On the lookout for some new ships/fandoms for fanfics
I do not intend to read/watch the source material.
I'm only on the search for good fanfics.
Like, I haven't watched a single episode of Teen Wolf, but read around 500 fics, after Coley mentioned in one of her vids that they have good fanfics. They do.
The thing is I'm not really interested in spending time with whatever canon since I don't have time to watch hours of stuff with only a bit of the-good-stuff™ in it. But I love reading fanfics and found it quite fun to get to know new characters through basically only AUs.
If someone can recommend some really good fics for me that'd be awesome!
Here a list of some ships I read:
Johnlock
Clintasha (Marvel)
Stony
WinterIron
IronStrange
Sterek
Spuffy (BtVS)
Kaz/Inej (Six of Crows)
Hiccstrid
Joey/Pacey (Dawson's Creek)
Ren/Kyouko (Skip Beat)
Haruhi/Kyouya (OHHC)
Obi/Shirayuki
MariChat and the rest of the square
Draco/Hermione
Elizabeth/Mr.Darcy
I read a few Arthur/Merlin but I don't think those were really good ones or they just aren't a good pair for me (but I think they could be)
might read some Scully/Mulder soon
I love me a clever, sarcastic one (Tony, Sherlock, Stiles, Hiccup, Elizabeth) paired with a brave not-quite-himbo (Bucky, John, Derek, Astrid, Mr.Darcy)
Angst, Slow Burn, Enemies to Friends to Lovers, Friends to Lovers... stuff like that
So... Tell me about some good ships! Please!

The Last Yura Shigure, Chapter 1
“Ready, Ryuu?” Shirayuki asks, hands full of parchment and pen, her excitement beginning to brim over. “We should be arriving any time now.”
A look out the carriage window makes her wish she could throw it open and breathe in the salted air, light dancing across the ocean’s surface more than serving as an invitation. Her colleague clearly does not feel the same.
“Are you sure that we will be fine on our own?”
Despite the calm nature of his voice, Shirayuki easily pinpoints the finger nervously tapping his knee. Ryuu had been hesitant to accept this assignment to begin with, so it's only natural he would fall prey to a few pre-survey jitters. If it was up to him, they’d be on their way east to the mountains of Tanbarun, not the southern territory of Yuri's Island.
Reaching out to slightly ruffle his hair, Shirayuki allows her hand to linger. “Absolutely. The two of us are quite the team, after all. We’ll be alright.” Her arm retracts protectively around the supplies in her lap when a bump in the dirt road almost sends it flying. “You aren’t still scared of those rumors, are you?”

The Crimson Lion
[Read on AO3]
The flickering candlelight danced upon the polished marble floors, casting a warm and inviting glow in the grand hall of Tanbarun Castle. Tense whispers could be heard from the staff as they rushed to complete their duties, ensuring that everything was perfect for the arrival of their esteemed guest.
A mixture of fear and determination swelled within her; she wasn’t sure how she was going to accomplish it, or how long it was going to take, but she vowed to find a way out of this predicament.
She belonged to no one.
or; If Shirayuki was captured by the royal guards before escaping Tanbarun. [Eventual ObiYuki] Notes:
An overwhelming Thank You to Kaedix for beta reading for me. Many apologies to Meefy for the shenanigans against your boy Raji.
Chapter 1: Beauty Bound and Besieged
Shirayuki had woken up that morning in a quaint herbal shop she called home. She had an early start that morning as she ventured out into the lush landscapes behind her house to forage, excited to get a good start to the day. She had traveled to her usual spots, plucking only enough to restock her supplies and to fulfill the orders she was expecting from her repeat clients, ensuring that she didn’t disrupt the flora and fauna enough to halt any growth.
She was running low on her tonics, but should be fine to fulfill her orders for today without issue while her new jars simmered overnight. The lavender she grabbed today would even be perfect for nearly a full restock, while still taking care of the sweet elderly woman next door for her sleep aides. The birds chirping above her blended in with the sound of glass chiming together in her bag with each step.
The tranquility was shattered when she walked back into the shop and was surprised by the appearance of royal guards.
