NXT Takeover:Philadelphia and Royal Rumble 2018 Review
Well it looks like i’m back..and i’ll be back for more review (or other stuff when i feel like i need to write about something) So let’s not waste time and see how Takeover:Philadelphia and the Rumble went
NXT Takeover Philadelphia:
NXT Tag Team Championship: Authors of Pain vs Undisputed Era:
Personally I would have never opened the show with this bout, because I wasn't expecting anything from it and because it wasn't the right match to start things off. They could have swapped this with Ohno-Dream and have a better opener. Sluggish and slow match even tho some spots were good, AOP keep getting better and better while Fish and O'Reilly probably are the best tag team in WWE right now with the Usos. Weird finish because I though Undisputed Era would go over but not like this and with like this I mean in a clean way. Main roster is closing in for Paul Ellering's Boys and SAnitY is waiting for the two Brits.[**1/2] Kassius Ohno vs The Velveteen Dream:
Another really solid Match for Velveteen dream who is someone still a bit green on the ring, while ohno is a 19 year old veteran who could make a good match even with a ladder. Velveteen dream is probably the best character right now at NXT and it's really working well because you can notice how much they are investing in Him and in his character. The match and a few botches here and there but honestly they didn't ruin the match at all. Good win for the former Tough Enough Participant who is destined to do great things on NXT.[***] NXT Women's Championship: Ember Moon vs Shayna Baszler:
Easily the worst match of the night. Slow, sluggish, not well booked and the result wasn't the one I was looking for, because I thought they wanted to have Shayna destroy and conquer anyone on NXT after the good performance for the MYC but she lost with a schoolboy and Ember kept the title. I like how they want to build Ember as a character but at the same time I still think she won't keep the title for a Long time(Kairi is waiting) [**]
Extreme Rules: Adam Cole vs Aleister Black:
I had a good hype for this match because i thought it could possibily steal the show but it only kinda did. Not a fan of the first minutes of it but it picked up the rythm and both guys went in hard and showed us a couple of really good spots, like the doubles knees on the announcers table or the death valley driver on the back of the chair. O'reilly and Fish Interference was predictable while i wasn't expecting Sanity to Help Black during the match. Black got the win and now he's probably the new #1 contender for the NXT Title at the WrestleMania weekend Takeover, unless they have other plans for the main event. Easily the second best match of the night [***1/2]
NXT Championship: Johnny Gargano vs Andrade Cien Almas:
Let's start that you HAVE to watch this match, because if you don't, probably you're not a real wrestling fan (unless you don't have time to watch it and probably you've got something better to do). Personally this is what i want from any match that goes last in a wrestling event card. It was really perfect: it had a good storyline, good wrestling, good timing and it wasn't predictable at all, because at times i thought both could won the match. Gargano is probably one of the best worker in the business and Almas is litteraly very underrated by the fans and i'm so glad they gave him the NXT Title. I also loved how they involved Candice LeRae, Johnny's wife, in the match so he could help his husband to preveil Zelina (really love her character) from interfereinging in the match. Almas picks up the win with a perfect Hanging Hammerlock DDT from the top rope. I was expecting Ciampa to interfere in the match but his return happened at the end of the match, and even tho it makes a lot of sense for him to ruin his ex partner moment, i personally didn't like how he returned, only because they could have done so much more and make it better, but still i can't wait for the ex D.I.Y Showdown, while Almas will probably face Black soon for the title. Five Star and MOTY Candidate.[*****]
Takeover Event: It Wasn't the best TakeOver event i ever saw, but it wasn't the worst, because we had a solid match between Dream and Ohno, a good extreme rules and a perfect main event. The Tag Team Match and the women's title match felt very average but not as bad as some matches we see on the main roster. The Next Takeover could be huge with some potential match and the new addictions of Ricochet, War Machine and my man EC3. [7]
Royal Rumble:
WWE Championship Handicap match: AJ Styles vs Sami Zayn&Kevin Owens:
They decided to open the show with the WWE Title Match, which in my honest opinion, wasn't a good choice, because while watching it i felt that it wasn't the right match to hype the crowd after a pretty boring 2 hours pre-show(which i won't cover because i honestly don't have much to say about it). The Match was fine but i didn't liked how it was booked, because the finish clearly made Zayn and Owens look really stupid, but to be honest it's not the first time they make heels look very stupid (it won't be the first time i say this in the review). Styles got the W with a Roll-up to end a match who started really flat and started getting better in the last minutes but the finish killed the momentum of the match. [***]
