The MBTA should have an aerial tramway, like the Roosevelt Island Tramway. Perhaps connecting north and south stations as an alternative to the NSRL?
This is the best idea I’ve ever heard. Fuck the north south rail link all my homies know the real shit is the the north south gondola

Team USA Men's Basketball Clinches 17th Olympic Gold Medal Victory
In a thrilling final at the Paris Olympics, Team USA Men's Basketball secured its fifth consecutive—and 17th overall—Olympic gold medal in the Men’s 5x5 Basketball Final.
Boasting a star-studded roster of 12 NBA All-Stars, including four MVPs and six NBA champions, Team USA was primed for success from the outset. Leading the charge was Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and the all-time Olympic points leader for Team USA. Durant delivered a strong performance in the final, contributing 15 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds. Reflecting on the journey, Durant said, "Set a goal and work every day for it until you achieve it."
Making his first Olympic appearance since 2012, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James played a pivotal role in guiding Team USA to victory throughout the Games. James, who posted 14 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds in the final, emphasized the importance of hard work, stating, "Nothing is given. Everything is earned. As long as I'm out there on the floor, I'm trying to be the greatest ever."
Nike, the leading advocate for athletes and sports, has always prioritized listening to the voice of the athlete. This commitment is exemplified by the LeBron James Innovation Center, home to the Nike Sports Research Lab (NSRL), where insights from elite and everyday athletes shape the future of sports.
In the lead-up to the Olympics, Team USA participated in the USA Basketball Showcase, demonstrating their dominance and teamwork. Kevin Durant and his Phoenix Suns teammate, Nike signature athlete Devin Booker, who was also part of the gold-medal-winning team in Tokyo, were key contributors. Booker, reflecting on his drive, said, "I play to be the best."
Nike Basketball continues to elevate the game globally. Since 2004, Nike signature athletes like LeBron and KD have visited over 20 cities across Greater China to promote grassroots basketball, inspiring and nurturing the next generation of players in local communities.

okay! as with anything related to lead, there's a lot to talk through here. this is not to say that these tests and results are not a concern, but rather to provide additional context for what the article is stating.
Let's begin with how these foods have been tested, and the basis for concern (caveat: am only knowledgeable in lead, not phthalates, cadmium, or sodium).
The Consumer Reports research utilizes California's Maximum Allowable Dose Level (MADL) for Lead and Lead Compounds, which is 0.5 mcg/day. The MADL for Lead is listed as a "Safe Harbor Level" as it comes to reproductive toxicity. The research which set the No Significant Risk Level (NSRL) focused on what quantity of lead would have to be consumed orally for there to be a risk of cancer in rats. The safe harbor levels have a function of determining whether the product requires a Proposition 65 warning (aka those stickers you see on products warning a consumer of potential reproductive and cancer risks). For other substances, there are available reports as to why that MADL has been adopted based on observable results in rat studies. That report is not available for lead, which may or may not be the result of the petition by the Center for Environmental Health to amend or repeal the MADL for lead (I genuinely can't tell if this is the case).
The MADL is being used for Consumer Reports research because as they've noted, there is no rigorous federal standard for "permissible" lead levels. But this doesn't hold much context for the common consumer -- it is somewhat unmoored from other measures of lead that we commonly see. For instance, the FDA recall on cinnamon products identified lead content in parts per million, which is a measurement based on volume rather than a potential health measure. Similarly, California has a law which identifies the naturally occurring level of lead in tamarind/chili-containing candy to be 0.2 ppm. The function of this measure is to deem that any greater amount of lead is the result of adulteration or contamination from the manufacturing process (as per 104 CA CONS HSC 110552).
To know what the equivalent measurement would be in parts per million would require knowing the volume of the substance. So then what does this Consumer Reports conclusion mean? It's hard to tell, because the report offers the lead content as a percent of that MADL, without indicating what the source of lead was within the Lunchable, or its relevant volume/mass/anything.
I am going to try and do the math and translate it to another measure, if possible (I will probably be wrong b/c I'm not spectacular with math so please feel free to check my work). Let's focus on the Turkey and Cheddar Crackers Lunchable with the highest percentage of 74% lead. That is 74% of 0.5 mcg/day, which would be 0.37 mcg/day. We're given a serving size of 3.2 ounces. 3.2 ounces is not a measurement of volume, but let's pretend for a moment that that 3.2 ounce measure is fluid ounces. Its volume would then be 0.000094635 m^3. If we divide 0.37 mcg/day by 0.000094635 m^3, we get a ppm measure of roughly 3.9 ppm. And also no, I have no idea what to do with the fact that this is meant to be a daily measure. So, not great. But at least that communicates something that may be more readily understood.
It's not a food recall yet -- that's an important note. I don't know if it ever will be, since the MADL doesn't require even Proposition 65 labelling, which is far more stringent than any federal guidelines we have.
It's hard to know anything with certainty right now. The reports are being cagey about their methods or conclusions, which does not serve consumers in understanding what the source of contamination might be, or how to avoid it. I'm not thrilled with this report and the way it communicates a concern without detailing methodology or significance of its results. It doesn't indicate to any degree what the extent the lead levels may be naturally occurring. It feels very separate from context, is my feeling. My coworkers, who have also worked in lead poisoning prevention for years, were also unsure on how to interpret these results.
So ultimately, I don't know anything with certainty. I can't offer any solace here, or truly indicate if there is a cause for concern. But I hope this at least grounds the results you see in more context.
sorry for being the town crier of food PSAs but I see a lot of breaking reports while I research for my job: as of April 9th, 2024 high levels of lead have been found in Lunchables kits, as well as other harmful contaminates