"By the order of the first prince of Tanbarun, Lord Raji, you are to come with us," the leader of the guards declared, his voice carrying a weight that offered no refusal. Her instincts told her that resistance would only lead to trouble, but even still she placed her hands on her hips and held her head high.
"I haven't done anything wrong," she protested, her voice steady despite her inner turmoil. "Why am I being taken?"
The guard's gaze flickered to her fiery hair, his expression a blend of fascination and something more sinister, as if he were truly enjoying the moment. "Your hair, miss. It is requested by Prince Raji. He desires a woman of unparalleled beauty, and you fit the bill."
A chill ran down Shirayuki's spine. This was a nightmare she hadn't seen coming, but she should have. It had been so long since she had had an issue with her hair that she had become careless and comfortable.
As the guards began to close in on her, Shirayuki knew she had to act.
Without hesitation, she reached out to grab a bottle off the shelf on the wall next to her. "Sorry, emergency restocking!" Shirayuki exclaimed, throwing the crushed powder at their feet to create an opaque cloud in the center of the room. "Gotta run!" Seizing the moment, she sprinted towards the back door.
It wouldn’t take her long to get to the forest, and once there she was sure she could evade them. Her familiarity with the terrain would give her an advantage in hiding from them with their noisy shuffling armor. Her heart pounded in her chest as she slammed her upper body into the back door.
Eyes focused and facing forward, she missed the man waiting for her by the door. Before she realized the hitch in her plan someone grabbed her upper arm and held her back, her feet slipping out from under her from the loss of momentum.
“Look, we can do this the easy way, or the hard way. Regardless of which you choose, you will be coming with us.”
The marketplace seemed to blur around her as she was led through the lively streets and towards Tanbarun Castle. The people bustling around the road parted for the royal cavalcade, the nosy ones trying to get a peak at the person at the center. This wasn’t the first time her hair had gotten her into trouble of course, but it might have become the most severe situation yet. A mixture of fear and determination swelled within her; she wasn’t sure how she was going to accomplish it, or how long it was going to take, but she vowed to find a way out of this predicament.
She belonged to no one.
The flickering candlelight danced upon the polished marble floors, casting a warm and inviting glow in the grand hall of Tanbarun Castle. Tense whispers could be heard from the staff as they rushed to complete their duties, ensuring that everything was perfect for the arrival of their esteemed guest.
The courtyard buzzed as Shirayuki was ushered onto the grounds and into her chambers. The door was shut tight, the clicking of a key locking up the door behind her echoing in her ears. The grandeur of the suite was overwhelming, from the intricately carved furniture to the billowing silky curtains blowing into the room to remind her of her station.
A small group of maids stood ready on the far wall, their expressions a mix of curiosity and polite duty. Among them was a woman a few years older than the rest, dark hair pulled tight into a bun, a gentle smile on her face.
“Lady Shirayuki, I am Selene,” She introduced herself.
“We have been tasked with preparing you for your meeting with Prince Raji.”
No words came to her. She simply nodded in acknowledgment as she moved to take in her immediate surroundings. Her gaze swept over the multitudes of jewels, toiletries and garments arranged out for her on the nearby surfaces. This room alone held more value than she had ever seen in one place, and the thought that it was meant to be for her made her sick to her stomach.
With practiced efficiency, the maids encouraged Shirayuki into another room with gentle hands and soft chittering. The young women attempted to help Shirayuki disrobe, but she held out a hand to distance herself from them. Shaky hands completed the task as she kept her eyes down. Her initial discomfort gradually gave way to resignation as she lowered into the warm water. A mixture of fragrant oils and flower petals caressed her skin as she closed her eyes, willing the moments to pass quickly.
Once the spongebath was complete, Selene led her to a dressing area where a gown of deep emerald green silk waited for her. The maids worked in harmony as they laced up the back of her dress quickly and quietly, pulling the material tight to her form.
Next she was ushered to a soft stool in front of a vanity, where Selene herself applied her makeup. A soft rose hue to her lips, her cheeks, and a subtle touch of dark coal to accentuate her eyes.
It didn’t take long for Shirayuki to lift a hand to rub at her eyes, but Selene gently tapped her wrist in disapproval before correcting any smudges that may have occurred.
