The possibility of a sequel for Akayona

It's been mentioned several times in the story that Soowon's ultimate goal is to conquer Kai, the biggest threat to Kouka.

However, from the way the story's going, I feel like the manga will end before that happens. Right now we're in the final arc and the last villains seem to be the dragon gods. It looks like there's no room for a second war with South Kai and even less one with North Kai, which leads me to think about the possibility of a sequel in which Kouka conquers the two Kais.

One might think that in the last chapter we'll get a prologue in which we learn that both North and South Kai were subjugated, but I feel like it'd be too underwhelming. I believe that South Kai isn't doomed yet. While Kouka might've defeated the majority of its armies, Mei-Nyan did mention that they could request reinforcements from North Kai if needed, and that South Kai had 8 great generals.

We've only seen 5 out of the 8, and it seems North Kai's troops weren't requested during the previous battle, which means South Kai still got a few assets up its sleeve. I would find it a shame if all these details were skipped/ forgotten and we only got two panels that said South Kai was conquered.

As for North Kai, only one of its provinces was conquered by Kouka: the Sen province formerly ruled by Lee Hazara. The rest of the country is still vast and could pose a threat, especially since the country seems to be infested with greedy powerful families.

We were also teased about their empror, his name is "Sheng Hong" and apparently he's cousin with Chagol?!Lmao.

In any case, I wouldn't want for all this info to be swept under the rug. It would be nice if we could expand on it properly in a sequel instead of rushing things in the prologue.

All this to say that if we're lucky enough to have a sequel about the conquest of the two Kais, I'd like it to focus on the same cast of main characters we've had 'till now instead of their children. I dislike Boruto types of stories and while I do want to see the children, I believe they're better off as side characters. When the children take the lead the parents oftenly get nerfed or disappear with little to no explanation.

What do you think about all of this? Do you believe in the possibility of a sequel? And what would you like to see in it?

I've thought about the hero and monster duo that Nyan encounters in the anti-hero AU, and I think I actually want to expand it slightly to include an additional hero. Names and brief descriptions below.

Stray Ranger: a man clad in a non-specific WW1-era army uniform, and sporting a bolt-action rifle. Quiet and reserved, both in tone and expression, making him somewhat intimidating or otherwise offputting to most strangers, but ultimately wise and kind-hearted. Former Hero Association member (C-Class).

Starshot: a spacesuited man equipped with a railgun and blaster pistol. Personality is quite opposite of Stray's; cheerful and up-beat, which is usually welcoming to those who don't know him, and makes him a source of comfort to most who get to know him better. Former Hero Association member (B-Class).

Io: humanoid feline with black fur and yellow eyes. Timid and jumpy around those he isn't familiar with, which isn't terribly surprising as being a monster has meant having to worry about being hunted down by heroes, and shunned by humanity in general for much of his life. Former Monster Association member (Disaster Level: Wolf).

There is, perhaps, no more perfect cat than the General, trotting up to Caelus with a happy little trill. Fluffy and rotund, with a happy little face and jingling bell on its collar, fur pristine and white and its tail held high like a proud little flag. Truly, perfection. Even as it hops onto the bench next to Caelus and places a paw on a thigh to sniff his face in greeting, and leaves a dusty, perfect little pawprint on his pants.

Blessed be thee, Caelus. Bestowed with a mark of perfection.

The dignity in these motions.

To witness how even the artificial sun above seems to operate to the General's approaching motions, it was a sight that caused many of the runaround alley cats to actually settle down. To situate themselves in a way of honoring the soul who decides to find companionship with enigmatic Trailblazer. His face may have been busied with the wonders of those spiced dumplings, but that certainly hadn't stopped Caelus's own comically rotund face was glancing towards a familiar face.

"Youff--" He murmured, picking the time to speak before downing the portion of a flavorful meal. With his features snapping back to their original frame, his eyes gleamed with a sense of welcome as an honorary method of greeting takes place! That snoofer was sniffing yet, done in a way that bestows elegance and grace. The view in itself leaves him momentarily speechless, a sense of warmth drawn within his heart even as a pawprint leaves itself vigil upon his coat.

Countless people would've picked this moment to actually commune with the cat in a loving, spoiling fashion. Caelus however had a different plan with his way of the trailblaze. Similar to Jing Nyan, he'd allow his eyes to close, for darkness to momentary grace his senses and for the height of his other internalized ways of perceiving the world to heighten. Then and only then would he proceed to use his own powers of the olfactory. Right now, the Xianzhou would bare witness to the bond between man and cat.

