Ok ok enough of humans being scared
I want a monster that's scared, that's the prey in the relationship, that's instincts are so different it makes you realize just how scary you can accidentally be
Reader is described as strong/heavier/ carnivorous/a predator (keep in mind though, this is a human being compared to small rabbit-like creatures so regardless of your stature it applies)
Reader is referred to as 'he' once in passing, beyond that everything is up to interpretation
I want a monster that's intimidated and horrified by humans because humans are a predatorial species, specifically pursuit predators. We just keep going- humans do insane shit for fun or adrenaline, or because it's a dire situation and their brains have hit fight/flight and at that point has dropped any barrier of "can't do that, too much effort would hurt the body" and will lead to humans doing insane feats in crisis mode, even if it damages their body. Once the adrenaline wears off they're gonna feel it but essentially at least for a short time a human is capable of hulking out.
And I want you to imagine with me, say a rabbit monster, small, quick, agile. No excessive strength because they're made to evade which means being light and being fast.
A bunny-boy if you will. Triangled nose that twitches when he smells things, upright ears that when relaxed lean back against his head. Fur patches on random body parts like arms or legs or along the spine from his hair to his hips where the humanoid body morphs into a pair of anthropomorphic rabbit legs. Springy lad.
I'm calling him Nyx
And Nyx adores his human partner so much. You.
He just adores you, you know that post about the rabbit with his gf that's 3x his size? Similar case but this rabbits got a human for a partner.
And whenever he brings you home to his families burrow, you note there are many burrows of different families around here. Almost only burrows. As if it's intentional.
Now, in your eyes you're an average human. Maybe a bit strong when you need to be, but your not the strongest or fastest or smartest. Even if you're very capable you're not the best of the best, and You've told Nyx this whenever he goes on his tangents about being the lucky guy to score such a capable partner.
But you realize just how different you are once he brings you inside and you have to duck down to get into the burrow. When you see the children and the adults alike freeze as if something truly terrifying has entered their home.
You have to soften yourself right now, overly deferring to Nyx in a way you never thought you'd need to just so this family of prey monsters will feel safer. Strange isn't it?
And Nyx -happy as can be- drags you along, not ducking, not concerned, not out of place, brings you to the kitchen to meet his Da and his Ma. His Da is at the stove cooking something a bit clumsily as if there's something he's unfamiliar with as his Ma is setting the table with one spot given the most room. And they both freeze for a moment, noses twitching, taking you in before it's Nyx's Ma that finally takes the plunge and greets you with what you can clearly define as nerves.
No one else seems to notice though, or remark on it.
You'd followed your little Nyx here wondering how his family would threaten you about 'if you ever hurt him' the way human families would, but these creatures seem overly appeasing. Nonconfrontational.
Eventually you ask Nyx's Ma -as she seems to be the one in charge- if she has any questions for you. She takes a breath, looking back to her own partner and mentally decides to ask something. "What sort of human are you?"
It takes you some time to understand her words, but Nyx chimes in before you can. "A loyal one." And the way his gaze flutters up to you, so enamored and adoring, his form leaning into your side where your arm automatically wraps around him. It must be comforting with how he sinks into your hold with a content little sigh. You never did notice how fragile he is until right now when it's so obvious around his families home how out of place you are.
With a tilt of your head, you feel the need to experiment a little. With one hand you grip onto his shoulder, supporting the weight easily and with the other hand you grab onto his hip. And lift up.
He's light- so, so light. Weighing nothing to your heavier body that's built for heavier task than the rabbits swiftness and agility.
Nyx is having the time of his life, delighted at the curious display you've demonstrated, his family has their own shock to get over- as do you. With such care, you set him back down again with the absent minded remark of- "You weigh nothing, hun... I gotta feed you more." Because to you that's what it means, he's not eating enough.
To the families confusion, Nyx clarifies for you. "It's a human thing. They feed others they care about, really big ordeal food is. Share it with loved ones, make it to express care or appreciation, even old phrases like "the way to a humans heart is through their stomach", it's a big deal!" And he's so delighted to explain something you never really thought about too much yourself because it's instinct. Natural. But there's something so sweet about how he describes it and he is right, so you nod your head, holding him close once more as he turns to you. "And I promise I'm eating enough, I'm just made to be a lot lighter than predators like you." His tone is soft and comforting as if intentionally trying to appease your own instincts you've never given much thought of.
With a tilt of your head, you shrug and agree but mentally swear to give him bigger portions in the future regardless.
He leaves to help his Pa in the kitchen, and you're left to entertain a family of rabbit-like monsters. It's surprisingly easy when the youngest are released and immediately ask you to lift them up like how you did Nyx. So you do, one after the other, occasionally giving a little toss where they're caught immediately once more.
They're so weightless and tiny, almost like your stuffed animals when you were little. But they squeal and giggle like they've never been lifted so easily before. As if it's impressive.
You chatter aimlessly with the older rabbitesk creatures, speaking of how you and Nyx met, what sort of accommodations you've worked out to live in a place suited to both you and your much smaller companion, whatever topics come to mind. Though you seem to be the one unintentionally driving the conversations, no matter how socially adverse you feel, or how confident. The floor is yours, practically given to you without any trying to speak over you a single time.
When you sit for supper you note that you'd been given a different plate, the plate that Nyx and his Da had been working on. A clumsily cut, undercooked steak. Not wanting to be rude, and knowing red meat won't hurt if it's not entirely cooked through, you tear into it.
You don't quite notice any of the stares until you hear your little Nyx voice his thoughts.
"See? I told you, eats like a carnivore he does!" His voice beaming with pride. You glance over with a confused expression only to really notice how every other rabbit creature sitting at the table is staring at you with different expressions. That's when it really kicks into your head your plate is the only one with any meat.
You give a sheepish grin and instead eat one of the steamed slices of eggplant that's on your plate.
Strange isn't it? To be human and to be viewed as something dangerous... But I suppose you are, just not in ways you'd notice because it's so normal for you.
Not to them it isn't, not to those monsters that are more prey than predator.
Isn't it just so strange?