2 out of 3 Falls SD Live Tag Team Championship: Usos vs Shelton Benjamin&Chad Gable:
This match or the Raw Tag Team Title Match could have been the opener and it would have been a better choice based on the kind of match these two team put on. The match was really fun untill the first finish, which personally felt really weird because usually in this kind of matches, heels get the first fall, the babyface get the second one and the decider goes either to one of them based on the storyline they are telling. In this case, Gable and Benjamin tried to be smart but instead they looked really stupid because Benjamin ate the decisive pin after a roll up, who killed a really solid match so far. Personally i would have given Gable&Benjamin the titles but i guess the SD Creative has other plans for the belts and i smell the beginning of a new chapter of the Usos vs Harper&Rowan rivalry.[***1/4]
Men's Royal Rumble:
Who would have thought that they would place the Men's Rumble in the middle of the card? Honestly it wasn't a smart choice, even tho i understand why it wasn't the main event, but at least it could have been after the other tag team match or even before the women's one. It wasn't perfect but it was for sure very fun, especially in the last part. The NXT Guys, Shane Helms and Rey Mysterio were all unxpected surprise and i'm really happy for Mysterio, even tho i'm not his biggest fan. The finish was awesome, not just because the right wrestler won, but because they kept teasing us and made us believe both could get the win and the wrestlemania main event. Nakamura win is the right choice for because because a SD Live Superstar needed to win the Rumble and this is the best way to get a Nakamura-Styles match for the WWE Title at WrestleMania. Also Guys like Roman or Cena don't need the Rumble to get the main event of WrestleMania, because they can earn it in other ways. Not a WONDERFUL (read that in Broken Matt Hardy voice) Rumble, but possibily the best one since the time Undertaker won, which if i remember correctly, was at the 2007 edition of the Royal Rumble.[****]
Raw Tag Team Championship: The Bar vs Seth Rollins & Jason Jordan
Easily the worst match on the main card, not because it sucked, but because it was very flat and they didn't much to deliver a great match, possibly because they worked the rumble before the match, which is a bit stupid if you ask me. The Bar got their titles back and i hope this won't end up with Rollins facing Jordan at WrestleMania. Please WWE, don't waste Rollins in this kind of match. I also wonder who will be the next tag team champs, because i don't think Sheamus e Cesaro won't have a long title reign. [**]
Universal Championship 3 way: Brock Lesnar vs Kane vs Braun Strowman:
It was the match it should have been: short but intense and chaotic. I wasn't expecting a five star rated match but not even a minus five star one. Braun looked like a beast, Brock won and Kane ate the pin as expected. Nothing more to add.[**1/2]
Women's Royal Rumble:
As it was the first one, WWE decided to honour their former stars so they picked more legends instead of more NXT girls for the match. For some of us, it was a good idea, for some of us it was a bad idea. I'm staying in the middle here, because part of me liked to see all those great girls i used to watch wrestle while i was younger, but at the same time i kinda wanted to see in the rumble wrestlers like the Iconic Duo or Nikki Cross. Personally they should have found a good mix between NXT and legends, but i won't complain too much. Instead i will complain on the last four, because personally i felt it was better to have Sasha eliminate Bayley and then let her challenge asuka for the win instead having the former Kana wrestle the Bella Twins. The right girl won but then Ronda Rousey came out...now, i like and always will like Ronda, loved her in UFC even tho her last fights were pretty terrible and her UFC career ended really on a bad note, but her debut seemed like WWE wanted her to steal the spotylight from Asuka and the other girls, the one who made history competing in the first ever Women's Royal Rumble. It felt like “Hey we can't compete with the SuperBowl Buzz so let's send out Ronda to steal some buzz and media coverage” I'm still interested to see how Ronda will do in the squared circle and who will face her at Mania. Going back to match analysis, the match was fine, not as good as the men's rumble but i enjoyed it. I'd say entertaining in some aspects (even more than the men's one), but booking wise there are a few thing they could have done better (like Dana Brooke eliminating Kairi Sane from the Rumble. That made no sense) [***1/2]
The event: good start for the WWE's 2018 PPV year. A Good Rumble PPV who didn't have a MOTY candidate like Takeover:Philly, but it was overall a really good and entertaining PPV who delivered, gifted us some really historic moments and for once it didn't felt like a normal mediocre WWE PPV, like a lot last year's PPVs that felt like a little better Raw or SDLive episode. Good start for the Road to WrestleMania *points at the Mania sign*[7.25]

fuck it answer all of them
FSDJGHKH i love you ok i’ll do all the ones i haven’t done from previous asks
1) favorite theme song? edge, christian, sasha banks, and johnny gargano are my favorites!!
