SO.. Halloween 2018 is actually quite good and I enjoy it more than the original now that I've finally worked up the courage to watch it đź‘Ť I wish the color grading and the film and the vibes emulated the original a bit better because , like, obviously aesthetically a 70s film will win out for me. Period end of. But the way the characters were written in H2018 were so endearing and felt like real people (especially the kids/teens! I FELT something when they died!!) the plot moved at faster than Michael himself's average walking speed, and the emotional hooks were SO much better. I feel like you could watch H2018 without seeing the original and still understand Laurie's trauma and her choices and empathize with them.. the family's struggle to enter the future while shackled to the past -- and the way allowing the past to inform the future ended up letting them all survive in the end... Laurie's validation and the connection she, her daughter, and her granddaughter all shared by the end.. the commentary on true crime and our obsession with woobifying these monstrous people, all while we neglect the broken victims they left behind... I can't believe how much I really loved this movie. I will definitely be rewatching it soon and looking for more.
i would be remiss, however, if I didn't mention that obviously the original was precisely that- an original film. John Carpenter's vision was fresh and his writing / directing / composing was incredible in a way I can't really appreciate having been born roughly 20 years after it came out, in the era of remakes and sequels and the overall world's exhaustion with the genre. Halloween 1978 set the tone and everything afterward was trying to emulate it, whether I like it or not, and its success allowed films that I love far, far more to be made -- even to be conceptualized. I can't love Scream 1996 without recognizing how Halloween LITERALLY paved the way for it to exist. (The film itself even plays a role in the final act of the film!!) There's something to this genre that really fascinates me, and while H1978 may not be my favorite or even in my top 10 rewatched slashers, it's difficult for me to say H2018 is "better" because it stands firmly on the foundation of not just its predecessor , but ALL of the films in between.
It's so cool that it was a standalone film and didn't have any sequels either! Just Halloween and Halloween, nothing else :>>>>>>

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1996) was gritty and horrifying and somehow both a great movie and a terrible one. It felt much more like a true sequel to TCM 1 & 2 than the 1990 movie did, because it gave us new ideas to play with and new characters to examine. It also felt much more deeply rooted in the 90′s aesthetic, whereas the 1990 movie felt more generic. Not strongly one decade or the other.
First you get a group of four friend speeding away from their senior prom. The bimbo (the film treats her poorly :/ but i love her) is made at her boyfriend for cheating on her. The boyfriend says, “Ugh, you’re so controlling. If dudes don’t have sex, they get prostate cancer. Trust me my dad’s a doctor.” The weed-smoking nerd girl goes “that’s literally not true.” The bimbo goes, “no he’s right, what if he gets cancer cause I’m not having sex with him?”
Anyways. They crash with another motorist and get stranded on the side of the road. They decide to split up.The bimbo, her boyfriend, and her weed-smoking friend find an office trailer where they meet Darla, another bimbo who is an absolute delight and absolutely fucking insane. She talks at length about her new boob job. When a truck of dudes throw a brick through her window, she laughs and flashes them. She calls them a tow truck. The tow truck driver, who is Matthew McConaughy, shows up to the car and kills the unconscious motorist and the remaining kid in a deeply terrifying scene.
The three kids wander through the forest. The bimbo is kidnapped by Leatherface, the boyfriend is chainsawed down, and the weed-smoking nerd girl is kidnapped by Matthew McConaughy. Everyone is screaming, including the murder family. At the obligatory TCM family dinner, a dude named Rothman shows up and shames Matthew McC for being bad at causing horror (??), licks the nerd girl’s face, and leaves. Bewildering. Matthew kills the bimbo and the nerd girl seizes the shotgun. She can’t make the family stop yelling at each other long enough to actually listen to her though, so she escapes out the window (yes bitch!!)
Rothman picks her up in a limousine and apologizes, saying that this experience was supposed to be transcendental. She tells him to fuck off.
I don’t even know what to say about this movie overall. There were a lot of wonderful moments. There were a lot of shitty moments. I felt like this was the first movie to exploit women’s bodies, and the movie does shame the women who are sexual. However, I do love seeing bimbos do whatever they want to do. #support women. Matthew McC gave an incredible performance. Ranting and raving is truly what he’s born to do. Leatherface is in a dress and a long curly wig, and it feels even more transphobic than usual. Very Buffalo Bill. However, his family loves and supports him!
This is definitely a move that I feel complicated feeling about. I, as usual, have fallen in love with the murder family, and they’re a pretty good metaphor for the queer experience. You have a better time with this movie if you root for them. It’s hard to rate this, because I think it’s a pretty bad movie, but I love it. 7/10 please I need to talk to more people about this

How A Younger Singaporean Copes with the Ongoing Value of Continual Sickness
For those who met Wendy (not her actual title) on the road, there isn’t any approach you possibly can inform that she’s completely different from any wholesome 20-something Singaporean.
However over the previous three years, Wendy has been coping with an as-yet-undiagnosed persistent medical situation that causes debilitating migraines, dizziness and double imaginative and prescient.
Wendy has been seeing a number of GPs, TCM clinics and checking out and in of hospitals for the previous three years, racking up greater than $15,000 in medical payments in these three years.
How did she find yourself spending $15,000?
Over time, Wendy has been to the physician’s, TCM clinic and hospitals extra instances than she will be able to bear in mind.
Though she has not been monitoring her medical bills faithfully (“as a result of the figures scare me,” she admits), she was in a position to present a few of the main ones beneath:
Merchandise No. of instances Value GP session Numerous $38 x ? = ??? Going to A&E four instances $150 x four = $600 Hospitalisation (2 nights) three instances $2,000 x three = $6,000 MRI scan three instances $800 x three = $2,400 Blood patch therapy 1 time $720 Estimated whole $15,000
These figures don’t embody the extra minor prices comparable to TCM remedies and the numerous treatment she has taken thus far. These vary from prosaic painkillers and nausea / dizziness capsules, to antidepressants to steroids.