Oh Nyx. So small, so cute, so fragile. One flick of the wrist and he just might break.
So precious, so breakable.
And he almost revels in this idea, curled up in your arms, just a wee thing. Brown and white ears and fluffy tail twitching occasionally in his sleep. His back legs more akin to fur covered paws kicking in his slunber just lightly.
His little nose twinges slightly as his movements increase in his sleep, eyes squeezing shut, heart racing
And he's startled awake. Sitting straight up in the dark cold room of his family's burrow. Relaxation comes slowly when he can only see so far in the dark, but his ears are perked up and he hears his family he'd come to visit with his partner... Speaking of partners, why can't he hear his lovely human-
Nyx feels his heart drop as he turns to find you wide awake, watching him with dilated eyes that can see far more in this dark. He can see the light reflecting off of your eyes just enough to know you're there. You can see him entirely. He didn't even hear you and you're almost on top of him. The bunny boy has to steady his breathing and force himself to relax, his sweet human is a predator, but a nice predator... To him at least.
"Are you alright?" Your voice seems to break your silent trance as you lean closer, sitting up and easily dwarfing him in size.
Nyx easily hops onto your lap, ears tucked back against his head as his arms try to wrap around you with... Some success. "Yeah, yes. Dreamt a fox was chasing me." Hardly a predator in comparison to the one he'd fallen into the arms of just now.
You can so easily lift him up, and just hold him in your arms, cradled to your chest with care as you lay back. "A fox, hm?" Your tone seems contemplative to the bunny boy. He can only imagine what you'll say next but certainly isn't expecting- "Pesky vermin. I've chased some of them away from my trash before. They won't get close to you."
Nyx feels a twinge of something creeping up his spine. You so easily mention chasing away the sort of predator that would haunt a creature like him. And you say it as if it's nothing. There's no question of if you'd do so again. Just a silent vow that he'll be safe. And something easy enough for you to swear that you seem so relaxed about it, stroking his back, soothing his nerves how you do best.
By being the scariest predator he's ever met, and loving him.
"You mean it?" His voice is uncharacteristically quiet in the dark, trying not to wake his family, wondering just how he woke you originally, especially without even realizing it.
Nyx can feel your grip tighten just slightly, though he can see your muscles are still relaxed in your arm, he's left amazed by how strong the grasp is. No doubt if you used your full strength he'd be carried away with more than one splintered rib. But you're careful, you're gentle. Not by nature, but by choice. And somehow that's far more chilling.
Because when you don't want to be gentle, when something has him nervous and seeking your comfort? You're gentle demeanor fades just enough to remind him that he's so very lucky his human loves him, and he is very lucky to have such a predators affections.
Your voice is a low grumble as you respond to his question, a sound that sets the alarms in his head on high alert. "Killing any animal is easy, especially if it gets close enough on its own. I just need one good shot at it, and I'll have free meat to store in the freezer, maybe a nice fur to craft with as well."
Right. Carnivore. "Why keep the pelt?" Nyx questions softly, trying to find a more soothing conversation to sleep to. The answer is...
"I like fur. Humans don't have any, it's also why I like petting your ears all the time. They're so soft, you're so precious, I could just eat you up. But then you wouldn't be here to be all affectionate and talk with me. So I'll keep eating whatever I hunt or buy, and keep a few pelts to either craft with or sell."
Your answer seems so casual to you. To Nyx he's feeling multiple things, but above it all pride. His partner, his lovely mate is such a capable predator and keeps him so safe.
After a moment he snuggles closer, nuzzling into your warmth with a content sigh, feeling safer already. With his face pressed into your collarbone he can easily press a few small kisses across the exposed skin. His own delight grows once Nyx feels you lean down to press your lips against his forehead so sweetly.
Nyx settles into your bigger form, relaxing against the softness and firmness as you cover yourself and him up with the blanket once more to settle back to sleep. Not releasing him all the while. Good. He prefers it this way.
So in a way, he relishes in how scary his human is. How strong you are, compared to him and his kind. He loves feeling your gentle grasp- knowing you're choosing to be gentle because you love him. And also that if you didn't care his poor little self would be in so much danger.
It really proves that you love him so much, and that he trust you sooo much
So hold him a little closer, maybe even a little tighter? He won't break, he knows you won't break him.
Even if it would be just so easy