2) wrestlers you met? well uh. a lot now that i’m in wrestling training lol. i met johnny gargano, candice lerae, and drew mcintyre as a fan, and tons more once i started helping out at shows haha. i’ve trained with drew gulak and orange cassidy so that’s cool. i also saw chuck taylor sitting 10 feet away from me on the bleachers at training but i had to head home, he was on his phone, and i didn’t want him to be annoyed with me so i didn’t bother him to say hi fhjkjfh
3) wrestling crush? i’m just gonna say my boyfriend who is also training to be a wrestler lmao
6) favorite companies? wwe and aew i guess are my favorite companies, but i’m not necessarily loyal to the brands as much as i am to the wrestlers that work for them. i like watching njpw, beyond, and chikara a lot too
7) favorite merch you own? my johnny gargano shirt i got at takeover philly, and my orange cassidy shirt bc it’s comfy
9) wrestler you wanna meet most? i’d really like to meet chris jericho bc he’s one of my favorite wrestlers i haven’t met yet and inspired me a lot when i decided i wanted to start wrestling, same with any of the 4hw!
10) favorite notice from a wrestler? idk what to say since i’ve introduced myself to a lot of wrestlers by this point lol but drew gulak told me i had “good shit” after training one time and that boosted my confidence a lot jfskdfjh
13) wrestling idol?
chris jericho because he’s still trying to innovate after 30 years in wrestling and that inspires me a lot
bayley and sasha bc they inspired me as a female to start training
orange cassidy because he can do almost anything in the ring but he doesnt have to, he can get people invested by making moments instead of just doing moves and i want to be that good at match psychology one day too
14) when did you become a fan? 2014, when i was watching wrestlemania xxx with my family!
15) do you want to wrestle? currently training to! i’m two matches in with practice matches, i’m really hoping that by this time next year at least then i’ll have an idea of when i’ll be debuting in front of an audience!!
17) what do you love about your fav? well chris jericho is my all-time fave, like i said above i love that he still tries to think of creative, innovating things after so much time in wrestling, and i love that i can watch up to 30 years of his career and he’s different every year.
he’s also really good at wrestling psychology and focusing more on making moments instead of just being good at wrestling moves and idk, not to sound like a boomer but i feel like theres a lot of wrestlers now that just do cool moves which is fine, but i love wrestlers who set themselves apart by making a lot of memorable moments since i like trying to study match psychology.
18) favorite wrestlers? too many omg. but chris jericho, the 4hw, johnny gargano, orange cassidy, jon moxley, idk there’s so many people i love but whenever i try to list my favorites these are the people that come to mind first
19) favorite pic with a wrestler? when i met johnny and candice they were so nice and it was amazing and i love the photo i got with them! idk if i feel like putting my face on here yet but johnny was nxt champion at that point and he let me hold the belt for the photo and it was awesome lol
(i also want ask orange for a pic with him the next time i see him but i feel weird asking so idk, we’ll see tho because i would love to have one lol)
20) 5 facts about your fav? idk i answered a lot of questions and any facts i have y’all probably know already lmao so i don’t feel like writing a lot more, but i guess uhh. you know how they say good wrestling personas are “your personality turned up to 11″? anyway orange is just Like That all the time, one difference from his character is that he talks more lol but he legitimately says “baybee” every other sentence shjkjf
well this was long but whatever i had fun and i got to talk about wrestling and that’s all i care about lmao

//Alright, so because I’m too lazy to tweet these, and also I can’t just pick one because everyone on the brand is great. Who I think should win the NXT Year End Awards are the following: (going under a read more)
Female Competitor of the Year:
Nikki Cross, Shayna Baszler, Kairi Sane, Ember Moon, and Bianca Belair
it’s a toss-up between Bianca Belair, Kairi Sane, & Shayna Baszler... but all of the women up for the vote were amazing. Albeit some caveats; Ember had a great start on NXT, but her main roster run the rest of the year was lackluster. However, I’m gonna have to say...