Her hair was long, halfway down her back at least. So long that it took three women with towels to get it dry enough to style it as jewels were placed on her neck and wrists. Her bangs were left alone, along with the slightly longer tendrils that framed her face. The remainder was done in two braids that trailed her hairline back with the remainder put into a low bun.
"You truly are a vision, Miss Shirayuki," Selene complimented with a warm smile. "The gown suits you perfectly."
"Thank you, Selene," Shirayuki replied, trying to hide her discomfort with the tight material as she ran her hands down to smooth it out.
"Now, shall we proceed to the grand hall, where Prince Raji awaits?"
Is this really happening? I can't believe I'm being treated like some prized possession. “Uh… yes, I suppose it’s time.”
She wanted to remember the route they took, all of the twists and turns it took to get them to their destination, she really did, but after being assaulted by strange women, and being wrapped up like a gift for some arrogant royal, she was exhausted and just wanting to get through this event with as quickly as possible.
Raji stepped forward to meet her as she reached her destination, his posture exuding confidence as he extended his hand in greeting. "Welcome to Tanbarun Castle," he declared, his voice laced with an attempt at charm. "It is an honor to have you grace our halls."
"Thank you for your… hospitality," she replied politely, her tone neutral. As her hand hesitantly rose to be placed in his, she lifted her gaze to assess the man in front of her.
He was definitely his fathers son. While she did not care much for politics, she had seen him making announcements in the past. However while she couldn’t speak for the King, it seemed the Prince had a small beauty mark under his left eye.
“Ah, the famous red hair,” Raji mused, his tone a mixture of admiration and possessiveness as he raised his free hand to stroke her hair. “Truly a sight to behold. Yes, I do believe you will make a fitting concubine for me.”
Shirayuki's eyes widened in surprise as Raji suddenly snapped near her ear, straightening his posture with a grin. "Please, let us walk and get to know each other."
He took every opportunity to engage Shirayuki in conversation, attempting to win her over with tales of his kingdom's splendor and his own achievements. As much as he was focused on his words, it wasn’t hard to notice she was only offering the basic required responses to his tales.
They were walking through one of the many identical corridors when Raji stopped walking and turned to face her.
"I know you must hate me for bringing you here."
Shirayuki sighed softly, "It's not hate, Prince Raji. It's a desire to be free and live on my terms."
“Such a rare jewel should be protected, adorned, and worshiped, do you not agree?”
“My hair making me an oddity does not make me something to be possessed, and possessions don't define happiness. Hopefully one day you will realize that.”
Raji looked as if he were truly contemplating her words for a moment, before he snapped his fingers again and raised his fist in the air triumphantly. “I imagine once you become more comfortable here, and I give you everything you could possibly desire, you’ll see what life can truly be like!”
She did her best to remain composed and attentive, her responses measured and polite. Beneath her composed exterior, her thoughts were a whirlwind. No matter where her gaze rested, multiple guards were in her vision. Unsure of the path that had been set before her, and the complexities that lay ahead in the castle that was now her new home… She felt trapped.
Raji seemed fascinated by her; enjoyed listening to her talk of her running a business, and how she interacted with others outside of the palace. It truly was as if he was unfamiliar with a world that didn’t revolve around himself.
"You have such a captivating way of describing your life," Raji had remarked.
"Thank you, Prince Raji," Shirayuki replied. He's so oblivious to the real world... I wonder if he's ever faced any hardships.
As the days went on, Raji was getting more bold in his advances. It had started innocently enough, he asked if he could hold her hand. Since he so politely asked… Shirayuki had told him no.
That act of insubordination had earned her a split lip from Dain at the end of the night; the captain of the guards who had been so smug about stealing her away from her home in the first place. He always had a stupid proud grin on his face as he watched her walk about the palace.
The next time Raji got closer to her he bypassed her hand entirely, grabbed her waist with both hands and leaned in. Not to be deterred by Shirayuki turning her head, his wet lips came into contact with her cheek with a pleased moan.
She had learned to wait until she had passed by the captain before wiping her cheek on her sleeve.
It had now been a fortnight since her arrival at the palace, and today was one of the fortunate days that she had not been summoned to Rajis side.