Keeping California's Proposition 65 in Compliance: What companies Need to Know As a manufacturer
It is critical that you are aware of your obligations under California Proposition 65. Businesses are required by Prop 65 to include warning labels on products containing chemicals that are known to harm reproductive health or cause cancer. You are required to provide a warning prior to any exposure if a product you manufacture can expose a consumer or occupational user to any of the over 990 substances on the Proposition 65 list. You are in the best position to make this decision, and you might have to label your product or give distributors and retailers warnings.
Understanding California Proposition 65's Definition of "Exposure" It is essential to comprehend Prop 65's definition of "exposure." Any contact with a product through acquisition, purchase, storage, consumption, or any use that is reasonably foreseeable is considered exposure. This includes both exposure through food consumption and direct use of a product. The definition of "reasonably foreseeable use" varies depending on the product's marketing strategy, target audience, and intended use.
Manufacturers and suppliers must check their products and supply chains to see if and how many of the chemicals on the Prop 65 list are present. This evaluation must be carried out in accordance with Prop 65's exposure limits. No Significant Risk Level (NSRL) for chemicals that cause cancer and Maximum Allowable Dose Level (MADL) for chemicals that harm reproduction and/or development are two examples of these limits, which differ from chemical to chemical.
A warning is required if a product's exposure level exceeds Prop 65 limits. Unless a study can demonstrate that there is no harm, any exposure to those substances requires a warning if no levels are defined.
Keeping California's Proposition 65 in Compliance:
How to Get Information from Sub-Suppliers As a manufacturer, you need to know which Prop 65 chemicals are being given to customers who use your products and whether labeling is required. Requesting Full Material Disclosure (FMD) from your suppliers is the best way to accomplish this.
Request a California Prop 65 "Certificate of Compliance" stating that the product contains no Prop 65 substances on accessible surfaces or identifying the specific substances and their concentrations, and inquire about the presence of Prop 65 substances in their products.
Keep in mind that it is ultimately your responsibility to ensure compliance with Prop 65, so it is essential to remain informed and communicate any requirements to your suppliers and customers in a clear and concise manner.
The Top Obstacles Manufacturers Face in Complying With Prop 65:
Compliance with California's Proposition 65 (Prop 65) can be difficult for manufacturers. Businesses are required by this law to include warning labels on products containing chemicals that have been linked to cancer or reproductive harm. Failure to do so could result in substantial fines and harm to your business's reputation. In this article, we will discuss the most important Prop 65 compliance issues that manufacturers currently face and offer advice on how to effectively address them.
Keeping up with the constantly changing chemical list: New chemicals are frequently added to the list in order to keep Proposition 65 current. It can be challenging for manufacturers to remain informed and ensure compliance with their products.
Determining the requirements for product labeling:
Warning labels aren't required for every product, but it can be hard to tell which ones do. Assessing your products and supply chain to determine whether and in what quantities any Prop 65 chemicals are present is crucial.
Putting in place a program for supplier engagement and testing: Manufacturers may need to obtain data from suppliers, test products for Prop 65 chemicals, and consult toxicologists to determine the level of exposure in order to comply. This is a process that can take a long time and cost a lot of money, but it is necessary to avoid potential fines and harm to your company's reputation.
Making use of an efficient labeling strategy: You will need to choose the language and location of the warning labels once you have determined which products require them. This can be a difficult process because the labels need to be easy to read and understand.
Controlling the monetary impact: From the costs of sourcing, validating, testing, and labeling to the potential fines for noncompliance, complying with Prop 65 can be costly. Manufacturers must budget for these costs and prepare for any possible financial consequences.
Manufacturers can ensure that their businesses are in compliance with this crucial law by remaining informed and following best practices, though Prop 65 compliance can be a daunting task. Don't let difficulties with compliance hold you back; instead, take the necessary measures to safeguard your company's reputation and assets. Reach out to us for comprehensive compliance strategies