The Pirate Princess, herself, Kairi Sane
Male Competitor of the Year:
Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Ricochet, Aleister Black, Velveteen Dream, Andrade “Cien” Almas, Adam Cole, and Pete Dunne
All of the men in this category were amazing. Albeit some caveats, like with Ember, Andrade had a great start on NXT, but the main roster run for him has been lackluster. However, my being is leading me to say:
The Greatest Sports Entertainer of All Time... Tommaso Ciampa
Overall Competitor of the Year:
Tommaso Ciampa, Nikki Cross, Johnny Gargano, Ricochet, Shayna Baszler, Aleister Black, Kairi Sane, Velveteen Dream, Andrade “Cien” Almas, Ember Moon, Adam Cole, Pete Dunne, and Bianca Belair
JOHNNY WRESTLING... JOHNNY TAKEOVER... JOHNNY BADASS... JOHNNY GARGANO; whatever name you want to call the man. But his 2018 was phenomenal all year, and his character arc of going from the most beloved babyfaces on the NXT brand to embracing his darker side was the single greatest character arc from any WWE and NXT superstar.
NXT Tag Team of the Year:
Undisputed ERA, War Raiders, Street Profits, Heavy Machinery, Lorcan/Burch, and Moustache Mountain
Undisputed ERA
NXT TakeOver of the Year:
Takeover: Philly, Takeover: New Orleans, Takeover: Chicago 2, Takeover: Brooklyn 4, and Takeover: War Games
TakeOver: Brooklyn 4
NXT Match of the Year:
WarGames – WarGames Match (TakeOver: WarGames) GarganoAlmas – Johnny Gargano vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas (NXT Championship Match, TakeOver: Philadelphia) NXTTags – Moustache Mountain vs. Undisputed ERA (NXT Tag Team Championship Match, NXT TV, July 11, 2018) GarganoCiampa – Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa (Unsanctioned Match, TakeOver: New Orleans) NATitle – NXT North American Championship Ladder Match (TakeOver: New Orleans) SaneBaszler – Kairi Sane vs. Shayna Baszler (NXT Women’s Championship Match, TakeOver: Brooklyn IV) RicochetDream – Ricochet vs. Velveteen Dream (TakeOver: Chicago) CiampaBlack – Aleister Black vs. Tommaso Ciampa (NXT Championship Match, NXT TV, July 25) DunneGibson – Pete Dunne vs. Zack Gibson (WWE U.K. Championship Match, NXT TV, Aug. 22) ColeBlack – Aleister Black vs. Adam Cole (Extreme Rules Match, TakeOver: Philadelphia) DunneOReilly – Pete Dunne vs. Kyle O’Reilly (WWE U.K. Championship Match, NXT TV, June 13) ERABurchLorcan – Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan vs. Undisputed ERA (TakeOver: Chicago) CrossBelair – Nikki Cross vs. Bianca Belair (NXT TV, Sept. 12) ChampvsChamp – Ricochet vs. Pete Dunne (NXT North American Champion vs. WWE U.K. Champion Match, NXT TV, Sept. 19) NATitleTripleThreat – Ricochet vs. Pete Dunne vs. Adam Cole (NXT North American Championship Triple Threat Match, NXT TV, Oct. 10)
It’s a toss-up for me between Moustache Mountain vs. Undisputed ERA and the Ciampa vs. Black and Sane vs. Baszler
NXT Rivalry of the Year:
Gargano/Ciampa, Sane/Baszler, Black/Gargano/Ciampa/NikkiCross (even though this is a subset of the Gargano/Ciampa feud), Gargano/Almas, Undisputed ERA/Moustache Mountain, Ember Moon/Shayna Baszler, and Ricochet/Velveteen Dream
Gargano and Ciampa, but also the Sane and Baszler rivalry was a good one as well.