The act of talking to Raji itself wasn’t terrible. For the most part, he was extremely receptive in conversation albeit naive. The issue with Raji was that he was always touching her. Always an arm wrapped around her waist as they walked, pulling her to his side when she managed to stray too far. Whenever he referred to her in front of others his hands always found themselves woven in her hair like it was an accessory to him.
"You are quite extraordinary, Shirayuki," Raji said, his tone unusually sincere.
"Thank you, Prince Raji," she replied. Despite the smile on her face, her eyes were always watching the movements of the guards in the rooms and where any open windows were located.
She was certain that it would be a while before the security developed some slack when it came to her presence, but it wouldn’t hurt to keep an eye out for patterns while she waited.
"I heard you've been exploring the castle gardens a lot lately," Chelle, the blonde chef in the kitchen commented with a knowing smile as she gracefully danced around the other staff in the kitchen working hard to prepare dinner. Shirayuki had found herself sitting on some crates in the corner of the kitchens during a lot of the free time when she was restricted to the palace walls. It was a peaceful chaos that felt very familiar to her.
"Yes, it's a little sanctuary, a small glimpse of the life I left behind." Shirayuki admitted.
“It’s a shame I never had the need for any medicine, it sounds like such a lovely place.”
“That’s a sweet thought, but I’m glad you didn’t come down with an illness just for that. I mean, I still technically own it for a few weeks. If you’re nearby you could probably peek in the windows?” A chuckle escaped her lips as she wanted Chelle unload a small box of potatoes onto the table in front of her, arms bordering the edges so that none fell on the floor, "Are you sure you don’t want help with that?”
Chelle pursed her lips, “You know you can’t get dirty in these dresses. If His Highness finds out you’ve been doing peasant work, he won't be pleased with either of us.”
“Prince Raji wont find out, I’ll be more careful this time… besides,” Shirayuki grinned. “I am a peasant.”
It was nice to have someone to talk to, someone that wasn’t Raji, someone that understood what it was like to have to work hard for what you obtained. Aside from the pride of working in the royal palace, Chelle was just a normal person like her.
“Fine, Lady peasant,” The corners of Chelles lips curved up to reveal a pretty smile as she tossed a peeler to Shirayuki. “Kindly peel me about a dozen more potatoes.”
Only after the task was completed, did the atmosphere in the kitchen change. It looked as if the majority of the prep was done and the cooking proper was to begin. Shirayuki washed her hands thoroughly and approached the guard waiting outside of the kitchen for her.
“I’m ready to go back to my room for the night, if you’re ready to get going?” The look in his eyes spoke volumes of being unimpressed with her kitchen meddling antics, but he kept his mouth shut as he pushed himself off the wall and led the way back to her room.
This path was the most familiar to her, and in just a few turns of the hallways and up the stairs she was back into her room.
“Thank you for today,” If the guards ever wanted to refuse her choice of activities, she would be stuck in this room. She really was grateful for them.
“Hn.”
The door closed.
Locked.
The sound of heavy footsteps walking away.
Shirayuki was alone again.
Shirayuki walked to and opened a window. Leaning out all she could see was the courtyards stained a deep blue in the evening dusk, with the forest even darker beyond that. She rested her chin on her hands, looking at the familiar sight below her window. It was only three stories to the ground, statistically speaking she would be able to survive the fall… but it was after the fall that would be the issue. What would end up broken or fractured, and would the injury make her incapable of running?
Her gaze drifted off into the distance as her thoughts took her away from the palace. Initially she had wished for her view to be from the other side of the palace, of gardens and the edges of the capital city. Recently however, she realized the flaw in that concept. Seeing the city as a motivation to escape was one thing, but the calm of the forest was good to calm her- something she was starting to desire more often as she was incorporated more into day-to-day palace life.
A knock at the door interrupted her thoughts, before Selene unlocked and opened the door. A smile appeared on her face as she poked her head in.
“Evening, Prince Raji was hoping you would join him for dinner.”
Shirayuki hadn’t been expecting any evening calls from Raji anytime soon, or perhaps that was simply her desire masquerading as an expectation. Hands smoothed out the creases in her dress from leaning against the windowsill. No matter…. An indulging smile graced her lips to match the maid.