Nyx is a fun sized guy :3
How would he feel if another human was trying to court his s/o? Especially if compared to him, they are big, strong and would be ideal for providing?
AND VICE VERSA
What would happen if another rabbit person tried to yet his attention when he has his s/o??
I love this question cause I get to display Nyx like a peacock the way I haven't yet
The thing about Nyx, is that he's anxiety incarnated when it comes to anything NOT including himself.
When on the topic of himself however? He's so overly confident it's almost arrogance but the way he's confident isn't "you're dating the best partner because I'm me" it's more "of course we're together, the best of humans only deserves the best of inhumans." He'll lift you up in confidence while also praising himself. Package deal.
A big human coming to HIS human with intentions of courting or even flirting??? No. Not allowed. Absolutely not. Stop, turn around, do not pass go do not collect 200$.
To the point he almost seems like a different bun, but really he relies on throwing people off, he knows an actual fight gives him low odds against a human, he would fight another bun though. But mostly he aims to confuse and embarrass or make others nervous as opposed to going straight to an actual fight
More specifically
~
"What is this supposed to be?" Your little bunny boy questions in a surprisingly bold tone, stepping to your side with his eyes fixed on the guy that had asked about going out for drinks.
Nyx, even as small as he was, seemed larger somehow... Oh. He's standing as tall as his hind paws allow, ears perked up, head held high, shoulders back, chest out. What a confident little bun he seemed, and it was certainly enough to catch your fellow human off guard.
"Oh, sorry man, didn't see you there. I'm Jax, I'm a co-worker of-"
"-of my human. Yes I'm aware, we've talked about you over lunch before." Nyx waved Jax off with his hand, turning to look up at you instead. His tone shifting from hinted malice and morphing into the usual softer lovestruck tone. "Speaking of lunch, Honey- you said you wanted to try out that new Yakitori place, right? They have all sorts of cuts of meat and veggies for me too."
There's something about how Nyx is acting, as if Jax isn't even worth the effort of being polite with while simultaneously encouraging you to leave. You'll have to discuss exactly what's up later but don't want to purposely upset anyone, so you turn to Jax to at least say goodbye-
Until Jax steps forward with some gathered nerve that's far too easy for a big guy to have. "Actually, rabbit- I'm going to be taking my coworker here out for a drink."
Nyx doesn't hesitate and doesn't second guess his actions because he springs forward, landing with a quiet thud on the concrete directly in front of Jax, making the grown man stumble back slightly. "Excuse you? I think you actually tried telling this incredible person what to do. No, that's not how you should be speaking to the greatest human you'll ever meet."
To both your confusion and amusement, Jax is stumbling backwards from a bunny half his size just from Nyx's bolstering display, continuing his steps forward, forcing Jax backwards even further. "No, because they're my wonderful partner and I'm theirs. And we are going to have a lovely lunch at the new spot they've been talking about, and we'll maybe go shopping after, and then go home. Alone. Without your nonsensical attitude and demands that honestly don't hold any water."
Jax stumbles back further. Gripping over the curb behind him and landing on his ass with Nyx standing far too close to be a respectful distance, the white and brown fur hybrid glared down, leaning over slightly to make eye contact directly. His eyes hold a challenge to them. "Now where in those plans do you see yourself included? I certainly don't see such a ridiculous notion anywhere." His perked ears twitch back to you, remembering you're there as well, and his tone and demeanor draws back slightly.
When Jax is silent -most likely confused and embarrassed- Nyx turns to walk back to you. He turns with the familiar bright smile and spring in his step as he wanders towards you, raising his hands to take your arm and guide you away, a slight spring in his step. "Come on, honey! I think that's the best pre-meal entertainment we could possibly get."
What a bun, that Nyx.
~
Now, if another bun ever tried, he'd go all out- nvm on explaining you get a two for one scenario here we go!
~
It was certainly a strange situation.
You'd grown accustomed to the burrows being a place where you have to be overly cautious and watch your actions closely as most bunny Hybrid around here were so easily frightened.
But this one seemed... Not.
The dark brown fur ears and tail were fluffier than Nyx's, and she was a larger type of bunny... Were there different species of rabbit-hybrids? There were characteristics in Nyx's family that you didn't see for each bunny out and about... Regardless, the one in front of you had hopped over to the bench Nyx left you on while he darted off to find something he left in his families burrow. So you were alone... Trying not to be too loud or too quick in movements but also trying to get this bunny -Alira- to stop flirting so much.
She had hopped up onto the bench with you at this point, leaning over herself and placing her hands on the bench to prop herself up all while speaking. "Come on, a strong predator like yourself all alone out here? You can't convince me that you're here with some silly bun... I think you're here looking for somebunny to devour" her grin didn't diminish though, apparently she was writing her own narrative in her head despite your many denials.
"I don't know what to tell you, you don't have to believe me but I really just wanna be left alone until my partner comes back."
"Partner?" Her ears perk up as much as they can despite the natural droop to them. "Oh dear, what a flimsy relationship... Not even a mate yet?"
At that you're caught off guard, "A what?" At the feeling of her hand on your arm, you jolt back, almost ironically given your dispositions.
What you're not prepared for, is to have a very familiar white and brown fur bunny boy springing on you out of nowhere and depositing himself onto your lap. Nyx fills your vision, his eyes alert, his smile bright and his ears up. He looks like the epitomy of a parading peacock. "Honey!" His greeting seems overly sugary in tone, his hands pressing into your cheeks and pulling your face down to his for a kiss. One and another and another spanning from your lips to your nose, your cheeks, your forehead, your jaw- "I'm so sorry it took me so long, Grandma bun was just telling me how they wanted me to invite you to celebrate the harvest holidays with us, isn't that sweet?"
After a moment, it's clear he's intentionally ignoring your company but once he sees Alira's hand still on your arm he swats it away, raising your forearm and pressing a kiss where her hand was. "Oh, my poor honey. All of this unwanted attention from strangers that don't know their place must feel so uncomfortable. Why don't we go back to the burrow, hm? I can make us some sweet bread and spiced tea to relax with? And we can talk holiday plans whenever you'd like."
There's something familiar in how he's acting. How any time someone tries to take your attention he purposely acts as if they're not around, as if so unimportant they're not worth noticing...
With that, Nyx hops off the bench, guiding you along with a delighted expression and promises of sweets and soft blankets to cuddle under, promises he would absolutely deliver at that.

