What exactly is Chromecast, and how does it work?

Chromecast is a plug-in video streaming device from Google that works similarly to a Roku or Apple TV device. It allows you to download streaming applications and watch them on your television via your WiFi network.

Cant See Amazon Echo Speaker Group On Spotify App

For some reason my (brand new) Echo dot won’t connect to the other wi-fi. I navigate to the network settings in the app, hit “change”, put the Echo in setup mode, enter the log in credentials for the new wi-fi. Alexa gives a confirmation that it’s connected but when I reopen the app I see it’s just reverting back to the old one each time. Actually these two Echo Dots are not shown in Spotify app from my family member devices. When I change the setup in Alexa to link it to my Spotify Family Premium main account, then the Echo Dots are showing up in my Spotify app (signed in from my iPhone and iPad). But from the Spotify app from my family members, signed in on their own Spotify accounts, they cannot see the Echo Dots as Spotify Connect devices. 1) Is it possible to allow all my spotify accounts that are in my family account to.

I set up a few groups through the Alexa app, one that includes all three Echos, and two more containing different combinations. However Spotify Connect will only display one group at a time. Above, only the Everywhere group containing all three Echos appears in Spotify Connect. If I switch to that group it's still the only group that appears. Glad to see this rolling out. I was under the impression that this was already the case. I just got my second echo device yesterday, so I was really disappointed when it said it can’t do Spotify multi room. If the speaker does not appear on the list, try the following: Clear the Spotify app cache (usually done via the Settings menu). Restart your phone/tablet/PC. Unplug the Play-Fi product, and plug it back in. Make sure the Play-Fi product firmware version is 1.4.0.045 (or higher). I still see them in the Google home app but can't connect to them via spotify. If I disable wifi they show up for a second and if I'm fast enough I can connect to them before they vanish again. All speakers are in the same WiFi and my router is set up to allow communication between devices. Well, it worked on day 1 so there wasn't any issue. The Echo and Echo Dot both support multiroom audio - but the Tap does not. Chris Monroe/CNET Only the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Show are supported (sorry, Tap).

Is the iPhone 4S a Huge Waste of Money? Find Out Why You Should Keep Your iPhone 4 and Not Upgrade

With the iPhone 4S on the market it's only natural to question whether you should buy that or the older model iPhone 4. I didn't have this option when I purchased the iPhone 4 because the 4S wasn't out at the time, and by the time you purchase your iPhone there will probably be about 10 other newer versions out. Of course I'm kidding but apple do tend to release a new iPhone every year. dq-solutions

Should you buy an iPhone 4?

The answer of this question ultimately comes down to your preference. Personally I haven't yet tried the iPhone 4S so I can't comment on how good that device is, however from looking at the phones specifications and user reviews for the extra money you would pay for the 4S I think personally I would prefer to save some money and stick with the iPhone 4.

Blackberry users thinking of making a switch should note that iPhone's now come with something called iMessage, and basically it's a free way of communicating with other iPhone users just like Blackberry messenger.

The iMessage feature really isn't that big of a deal to me as my network provider already gives me unlimited texts in my price plan, but if you haven't got unlimited texts and you have a lot of friends using an iPhone then this feature will save you a ton of money. iIMessage also allows you to send images to your friends free of charge.

Processing Power of the iPhone 4

If you have done your research into mobile phones then you will know that some mobile phones have dual cores, without getting two technical the more cores you have the better processing power your phone is going to have. There are other factors that come into play such as the clock speed of these cores but like I said for the purpose of this review I won't get too technical. The iPhone 4 only has a 1GHZ single core processor whereas the newer model phones such as the Samsung Galaxy 2 have 2 cores. This however shouldn't put you off as the iPhone will handle all the tasks you want it to. I have only ever found the phone to go slow when you are running multiple apps simultaneously.

iPhone 4 Phone Design

iPhone 3 and 3GS users will be used to their sleek looking device with the curved plastic back, and I must admit I loved this design, so when the iPhone 4 came along with its rectangular and flat design I was rather put off and thought initially that it was borderline ugly.

