Attending Supanova Melbourne 2023
So yeah, went to Supanova this year. Gonna put everything under the cut in case it gets lengthy.
First, how did the big thing go? Well, here’s the autograph I got.
Wasn’t too surprised the wait for Tem was a decent amount of time, but I was standing there for a decent amount of time. Honestly the worst part was having to hear the Jurassic Park theme blared over and over because of this anniversary attraction they had set up.
The meeting was fairly brief and impersonal, but he seemed pretty chill. Was too nervous to really say much or speak properly, but oh well, at least I got to meet him for a minute. XP
The line to get in wasn’t too bad, actually. I saw many people in cosplay at the train station so was expecting a lot to get in, but it turned out fine for the most part.
Lots of food stalls. I’m sceptical of con food so I just got a smoothie, though I was offered some cookie later on which was nice. One of the weirder things we spotted was what seemed to be... recruitment for Australian intelligence agency? No thanks, not joining the army. :v
Got to see many stalls too. Mostly artist ones, saw some stuff I recognised both fandom wise (MANY modern cartoons) and even one or two artists I actually follow. Didn’t really do much in that regard, but it was nice to see. Probably what was most amusing was that I saw a stand with body pillows, another with those boob mousepads, lol. A couple of other nice stands too, like one focusing on Polynesian heroes, and a lot of the expected fan organisations like I think the Mandalorian Mercs?
Anyway... the most fun part was definitely seeing all the cosplay. Here’s everything I can recall that stood out to me.
So to start, I met up with a friend I occasionally see IRL, and he knew some other people, and they were cosplaying from the Guilty Gear games. I don’t know anything about the franchise, but I just have to commend the effort, because this guy got a whole ass coffin made, and he was wheeling it around everywhere with us. From what I can find, the character’s name is Goldlewis Dickinson? Two of the others were dressed as this one blonde girl with a yo-yo, and another was an alien that would pose inside the coffin.
So much Star Wars. Was to be expected, but still. So many Mandalorians (and many Din Djarins specifically). So many Grogus I wish I had a tally to count how many I saw. There were a few Boba Fetts, a few Jedi and Sith (only ones from memory I think I recognised were Obi-Wan and Kylo Ren, yes he’s not a Sith but whatever lol). Noticed some stormtroopers and TIE pilots too. There were some clones, one or two Rexes, and at least one 501st clone. Got to see a clone scout trooper too, which was cool. the only thing on my bingo Saw a remote controlled R2-D2 and another remote controlled astromech I’m not sure I remember, but I think it’s the one Obi-Wan took with him to Utapau in Revenge of the Sith? The colours were close at least. Think I saw some Leias and Padmes too, and even a Narkina 5 prisoner. Besides the clone scout, probably the highlight was someone in a whole Gonk Droid costume. They had the box and everything.
This was pretty small, but a guy was dressed as a chef and had a raccoon on their head. Yes, that was Raccaconie from Everything, Everywhere All at Once.
There was a guy dressed as Ronald McDonald... with Colonel Sanders’ decapitated head. Even had “I’m killin’ it” on the back of the outfit.
Yep, I found some Danganronpas. No Tsumugis (come on guys it’s such a meta idea someone please do it), but I did spot a Komaeda. without a Sans I saw at least one or two Junkos, but I noticed a surprising amount of Mikans? And like, I even saw Nurse Joy from Pokemon around, so I was able to tell when the nurse outfit was hers. Also found an Ibuki and I think a Chihiro and a Toko? Also a couple of Monokuma style outfits, one guy had cool facepaint that mimicked the character.
Saw a couple of Owl House cosplays. One person was I think Willow, I saw a Lilith, and maybe an Amity too? Think I saw someone dressed as Luz too.
Noticed a few Doki Doki cosplays. There was one really cool Monika as I was entering I wish I was able to catch a photo of. There was a couple I struggled to be able to tell, but maaaaybe I spotted a Sayori and Natsuki... or two? I recognised a Yuri though, and she was with one or two other Monikas.
Some Doctor Who stuff I noticed. A purple Dalek, and one of the classic ones at a stand. Think I might’ve seen an Eleventh Doctor and maybe also an Amy Pond? Was hard to tell.
I saw a few of those blow up dino costumes, lol.
I’m CERTAIN I saw someone with their head covered with Red Guy from Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared.
I did spot a group as MLP characters.
There were furries attending!
There might’ve been a Spyro? It looked like a Spyro onesie at least, but they were wearing something over it so IDK.
There were some She-Ras, I’m pretty sure one was even a guy crossdressing. And it was the old fashioned skimpy design too.
Someone had the Lord Farquaad dress up with the giant head, lol.
There was a Miles Edgeworth.
Lots of the expected superhero outfits, but one that stood out to me was Joker and Harley but it was the guy as Harley and the girl as Joker.
Many Pokemon cosplays, some Nurse Joys as I alluded to, but also a blow up Pikachu costume, and I think I saw this group of this one Pokemon I don’t remember the name of, but they looked like they had green hats or something? My friend I was with said they might be based on kappa.