Have there been any situations where a prey hybrid thought that reader was safe and docile to be around because reader is gentle with Nyx only to be reminded that reader is a predator?
HA!
100%
Cause Nyx's sweet human, you try to be gentle around him. Around his family and his families customers at the markets where they sell their crops.
However, gentleness must never be mistaken for weakness.
Nyx knows your strength, he relishes in it, and the fact that knowing your strength means knowing how gentle you choose to be with him.
Others don't.
So when a mouse hybrid struts over without a care in the world, at first you're caught off guard but somewhat pleased that you're not scaring folks from Nyx's families market stall.
And all is going great, until they stride over to you, far too casual, a hand on your shoulder as they speak with a proud smile.
You keep glancing to Nyx, gauging your reaction on his own because this is his territory to make decisions not yours. And he knows that.
Nyx sees how tense you're getting. Like a dog ready to bite only if given permission, and he sees you look to him for permission. Eventually when the mouse hybrid gets just close enough he can see the makings of a snarl twitch on your face, does he finally give his unspoken acceptance, "-They're not public property, get off before they bite." Nyx's warning is both his usual gentle tone, but laden with genuine concern. You're a good predator to him, to his own, and largely for his benefit. Others aren't always an exception.
So when the mouse hybrid heats this, his ear twitches, tail flicking as he hesitates but then he turns to you with a wide patronizing grin. "Not this one, this big bad predator is just as soft as you bunny folk, see?" The hybrids hand reaches out as if attempting to pat your head and then-
He's on the ground. Pinned down on his stomach with your hand keeping his head down. There's a malice in your words, a glimpse of the canines in your mouth as you snarl, almost growling. "I'm only as docile as I choose to be." The cold hiss of your words is heard by every creature close enough. And for the mostly prey market, the far to easily applied show of dominance was more than enough to remind everyone.
You're kind, you're good, you're even sweet.
But you're still a predator... One to be feared as much as respected.
Nyx can only let out a breath of relief as the mouse hybrid is let go and takes off. At least the others understand now, instead of growing too accustomed to seeing you as sweet as you are with him.
Regardless, he guides you back to your chair, stroking your cheek, fixing your slightly ruffled clothes as he cooes over you, letting you huff and growl but ultimately settle. He feels the greatest pride when your face rest against his throat. Your larger hand stroking the fur along the back of his neck. His predator. So ferocious yet so willingly sweet.

I can't
if i had such an adorable partner like Nyx i swear i wouldn't go 1 second before agressive cuteness strikes me to squish him and may or may not playfully bite the bunny ( with his consent of course, dont wanna give him a scare)
omg this blog is one the best things that could happen to me, thanks 4 existing
(Scare him. Do it. With the pre-designed agreement of you'll never hurt him cause you love him, he wants to be scared. Like how some people enjoy watching horror movies yk?)
I am always a proponent of encouraging cute aggression
~
The movie couldn't have been as tense as the bunny boy seated in your lap was, truthfully.
A quiet night in, drinks, snacks, and some horror movies were a wonderful arrangement. The shivering of your bunny was a bit of a concern though, your arms wrapped tighter around Nyx, stroking his sides affectionately as he was seated with his back to your chest, clinging to the arms wrapped around him. His hind paws thumping against the couch cushions and his ears pinned down.
"Nyx?" Your voice called out quietly, "do you want me to change the movie?"
The white and brown furred rabbit-hybrid shook his head with a slight tremble, leaning back into you for comfort from the movie in front of him. "No. I like scary things, it's fine."
"You like feeling terrified?" You question softly, resting your chin on his shoulder and eying his twitching nose.
Nyx thumps his back paw against the couch again, more firm as he turned his head slightly to look up at you. "I'm dating you aren't I?"
"Am I scary?"
He paused, trembling ceased momentarily before answering with a soft, lovestruck tone. "You're the most wonderfully fearsome creature I've ever met." His ears droop, laxed and perfectly content to do anything but just look at you, his incredible human.
There's a warmth in your chest, this little bunny boy really is the sweetest partner you could ever hope for. With a rush of affection you fling yourself back onto the couch, dragging him down with you and squeeze him close, lowering your head to nuzzle aggressively against Nyx. "Bunny, You're so adorable! I could just eat you up!"
Nyx can only let out a squeak of surprise and delight as he's manhandled into whatever grip you want in the moment, and currently he's crushed into you, head slightly shoved to the side due to your affectionate nuzzling, doing his best to ignore the chill up his spine from your words. "Honey! You can't eat me, who'd be around to be your favorite bun then??" Nyx laughter bubbled up from his throat at the affection. Pitifully and uselessly tugging against your arms, all in play, even though he's very aware even if his attempts were real, it would hold the same result. Nothing.
Playfulness and laughter turns to a sharp gasp from Nyx as he feels your teeth biting into the meat of his soft cheek.
You bite down gently. Not enough to even bruise. Your mind is shouting that he's so previously adorable you should squeeze him tight and bite down, but you know we'll enough to keep your bites gentle. Pulling the skin of his cheek taunt just slightly in a playful way before letting go and covering his cheek with kisses instead. "You're-" kiss "so" kiss "cute!"
Nyx, meanwhile, feels both a warmth across his face, his heart almost bursting out of his chest, and ends up limp in your grasp, letting out the occasional meek noises.
And he knows you never mean to scare- but he could feel your teeth sinking into his skin. And what's most nerve wracking is how he could just tell you were holding back, possibly by a vast margin. It's both horrifying and the most loving thing he could think of. An unintentional reminder of just how lucky Nyx is. How lucky that such a predatorial creature like you chooses to love and hold him, to be gentle.
Because you truly don't have to be. But he's important enough to you that you make a point to be so. How romantic, how terrifyingly romantic~