Without a phone case there is no question that I still prefer the feel to the 3GS over the 4 but with a case I find the iPhone 4 easier to grip and it feels like a much more solid mobile phone.

The iPhone 4 is much different from its little brother the 3GS its much more compact but still weights 137g, so you get a much smaller yet compact device that feels solid. The side of the phone is stainless steel where the front and back are made out of some type of reinforced glass.

I have seen one review website saying that one of their employees has dropped this phone out of a low level window and nothing happened to the phone, now sorry I don't believe this at all. Maybe they wrapped the device in bubble wrap first and then tried it, but otherwise this device will crack. Having said that if you drop this phone from your pocket to the ground then you shouldn't receive any problems, but just to make sure I would recommend getting a cheap case off eBay or somewhere like that.

iPhone 4 Camera

I have never used an iPhone camera previously to owning this iPhone 4 so I wasn't sure of the quality that the phone would produce. On using the camera I very much like it, I think the quality of image is great the colors are realistic and the built in flash is pretty good but can sometimes overexpose the image. I often find myself using the built in flash as a torch with the iTorch4 app. The HDR mode is also pretty cool and what this mode does is take 3 different exposure levels and blend them together to give a cool looking image.

The high definition video recording is also something I wasn't expecting from a mobile phone and I was surprised when I saw that the iPhone 4 had it. Once again the quality is excellent and Apple has done a good job with implementing this into such a small device.

The iPhone 4 has 2 cameras built into it and I probably should have mentioned this earlier. One of the cameras faces outwards and this is the camera I discussed above and one of the cameras faces inwards. This camera is useful for the face time application. This application is like a webcam that allows you to talk to other iPhone/iPad users. Face time allows both parties to see each other and communicate. The camera that is used for this isn't as good as the main camera in my opinion and often gives a darker and grainier picture.

iPhone 4 web browsing

Before owning the iPhone 4 I owned a blackberry curve 8900 and web browsing on that mobile phone was painfully slow and quite often didn't even work. In fact I would say the Blackberry 8900 web capabilities were nonexistent. Upgrading to the iPhone was amazing. YouTube have started to convert their movies so that they will work on the iPhone, but because of the amount of files on their website this is going to take time. The YouTube app works fine but I find that often the videos that I search for don't appear in the way they would if you search online. An example of this is if you searched for "The Beatles" then you would get a ton of song covers before any of the songs performed by The Beatles.

Battery Life

As I mentioned above, previous to owning this phone I owned a Blackberry 8900 and although that phone was rubbish the battery life was pretty good. I could easily go a day and half without charging it, with the iPhone this isn't the case.

If you listen to music, write on Facebook/Twitter, check your emails and play on your apps then you are going to drain your battery down. The iOS 5 update also uses up more battery power again, but don't be alarmed, I use my phone all day and have never run out yet, although I have come pretty close.

At WWDC 2019, Apple announced that HomeKit support would be coming to WiFi routers. Not a lot was known about what that would entail, until recently, when new and updated routers with HomeKit functionality began to hit store shelves. A few weeks ago, Linksys sent me its Velop Tri-Band Mesh WiFi Router System that added HomeKit support late last month. I’ve been using the system for a few weeks now and want to share the setup process and explain what HomeKit-enabled routers offer that other routers don’t.

Linksys’ Velop system was one of the easiest WiFi Routers I’ve ever set up. Like many WiFi routers, Linksys relies on an iOS app to walk you through the setup process, providing clear, easy-to-follow instructions. Within about 15 minutes, I had set up a Velop node in my basement where my Internet service enters the house, another in my kitchen, and a third on the second floor. Overall, the simplicity of setup is comparable to setting up an Eero WiFi system with its app, which is well-known for making what can sometimes be a complex process easy.

Once I was satisfied that everything was working properly, I added the Velop routers to the Home app. The button in the upper left corner of the Linksys app reveals a long list of options when tapped. Near the bottom is ‘Apple Home Integration.’ When tapped, the Linksys app kicks off the Home integration process with an alert confirming that you want to begin setup. A second alert from the Linksys app requests access to your HomeKit accessories.

