kirie had realized it was not a dream a while ago, but she now accepted it.

Murderer.

The vampire moth had sucked all the blood of the other bugs.

Crushed, bloodied corpses on the floor. The knife goes through the woman, and the body breaks down instantly. The arm detaches, gears, flesh, blood and water spilling out. A man stops breathing.

Her fault.

Maybe she should fall too.

But she just stayed in that bed. Her mind still went to her second body. But she just stayed motionless in the air. Don’t look at the “bees”. Or the “mantis”. Or the “dragonfly”.

The “calyptra” just stood still, not wanting to taste more blood.

One day, the “hive”, no, the Fujou Building got torn down. The “calyptra” just accepted it and floated away.

There’s nothing left for her there.

So she just stays above the hospital now. Nowhere to go.

The “spider” visited one day. No anger over what she had done. Just a few questions, and then left.

“It’s a mistake to choose your path based upon the sins that you carry. We don’t choose our path based on the sins that we carry, but we must bear our sins on the path we choose.”

Hard to do that when your sins are literally following you around.

The days pass. The “calyptra” just waits for her real body to finally fail. The second body stays still above the hospital. No one sees it.

No one in the hospital knows what happened.

More days. Her body is still diseased, but it does not die. Her vision is still useless. She still needs that wheelchair to move, and there’s nowhere to move to.

Death is not coming anytime soon.

Maybe she should seek it?

She already knows how she would like to do it.

A long fall from a place overlooking the world. Just like her seven victims. It would be poethic to do it at the Fujou Building, but it doesn’t exist anymore. Oh, well. The hospital would do.

While pushing her wheelchair towards the elevator, she senses something. She does not see it. But she knows it’s there, just like how she knows where the second body is. Except, this presence does not belong to her.

Shapeless. Hungry.

Somehow, she understood what it was. Maybe because it was similar to her. With one key difference.

Their real bodies were gone.

A blue fog born from the patients that succumbed to their pains, craving to claim a new body to replace the one that the world took from them. It didn’t think. It just desires, and acts accordingly.

“Wraith”.

No more bug analogies. Its name is “wraith” because it is a wraith.

The wraith ignores her. Why would it want a body as broken as hers? It goes to a nearby room, and crawls/floats closer to a patient.

She doesn’t know the patient, yet she decides to act.

The second body phases through the room’s ceiling, and calls to the wraith.

“Fall/fade/come with me”

There is no fall. The wraith just abandons its will to keep going. It fades away.

What now?

The patient is still asleep. They will never know what just happened here.

“It’s a mistake to choose your path based upon the sins that you carry. We don’t choose our path based on the sins that we carry, but we must bear our sins on the path we choose.”

She finds it dumb, but… can she stay to keep the wraiths away?

The wraiths are just like she was. A phantom stealing what does not belong to them over an impossible dream.

But, she can reflect.

Oh god, does she find it dumb. Don’t worry about the wraiths, a much worse ghost is here to save the day!

Kirie Fujou makes her choice.

“You know, you were right… He never belonged to me.”

Silence.

“I don’t know if I can ever apologize for that day.”

Silence.

“Looking back, he was never the goal. I just wanted someone to be to me what he was to you.”

Silence.

“You were right that night, I was demonic.”

Silence.

“I considered jumping off the roof.”

Silence.

“But I decided to stay. I want to leave, but I should stay. To atone.”

Silence.

“I don’t think I’ll ever understand what she and that man wanted from me.”

Silence.

“But I’ll try to fix what I can.”

Silence.

“You know, she told me your names”.

Silence.

“I’m sorry, Shiki and Mikiya”.

The reminders of her sins are still silent. They are utterly braindead. They are not the people they used to be, just a hologram with their faces.

Maybe she could make them go. But she chooses not to. They stay alongside her, as a reminder of what she carries.

They stay floating alongside the calyptra hologram.