“Well, we mustn’t keep him waiting then!" She lifted the front of her dress slightly, as to not step on it, and headed out the door following Selene down the hall. He may be trying to get under her clothes, but she refused to let the First Prince of Tanbarun get under her skin.

It's time for this month's first Friday fic night!
For a refresher you can find out what this is here.
Last month we looked at Attack on Titan.
According to the poll we are going back to Teen Wolf. Poll for next month's fandom at the bottom.
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Ship: Sterek
Last time we looked at Teen Wolf we were at 40k words or less with a focus on healing and recovering from Trauma.
This month: BAMF Stiles
with bloody feet across hallowed ground, by owlpostagain
"There were no last words. No more pleas, no more screaming. Just the sound of Stiles squeezing the trigger, the explosion of a second shot rocketing out of the revolver, and the hunters bursting through the open doorway just in time to see the bullet slam squarely into the center of Derek’s chest."
In The Afterimage, by clotpolesonly
"Jackson sat heavily on the riser beside Scott, knocking their shoulders together. “This is weird and I hate it.”
"What's weird and why?"
“This whole situation,” Jackson said. “With the Ghostriders and the missing dude you’re so obsessed with.”
“And why do you hate that?”
“Because now I can’t stop thinking about it!” Jackson bit out, and he really did sound supremely irritated by that. “I keep thinking that if even Danny’s forgetting shit because of this guy, then I must be forgetting shit too, and that is so not cool. So now I’m running over everything that’s ever happened in my entire freaking life looking for moments when the Ghostriders could’ve fucked with my head.”
Scott had to admit that Jackson had a point. He’d been doing the same thing ever since that first memory with obvious pieces missing. Honestly, it was hard for him to find a memory that did feel whole. Even sitting on the bench alone didn’t feel right."
I'm the ghost of my mistakes, by GreyHaven
"Stiles hasn't been known as Stiles for the past six years. He's Mitch Rapp, a CIA assassin with 117 kills under his belt. When he gets a late night call from Scott, saying Derek has been taken, he's on the road back to Beacon Hills in less than ten minutes. He's going to get Derek back, even if that means adding a few more kills to his ledger.
An American Assassin/Teen Wolf fusion. Rated E for violence which is canon typical for AA but might be considered extreme for TW. If you're familiar with the plot of AA, please be assured that no female or beloved TW characters have been fridged in the making of this fic and pairing."
i'm here in search of your glory, by EvanesDust and spaceprincessem
"And standing there, in the dim light of the office was the all powerful emissary whose name had been whispered across the country. The one who could move mountains and part oceans. The one they all called Void.
Standing there was Stiles fucking Stilinski.
There were so many things Derek wanted to say - needed to say - and Stiles arched an eyebrow, like he was waiting, like he fucking knew. Derek opened his mouth, but the only thing that came out was, “Are you fucking kidding me.”"
As a reminder, always check the tags!
I hope you enjoy. Let me know how much you love them on a scale of surprise badass to faulty memory.
I'm leaving off both Attack on Titan and Teen Wolf for next month, they'll be added back into the poll after that.

A Chance At Heartbreak
@batgirlsay Here’s a oneshot or maybe even the first chapter of a multichapter fic inspired off of your ObiYuki Week 2022 Day Two Selkie AU fanmix! It was my first time finally listening to one of your AU fanmixes, and I had so much fun! I wrote this and two fanpoems. (One of the fanpoems is for a different pairing, which is getting surprisingly common from me. Whoops. And the other much to my surprise is a Selkie AU! I didn’t know I could do that in a fanpoem, and I managed to!) I hope you enjoy what I wrote for you! <3 <3 <3  https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14254306/1/A-Chance-At-Heartbreak

Fanfic Origin Story
Tagged by the most incredible: @shortsighted-owl, @thosetwofirefighters and @monsterrae1
i'll be honest, my early fandom years are pretty blurry and I was kinda late to the game (perks of living in a sheltered home with limited internet) but I will try to answer as best I can.