Beginning the HomeKit setup process.

With those confirmations out of the way, you’re prompted to add each of the routers. The default names of the routers are Linksys followed by a series of numbers, but you can change them to something that makes more sense for your setup, like ‘Kitchen WiFi.’ If you lose track of which of the identical routers is which, there’s a button in the setup UI to identify it, which blinks the light on the top of the router. You are also asked to designate a room in your home for the router. Next, you’re prompted to turn on HomeKit Accessory Security, which I’ll explain in a moment.

Adding your routers to the Home app.

When you’re finished, the Home setup UI confirms the number of routers you’ve set up and offers to open the Home app. If you tap ‘Done’ instead, you remain in the Linksys app, which also confirms that the setup is complete.

What you gain by adding your Velop system to the Home app is finer-grained control over how your HomeKit devices connect to the Internet, if at all. Internet access is managed from Apple’s Home app by tapping the Home button in the top left corner of the app and selecting ‘Home Settings,’ where you’ll find an entry for ‘Wi-Fi Network & Routers,’ which appears beneath the entry for managing any hubs or bridges in your Home setup. Tapping on the entry lists the routers you added, a toggle for HomeKit Accessory Security, which should be enabled if you turned it on during setup, and finally, a list of HomeKit accessories that are connected to your network.

For each accessory, you can choose among ‘Restrict to Home,’ ‘Automatic,’ and ‘No Restriction’ settings. As the names suggest, ‘Restrict to Home’ provides the tightest control over devices, denying them access to the web or other devices on your network. Devices set to ‘Restrict to Home’ can still connect to your HomeKit hub on your local network, but because they cannot communicate outside your network, it’s worth noting that they won’t be able to do things like update their firmware.

Managing your Velop routers from the Home app.

Automatic, which is the default setting, strikes a middle ground, allowing Internet connections and connections to other devices that are recommended by the device manufacturer. Those connections are described in the Home app beneath the setting, providing additional transparency about what your devices can do. Finally, ‘No Restriction’ allows any connection to the Internet or a local device.

The reason to restrict HomeKit device access to the Internet is both to ensure that the devices aren’t sharing information to destinations outside your network without your knowledge, and to reduce the risk that a HomeKit device becomes an entry point for unauthorized access to your devices or local network from the outside. In most instances, I expect Automatic will be the setting most users should stick with if they’re comfortable with the connections recommended by the maker of a device. However, it’s nice to have the option of restricting access to the Internet further, especially if a vulnerability is reported for a device you own.

In my testing, I kept most of my devices in Automatic mode and moved a few to ‘Restrict to Home.’ During the time I’ve been testing the Velop system, I didn’t run into any issues with updating those devices. They continued to operate as expected. However, none of those devices needed to access the Internet for their core functionality. Also, firmware updates are infrequent enough that none of the devices appear to have been blocked from updating during my testing.

Having spent a few weeks testing HomeKit router support, probably the greatest compliment I can pay it is that it didn’t complicate my setup or cause any network issues that I noticed while providing an extra layer of network security. HomeKit support is currently available in the Velop Tri-Band line of mesh routers. Updates to existing Velop systems began rolling out to customers in late September to owners of the following router models: A03, WHW0301, WHW0301B, WHW0302, WHW0302B, WHW0303, and WHW0303B. Currently, HomeKit support is not available in Linksys’ latest WiFi 6 mesh routers, something I hope will change in the future.

With the addition of lights, thermostats, cameras, door sensors, and other HomeKit devices to my home, I now have dozens of devices connected to my WiFi network at any time, which makes keeping track of what each is doing difficult. The benefit of a HomeKit router is that you can hand that task off to the router and Home app by simply making a few security choices up front. I’ve been impressed with just how easy HomeKit support was to enable and manage with Linksys’ Velop WiFi routers, and hope it’s a feature that Linksys and other router makers continue to implement in their products.