At this age, most of us wouldn’t consider setting apart such a sum — not less than $5,000 a 12 months — to pay for medical bills. So how did Wendy afford it?
  1. Choosing the proper hospital ward
Though the prices of frequent GP visits and medicine add up slowly and steadily, it’s hospitalisation that actually takes an enormous hit on the funds.
Wendy was hospitalised three instances prior to now three years. Other than being charged for the size of her keep (ward and physician’s charges, for instance), she was subjected to a battery of pricey scans and assessments each time she was hospitalised.
“They ran all types of assessments,” mentioned Wendy. “MRIs, CT scans, PET scans, nerve assessments, muscle assessments, X-rays, eye assessments, blood assessments and lumbar punctures.”
Not one of the check outcomes had been important sufficient to level to a doable trigger, however, nonetheless, she was billed for every of them.
Though Wendy was briefed on her anticipated medical bills earlier than being hospitalised, it was nonetheless an enormous shock when she obtained her first hospital invoice.
“I had no thought the whole lot price a lot,” she mentioned of the unsubsidised charges.
She managed to acquire greater subsidies by choosing a Class C ward every time she stayed. After subsidies, these added as much as about $2,000 every time.
Though staying in a better class ward will get you a extra “hotel-like” expertise and maybe extra personalised care, hospitals cost greater (much less subsidised) charges for many who select these wards.
  2. Figuring out your MediShield Life protection
Wendy’s ongoing healthcare prices are partially offset by her MediShield Life protection, which is the obligatory medical insurance that covers each Singaporean and PR.
Having been by way of pre-hospitalisation monetary briefings a number of instances, Wendy is properly conscious of what MediShield Life does and doesn’t cowl, and what the protection limits are.
In accordance with Wendy, it’s throughout this obligatory briefing that patients-to-be are advised concerning the estimated whole prices and given an summary of their monetary choices, i.e., how a lot could be offset by MediShield Life / medical insurance, how a lot could be paid by Medisave, and the way a lot to high up in money.
“The method is definitely fairly fuss-free for presidency hospitals,” she mentioned. “For those who’re nice with the estimated invoice, you may be requested to signal consent types for deducting from Medisave. Nothing is finished with out your consent.”
In case you are not in a position to afford the hospital invoice, you could be referred to a different unit for monetary help.
Since Wendy is conscious of her MediShield Life declare limits, she opts to remain in Class C wards.
three. Opting in to make use of Medisave
Throughout the pre-hospitalisation briefing, other than studying about MediShield Life protection, Wendy was additionally prompted to signal consent types to make use of her Medisave to pay for her payments.
“You may both agree to make use of Medisave simply this one time, or to routinely use Medisave in your subsequent visits,” she mentioned.
Having gone by way of varied remedies and assessments, she additionally learnt that Medisave has completely different withdrawal limits for various procedures. “For MRIs, I needed to pay for the additional as they solely permit us to make use of as much as $600 from Medisave every year.”
For anybody with a persistent sickness, it is very important evaluation the limits of MediSave and ensure you are financially geared up to high up any extra in money.
In Wendy’s case, the mixture of MediShield Life and Medisave lowered her out-of-pocket bills to about $eight,000 prior to now three years. With out the two schemes, she would have wanted to pay about $15,000 in money.
What about CHAS for persistent ailments?
I requested Wendy what she considered the upcoming CHAS inexperienced tier (to be launched in Nov 2019), the place the healthcare subsidy scheme will probably be prolonged to cowl all Singaporeans with persistent medical circumstances, no matter their earnings.
However after we seemed by way of the checklist of persistent ailments coated underneath CHAS, Wendy thought that none of them would apply to her.
In any case, since her situation continues to be undiagnosed, she wouldn’t be capable of utilise any subsidies underneath CHAS.
She was not bothered by the truth that the federal government scheme doesn’t cowl her.
“I can perceive why some individuals would possibly hope the checklist of persistent ailments could possibly be prolonged to cowl them,” she mentioned. “However for me, I feel it’s nice.”
That is partly as a result of Wendy is conscious that a few of these widespread persistent illnesses price quite a bit to deal with in comparison with her. Citing an acquaintance with kidney failure for instance, she mentioned: “Just some capsules can price him over $100. However for me, $100 is sufficient to cowl a number of months’ value of treatment.”
  Non-recoverable prices to her profession
Along with the price of healthcare, Wendy’s persistent well being situation additionally had a major impression on her profession and incomes capacity.
This was particularly the case on the onset of her signs, which occurred when she was already burnt out from her earlier high-stress job. Having a brand new mysterious sickness to diagnose solely made it worse.
“I used to be not in a position to carry out in addition to earlier than or to commit totally,” she mentioned. So she ultimately resigned.
Having paid off her research mortgage, Wendy didn’t have any hefty monetary burdens at the moment, so she was in a position to depart her job and minimize off her earnings stream to deal with her sickness.
Today, Wendy is employed once more, however with a smaller paycheck. “I’m again with the identical firm however working as a senior officer as an alternative of a managerial position, with fewer duties and fewer pay.”
Although her earnings was little question affected by her well being, Wendy is okay with the discount in pay. It additionally helps that she is now clear along with her colleagues about her well being and feels empowered to take relaxation days when she feels the necessity to.
Wendy could also be fortunate sufficient to search out an understanding employer, however not each employer is identical. There are undoubtedly some who would see a sickly workers member as an costly or troublesome rent.