What was your first fandom (reading and/or writing)?
my first "fandom" was probably teen wolf (tv) or at least that's where I first remember learning words like 'OTP' but the first fandom I wrote for was Fairy Tail (anime)
What was the first story you ever wrote (even if it was never posted) and what made you decide to write it?
technically the first story i ever wrote was for my little brother about a magical tractor. i was about 9 and I typed it, printed it and found clipart tractor pictures to glue into the 'book' but I've been creative writing for my whole life pretty much and used to publish original stories on wattpad (I have not been back to that dark scary place in literal years)
What’s a piece of advice you would give to your younger fic-writing self?
there are so many different kinds of fic and you don't have to write the next best 20 chapter long fic with the most profound and original story for it to be loved by readers/the fandom. Write the 2k fluff fic or the 500 word angst drabble!
What’s an early fandom interaction that stuck with you (be it a nice comment, a friend you made, a fic that got a lot of feedback etc.)?
i haven't had many fandom interactions pre-911, I was very much a lurker in fandom. I joined a discord channel for an anime ship (Obiyuki from Akagami no Shirayukihime) and I made one really really good friend when I was writing kpop fic. But 9-1-1 is the first time I've had fandom mutuals and friends who seem to know and recognize my writing and I have @loveyourownsmiilee to thank for that. From the first time Juju reblogged and commented on one of my early buddie fics it was like being excepted into the 911 fam 💜
Post a sentence or two from one of your older fics, and a sentence or two from a newer one (if you want).
a snippet from an older fic:
Then quick as a flash and before she can react his long, slim hands, the same ones she watched, so carefully sharpening the knife just hours earlier, are around her throat. He has flipped her over, her back now against the mattress, pushing her down into the springs. He is leaning right over her, his eyes wide and wild. But glazed as if he still believes he is dreaming.
Slipping Through The Cracks (obiyuki)
a snippet from a newer fic:
Shit. He's beautiful. Buck's cheeks are flushed pink and his lips are parted as he breathes heavily. His chest is heaving and it brushes against Eddie's with every odd breath. His curls spill off his forehead, damp with sweat and curling around his ears and Eddie feels pulled apart.
"Eds," Buck whispers.
"Buck." He replies.
"You're sitting on me." Buck snickers and suddenly Eddie is all too aware of where his knees rest on either side of Buck's hips, of their thighs pressed against each other, of Buck's eyelashes as they brush against the delicate skin beneath his eyes, fanning out dark and gentle.
Crushes, Shivers and Bruised Knuckles (buddie)
I'm not sure who has and hasn't done this yet but I'll tag @loveyourownsmiilee @wheelsupin-five @bekkachaos @lilbuddie @spotsandsocks and @elvensorceress. And anyone else who would like to do it feel free it tag me xx

The Last Yura Shigure, Chapter 2
Obi can discern that Shirayuki’s panicking. Her bright green eyes are pulled taut and her breaths are quick and shallow, filling the space around them with tension. He watches her rub small circles into her temples with a pressure that must be painful. Has he done something to upset her?

Clinically Distracted
A Playlist for Obiyuki Do-Si-Do 2023 by @snowwhite-andtheknight
Tumblr media
This is my first playlist directly based on a fanfic (by my partner @claudeng80) so I decided to focus on songs from my favorite Obiyuki feels band! The playlist title from “Counting Song” fits perfectly for apothecary assistant Obi’s daily thoughts and I also reused some songs from my original Obiyuki playlist that represent all those hours sitting on the roof watching her.