(Too shy to say off nonny, sorry.) But I love your writing. Especially that it explores more than the sexual side of romances. I love to interact with the world in a way less driven in such a manner. It's a lovely change to see your writing in my sphere.
But also:
We have you meeting Nyx's family and fitting into his world, but what about trying to fit him into yours?
(never apologize, anon is on for a reason 👍)
I'm so so happy my blog can offer that for you! It's such a bummer each time I find some romantic buildup "plot sweet fluff they fuck." "Plot wholesome- they did this all just to fuck." "Romanc- they did it for sex."
And that's no problem! If people enjoy that then they can there's nothing wrong with enjoying sexual things, but as an asexual who is romantically attracted to folks(monsters mostly) it's disheartening to have almost every story end the same way so I have to skip huge chunks or just not read.which really minimizes how many stories I really have available
As for the idea you have!
Writing about families is far less reader inclusive so what I'm going to do is a brief overview that mostly is gonna focus on Nyx just being brought into the more human side of the world.
And with that in mind!
It takes time. And patience. Nyx is a bundle of nerves, and he loves you his wonderful human so much! But he's still terrified. Because you're sweet and good and know how to be gentle. Not every human does, and telling them apart is difficult at first.
Having to watch you and every other human tear through meat down to the bone at some restaurants (I'm craving ribs) takes him some time to not feel like he's about to fly out of his seat. So you compromised, he would never ask you not to eat something, but you do offer to cut whatever meat you're eating off the bone cause it seems to help his nerves.
The swarm and crowds of humans are so much larger than him, and so very loud for his delicate rabbit ears. Headphones and earbuds don't exactly work given his... Ear shapes.
What does work is a beanie he can tuck his ears into, or a crochet scarf(grandpa bun at it again) wrapped around his ears and head enough to cover them. It muffles the sounds.
Carry him. Please carry him, his legs are rabbit legs, his hind paws are rabbit paws no shoe can fit that and he refuses to wear dog shoes. Pavement is hot. Piggy back ride or sling him over your shoulder, if he's off the ground he's happy. (moreso if you show off that human strength)
Hates transportation at first. It's different, he walks or hops everywhere and now he just has to sit still and wait to get there? No. Give him the backseat to move around or find a bus that's not crowded so he can stretch his legs, y'all will not survive otherwise I'm sorry but ultimate "gotta move" attitude.
Other humans will scare him. You do, but in the attractive "this is my partner and they're so capable I love them so much" kinda way. Other humans set off danger alarms 24/7 that you only set off 11/7. It takes a good amount of time and slow buildup in exposure to combat this. If any human gets too close and doesn't hear him when he says to leave him alone(something you and him did practice) then he will fall on instincts and just bolt. So once you lay someone out in the asphalt, you gotta find the bun.
General aside, into family's. This is based around a loose idea of mother father siblings just because that's what I'm most familiar with
Absolutely prey fear in his eyes. Deer in the headlights when your folks opened the door to greet y'all together for the first time. You might have to actually carry him into the house and just sit with him for a few minutes, cuddle him a bit somewhere alone because he's in a human den of unknown humans. He needs to adjust to the many different scents and sights and sounds. And even if you vouch for them, these humans aren't you- he doesn't trust them the way he trust you and his instincts are absolutely screaming. 0/10 experience for the first few minutes.
Let him take his breaths and he'll gather his nerves to greet your family- but the best way would be to do so one by one. Otherwise it's another overwhelmed break time.
Eventually he might relax enough to rest around them, but Nyx absolutely will never sleep around any humans if you are not actively attached to him in that moment. He'll lay and lounge if he's really exhausted but will never sleep around your family or friends or any human if you aren't actively holding him or just close enough he can feel or at least smell you.
Humans are scary, they won't ever feel safe to him, that's just instinct. But you're his human, his partner. He'll sleep like a baby in your arms if it's just the two of you, and even if he wakes and has a heart attack because why are your eyes dilated in the dark and staring at him?
He's always gonna be a bunny boy. Always gonna be a bundle of nerves and hardwired red flag instincts because he is prey.
He can grow to trust and care about your family, but only really because they're an extention of you, selfish as it might seem.

The concept of Nyx’s Partner being a hunter is so interesting to me. Like Nyx is in danger? Boom! Whatever animal is attacking is immediately dealt with. Nyx wants some clothes to keep him warm? He now has an entire collection of furs and coats at his disposal. I just wanna give him and his family all that I can offer~💖

And they will forever adore you- their own special human!
For some fun, little ideas I keep rotating in my brain:
Rabbit-hybrids are small, like... 3/4ths the size of the average human at best.
They tend to live in burrows together or at least burrow side by side(hobbit-esk design if you need a visual)
This means, the bunny-folks home is tiny compared to a human. And once Nyx's family gets to know you, how gentle you are with their Nyx and with them as extention? Well, that practically makes you family already! Not like Nyx will ever leave your side, everyone in his family can see how enamored he is.
So what do they do? They make you your own chair at the supper table, larger and stronger to support you. They make silverware and dishes that are more your size, grandpa bun even crochets you a blanket twice the size of his normal ones so you can be cozy when staying there too
Grandpa bun, ever the burrow bun(as opposed to house husband) will also try to learn how to cook different sorts of meats for you. It's clumsy at first, but Nyx(who's been studying this like he's in fucking Harvard) helps and Grandpa bun has a good steak and skewers and chicken cooked like a pro
The younger rabbit-hybrids want to play chase and who better to play than the big scary human that they know is super nice? They will swarm you. They might just grab onto a leg or an arm and hang on, just keep walking it's fine it's entertainment.
The elders will want to ask you about your instincts, ones that don't seem useful to you but to them is life changing. What do you mean you have standoffs with other creatures and the first to move breaks the standoff? What do you mean you just throw your weight around to get what needs done done. You can see in the dark? To an impressive degree to them. So if you were hunting and the prey did this what would you do? For no reason other than their own knowledge of course.
The buns your age can be the most weary, they're old enough to know danger, but too young to recognize peace without a plethora of proof. Give them time and you'll be part of the gossip group, it's worth the wait I promise
Nyx will have to fight his own kin away so he can have you all to himself... For a few minutes at least. Just hold his hand, let him sit in your lap and he'll be happy.
Also, humans are carnivorous leaning omnivores. Predators in nature we could say. Any big predator needs naps. The buns are energetic to the nines but the first time you've visiting Nyx's family and you fall asleep on that soft couch? Lounging across it, blissfully sleeping?
It doesn't take long for Nyx to find you, crawl up to lay on your toreso, curling up and falling asleep... Then the young buns gather around, some trying to lay on or next to you, some sprawled on the back of the couch. The young adult buns are next, laying a blanket on the pile, maybe one or two joining but most lounge around the couch. Eventually the elders join as well. Seated in their respective spots and relaxing too.
Human designated nap time is the unspoken burrow law now, so don't be too surprised when you wake to that whole situation.
Welcome to the family!
Oh, and Nyx is total burrow bun material. Learned to cook the foods you enjoy as a human, concerts your home into a nice mix of bunny and human styles for the most comfort, and is pretty much bouncing by the door waiting for you to come home so he can literally jump into your arms, and that's if he didn't leave the house with you.