Warrior and General.

"Seamless as always. I take it there's another grandiose, unpredictable tale underneath the notches of your fur?" Caelus draws as an ice breaker. Even then, each sniff performed by him was meticulous, matching his companion as the buns are momentarily set side. Each sniff was a rite of companionship, a wish to learn more, to refamiliarize himself with a friend while trying to glean new idle details from their journey. There just happens to be one issue with this method that was beginning to attract stares.

Caelus's nose was not like a cats. There was nothing he could tell from this at all! Just that this lil guy does an incredible job at keeping himself clean!

Also that a small army of cats decided to make him their leader. It was simply fate charting its course.

They'd barely even bat an eyelash lol. Shoutaro isn't the go-to person for missing cat cases for nothing, you know. His reputation as the Cat Whisperer precedes him, and he's also a magnet for cryptids... this is just the two coming together in one incident

thinking about the most recent chapter of yona of the dawn... this is sort of just Assorted Yona Thoughts ig lol

honestly i was 100% expecting soo-won to be the one to die first and they find out a way to save the dragons (the crimson king's avatar is in the world again and so there's magical fuckery?) but its interesting that there's like. not a lot of narrative buildup to jae-ha (specifically) dying. like obv there's the dream that implies the dragons will die soon but soo-won has had way more narrative tension piled around his illness so tbh i dont think this death is permanent. none of the prev dragons died by turning into big monsters and then also goop, too, so i feel like it's more likely that the chalice being removed from the mausoleum (or specifically the og dragon's coffin?) is what's affecting them so badly.

if anything, having zeno out of the four dragons be the one to actually die prematurely (assuming jae-ha isn't really dead) would be pretty impactful - if the dragons lose their powers but die after a normal lifespan, thus ensuring the powers don't continue to be reborn, it would probably wrap up nicely by the end, especially if with soo-won (and mei-nyan?)'s death the crimson illness dies out too.

despite thinking (hoping) the dragons arent dying, i do think soo-won needs to die. unless they spend like, 3 arcs figuring out a way to ~harness the power of the crimson dragon and reunite with his blood~ or something, any cure would be really anticlimactic. theyve gotta resolve soo-won and hak's whole arcs with wanting to hold on to/let each other go first though. i did wonder bc i can see a dramatic confrontation where hak is the one to kill soo-won, leading to a whole "hak being an enemy of the state who is shaken up by soo-won admitting he still held affection for him and yona -> yona, as the sovereign, pardons him -> her impartiality/right to the throne is questioned" arc, but thinking about it more that seems super unlikely bc of how much his illness has been set up... im excited to see yona as ruler of kouka, tho, and if she has opinions on the border exchanges soo-won is facilitating. as someone who was on the ground during a lot of those skirmishes it would make sense if she wanted to peacefully redistribute some of the land kouka claimed that wasn't one of the cities that were "originally" under kouka's rule, but that would maybe undermine her to the other advisors after soo-won?? idk. i can also see smth where soo-won deliberately passes the throne to yona and (whether cured or not) ends up living longer but as a sort of. advisor to the throne or something.

i do hope tho that when yona is in charge they don't make hak king through marriage - i think him being the sky army general or possibly still yona's bodyguard/queen's consort or whatever makes more sense for his character, and yona needs to be the accepted ruler, not seen as just the queen to hak. i guess a workaround is if yona becomes queen and hak becomes the prince, or if yona is given the title of king regardless, but idk what terminology they'll go for if that happens.

Chapter 47:

The four are still getting through the traps, Jake inferring that the monster corpses mean they're getting close...but fuck them, the rich guy is cursing out his minions for dying to the traps, saying that they're using them up before the four even get there. Then he asks a big demon guy, Naoshikai, where to go from there. Naoshikai leads him (finally giving him a name: Choukai) into a cave with a dead end. Choukai reminds Naoshikai that the Holy Hall is important and that Yakumo cannot reach there. If he does, Benaresu will kill them all. Naoshikai tells him to chill, revealing he has Teinzuin's brain and that it has the path to Konron imprinted inside it still. He directs him to a small hole off to the side that has a lever that will open the path. Choukai, noticing the four getting close, is confident that a trap that he himself set up will be the end of them...