Breakout Star of the Year:
Bianca “UN-DE-FEA-TED” Belair, Lacey Evans, Rhea Ripley, Dakota Kai, Lars Sullivan, Ricochet, War Raiders, and EC3
It’s a toss-up between Bianca and Ricochet.
Future Star of NXT:
Matt Riddle, Keith Lee, Mia Yim, The Forgotten Sons, Dominik Dijakovic, Io Shirai, Candice LeRae, Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir, and Kona Reeves
Matt Riddle, Mia Yim, or Io Shirai

Jon & Colby - Happy Anniversary
Jon checked his watch. The show in Baltimore had ended well over an hour ago, so the countdown was on. It was their anniversary. One year ago today, on the night of NXT Takeover, he had driven like a madman to get to San Antonio to meet Colby for drinks... and life changed forever. And here he was, bad arm meaning this year it was his turn to watch the Royal Rumble from the sidelines, instead of Colby. And just like Colby last year, he was going to watch it from a hotel room waiting for his man to come back after the show. Unlike last year, this was entirely a surprise, Colby thought Jon was safely tucked in their bed in Iowa, planning to watch with Colby's family tomorrow night over at his mother's house. But there was no way Jon was going to miss this milestone with his fiance. Nothing in the world was going to keep him away. It was why he had refused to go to Raw 25 last week. Doctors still didn't want him to fly, and wanted him to alter his rehab schedule even less... so if he was going to ignore them, doing it only once was the safest option. And this was far more important than a 5 second cameo on Raw could ever be. So he had flown into Philly this afternoon. Had dinner with some old friends, hooked them up with some comp seats to the Rumble tomorrow, then was dropped off at the hotel to wait for Colby. He'd even sent him some texts to keep up the cover that he was still in Iowa – a pic of Kevin, sleeping on their bed, taken the night before; some very legitimate "I miss you, wish we were together" texts... and in the meantime, he'd been unpacking his light suitcase and taking a shower. Now he was all clean, just waiting on Colby's arrival. He had arranged it all with the front desk, so he would be given a key to this room but nothing said about the other party having arrived. He was stationed in an armchair by the window, feet up on the little stool, reading his book by the light of a small reading lamp. Everything else in the room was completely pristine; even Jon's suitcase was put away in the closet. He checked the time on his phone; Colby should be arriving any minute. He placed his book to the side and switched the light off, a grin on his face. This was going to be a great surprise.

WWE NXT Takeover New Orleans Review
Saturday April 7th, from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana
North American Championship Ladder Match: ECIII vs Ricochet vs Killian Dain vs Lars Sullivan vs Velveteen Dream vs Adam Cole:[****1/4]
So we start off the night with the match to crown the first ever NXT North American Champion. Personally i wasn't expecting a stellar match because the athletes involved, expect for Ricochet, are not so suited for a ladder match but they went way over with my expectations(even on time) and delivered probably one of the best multi man ladder matches i've ever seen. It had not a perfect storytelling but it wasn't necessary because it could have only one kind of story: everyone trying and doing anything to grab the belt and win the match. Cool spots, guys risking everything to get the win, no dead moments, drama, it was very good. It was a spot fest for the ages where even lars sullivan looked good, because they had him do what he should do: destroy anyone. Dain got crazy for a big man, Cole did cole stuff, Velveteen kept impressing me, Ricochet stole the show and my man ECIII showed why he got back in WWE after they fired him a couple years ago. Personally i loved the finish with Cole waiting for the perfect moment to captalise the work and getting the win, because that what his character should be: a dick and opportunist heel who can win by any means necessary. To recap everything, the show starts off already with an awesome match and let's say it wasn't the only one.
NXT Women's Championship: Ember Moon vs Shayna Baszler:[***1/2]
Rematch from NXT Takeover Philly and a much better match from their previous one, which wasn't bad but did litteraly nothing for me. This time they got much better from the start, better sense of urgency, Moon kicking the crap out of Ember, the champ not backing down and also trying to hurt the challenger with one of her trademarks and then the finish with Ember going full babyface mode and trying not to tap but she was forced to pass out and lose the title. Personally the highlight of the match was Baszler trying to pop her shoulder back by hitting the post which is actually a really smart spot that you don't see too often in wrestling matches. Shayna winning was kinda expected as i was expecting the title change already at Philly, so they could move Ember to the main roster and have Shayna-Kairi squaring off after the MYC final.
