Ignore me if I’m just misreading your posts, but I think you might be mixing up Nyarlathotep and Yaldabaoth? Nyarlathotep is the one who has the cosmic war for humanity with Philemon going on in the Persona 2 duology. Yaldabaoth is a separate entity, like Izanami and Nyx.
....... holy shit you are right, i AM mixing them up
so is Philemon just not... involved at all? even though, like, didn't he make Igor in the first place and butterflies are his thing and they're all over this game
is P5R just casually snipping that symbolic thread between Philemon and the blue butterfly
wait so was Yaldabaoth's game.... with anyone? was he just playing silly buggers by himself?
gdi i think i have to pull up my screencaps and reread that whole explainer, UGH i'll do that tomorrow
gnosticism and the cthulhu mythos are nothing like each other, how'd i mess that up
but in that case......
ugh whatever, i'm too tired to argue with persona 5 the royal right now, yawwwwwwn

Yes St. Hermelin is a Catholic school.

It uses a Chi Rho in its emblem. Along side the Chi Rho there is also a Star of David. Thus I think that maybe the students of St. Hermelin do get basic knowledge about Christianity and Judaism but it probably isn’t a strictly religious school. Maybe if students like Eriko for example are interested they do get the opportunity to pursue religion further.
A Hermelin as a symbol also points at European influence due to the legend of a white hermelin rather wanting to die than staining its fur.

比麗文上人
Hiremon actually is a veiled reference to Philemon. He is also called a ‘saint’.

鳴羅門火手怖
Narurato Hotefu

☕️ Persona 5
Persona 2 (both IS and EP) spoilers:
Oh boy. My least favorite Megaten game. Okay, I'll try to keep it short.
In a nutshell, p5 is my least favorite game I’ve ever played. I found the gameplay to be unbalanced and not fun, the music was grating, the UI was cluttered and chaotic, and the art generally was just ugly to me. Even worse, between the anime tropes, fan service, contradictory themes, and reused plot points from previous persona games, I can't say that I enjoyed the writing at all.
The last point is a gripe I have with P3-5 in general, but it was especially noticeable in P5. We've got "Joker" and the "Masked Circle" going up against the "New World Order" headed by a corrupt politician who has a contract serial killer son. We've got a long-haired hacker whose ultimate persona is Prometheus and they have guilt surrounding the death of a loved one. We've got Philemon's and Nyarlathotep's bet. We’ve got dungeons that are the physical manifestation of warped desires. Not to mention that Morgana says in one of the Royal trailers that there is no justice in granting dreams, which is very similar to Maya telling Jun that dreams aren't meant to be given.
I've barely started listing all the similarities, but I'll stop here for now.
Anyway, P5 feels like they just grabbed a bunch of great plot points, characters, and symbolism from the previous games (and SMT If...) and just stuffed anime cliches and tropes in between. I'm also still very disturbed that the narrative paints an abuse victim as annoying and a joke character, and you have dialogue options which are essentially bullying him without any negative repercussions. Bottom line, P5 is not an enjoyable game for me.
This is purely just my opinion by the way! I am in no way trying to tell people what they can or can't like. P5 is popular and there are people who enjoy it so that's great for them.
Thank you for asking!
send me a ☕ and a topic, and i'll give you my thoughts on it!