The group are arguing about Jake saying that they're in Konron, not heading to it before they spot Hong-Nyan trapped under some bones. Yakumo figures out immediately that it's a trap that Choukai set but Pai falls for it hook line and sinker, summoning a monster that lunges for her.

Meanwhile, Choukai and Naoshikai get to the last barrier but they can't get in without the key. So, ironically, they have to wait for Yakumo to show up so that they can take it from him with their army. One of the monsters mentions feeling bad about leaving Ran Pao Pao in a trap but Choukai says sacrifices have to made. But, since she's in her Hong-Nyan form, Yakumo might bring her along with him anyway. If they live long enough...Choukai might be fucking dumb.

Anyway, Yakumo saves Pai from the monster. She thanks him but tells him to save Hong-Nyan, annoying him. He points out that it's another of Choukai's traps but Pai says Hong-Nyan is a good girl. Yakumo counters that even if that's true, she can turn into the Ran Pao Pao that tore off his arm. Pai says he did it to her first. Yakumo, understandably losing his patience, says he did it to her because she was trying to kill them. So they are at an impasse...again. Pai asks Jake to do something which pisses Yakumo off further as Jake frees Hong-Nyan from the trap. Jake then tells them to plug her ears; if Choukai blows his whistle, she'll turn back into Ran Pao Pao. Yakumo feels like a jerk for thinking this was another one of Choukai's traps...then the chapter ends with the real trap: a monster holding up Teinzuin's corpse.

For me, it won't be occ for Yona to consider Soo-Won’s decision to move forward as a chance for her to find her friends. If I'm not wrong, hasn't she been recently shown as someone who comes up w plans (even Soo-Won seems to fail at that compared to her as it seems..), leading the army, etc etc?? So, given those facts, it's pretty natural for her to think that way...

I see,I definitely failed to consider this point here because yes she has been successful in coming up w plans(like the mission to save mei nyan iirc).

I didn't mean that Yona wishes to be a ruler/leader. I meant that from the narrative pov. The story seems to be going to the path of making her the ruler (therefore, all those sudden events of her smoothly handling the kai emissaries, generals taking her sides & having disagreement with Soo-Won even tho his decisions were more or less right for the current situation). Hence, why not they make her more capable/smart for that very purpose??

I agree yes, it's true that the story is moving that way, but most of the recent developments weren't up to the mark tbh. Suwon's decision,like you said was more or less correct as not utilizing their current opportunity wouldn't be the best move, while Yona's meeting w the Kai dignitaries...yes Yona looked cool and badass there but her mastering diplomacy and foreign policies within 3 days w/o any prior education +reading Yonhi's memoirs as well was..uhm..anyways . I can see how this might've been an opportunity to redeem things a little in your view ig. It feels more like an inconsistency from the writing pov....

I agree w the rest tho! I started the manga because of how good Yona's intial development in the anime was,and it definitely did continue nicely till a certain point.

I think he had a point that there is an opportunity and besides if Yona is looking for her dragon friends who got captured, because she wanted to save Mei-nyan then what better idea there is then to go forward? She doesn't have a clue anyway where they are exactly, so going forward may lead them somewhere or provide clues. Does she even have a better plan? To my understanding she doesn't have any better plan.

What is strange to me is that the Earth Tribe is already so exhausted. They fought how many battles? 2? If we count Yona's idea of saving Mei-nyan. They fought 2 battles, both of which they won, which should put them in good spirit and strengthen morals. Not to mention that dragons appeared to do away with reinforcements from Kai. Things are in general going super great for Kouka, a much smaller country kicking the ass of a much bigger country. They don't fight for months, I guess the fighting could have taken weeks, but not many months. So why are they suddenly so terribly exhausted? And why is their morale so low if Kouka is clearly and undoubtably winning?

But I think I know why, Soo-won needs to appear a bit too eager to conquer Kai, to prove he has misguided, evil ambitions from his father and as someone who doesn't have a good contact with ordinary soldiers / doesn't care about them, so Yona could appear as the person closer to people.

Also, Yona appears to me as someone who makes decisions, puts people in danger, but is not ready to shoulder responsibility for doing so. The main reason why her friends are kidnapped is because she wanted to save Mei-nyan. Had she not done it, they would not be kidnapped now. I am not sure why Soo-won is shown as the evil one now for not wanting to help. Like Yona dear, it was your idea, no one is obliged to bear consequences of your actions and rectifying them. Not to mention that Soo-won's idea of taking the opportunity and going forward could help her to save the dragons, but oh well.