MORE NXY PLS
Word prompt for him is flowers
My boy returned from the war
"Honey, this is so sweet!" Nyx chimes with an excited jump, peering at the bouque of flowers you'd gone out and picked by hand for him. After so many times of hearing Nyx complain about how so many stores have bad quality flowers, you decided to pick tons of wildflowers for him instead.
With a nod you let him take the bouquet from your hands, watching as his nose twitches while he takes in the different scents, if you could see it you were certain his cotton tail was twitching just as much in excitment.
"Of course, I wanted to make sure you got something you liked!" You turn your head to the side, rubbing the back of your neck slightly as you continue. "Though, I'm always happy to find you fresh wildflowers, I never did understand why you despise store flowers so much. Even those nice flower shops seem to frustrate you even when you don't say it, so why exactly-... oh."
You'd turned back to see Nyx's face down in the bundle of wildflowers and when he looks back up from you he has a few smaller stems and half a leaf hanging from his mouth...
That explains the quality remarks he makes about different flower shops.

Nyx and the word prompt is chocolate ??
"How could you?!"
The startled shriek from your bunny made you jump, ironically enough. The rabbit shaped chocolate fumbling from your hands and landing with a thud on the coffee table in front of you.
Nyx stared in some overly dramatic horror at the rabbit shaped chocolate that had its head bitten off of it.
"What, what did I do??" You ask, turning to watch Nyx from his spot standing in the entryway to your living room. Wondering if you've done something unknowingly as it seems to happen often.
Nyx takes slow steps over, as if in disbelief over what's lying like a murder scene on the coffee table. A decapitated chocolate rabbit. His own head slowly lifts to stare at you with wide eyes and upright ears. The soft white and brown fur seems to have been recently groomed curiously enough. "I'm supposed to be your only bunny."
The words make you freeze, blinking in confusion. "... What?"
"I'm your only bunny! And you've been eating this confectioners recreation of me!" Now that you're watching him, there's the slightest quiver in his expression, he's trying not to laugh. The little troublemaker. You lean back on the couch with a sigh, deciding to play along. "I don't know, that bunny was really sweet-"
It takes less than a breath for Nyx to take the bait, having jumped up to land on your lap, smaller hands on your cheeks as he looks up to you with a challenging expression. "It's sweetness you want, hm?" He leans up to you, resting a hand on your shoulder to support himself as he moves close enough to press soft sweet kisses across your jaw, his words mumbled into your skin. "I can be sweet for you." He presses another kiss to your cheek, finally moving to your lips but not meeting them yet. His voice is almost silent. "I can kiss and cuddle you all night long. Isn't that far sweeter?"
Your gaze settles on him, eyes dilated slightly.
You can see the subtle shiver running down his back, you must be making some sort of expression that's sending his instincts some alarms. The thought makes you smile, this little bunny is so sweet, how could you possibly disagree? So, you pull him closer, yearning far more for a soft cuddling companion over some chocolates. "Of course, how could I ever have thought otherwise?"
"exactly, how could you have when I'm right here." He chirps in response, pressing his lips to yours before shifting to snuggle into your form, rather delighted with how his theatrics have played out. "Now let's watch a movie, pick one out?"
"Pick one out? So you can fuss that it's not interesting enough? No. You're picking."
"But the movie is for you, honey. I just wanna lay with you and if you have something to keep you entertained you won't even move. Prime cuddles."
Such a little troublemaker, how couldn't you love him?

Bedtime thought
Nyx as a bunny-hybrid doesn't have canines or any sort of sharp teeth. They don't eat meat they're not omnivores but plain herbivores
You know how us humans get all in a twist over a big monster with fangs?
Nyx loses his mind over his human partners canines 100% the same way
Bite