NXT Championship& Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Final: Undisputed Era vs Authors of Pain vs Roderick Strong&Pete Dunne:[***1/4]
So as we saw on NXT, the final was moved to Takeover and became a triple threat match. Now, the match was good, but i didn't understood the rules: it started off in a big mess and then the referee remember them that they had to tag themselves into the match? Why, it just ruins momentum and makes no sense. But what makes sense is the ending with Strong finally joining undisputed era, because he is probably sick and tired to be so close to winning something and then losing everything: it happened first with the nxt title, then with the cruiserweight tournament and then the UK title against Pete Dunne and being with Dunne in the tournament, it makes me thing it was already set before the start of the match. Strong turning heel is a really smart move because his stuff as heel in PWG was awesome and he needs someone to cover his weeknesses when he has to cut a promo and Cole being the leader and mouthpiece of Undisputed will be perfect. in the next weeks, we might also see Strong winning the UK Title..
NXT Championship: Aleister Black vs Andrade Cien Almas:[****]
And we go on with another stunning match on this card. I think i already said that i loved how they rebuilt Almas with Zelina and this match was really good: wrestling and storytelling wise because Almas won the title because of Zelina, kept the title because of her and then lost the title because she tried to interfere and then got distracted and hit by Black Mass. They went all out with a classic match and Black finally had that match we were waiting him to have, because we knew black was good but not this good and this Almas helped him shine big time. Expected title change not because they needed to get the title off Almas, who has been good as a champ, but because it feels like they want to build Black like someone who can go undefeated for a few month untill he matches the right one. I also think Almas is about to be called up soon in the main roster, so i expected him to lose also the rematch and then go to SD Live or Raw, so that's why we had the title change now.
Unsanctioned Match: Johnny Gargano vs Tommaso Ciampa:[*****]
So let me say one thing before i talk about this match: he is called T O M M A S O not Tomasso or Thomas. Now, this match was PERFECT and i dare you to say otherwhise. Great storytelling, great in ring psychology, great wrestling match, great build up to their storytelling, great crowd which was super into the match(Ciampa entrance was so good because they didn't covered the crowd with his theme and let everyone tell him how much an asshole he was). I loved how they used every spot really wisely, because they didn't went just for a spot, but because it was a spot that made sense for the story and for the match: i loved how they recalled their post match in the CWC, i loved how Johnny didn't felt for the trap at end, loved how Ciampa pushed hard to beat him after being sidelined for a knee injury. I loved how Johnny finished the match using the knee brace to apply more pressure. Ciampa went full heel dick mode and showed everyone how a heel should be at the moment and Johnny showed how to go over as a face with the crowd: we don't like babyfaces that behave like superman, we want babyfaces that can we relate to, that we can cheer for and that can represent us in that ring. Gargano winning was also a good moment because for once the underdog has to win and it was the right moment and setting to do it. Now, i believe their rivalry will continue and also will go on also on the main roster, just like what Sami Zayn and Kevin owens are doing right now. To recap everything, i would say that this is the match of the year right now with Almas-Gargano: personally i would pick this one over Gargano-Almas, because i am a big fan of great storytelling, but even Gargano-Almas was nuts. I'm not sure about this but probably we had the best takeover match so far, maybe i'm not 100% sure, but it's definitely in the top 3.
Overall: So, what to say about this event? Best Takeover ever? I'd say yes, because honestly, i don't remember a takeover with every match this good, everything was great, everything was well booked and you can't find anything bad about this event, because even the matches that didn't delireved big time, were good. NXT is at the moment the best WWE product and it's the less WWE style product you can imagine, because some of the stuff you see on the NXT, you won't see it on the main roster. So if you want to see 3 hours of great wrestling, then watch this show because you won't regret it. [9]

I’m very lucky to live in an area they tend to come to a lot and I have like 4 major arenas just in an hour or so distance of here.
Also we have tickets to AEW Dynamite which was supposed to be Blood & Guts but... it’s on hold, you knew that hahaha. (It was gonna be a girls night too! so sad)
