Word: Amnesia / Setting: Science Fiction World

Fandom: Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun)

Pairings: Nozaki x Sakura (they’re not their first names, but I’m more used to these)

A/N: The Nozaki version of events before this happened is “That must be it,,, (but I’ll ask her anyway)”. You don’t need to read it to understand this, but if you want to, there it is -w-

“Who are you?”

Yelp!

Her shoulders slumped, dejectedly. Why, out of everything, Nozaki-kun had to forget about the more recent years of his life…? Why did he have to forget all about her...?

If they were inside one of the love stories he used to write, that would have been…!

...exactly what would’ve happened, actually...

She pondered on this in amazement, before his penetrant stare, scrutinizing up and down, made her raise her head quickly. “Y-yes, you see, I’m…”

“My girlfriend?”

“WHAT!”

She felt her world spin, visualizing an explosion on top of her head. “W-wha- what, what…”

She stuttered so hard she suddenly understood western cartoons with bashful piggies at the credits.

“You were holding my hand.”

Chiyo Sakura was rendered speechless, mouth agape with horror. “O-oh. That was…”

“Also, I have an uncommon amount of pictures of you in my cell phone.”

“That’s because-- wait” she turned her head in his direction, blinking “Really?”

“I know I use a lot of reference pictures” he replied, “But although I have plenty of those, you are the one that’s constantly appearing, over and over… Why’s that?”

“Well, I… I don’t know” she lowered her gaze. “Only you can know that… Ah! I mean, I know it's impossible right now, but someday you’ll remember. You’ll see.”

Nozaki, still in the hospital bed, nodded absent-mindedly.

“Meanwhile, you need to put all your effort into recovering, and getting healthy again!” She exclaimed, eyes shining with determination, trying to change the subject to something that didn’t make her have to explain why she had been holding his hand.

But then he looked at her with a deadpan expression. “I understand if you do not want to tell me.”

She winced, blurting out “That’s not what--!”

She stopped abruptly before completing the sentence, and he nodded again, as if he had just gained a great understanding. “Ah, I see. So that’s how it is.”

“What are you talking about?!”

“I’m sure I’ve gained a vast amount of valuable experience from this relationship” he kept going, as if he hadn’t heard her the first time, smiling lightly. “It must be very very useful! I’m sure Mamiko must have greatly improved in time... “

“So you remember your manga, and your protagonists, but you do not…”

“No, I do not remember it, but someone explained it to me and brought a volume. And I don’t remember you either” he said. “But I don’t need more evidence to know who you are.”

She dared to look at him, with a bewildered stare, her heart loudly beating, in a restless thump thump.

She just couldn’t believe her luck.

The way he was looking at her was something she had never seen before!

“Look at this.”

He stretched an arm, putting his hand inside a backpack near his bed. He took out one heavy volume of his manga, and opened it from the very first page.

Chiyo held her breath.

It was Mamiko, of course. But the amazing part was that never before she had noticed such a clear connection between the manga protagonist and herself. True, Mamiko had her light blonde hair tied in one beautiful ribbon… And her features, something in them almost made her believe…

“Why else would she look like you?”

His voice made her return to reality, looking at him in shock. They looked at each other, right in the eye, and she flustered, like a cherry popsicle. But she didn’t turn her gaze away.

He smiled triumphantly, eyes filled with conviction. “You have to tell me all about it.”

“Ohh, errr, uh--”

“All of our relationship. Since the beginning. I’ll write it down.”

“Don’t do that please!”

“I’m sure you are used to it”, he replied without looking up from the paper and pen he had just grabbed from the backpack. “As a mangaka’s girlfriend. I must ask this from you very often.”

As a mangaka’s girlfriend.

“As a mangaka’s girlfriend…”

“My girlfriend.”

She felt her soul leave her body. “My... girlfriend…”

He stared at her, and she shook her head violently. “I mean your girlfriend!”

And so it was. The simultaneously best and worst decision Chiyo Sakura took in her whole life (or one of the list, at least).

I didn’t want to lie to him.... But I didn’t lie to him...! I’ll tell him the truth. I’ll definitely tell him, she said to herself, nodding with certainty.

Have you read/watched the Kase-san series? It's absolutely fucking adorable

Who the what now?

I had to google that one, and I will admit that the art style is appealing, so I will add it to my list. Unfortunately, one of the side effects of Love Live entering - and mostly taking over, particularly via NicoMaki and YohaRiko - my life is that other anime and manga have fallen by the wayside.