Clinically Distracted
All songs below by Matt Pond PA:
Several Arrows Later The Hollows The Trees And The Wild A Part of the Woods Scars and Stars Closer Counting Song Flying Through The Scenery Hunter
Summary lyrics are cited after the cut:
Several Arrows Later
Orange streetlight picks up when the summer sun goes On tops of buildings red remains It's the differences in light that gets our minds, that gets our minds Give waking up for never fading My intentions proved I thought I would go further Several arrows later will be fine I am listening I'm hearing every single word I see breath and sighs and changing minds I told myself not to remind me of the things I could've been
The Hollows
Erasers impress me everyday They have a way of forgetting easily Hide the hollows from me I'm there, I am all around I am spread out, the wide transparency
The Trees And The Wild
Even without sense You stick to plans I look back to the trees and the wild I look back to see you smile My street is ambivalent It makes sure to tell me Doesn't have to know If I come or go
A Part of the Woods
I got lost in a part of the woods Far from another Cut the line between light and the good Out of color Understand though I can't see what's sound Got branches waving Deep in the dark woods To stand where no one's stood That was you in a part of the woods Now we act like strangers
Scars and Stars
Stars and scars are shining upon the snow that's hiding What's underneath and rotten should be forgotten Though inside it's warmer the cold is good for keeping All the secrets that slept are better off left sleeping Stars and scars are shining they're not about revealing They've covered up what's better, what's better off left keeping Though your breath is speaking through the clouds are breathing It's like they're trying to tell me that everything is seeing Didn't want to go Stayed out in the cold I'm always at a loss Ten times out of ten I don't know where to start
Closer
It was the rocks you liked So much you'd throw them Down into the river's darkness Closer and closer The beam's width that's between us Gets just a little leaner We ought to fail to see it Between the banks that roll The glass hidden motion Above we go on without knowing The pines control the wild sarcasm To hold us up And time was held Well worth the holding Waste it when you try to save Save it and it ends up wasted You know these words
Counting Song
Counting lines in the poplar I got lost about the thousandth time Begin again - don't let anything get your mind Clinically distracted Wondered how the light broke through If it's more than numbers Then on comes the thoughts of truth I was lying on my back outside Below the shade of poplar leaves The moss, grass and brown needles of the evergreen Let's put it aside one last time for desire After enough nights every thought will disappear
Flying Through The Scenery
The orange of the fire – the catch of the barbed wire Running through the woods can cost – across your chest your breath you've lost We got here by back roads – the turns the breaks the hills that roll Seconds I would realize I never want to close my eyes And here we are – we're flying through the scenery I hope you turn your head – to see the moon has set Miss it every time it goes – the further on the less I know
Hunter
Of all the breath laid on me Yours seems sincere Of all the thoughts incomplete Yours seems so clear Hunter do what you want to Hunter do what you please Though you had a big idea Of what it was it isn't clear

This is absolutely perfect! I am in awe.
The accompanying fic is linked below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Second part of the Do-Si-Do event, my contribution to @kpslp’s pitch “Obiyuki but make it Fern Gully”
Includes a fic cover, and some character wardrobe design of the main four, Obi, Shirayuki, Kihal and Ryuu~ I had loads of fun, and challenges, to make these. Really got to lean on some of the processes I learned in art school for once xD

This week's first Friday fic night is here!
Fandom: teen wolf
Ship: Sterek
Themes: recovering from trauma, finding one’s self, pulling each other out of the darkness
Word count range: 15-40k words
Still, by coppersin
“He thinks about it sometimes, telling Stiles to go into the waiting dark, and feels guilty when he says nothing. Thinks of Stiles finally at peace, but ‘at peace’ means ‘gone’ and suddenly guilt is turning to desperation. Derek grabs Stiles instead and pushes him onto the bed with rough kisses and needy hands.”
Not quite lost (not quite found), by alocalband
“A year after the nogitsune is defeated, Derek is living a quiet life in the mountains above a small town in Colorado.
Then Stiles shows up.”
It took New York to make me a cowboy, by piratetattoos
“After Beacon Hills, Derek heads back to New York. He doesn’t look back, lest he be turned into a pillar of salt. He leaves it all behind, a monument, a tomb, a thousand fuck ups and betrayals left to gather dust and slowly rot away to nothing.
He read somewhere once, that time is cyclical, that the universe repeats over and over, and that he will be reborn and make the exact same mistakes over and over again, helpless to change anything. He thinks Stiles told him about a Vonnegut novel like that once.
He doesn’t think about Stiles.
*
(or: Derek leaves Beacon Hills, finds himself, and waits for Stiles to find him.)”
Here is the deepest secret nobody knows, by owlpostagain
““Derek,” Stiles groans. “You have me. You’ve always had me, you absolute moron, how many physically impossible feats of life-saving heroics do I have to perform before you get it?””
All is lost (but I’m not giving in), by coppersin
“The nightmares aren't real. They can't possibly be real. But people keep dying and Stiles is genuinely losing his mind. And he can't seem to open his mouth and just tell someone.”