Unveiling the Air Jordan XXXIX: A New Era in Performance and Style
In a breathtaking display of athleticism, Michael Jordan once again demonstrates his prowess on the court. Positioned on the left wing, Jordan sizes up his defender, executes a deft rocker step, and explodes off his left foot towards the hoop. With a seamless blend of skill and grace, he dribbles between his legs, switches the ball to his left hand, and crosses over his defender, leaving him rooted to the spot. Jordan then ascends effortlessly for a flawless jump shot, sinking the basket with aplomb.
This iconic move inspired the creation of the Air Jordan XXXIX, the latest release in the illustrious Air Jordan line. Designed to encapsulate the essence of Jordan’s game, the XXXIX is engineered for the modern player committed to mastering the sport’s most dynamic movements.
At the heart of the Air Jordan XXXIX is an innovative cushioning system, featuring a groundbreaking combination of full-length ZoomX foam and full-length Air Zoom. This marks the first time these two technologies have been used together in a basketball shoe. The ZoomX foam, renowned for its lightweight and responsive properties, has powered some of the most impressive performances in running. The Air Zoom, a staple in the Jordan Brand’s legacy, delivers enhanced responsiveness and comfort, having been a key component in models like the Air Jordan XII and XXIII. In the XXXIX, the Air Zoom unit is seamlessly integrated within the ZoomX foam, offering a cushioned yet agile feel that conforms to your foot’s natural movement. An innovative cup sole design further stabilizes the foot, enhancing performance during high-intensity plays.
Joël Greenspan, Senior Design Director for Jordan Brand Performance Footwear, notes that the Air Jordan XXXIX might appear more understated compared to its predecessors. “Our focus was on shape, proportion, and stance,” says Greenspan. “We wanted the shoe to prioritize performance over flashy aesthetics. Our goal was to ensure that athletes immediately recognize they’re getting the most advanced performance system available.”
Every aspect of the Air Jordan XXXIX reflects a meticulous attention to detail, driven by a commitment to optimizing directional changes and responsiveness. The shoe’s upper features an embroidered textile with a computational design, derived from extensive testing at the Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL). By analyzing the mechanics of Jordan’s cross-step in slow motion, designers crafted a unique pattern that flexes in tandem with the shoe’s movement. Natural leather overlays provide added support in high-stress areas, while the herringbone traction pattern on the outsole is engineered for superior grip during sharp turns. The shoe’s tongue height and heel contours have been precisely calibrated to minimize chafing, ensuring a comfortable fit.
“This is Michael Jordan’s signature shoe,” Greenspan adds. “From the cushioning to the materials to the construction, every element of the Air Jordan XXXIX represents the pinnacle of performance.”
The Air Jordan XXXIX will be available for purchase on July 23 at jordan.com and select retailers.

“For fuck’s sake!” for Trebor please :p
Yawning as he walked into the small house he and Braylin rented Trebor could feel his irritation growing. The grass wasn’t mowed. Something Bray had promised he’d do while he was at work. Opening the door their breakfast dishes still cluttered the table. Something Bray had promised he do.
Loud music blasting from the small extra bedroom Braylin jokingly called their in home gym drew his attention. Scowling as he opened the door he found the pink haired male running on the treadmill.
The room smelled of dirty socks and sweat. Trebor’s growing annoyance switched to frustrated anger. “For fucks sake Bray” he shouted over the music “couldn’t you at least do one damn thing I asked of you?”
Bray turned smiling as he ran on the treadmill obviously not sensing or hearing his partners angry words. “What” he called.
“Fuck it” Trebor mumbled whirling around running from the room.
A few minutes later Trebor heard the familiar footsteps of his boyfriend as he walked out onto the porch. He fought the urge to run again knowing that the more physically fit man would easily catch up to him.
Sitting down on the steps Braylin glanced around the yard and the jungle it had become. “Shit” he mumbled “I forgot. I’m sorry.”
“You promised Bray” Trebor’s voice quivered with a mix of anger born of frustration and exhaustion.
“I know” Bray sighed attempting to put an arm around him,
“Don’t” he snapped scooting away. “My parents are going to be here tomorrow. Instead of sleeping I’m going to have to spend my time cleaning.” He lowered his head onto his knees “you know how much this meant to me.”
“I know” he said contritely “I’m sorry.” This time when he put his arm around Trebor he didn’t resist.
“I’m just so tired” he yawned “working doubles is killing me but it was the only way I could get the weekend off...”
“Don’t worry about anything” Bray said. “Go inside. Have a hot bath. Relax,” he urged. “I’ll take care of everything.”
Trebor lifted his head up a doubtful look on his face. Nodding he moved silently towards the door squeezing Bray’s shoulder as he passed.
