Drawing my ace ocs for ace week!

Sketches of my original characters, Oak (bottom half) and Octavious (top half).

This is a page where I was trying to nail down their final designs (for the hundredth time) so that I could finish a bigger drawing including them (also for the hundredth time)

You can zoom in and read what I’ve written if you want, but it’s mostly design notes, trying to figure out their personalities a bit more, and a bit of word association. (also I don’t know if my hand writing is legible.)

Random trivia about them under the cut.

- Oak and Octavious are the same height, and are both really really short. Despite this, everyone assumes that Octavious is taller because he wears heels. (Oak hates them for it)

- Oak is nonbianary (she/them) and Octavious is genderqueer (I use he for them most of the time, but she likes all the pronouns, so I mix it up when it’s obvious who I’m talking about)

- Oak’s full name is Oakley

- Octavious is very social and very very good with people

- Octavious is also terrible with people, specifically he doesn’t know how to navigate relationships once they’ve gotten past being superficial

- When I was drawing Octavious, I didn’t realize that I gave him a mullet but once I did, I found it so funny that I’m keeping it from now on

- Oak dyes their hair, and Octavious’ white streaks that you can’t really see are natural.

- Both Oak and Octavious come from elven families, but in this universe ears look different depending on where your family is from, which is why Oak doesn’t have Octavious’ long ears

- Oak is very punch first, ask questions if they’re still alive later

- Octavious is more keen on finding information

- Oak and Octavious’ names both start with O because their original designs were very similar, and I thought it would be funny if they were mistaken for twins, and I thought it would be cool if they matched. (this has since changed, but I kept the names, and the two of them the same heights)

- Oak punched Octavious the first time they met.

- I wrote “absolute bastard” next to Octavious and “public menace” to Oak, but both of those are applicable to both of them.