Kiniro Mosaic managed to ping hard enough on my radar that I actually watched it, despite being in the middle of X rewatch of LL. Sakura Trick was recommended by a friend, but only made it to my to-watch list as I was busy delving into fanfic for more LL content. I saw clips of Wake Up, Girls! in AMV’s, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. I’m not honestly sure how No Game No Life manged to break my attention away from LL long enough for me to watch it, especially since it aired alongside the second season, but I’ve yet to look into 0, which I believe has since been released. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun looked too cute to pass up, so I managed to watch that and Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu had twintail in the title and looked tongue-in-cheek enough that I had to see it as well. And I believe Gakkou Gurashi! may have been the last anime I watched as it came out as my obsession with SIF was getting stronger by this point.

I know there was a second season of Kinmoze as well as a new animated adaptation of a Rumiko Takahashi work. And Yoshitsugu Matsuoka voiced the protag of Food Wars and thus made it worthy of my attention. Friends have recommended Hibike! Euphonium and I’ve seen it in AMVs, but still haven’t watched it. I started watching Kobayashi-san Chi no Maidragon, and it was adorable, but for some reason I didn’t finish; probably SIF. I only skimmed BanG Dream for background info on the game, which I’ve since stopped playing to make more time for SIF; more specifically SIFAS. Same goes for Revue Starlight. Further skimming through the archives of AniChart reveals absolutely nothing else that I remember even noticing.

I think LL may have ruined my anime watching habits...

Day #16

A/N: The other side (technically prequel) of “I’ll definitely tell him… (but not yet)”. It can be read without reading Sakura’s side-- but it’s recommended to read it  (´｡• ᵕ •｡`)

Apparently, he carried her picture around all the time. Lots of pictures, actually. That was one of the first things that had catched his attention, when checking his cell phone for the first time, after losing his memory. But by the time he grabbed the cell phone, all of the important persons of his life (or at least the ones he could remember) had already left the room, and he couldn’t ask them.

Who was that girl? Her image seemed to spark something important in his memory, but, of course, he just quite couldn’t put his finger on it. Was she one of his models? Seemed like the most reasonable explanation; however, if that was the case, he sure must have used her for inspiration a lot, because she was everywhere.

Suddenly he had a flicker of memory, a fortuitous mental association, and he grabbed the manga volume from his backpack beside the hospital bed, and opened it just at the right page.

There she was. His heroine, the lovely, princess-looking Mamiko…

...who shared a tremendous resemblance to the girl from the photos.

Perhaps it wouldn’t be so clear for everyone else, but he had the artistic eye, a well trained eye; also, if he had drawn it in the first place, wouldn’t it be logical for him to quickly recognise where the inspiration had come from?

He nodded to himself, until an idea popped into his mind, and he froze.

Why would he use just one girl in particular as a model? Did he just reuse the same face and body for everything…? Was there, somewhere in his stories, a Mamiko army...? An army made of Mamikos?

The idea seemed too surreal and complex even for him, and he pondered on it, frowning in concentration. He looked once again towards the manga, and his eyes remained focused on the pretty, girly ribbon. Then he opened his cell phone and-- yep, there it was again, except there were two instead of one. It was based on her, no doubt. The question was… why?

He mulled over the question, over and over, until his eyebrows started to hurt a little, with how much he was frowning.

It was when he sighed, and was just trying to relax his muscles when yet another idea crossed his mind, like a missile.

Of course.

His eyes went wide open, with this new-found information.

She was his girlfriend!

Everything made sense now, everything was clearer. The revelation felt as if a heavy weight lifted from his chest, and he could finally relax for real, plopping down against the bed.

He sent a glance at the picture on his cell phone one last time, a tiny smile on his lips, before putting away the manga, tucking it safely inside the backpack.

That solves everything, he thought, starting to feel the sleep luring him back. But, still…

He paused even inside his mind, thought swirling, with just a slight hint of uneasiness. I’ll ask her about it, when I see her. I suppose she’ll come to see me.

His mind drifted away, until the world disappeared. The next thing he knew was the delicate touch of a hand, softly holding his own. When he stirred, the other person let go of his hand immediately, and when he opened his eyes and sat straight, the girl from the photos was just barely one feet away; looking taken aback, flustered, her pretty hair tied in two pretty ribbons.

Staring at her intently, he felt like he knew her; like he truly, truly knew her. But still he couldn’t help but ask…

“Who are you?”