I think there was one of The Last of Us zombies?
I didn’t recognise shit cuz I don’t know the franchise but apparently there was a lot of Genshin Impact?
Oh yeah... LOTS of Homestuck for some reason.

Finding The Right In-Home Aged Care Provider For Your Family
Navigating the journey of selecting an appropriate in-home aged care provider for your loved ones can be challenging and emotional. Family members strive to ensure our elderly relatives receive the best care while maintaining dignity and independence.
In-home aged care allows seniors to stay in familiar surroundings while receiving personalised support tailored to their needs. This guide will help you understand the essential factors to consider when searching for the right provider, ensuring peace of mind for your family.
Understanding In-Home Aged Care
In-home aged care encompasses a range of services designed to support seniors in their homes. These services can vary significantly, from daily bathing and meal preparation assistance to more specialised medical care.
As the demand for in-home aged care Melbourne providers continues to grow, families now have many options available, making it essential to approach this decision thoughtfully.
The Benefits of In-Home Aged Care
Opting for in-home care presents several advantages that cater to the diverse needs of elderly individuals:
Familiar Environment: Remaining in a familiar setting can significantly enhance a senior's emotional well-being, reducing feelings of anxiety and isolation often associated with relocating to assisted living facilities.
Personalised Care: In-home care services can be customised to meet each individual's unique needs, ensuring they receive the support necessary for their specific situation.
Flexibility: Families can select the frequency and duration of care services, whether that involves a few hours a week or around-the-clock support.
Cost-Effectiveness: In many instances, in-home care can be more affordable than traditional residential care facilities, making it a viable option for families managing a budget.
Assessing Your Family's Needs
Before you search for an in-home aged care provider, evaluating your family's specific requirements is crucial. Consider the following factors:
Level of Care Required
Determine the type and level of care your loved one needs. Do they require assistance with daily tasks or complex medical needs that necessitate skilled nursing care? Clearly defining these requirements will help you identify appropriate service providers.
Budget
Establish a financial framework for the care your loved one will receive. The cost of in-home care can vary based on several factors, including the level of service and the provider selected. A clear budget will help guide your choices.
Schedule
Assess how often care is needed. Some families may require only a few hours of service each week, while others may need continuous care. Understanding your loved one’s schedule will aid in finding the right provider.
Researching Potential Providers
Once you clearly understand your family’s needs, exploring potential in-home aged care Melbourne providers is time. Here are some effective strategies to assist you in your search:
Online Reviews and Testimonials
Online platforms can offer valuable insights into other families' experiences. Look for reviews and testimonials highlighting the quality of care various agencies provide.
Verify Credentials and Accreditations
Ensure that any provider you consider is accredited and complies with industry standards. This includes checking for relevant certifications and affiliations with professional organisations in the aged care sector.
Evaluate Services Offered
Different providers may offer varying services. Some may focus exclusively on personal care, while others provide broader medical support. Confirm that the provider you choose can meet your specific requirements.

Delivering exceptional care to elderly residents requires a team of compassionate, well-trained individuals who can address their unique needs. At Arise Care Staff, we are committed to providing the highest standard of care through skilled staffing and a resident-centered approach.
Understanding the Needs of Elderly Residents
Elderly residents often have a variety of needs, from assistance with daily activities such as grooming and mobility to specialised medical care for chronic illnesses and cognitive challenges. Meeting these diverse needs requires a personalised and comprehensive approach.
A multidisciplinary team of registered nurses, enrolled nurses, personal care assistants, and support workers plays a vital role in ensuring residents’ well-being. By addressing physical, emotional, and social needs, these professionals create an environment where residents feel supported and valued.
The Role of Healthcare Professionals in Aged Care
Healthcare professionals are the backbone of aged care facilities, responsible for assessing residents’ needs, developing care plans, and delivering compassionate support.
Registered Nurses (RNs): RNs provide oversight for medical care, monitor health changes, administer treatments, and collaborate with other specialists to ensure residents receive timely and effective care.
Enrolled Nurses (ENs) and Personal Care Assistants (PCAs): These team members assist residents with everyday tasks, such as bathing, dressing, and preparing meals. Their compassionate approach helps residents maintain independence, dignity, and a sense of comfort.
Each professional plays a critical role in delivering quality care that enhances residents’ quality of life.
Why Skilled Staffing is Crucial
Investing in skilled healthcare staff offers significant benefits to aged care facilities and their residents:
Higher Quality of Care: Skilled professionals provide personalised care tailored to each resident’s specific needs.
Improved Health Outcomes: Facilities with experienced staff often report fewer hospitalisations and emergency visits due to proactive care and close monitoring.
Preventive Support: Healthcare professionals conduct regular health assessments, ensure medication compliance, and promote healthy habits to reduce health risks and improve overall well-being.
Continuous Training: The Key to Excellence
At Arise Care Staff, we understand the importance of ongoing education in maintaining high standards of care. Our team benefits from training programs focused on geriatric care, chronic condition management, effective communication, and more.