Please always mind the tags.
I hope you enjoy. Let me know how much you love them on a scale of cabin core to New York photographer.
Next month, what are we all thinking?

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love ❤️
This is always the toughest because I have written over 100 fics (much more, if you count the ones in collections) and I truly do love pretty much all of them. I think I will keep this to Obiyuki fics I really found technically difficult, and creatively satisfying!
All Pain Will Turn To Medicine Joanna likes to refer to this as "as close a crossover between Jen's obiyuki fic and original writing as she can come and still call it fanfic" which is absolutely correct, since this fic require making an ENTIRE CAST of OCs to support the premise of "Obi and Shirayuki grow up as childhood friends in the canon universe." I worked on mainly original writing before I started posting fic, so I delight in making characters and then convincing people to care about them, sometimes even against their will.
And That's the Reason We Need Lips So Much Written for the VERY FIRST Obiyukiweek back in 2016, I had been talking about doing something just like this since I pretty much started posting Seven Suitors. Sorata has a love of taking tropes an twisting them, and I thought the "true love's kiss/kiss of life" would be a hilarious one to tackle because...CPR usually ends with vomiting and cracked ribs. I had to do some really in-depth research into the mechanism of hemlock poisoning, since there is no actual known cure, and make up a very convincing one for Shirayuki to discover-- half the reason U started writing fic for this fandom was because I had professional biology knowledge, I wasn't gonna handwave it!
Creatures of a Brief Season Like All Pain, this was for the first AU bingo we ever ran, and I was using a bunch of ideas we had all come up with almost six months earlier on the obiyuki server we had at the time. I'd been so taken with the idea of doing a retelling with daemons, especially with Shirayuki having a daemon that settled late, and Obi having a the witch's tether for his daemon...the biggest hurdle was hoping that I'd done the whole concept justice. It was a LOT of pressure, but it remains one of my favorite fics.
Family, Duty, Honor A Song of Ice and Fire is possibly one of my favorite fantasy series of all time (the show....exists), so when this showed up on my bingo board a few years ago I was ECSTATIC. I had many, MANY ideas for a long-form series that would involve SECRET PARENTAGE and POLITICAL INTRIGUE, and probably DRAGONS, but since it was just for bingo, I wanted it to focus on Obi & Shirayuki...and thus we started at the Fake Marriage, Real Baby plot 🤣 ASoIaF is very densely packed with lore and I wanted to keep this fic the same way...but also make it readable to those who do not shove themselves face first into 800 page fantasy novels. It was a balancing act that I feel like I ultimately got; there's lots of little hints left for fans of the series, but it's enjoyable to people who aren't!
A Color By Any Other Name I had been talking about writing a fic like this for YEARS before I got to sit down and write it; I was initially hesitant because sometimes relatively benign disabilities like colorblindness are used more as like...entertainment in fic, either just as jokes or something to be fixed by the end of the narrative. And my philosophy is always that if I am going to include and experience in a fic-- whether it be something playing a tabletop game, or experiencing grief-- it should feel relatable to a person who has experienced it. So if I wanted to write someone discovering their colorblindness (based more than a little off a close friend's experience in college), I didn't want the colorblindness to be the punchline. In the end I had more than a couple people mention they had read it out to colorblind boyfriends/husbands who had also thought it was funny, so I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

I am enjoying this so very much. The possibilities.
Sands Through the Hourglass, ch. 2
“You have a lot of medical books, for a historian.” Obi can tell the difference between this and a modern medical book. He had basic first aid last year, the only part of P.E. that wasn’t totally brainless. But the more wide-open he makes the question, the longer it takes Shirayuki to get through the answer.
“That’s my research!” She sets down her book, and he knows he’s hit the jackpot. “I’m studying the proliferation of medical plant specimens in the Roman Empire, how knowledge of new plants and particularly living samples of those plants moved around the Roman world. It tells us a lot about networks of communication and patterns of trade, and informs the medical knowledge that the European world took forward with them for hundreds of years.”
He has to think that one through for a minute- she’s practiced this speech a few times. “You mean like these ancient doctors would send each other potted plants?”
