Tamaki Amajki x Reader // Ride Home
Tamaki had been walking through the downtown district for almost thirty minutes after he had left the school for home. Mirio couldn’t be there with him that afternoon along with Nejire since they had to do something important. He forgot to ask, so here he was.
He didn’t take the bus yet since he had a feeling that he should be walking around for a bit. He didn’t know why, but he had to. Although it was getting kinda rainy already.
As he was passing a small shopping quarter, he noticed someone familiar in the distance, holding an umbrella over her head. She was looking right at him, and he took a little time to really recognize who she was.
Then it hit him. It was his friend since middle school, (Name)-san, but now in third year, she was transferred to another section. Was she going home as well? Maybe he could go home with her… They are in the same neighborhood, after all. Just a few lots away, though.
She waved her hand towards him, beckoning him over to her. He meekly quickened his pace and ducked under her bright purple umbrella, her momentarily looking over at him. Tamaki felt unsure if he was supposed to hold the umbrella for her, or just let her be.
Taking the umbrella for her would be nice, right? Like a gentleman, yeah!
He slowly reached out to take the handle, but she suddenly gasped, startling him a little.
“Hey, you’re so tall now!”
Tamaki hummed in confusion. He looked down at himself, then at her.
“Heels?” he asked, raising his foot a little. (Name) shook her head, sighing. “Damn, I wish I was as tall as you are..”
He smiled a little, lightly patting her head, the feeling of her hair against his palm bringing back some memories. “It’s alright to be short,” he shoved his hands back in his pockets, keeping watch for any buses that they could ride in. “…Your height?”
“In guys? My preference is someone taller than I am.” She answered, completely irrelevant to his question. “N-no, no. Your height. If you could add to it.”
Why did he feel a little happy…?
“Ah. Just half an inch would be fine so I could be 5”1’.”
He looked at her from head to toe again, unbelieving that she was only 5 feet and half an inch tall. Then again, it had been a long time since he had gotten a good look at her.
“You’re 5”1’?” he started to chuckle, making the girl pout. “Stop it.”
“S-sorry.” He eyed the handle again. “Ah, my pinky hurts.” (Name) complained, frowning at her hand. Tamaki then took that as a cue to grab the handle, but was confused still as (Name) didn’t let go of the umbrella, their hands lightly touching.
“I thought your hand hurt?”
“Yeah, but I don’t like it if someone else does something for me even though I could do it myself.”
Tamaki smiled lightly at her statement. She was admirable, not only for her quirk and her wit but also her personality. (Name) was energetic, but a balanced kind, unlike Nejire and Mirio.
“Oh, a bus! Hurry!”
---
“Oi, why are you there? Get over here and sit next to me.”
Tamaki scooched closer to the girl, feeling rather relaxed in her company. It had been so long since they last went home together. It felt almost nostalgic riding the bus with her again. “How’d you do in the Math test? I think I flunked it.”
“How come?”
(Name) sheepishly shrugged, a smile blooming in her face. “Ah, well… I was only halfway done when sir said ’30 minutes left’ and I panicked so I left it all to chance.” Tamaki almost let out a laugh at her antics, but still hoped that it wouldn’t affect her grades that much. “Me, I forgot to bring my calculator. I didn’t know it was allowed, so…”
“Seriously? What kind of math exam is it that doesn’t allow calculators?”
“I regret it. A lot… There were so many fractions and decimals…augh…”
(Name) giggled, patting his arm gently. “Serves you right for not asking around.”
He sighed, remembering the subjects he had to take tomorrow. “Didn’t you guys already take the exam in ICT?”. (Name) nodded, while texting her mother about where she was. “Yeah, yeah. It’s purely practical, and even though you already know how to modify text, you still need to memorize the steps for mail merging.”
They discussed some more about their midterms, and about their classes and whatnot. Though their chat was entirely formal and class-related, he still found it enjoyable to talk to her. She was a chatterbox, but not the type that could easily annoy someone.
He was grateful he didn’t have to talk much, and he knew that she understood his situation. Tamaki didn’t realize that he had actually missed being with her, and the thought brought a smile to his face.
He wished she wasn’t transferred to another section. Maybe Mirio and Nejire would love her. He hasn’t introduced her to them yet, but maybe he should.
They got off on a bus station near their neighborhood and walked in silence all the way to Tamaki’s home. He thought about having them sit together at lunch tomorrow, and was about to ask her as they stopped in front of his gate.
“(Name)-san...-”
“Well, I gotta get going. I have to study for the next examination. Bye.” (Name) then hurriedly turned around and departed, leaving him to uselessly reach out to her.
“Ah-” Tamaki only watched as she walked away, her hair swishing side to side as she got farther and farther away from him. “S-see you…”
He sighed, smiling to himself.
“See you tomorrow, (Name).”