Hear me out: What if. Nyx being hunted is how him and his partner met. Eh? Ehhhhh???
Tumblr media
You. I like you
~
Labored breaths, racing hearts, adrenaline pushing both creatures on as they raced through the dense forest.
Nyx was certain this was the fastest he'd ever run before, and with his life on the line he wasn't thinking about much else.
The fox hybrid lunged and snapped at the air where Nyx's brown and white furred ears had only just been.
The bunny boy could feel his heart lurching out of his chest as he leaped over a fallen tree, hoping to take a higher ground to deter the fox from following.
But with a harsh sound of the tree being jumped on, and then the cracking of something lunging forward off of the tree, Nyx was running out of ideas.
His ears briefly perked, hearing the sound of wind from how fast he was running, but in the distance, a voice. One that sent a chill through him
Whatever was making noise was a human, and humans are the riskiest predators to tamper with. Some are kind and might take a picture, some try and offer food, some have small contraptions that explode in fire and metal, a quick death but a death none the less.
With the fox gaining on Nyx, he could either be worn down and face an early death, or take that risk and hope whatever human he was running straight towards would be merciful in any capacity.
Nyx sprang towards the treeline- mentally cheering when he caught wind of the foxes sudden hesitation.
Any victory was stalled as the bunny boy landed in the clearing, feeling the sun on his skin as he landed on the ground, hunched slightly for his body to absorb the shock of the landing and he simply froze
Because you were now staring directly at him, tall and proud and human. Looking tense as if preparing for anything.
You stare at each other for a few moments, analyzing.
If Nyx wasn't overwhelmed with seeing a human for the first time and being chased to become a fox hybrids supper, he might notice just how handsome you appear. How strong and capable you are, and how unnervingly focused your gaze is directly on him.
But with a snap of a branch behind the bunny boy, the moment is over and his small form darts towards you- off all things! He easily drifts through the dirt and grass to position himself hunkered low to the ground and directly behind your legs. His ears perked and staring towards the treeline. Tensed like a coiled spring ready to bolt in an instant but taking a breath while it's granted to him.
"What-" Your voice starts to ring out- to question this rabbit hybrid that's just jumped out of nowhere and is hiding behind you, but you don't get a chance. Another hybrid arrives, this one slightly larger and far more noticable than the last.
A fox.
Springing into the open field and skidding to a stop, staring up at you with a haunted expression. But he must be desperate or dumb enough to attempt to get closer with a smooth and charming tone. "Excuse me, traveler. I believe you have something that belongs to me?" The fox points to the bunny boy hiding behind you, brown and white fur, matching hair, and absolutely frozen in place.
You glance down slightly, catching sight of the bunny boy once more. After a moment your gaze rises to the fox. "Doesn't look like he's yours. Matter of fact, it looks like he's mine."
Nyx feels his heart racing as he's hunkered low in the far too open field for his comfort. His ears perk and he feels a shiver creeping up his spine at just how easily you've denied a predator anything. As casually as if you were saying the sky is blue, or the grass is green, the rabbit is yours.
The fox however, hesitates, his charming grin fading slightly.
Nyx can feel the tension from your form, the foxes own muscles tightening as if he's prepared to lunge. Two predators ready to fight for the sake of one rabbit. One wants to eat him, and Nyx isn't quite sure what you're wanting- but he's certainly willing to take the chances.
When the fox lunges, it's too quick for Nyx to think to spring away- and all he can do is watch the moment pass by like a speeding bullet.
The fox lunges, you cross an arm over your chest, something in hand, and when the fox is just close enough your hand swiped towards its head, the motion sending the fox flying sideways into a far too silent and still heep of red fur and skin and bones.
Nyx is frozen, wide eyed as he catches the scent of blood, and peers up to spot what was in your hand. A jagged stone, flecks of blood on it and your fingertips.
The bunny boy tenses even further- wondering if now is the best time to spring away if you were fast enough to strike down such a tricky fox.
He decides against everything when you turn to peer down at him. Nyx can feel a chill seeping into his very bones at how calm you appeared.
Your entire demeanor seemed to drop once the stone dropped from your hand, and you're crouching down in front of him, intentionally lowering yourself to be closer to his height. "Hey, hey, it's over now. Are you alright? He didn't get a hold of you did he?"
Nyx spies your extended hand, palm open to him. His eyes never leave yours as he places his hand in your blood stained one. And his mind is reeling, because you're a human. And you went from the epitomy of an apex predator who'd just killed another predator, to an almost harmless, gentle, and softened demeanor. "He didn't get me. We were just talking, and I thought he was nice, and then he tried to bite me." Poor Nyx can't keep the temple out of his tone.
The predator he thought was safe wanted nothing more than to eat him, and this one that appeared terrifying and sent chills up his spine was choosing to be gentle, choosing to be kind. "I... I thought he was gonna eat me-" it's a pitiful sob the bunny boy lets out and the next thing he knows, this predator kneeling with him has him wrapped up and held close.
Your voice is soft and quiet, trying to ease his nerves as best you can. "Shh, it's all over now. You're safe. I've got you, bunny." Your hand smoothes down the unkempt fur of his floppy ears, and his wild hair. And all Nyx can do is nuzzle his face into your chest, clinging to this unexpected comfort.
Humans are predators. Horrifying, powerful, dangerous predators.
But some humans are also kind and gentle, you are.
And that's everything Nyx could have hoped for, and more.

Okay okay, we know nyx is Itty bitty compared to his s/o.
BUT
his s/o may be pretty small for humans standards no? What would happen if nyx was faced with an EVEN BIGGER human threatening his human s/o? What's his reaction in that case? Is he gonna help in some way, (especially if he sees his fearless and strong s/o scared and intimidated) or would he bounce out of there without his s/o?
Oh, the moment his human deems themselves unable to be strong enough for whatever they're facing? All bets are off
Either he's dragging you away at a full sprint as best he can, or he might feel cornered enough to lash out, jumping up and kicking at whoever was the stronger opponent, letting instincts purely guide him bc Nyx isn't a fighter, but if he's cornered his mind goes blank and generations of survival techniques kick in and either you run or you fight just to knock someone off their guard and then run.
Pretty much it'll end in him guiding you while taking off
And he's gonna be shaken for some time, in his eyes you're the biggest fish in the pond as it were, but once he realizes that you're not he's gonna find you and climb into your lap for a cuddle, full nine-yards to comfort because he knows you've noticed his less enthusiastic approach to you the last little bit or so after getting home.
Sitting on your lap, stroking your hair and holding onto you, "You are so brave to be able to say when you can't do something. And a mate who knows when they're out of depth and is ready to leave for everyone's safety is far smarter than the mate who gets themselves eaten by trying to fight something you know you can't beat."
Not that another human would have eaten you (probably) but for Nyx, that's bunny boy life. You lose you get left to be eaten or eaten straight up.
After a moment he might look a little smug as well, "I saved my human... I get why you're saving me all the time, what a rush."
And he's just not leaving your side out of both pride in his responses and nervousness to have almost seen you get hurt at best.

