"Hiccup didn't want to have to spend his life keeping dragons safe"
That is 100% the exact opposite of who Hiccup is from what is shown to us in the films.
"It was so people would stop using them and abusing them so much. Dragons were powerful, amazing creatures with unimaginable abilities that bad people didn't hesitate to try and use for their own gain."
You mean the bad people that we're shown multiple times in the film they can easily stop from doing that? The armada of warlords we're shown they can take down in a couple of minutes?
"where they could live the way they're supposed to"
Living in the Hidden World is not in the slightest the way dragons are supposed to live (especially if you include what we're shown in Race to the Edge).
"It was really the only way to ensure they would be able to live peacefully and happily until they died."
No, it was not. The films are literally all about another way.
Httyd 2 Hiccup, after defeating a guy who can mind control dragons to do his bidding, and who made Toothless kill his dad: "We are the voice of peace, and bit by bit we will change the world. You see, we have something they don't. Oh, sure, they have armies, and they have armadas, but we have...our dragons!"
THW Hiccup, after defeating a goofy Viggo-rip off in a hilariously easy battle, no casualties suffered: "Eh, yeah, nvm boys. Time to pack it up, the world fr is too dangerous for dragons rn, we'll have to take a raincheck on our so-far incredibly successful revolution and cross our fingers people will just magically become accustomed to the dragons, which I've made disappear off the face of the earth"
#httydthw#I believe nartml said it better than I could about some of the points#nothing personal at all but in honesty your comment on Hiccup kind of baffled me so I felt like responding as well#I feel like it's the same as watching John Wick then saying that John never cared about his wife#despite the entire film showing us the opposite#also if the plan is to send them to the hidden world so no bad people can hurt them#then if I'm not mistaken that means there must be no dragons currently in captivity anywhere cause otherwise the plan fails immensely#and that would mean they've succeeded in changing the world for the better and all the dragons are safer than they've ever been#and that would mean them giving up at the moment of their success is even more nonsensical