In this blog, we’ll explore the job prospects available for international students, post-study work options, and tips on how to maximize your employment potential.
Why Australia for Career Growth? Australia is not just known for its beautiful landscapes and unique wildlife; it is also a land of vast career opportunities. Its stable economy, high standard of living, and focus on innovation and research make it an attractive place for students to build their careers. The Australian government actively supports international students, offering post-study work visas and pathways to permanent residency, making it an ideal destination for long-term career goals.
Top Sectors Offering Career Opportunities in Australia Australia's job market is diverse, and international students can find employment in many fields, depending on their qualifications and interests. Here are some of the top sectors offering career opportunities in Australia:
Information Technology (IT) Australia's IT sector is booming, with a high demand for skilled professionals in software development, cybersecurity, data analysis, and cloud computing. Graduates with IT degrees from Australian universities have access to some of the best companies in the world, such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon.
Healthcare The healthcare sector in Australia offers a wide range of opportunities, especially for students studying nursing, medicine, or healthcare management. The country's aging population has created a demand for healthcare professionals, making it an excellent sector for those looking to establish a long-term career.
Engineering Engineering is another field with robust job prospects. Graduates in civil, electrical, mechanical, and environmental engineering are highly sought after in industries such as construction, infrastructure development, and renewable energy.
Business and Finance Australia has a strong business environment, and international students with degrees in finance, business management, and accounting have numerous opportunities to work in the corporate sector. Major cities like Sydney and Melbourne are hubs for global finance, making them ideal locations for aspiring business professionals.
Education and Research Australia’s focus on innovation has fueled the growth of research and development in various fields. International students with a background in education, scientific research, and academic development can find career opportunities in universities, government research agencies, and private companies.
Post-Study Work Opportunities in Australia For international students, gaining work experience in Australia is often a top priority. Australia offers several post-study work options to help students kick-start their careers.
Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) The Temporary Graduate Visa allows international students to stay and work in Australia after completing their studies. There are two streams under this visa:
Graduate Work Stream: For students who have completed a degree in a skilled occupation, allowing them to stay and work for up to 18 months. Post-Study Work Stream: For students who have completed a bachelor's, master’s, or PhD degree, allowing them to work for 2 to 4 years depending on the level of qualification.
Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) This visa is for skilled workers who want to live and work in Australia permanently. International students who meet the required skill set can apply for this visa and receive permanent residency, opening up long-term career opportunities in Australia.
Employer-Sponsored Visa (Subclass 482) Some employers sponsor skilled international students for temporary work visas. If you have the right qualifications and find an employer willing to sponsor you, this visa allows you to work in Australia for up to four years.
Tips for Securing a Job in Australia as an International Student Securing a job in a competitive market like Australia requires preparation and strategy. Here are a few tips to help you stand out:
Enhance Your Resume Australian employers value practical experience, so highlight any internships, part-time jobs, or volunteer work you’ve done during your studies. Tailor your resume to each job application by emphasizing relevant skills and experiences.
Build a Strong Professional Network Networking plays a crucial role in job hunting. Attend industry events, workshops, and career fairs organized by your university or external organizations. Platforms like LinkedIn are excellent for building connections with industry professionals and alumni from your university who are already working in Australia.
Gain Relevant Work Experience While studying, take advantage of part-time job opportunities or internships to gain experience in your field. Many universities in Australia offer work-integrated learning programs that allow students to gain hands-on experience in their chosen industry.
Tailor Your Cover Letter Your cover letter should highlight why you're the perfect fit for the job and why you want to work in that specific company. Mention how your academic qualifications, internships, and extracurricular activities have prepared you for the role.
Understand the Australian Job Market Each country has a unique job market, and Australia is no exception. Research the industry you're interested in, understand the qualifications and experience employers are looking for, and be aware of visa requirements.
Permanent Residency (PR) Pathways for International Students Australia offers several pathways for international students to transition from temporary work visas to permanent residency (PR). Gaining PR allows you to live and work in Australia indefinitely, providing a secure career future.
Skilled Migration Program Australia’s Skilled Migration Program is points-based and allows graduates with the right skills and work experience to apply for PR. Factors like age, English proficiency, education, and work experience contribute to the points system. Some of the popular PR visas include:
Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) For students who find long-term employment in Australia, their employer may sponsor them for a permanent visa under the Employer Nomination Scheme. This visa is available to skilled workers who have been nominated by an Australian employer and meet the specific criteria.
Salaries and Job Outlook in Australia Salaries in Australia are competitive, especially in sectors like IT, healthcare, and engineering. The average annual salary for graduates entering the job market is around AUD 60,000, but this can vary depending on the industry and location. For example, salaries for healthcare professionals like doctors and nurses can exceed AUD 100,000, while those in IT can expect to earn between AUD 80,000 and 120,000 per year.
Job Outlook by Sector IT Sector: Demand for cybersecurity and data analytics professionals is growing rapidly. Healthcare Sector: A consistent need for nurses, doctors, and aged-care workers.
