when it comes to products you use every single day, using more than 3, maybe 4 products just sounds like you're trying to wage chemical warfare on your skin. im now down to face wash -> witch hazel -> moisturizer as my three main products i use every day on my skin. it's a cleanser, a neutralizer, and a moisturizer, and all extremely neutral/low ingredient ones at that. everything else is used sparingly or only when needed, like clary sage/tea tree oil or green tea bag compresses for spot treatment, noxcema pads for when i get really dirty + sweaty at work, and the rare face mask or exfoliant or eye cream or whatever that ill i do once in a blue moon for fun. like everything else is purely a luxury, never a necessity. i do use sunscreen when i go places, but that's an obvious thing. i also added drinking a huge mason jar of water to my routine right after moisturizing which is also an obvious thing that i should've been doing from the getgo and the fact that it took me this long to do something so simple and obvious as that shows how the beauty industry has hijacked skincare. like i drink a lot of water anyways but adding the step of fully hydrating yourself into your routine just completely escaped me as a possibility. you never see any of these beauty gurus or YouTubers mentioning drinking water except as a footnote when it should be a whole step in your skincare routine. same with washing your pillowcase/bedding regularly. same with using 75+ sunscreen regularly. but you just don't ever see them mentioning these things because it's not glamorous, it's not beautiful, it's not luxurious, it's basic and plain and boring and unfun. getting enough sleep is a big one too, but that's a bigger bear to tackle than just adding a step in a routine since you can't predict or plan your sleep, or at least i can't. but my point still stands: you don't see these ppl detailing healthy sleep habits for skincare more than just a passing comment. all these things that are more than just slathering some product on your face are just being treated as good advice rather than Essential Habits. it boggles my mind to see some 18 product, 35 step, $200, and 500+ chemical skincare routine performed DAILY, with not a single product above 35 spf as a bare minimum, if that. and then to not even talk about drinking water more than 5 seconds on top of it all. your vials of rare swiss lamb placenta can't help your skin if you're never drinking water or changing your sheets bitch!