What would bring angst to nyx and his s/o's relationship?
Would there be any "bad pre conceived ideas" agasint nyxs s/o from others of his kind?
Also, weird question: Could his species breed with humans and have a viable offspring?? What would that child be like? Would it be more human with some rabbit traits or the opposite?
While I'm the main proponent of no NSFW prompts this is plain scientific curiosity and that I encourage
Talks of reproduction capabilities and results in the most scientific ramble below heads up
If Nyx's partner has a uterus (and if he wasn't either ace due to my preference or just did something out of curiosity) I'd say it's similar to two animals from sister species having offspring. A donkey and a horse can produce a mule but mules can't have offspring together. Due to unmatched chromosomes from the horse and donkey counterparts mostly, so they're infertile.
If a rabbit-hybrid and human had a kid, it would be low chance, and would take on more traits of the more dominant species, a human.
This could work many different ways, but mostly how you phrased it, a rabbit-hybrid that looks more human like than others.
As for your first remarks, absolutely.
Nyx is a prey species, his family is a prey species and they live in a community of burrows where other rabbit-hybrids live. Humans are by nature predators and as such are usually larger, stronger, and far more dangerous. Humans do eat rabbits, I have before when my folks hunted some down and added them to the family gathering menu
Nyx got off on the best foot with his human because they(you) saved his life, proving that humans can be just as helpful as they can harmful. For Nyx, it takes a long time of convincing his family to just meet you, and also to let him leave the burrow again because he promised to meet up with you and they were terrified for his life.
Cause to rabbit-hybrids or prey species hybrids, humans are hunters, carnivores at the top of their food chain by sheer force of will and intelligence, having grown to outrank their own predators. Humans are feared, respected from afar for the good that they can do, but mostly feared. In a way it's almost superstitious like when a human talks about fae
"never accept their food or else you'll be hooked" humans are just damn good cooks. "Never allow them to take you away, you'll return knowing little of your own world and remember unfathomable knowledge." If you let a stray cat come inside it's gonna get socialized to a person through effort. It's gonna forget how to survive on its own bc it's taken good care of by it's human and will learn how to 'converse' with humans and human ways. Am I making sense?
There's also generally separation between humans and most prey like species. Obviously some couple together but it's a more unpopular thing to see and can be a bit difficult.
There's also a power imbalance in the relationship that's always needing to be remembered. Nyx is small and weak compared to his human partner, he can easily be scared by them and while sometimes it's fun, his human has to remember to be calm with him. One big explosion of anger towards him and he'll fall back on instincts and flee and hide. Then it's an emotional mess for everyone because you scared your bunny boy and he wants to feel safe and only feels safest when you hold him but you're the one that scared him and he's lost at that moment.
Challenges but damn the sweet moments make it worth it

not a very organized thought, but-
i'm imagining how Nyx would deal with things if his human falls ill. maybe a common cold, maybe something a bit more difficult. either way, his capable human suddenly can barely get out of bed. you don't have to measure your strength to interact with him cause you feel so weak. and though you insist he doesn't have to help, you can deal with it on your own, Nyx still feels the need to help. he tries to figure out human medicine, making foods that your sensitive stomach can process, maybe even dealing with some feverish delirium. he even starts using bunny remedies with you, cause he just doesn't know what to do... the poor bunny is so stressed out,, he's not gonna ask it of you, but you definitely are going to want to make it up to him with so many cuddles once you're feeling better <3
He's dying
Mentally, not literally. Nyx isn't incapable but he is reminded of how much he's come to depend on his human once they're out of the count
He doesn't CARE if he's getting sick. You're laying back and letting him handfeed you this veggie soup he made. You're lucky he's willing to add chicken to it in small chunks bc cutting up meat is an odd feeling for him! So lay back already don't be stubborn and let your bunny take care of you!
In reality his attitude would be 100% babying I'm sorry he's so worried he coddles so much.
"My poor honey, I'm so sorry you feel so bad, oh, your blanket fell off your shoulder, let me tuck it back into place. Do you want me to make you a warm tea? I can help you drink it too, you know you need warm fluids to soothe your throat. I'll add some honey too-"
Doesn't leave you alone until you're ready to throw a pillow at him bc he over pampers when he's stressed! Please don't ask him to leave the room, he needs to see your breathing at all times or his anxiety will spiral into you being dead and him having to find a body(old asks about death, hi). Let him just sit in the room? He'll stay quiet and maybe embroider his new shirt he got recently, and if you don't mind yours as well. He just wants to keep his ears towards you, hearing you breathe, your heart beat. Please...

Angst
How do bun people deal with DEATH? How would they mourn, what are their rituals like? What would happen if a family member from nyxs family died?
Follow up
How would he feel about his mate dying?
(I love angst, give me all the angst)
Pain and anguish and death and decay and rot and-
Read the tags folks, I don't want anyone caught off guard even if things are tame and non graphic 👍
Bunny-folks are deeply in tune with nature and earth. I think for them it isn't as mournful as it is for humans. You lay your dead in the earth, bury them deep, cover them with a blanket, and feel comforted knowing they will feed the land that fed them for their lifetime
Nyx is of similar mindset... This is where the issues begin
Humans are loud about how death feels to them. Some are quiet and grieve silently, some are vocal especially if it's not then grieving.
So for Nyx's partner to pass of course he's in agony, his safe space, his love, his incredible mate who made him feel strong and protected and capable of anything and so cherished... Is just gone.
He could take solace in them resting peacefully in the earth, as if in the deepest sleep they so very much deserve for such a life they lived
But humans hardly let one of their own rest even after death.
Because many places have laws for the dead. You can't be buried here, you can't be buried this way, you have to be buried in an approved zone you have to be bound in a box you have to be taken away by a mortician and carved open and analyzed and prepared all alone with no one to protect your body and it's law and Nyx is breaking apart because the last thing he can do is protect what was yours and let you be laid to a gentle peace but instead your body is hoarded and hounded by greed and others deciding what to do with you even though they don't know you-
For the first time Nyx feels almost feral, he wants to bite to kick to scream to fight and sob and wail and mourn he just wants you to be given peace and rest so why won't these damned strangers leave???
He has to be held back actually. Whenever someone eventually comes to take your body for 'approved' handling of a corpse, he has to be held back by his family or even another human at worst because he will fight everyone with everything in him because they can't take you life already left you, death has claimed you and what little of you he can lay to peace is being taken and he's screaming his throat raw until his voice gives out and he's a trembling exhausted slumping form.
You're buried in a cemetery. In a box. No blanket to tuck you in for your final rest, no gentle earth to hold you and express its gratitude for your return to its grasp. You've been buried close to strangers. His family that has become your own is nowhere here.
The cemetery is far colder than the warmth of the forest where the only headstones are the favorite type of trees planted where someone has been laid to rest.
Nyx is in agony. He's lost you, and he's ready to break.
But he can't even find peace in ensuring you've been given the rest you deserve, and for that he wishes he could dig into the cold soil and rest with you, just so you're not alone down there, just so he's not alone up here.
If no one stops him, he very well might.
It's dark so late at night.
The cemetery is cold.
No one is here.
He weeps.
He digs.
